Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler accused of sexually assaulting woman

when she was a teen, in new lawsuit

The lawsuit was filed Tuesday by Julia Misley, formerly known as Julia Holcomb

WARNING: This article contains graphic content and may affect those who have experienced sexual violence or know someone affected by it.

A woman who has previously said Steven Tyler had an illicit sexual relationship with her when she was a teenager is now suing the Aerosmith frontman for sexual assault, sexual battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

The lawsuit brought by Julia Misley was filed Tuesday under a 2019 California law that gave adult victims of childhood sexual assault a three-year window to file lawsuits for decades-old instances of assault. Saturday is the deadline to file such claims.

The 65-year-old Misley, formerly known as Julia Holcomb, said in a statement that she wanted to seize "a new opportunity to take legal action against those that abused me in my youth." The Associated Press does not name victims of sexual assault unless they publicly identify themselves.

While the lawsuit doesn't name Tyler, Misley identified him by name in the statement, issued through the law firm Jeff Anderson & Associates.

She has also recounted her experiences with Tyler in prior interviews, and Tyler discussed a relationship with a teenage girl in two books, published in 2011 and 1997.

The acknowledgements section of his 2011 memoir Does The Noise In My Head Bother You? thanks a "Julia Halcomb," which Misley has said is a reference to her.

Lawsuit alleges 'criminal sexual conduct'

Representatives for Tyler did not immediately return requests for comment Friday.

The lawsuit alleges Tyler "used his role, status, and power as a well-known musician and rock star to gain access to, groom, manipulate, exploit, sexually assault," Misley over a period of three years. As a result, she has suffered severe emotional injury as well as economic losses, the lawsuit said.

According to the lawsuit, some of the abuse occurred in Los Angeles County.

The lawsuit says Misley met Tyler in 1973 at one of his shows in Portland, Ore., and was later invited to Tyler's hotel room, where she said she told him she was 16. Tyler would have been 25 or 26 at the time. It says he engaged in "various acts of criminal sexual conduct" against Misley.

He engaged in sexual acts with her following multiple other shows, and in 1974 he became her legal guardian so she could travel with him to shows, the lawsuit alleged.

The lawsuit alleged Misley became pregnant in 1975 as a result of having sex with Tyler, and that he later coerced her into having an abortion.

Tyler further harmed Misley by publishing memoirs that detailed parts of their relationship without her knowledge or consent, the lawsuit alleged. Doing so subjected Misley to public attention and scrutiny, which retraumatized her and made it harder for her to recover, the lawsuit said.

Tyler's memoirs mention relationship

In Tyler's 2011 memoir, he mentions meeting an unnamed 16-year-old "girlfriend to be." He wrote that he almost "took a teen bride" and got her parents to sign over custody so he wouldn't be arrested when she went on tour with him out of state.

"By including Plaintiff's name in the acknowledgements, he left the readers and the public without any doubt of Plaintiff's identity," the lawsuit states, noting that Misley was confronted with a picture of her own face on a tabloid cover at a grocery store after the book's publication.

Tyler's relationship with a teenage girl is also referenced by several people in Walk This Way, a 1997 "autobiography" of Aerosmith in oral history format.

The teen is given the pseudonym "Diana Hall" and, at one point, is described as being pregnant. Tyler said he was thinking about marrying her, referenced abortions and called it a "tricky situation all around."

The lawsuit seeks monetary compensation of an unspecified amount.

Misogynist influencer Andrew Tate ordered held for 30 days

in Romania after arrest

Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Andrew Tate, the controversial online influencer and former professional kickboxer known for his misogynistic views, has been ordered to be held in pre-trial detention for 30 days after his arrest in Romania on allegations of organized crime, rape and human trafficking involving at least six women.

Tate was arrested Thursday along with his brother, Tristan Tate, and two other suspects after police raided a home outside of Bucharest as part of a criminal investigation that has been ongoing since April.

All four suspects were placed in pre-trial detention on Friday, a spokesperson for Romania's anti-organized crime unit confirmed to The Guardian and The New York Times.

Romania's Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism had said Thursday that the Tate brothers and the two other suspects would be detained for 24 hours.

The Tate brothers, who live in Romania, have dual citizenship with the United States and Britain.

"The Matrix sent their agents," reads a tweet posted Friday by Andrew Tate's account after his arrest.

He was previously suspended from social media platforms including TikTok, Facebook, Instagram and Twitch as well as Twitter for his sexist remarks about women but was recently reinstated to Twitter after the platform was purchased by controversial billionaire Elon Musk.

Speculation grew online that authorities in Romania were likely tipped that Tate was in the country after engaging in an online feud with teen climate activist Greta Thunberg.

Tate on Tuesday tweeted at Thunberg asking for her email address to send her a list of cars in his collection and their emissions to which she responded: "yes, please do enlighten me. email me at smalldickenergy@getalife.com."

In a reply to her response, Tate can be seen with boxes from a Romanian pizza restaurant. However, a spokesperson for Romanian prosecutors told The Guardian that Tate was not arrested because of the pizza boxes.

After Tate's arrest was announced, the 19-year-old Thunberg tweeted: "This is what happens when you don't recycle your pizza boxes."

Tate's arrest was recorded by police and shared by Romania's organized crime directorate and shows officers raiding the home. The footage also appeared to show weapons recovered by police, including a handgun, a sword and large knives.

Romanian officials said in the news release that the Tate brothers have been detained amid an investigation into organized crime, human trafficking and rape in Romania as well as other countries including the United States and Britain.

Andrew Tate and his brother were accused of "misrepresenting their intention to enter into marriage" and cohabitation relationships with alleged victims before transporting them to buildings in the Ilfov County of Romania.

Officials described the actions of the Tates as the "loverboy method" and said that their victims were "sexually exploited by members of the group" who forced them to perform "pornographic demonstrations" to share on social media.

Austria: Afghan Muslim migrant who got probation for sex

harassment last year now accused of sexual abuse of minors

DEC 22, 2022 1:00 PM

Why does this keep happening? Yes, sexual molestation happens all over. But this kind of story is seen on a not infrequent basis. Why? One reason may be because such treatment of infidel women is sanctioned in the Qur’an.

In France, a Muslim quoted Qur’an while raping his victim. A survivor of a Muslim rape gang in the UK has said that her rapists would quote the Qur’an to her, and believed their actions justified by Islam. Thus it came as no surprise when Muslim migrants in France raped a girl and videoed the rape while praising Allah and invoking the Qur’an. In India, a Muslim gave a Qur’an and a prayer rug to the woman he was holding captive and repeatedly raping. And the victim of an Islamic State jihadi rapist recalled: “He told me that according to Islam he is allowed to rape an unbeliever. He said that by raping me, he is drawing closer to God…He said that raping me is his prayer to God.” In India, a Muslim kidnapped and raped a 14-year-old Hindu girl, and forced her to read the Qur’an and Islamic prayers. In Pakistan, another Christian woman recounted that her rapist was also religious: “He threw me on the bed and started to rape me. He demanded I marry him and convert to Islam. I refused. I am not willing to deny Jesus and he said that if I would not agree he would kill me.” Rapists demanded that another girl’s family turn her over to them, claiming that she had recited the Islamic profession of faith during the rape and thus could not live among infidels.

The Qur’an teaches that Infidel women can be lawfully taken for sexual use (cf. its allowance for a man to take “captives of the right hand,” 4:3, 4:24, 23:1-6, 33:50, 70:30). The Qur’an says: “O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.” (33:59) The implication there is that if women do not cover themselves adequately with their outer garments, they may be abused, and that such abuse would be justified.

However, anyone who points all this out will be excoriated as a “racist” and an “Islamophobe,” and accordingly ignored.

Convicted Afghan man back in court for sexually abusing girls

Translated from “Vorbestrafter Afghane wieder wegen sexuellem Missbrauch von Mädchen vor Gericht,”

by Michael Koch, Exxpress,
December 20, 2022

It’s hard to believe: Today, an Afghan man who was released on probation is standing before the regional court in Salzburg for serious sexual abuse of minors, dangerous threats, property damage and other crimes.

Just last year, the asylum seeker was held responsible for sexual harassment, coercion, physical harm and resistance to state authority. The lenient verdict: six months imprisonment – suspended on probation.

Why is it hard to believe? It seems completely expected to me. Mohammed gives them the right to abuse women and young girls, and Mohammed's Law is above Austrian Law.

"was held responsible" is a sick joke. A suspended sentence is no punishment at all. Certainly not enough to change the behaviour of a sexual predator.

The youngest victim of the asylum seeker is only 12 years old

This time it’s about three girls aged 12 and 13. The Afghan is said to have not only groped her immorally. He asked the youngest to have sex and touched her chest. Serious sexual abuse is punishable by up to ten years in prison.

According to the authorities, a possible deportation of the repeat offender was out of the question after the initial judgement. Reason: too dangerous because of the Taliban’s takeover of power in Afghanistan.

This is beyond stupid!

Reports of sexual assault almost every day

The series of sexual assaults by young asylum seekers does not seem to end. A concerned mother in Vienna only contacted the police on Sunday. With tears, her 13-year-old daughter described how she was said to have been raped by a Syrian (16) in Leopoldstadt.

The announcement of a rape trial against six Afghans in Feldkirch (Vbg.) also caused a stir. The gang is said to have abused a girl in an asylum center in February. In the run-up, there had been severe criticism because the police only confirmed the incident months later – after the eXXpress had exclusively uncovered the scandal.

The police, courts, media, and government are still hiding the evils committed by Muslim migrants in Austria and most European countries thereby leaving their young girls in great danger without warning.  God will hold them accountable for this spectacular evil, but, meanwhile, many young girls will pay for the stupidity and evil of irresponsible adults.

Iran: Court sentences woman to 10 years in prison

for ditching hijab and ‘encouraging prostitution’

As more and more Iranian women ditch the hijab, and as protests continue to escalate, an Iranian court has sentenced a woman to a decade in jail for her “rejection of the obligatory Islamic dress code,” which is an Islamic religious requirement (Quran 24:31, 33:59). 25-year-old Mahsa Peyravi was sentenced for “’encouraging prostitution’ because she took off her mandatory headscarf at an anti-regime protest.”

The protests have gone over 100 days with a heavy toll: over 500 protesters, including 69 children, have been killed.

Let’s hope that egocentric, easily manipulated Western Leftists will reconsider “Hijab Day” in the West.

“Iran sentences woman to decade for removing hijab,

calls it prostitution,”

by Benjamin Weinthal,
Jerusalem Post,
December 28, 2022:

The infamous Judge Abolqasem Salavati, who has been nicknamed Iran’s “hanging judge,” sentenced a 25-year-old Iranian woman to 10 years in prison for “encouraging prostitution” because she took off her mandatory headscarf at an anti-regime protest.

Voice of America tweeted in Persian about Mahsa Peyravi’s sentence on Sunday.

The American governmental news organization wrote on Twitter that the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced Peyravi for taking off her headscarf in October during a protest on Mirdamad Boulevard in Tehran. She twirled her hijab in an oft-repeated act of defiance against the clerical men who rule the theocratic state.

The Tehran court found her guilty of “encouraging corruption and prostitution” for her rejection of the obligatory Islamic dress code. She was also convicted of “assembly and collusion.” Human rights organizations have long argued that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s opaque judicial system fails to meet the rudimentary norms of a modern legal system.

‘End of Iranian dictatorship is near’

Hamid Charkhkar, an Iranian-American academic, told The Jerusalem Post, “These cruel and inhumane treatments of Iranians by the Islamic regime in Iran shows the end for [Ali] Khamenei’s dictatorship is near. The youth in Iran will no longer tolerate Sharia laws, and they are done with medieval Mullahs controlling their lives. Over the last 100 days, Iranians have fought this regime every day, and now, for the first time in 43 years since the emergence of Islamic fascism in Iran, most people can see a future without the Islamic Republic.”

Iranians launched a nationwide series of protests against Khamenei regime’s after the nation’s notorious morality police killed Mahsa Amini in prison in September for failing to properly wear her hijab. The highly repressive Islamic nation has been gripped with demonstrations since Amini’s murder.

Charkhkar, a member of the Alliance Against Islamic Regime of Iran Apologists, added, “Although Khamenei and his thugs use scare tactics such as executions, torture and long-term prison sentences to silence people, this revolution will continue till the day Iranians are rid of these monsters.

‘Sextortion’ suspect accused of driving California teen to suicide

3000 Teens sextorted leading to more than a dozen suicides this year

A California man has been busted for allegedly taking a 17-year-old boy’s money and threatening to post his sexually explicit photos and videos — a “sextortion” scheme that authorities said led to the teen’s suicide.

Jonathan Kassi, 25, was arrested Thursday in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Van Nuys before he was booked into Santa Clara County jail on charges of extortion and attempted disorderly conduct, San Jose police said.

Kassi allegedly pretended to be a teenage girl named “Emily Smith” in order to trick boys into sending sexually explicit photos and videos.

Police said he sexually exploited children on several social media platforms under fake accounts with the usernames “emillysmith” and “kassijonathan.”

Kassi was allegedly involved in the “sextortion” of Ryan Last, a 17-year-old from San Jose who died by suicide after Kassi allegedly posed as a teenage girl and convinced him to share a racy photo of himself online, according to NBC Bay Area.

Jonathan Kassi, 25, was arrested last Thursday in connection to the sextortion and eventual suicide of a 17-year-old San Jose resident.
San Jose Police Department

After Last shared the photo, Kassi threatened to send the compromising photo to his friends and family unless Last paid $5,000. Kassi allegedly collected the blackmail money from the boys and sent it to a co-conspirator in Ivory Coast in Africa, police said.

According to police, Last sent some money but it wasn’t enough. Kassi demanded he send more money, spurring Last to take his own life last spring.

Last was just days away from turning 18 and weeks away from graduating from Ann Sobrato High School.

Ryan Last was days away from turning 18 and weeks away from graduating high school when he died by suicide last spring.

This week the FBI warned about a massive uptick in teenage boys being targeted online and extorted for money after being tricked into sending scammers sexually explicit pictures.

At least 3,000 children, mostly teenage boys, have been victims of the schemes that are connected to more than a dozen suicides this year, according to Justice Department officials.

Most victims are between 14 and 17, but kids as young as 10 have been targeted in similar attacks. The FBI said it was issuing the national public safety alert as children will likely be spending more time online with schools closed for winter break.

Kassi will make his first court appearance in Santa Clara County court on Monday to enter a plea.

Theater director Jeff Church found dead following sex abuse allegations

By Yaron Steinbuch
December 27, 2022 11:26am  Updated

Jeff Church was found dead on Christmas Eve following multiple accusations of sexual abuse against him.
The Coterie

A longtime children’s theater director in Kansas City was found dead on Christmas Eve — days after he resigned amid allegations of sexual abuse.

Jeff Church, 63, who had led the Coterie Theatre for over 30 years, was found dead at his home on Saturday afternoon, the Kansas City Star reported.

The cause of death has not been released.

On Thursday, KKFI 90.1 radio host Mark Manning accused Church on Facebook of assaulting him in 1991 when he was 27.

He came forward by sharing a since-deleted video by Deshawn Young, a Florida-based actor who previously lived in Kansas City, in which he described an assault.

“I am sharing this video testimonial from my friend Dashawn Young. Please be careful. This is very difficult to watch and hear,” Manning wrote.

“My emotional muscle memory was triggered in a way I did not fully expect. I lost it. I became so emotional that I wondered if I could even do my radio show,” he continued.

Mark Manning, a Kansas City radio host, said he was sexually abused by Church in 1991 at age 27.
Facebook/Mark Manning

Manning went on to recount how Church allegedly assaulted him at the director’s home during a party after the production of “Dinosaurs.”

“I found myself pushed back on the bed, his mouth was on my body parts, my clothing seemed to disappear, and very quickly the director had penetrated me,” he wrote.

“It felt like my body was being used. How did this happen?” Manning said, adding that he had heard of many similar accounts of sexual abuse at the hands of the theater honcho.

Manning told the Star that the sickening acts had been “going on for over 30 years.”

“Most of these people were young theater artists
trying to find their way through their theatrical career and a person in a very great authority position of directing them and deciding who gets paid and who gets the job [was] interfering in people’s lives,” he told the paper.

He said that after he shared the lengthy post, three other people reached out to him to share their similar experiences.

On Friday, the Kansas City Pitch first published more shocking allegations against Church from more than a dozen people.

KC Comeaux, an actor who worked for Church in his early 20s, also spoke out on Facebook.

“I was sexually assaulted by Jeff Church. Many of you in Kansas City had no idea of this man’s behavior. Many of you had heard rumors. But I’m here to tell you that he is a predator,” he wrote.

“He has groomed, abused, and assaulted, numerous young men over the course of 30+ years. Myself included,” Comeaux wrote. “…this man, who has used his position of power as an Artistic Director of a renowned children’s theatre, for manipulation and sex exploitation.”

Young’s post prompted others to speak out about their experiences with the late director.
Instagram/@thatsit.thatsme

On Saturday afternoon, the theater announced that it had accepted Church’s resignation and planned to investigate the multiple allegations.

“We want you to know that we are taking these allegations extremely seriously and will move forward with the investigation immediately, despite the impending holidays,” it said in a statement.

Manning called the lurid matter a “tragedy for our community.”

“I don’t want to see a whole theater company be destroyed because of one person and the horrible things that they did over a long period of time to a lot of different people, both men and women,” he told the paper.

Ex-NJ landlord indicted for demanding sex favors from 30 tenants

By Isabel Keane
December 22, 2022 3:31pm  Updated

A New Jersey landlord has been hit with more than three dozen sex charges for demanding sexual favors from 30 low-income tenants in exchange for housing help, prosecutors said.

Joseph Centanni, 75, of Mountainside was charged last week in a 42-count indictment that includes 23 counts of second-degree sexual assault and 19 counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, according to the Union County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday.

Centanni owned 18 low-income residential rental properties in the city of Elizabeth — each ranging from four to 100 units.

The creepy landlord allegedly bribed men and women ages 22 to 61 to engage in unwanted sexual favors between 2013 and 2020.

“The defendant allegedly solicited the sex acts from his victims as a quid pro quo, agreeing to offer them rent reductions, a delay in an eviction, or other forms of financial assistance in exchange,” the statement said.

“He also purportedly threatened tenants who hesitated or refused his advances with eviction or other retaliatory measures.”

Centanni was arrested in June 2021 but remains free on court-ordered pretrial monitoring pending the outcome of his case.

A year ago, the Justice Department announced that Centanni agreed to pay a massive $4.5 million to resolve a Fair Housing Act lawsuit that looked to protect tenants from harassment and discrimination.

NJ landlord - Centanni did not admit to any wrongdoing when he settled the lawsuit.

Centanni sold all of his properties as part of the settlement and has been permanently banned from owning or managing residential properties. He did not admit to any wrongdoing in settling the lawsuit.

The agreement was the largest monetary settlement the DOJ has ever obtained in a case alleging sexual harassment in housing and settled a federal lawsuit alleging Centanni sexually harassed his tenants over a 15-year period.

Centanni subjected residents and prospective tenants to “severe or pervasive sexual harassment,” according to the lawsuit filed by the Department of Justice in 2020.

He allegedly demanded oral sex or touched the tenants inappropriately and without their consent in exchange for helping them apply for rental assistance to stay in their homes.

Centanni and his properties also benefited greatly from federal Section 8 housing vouchers, which netted him over $100,000 in Housing Choice Voucher payments each month.

The $4.5 million he has agreed to pay will be distributed to his victims through a compensation fund, according to the DOJ.

He has also settled at least seven lawsuits filed by previous tenants in state courts, according to NJ.com.

Perverted Lives of the Rich and Famous > Massive Sex Scandal at Juilliard; Another One in Irish Dancing

What a truly shocking and disappointing story from one of the world's most renowned music conservatories

Elite Juilliard school embroiled in massive sex misconduct scandal,

renowned professor put on leave

By Olivia Land, NYPost
December 21, 2022 11:30am  Updated

A massive sexual misconduct scandal is rocking the elite Juilliard school of music, as multiple instructors have been accused of discrimination and harassment — and one renowned professor has been put on leave after 500 people signed a letter decrying his “abuse of women and power.”

Composer Robert Beaser, 68, was sidelined for a pattern of mistreatment that included soliciting sex from students — much of which was detailed in a Dec. 12 exposé of the Upper West Side conservatory published in VAN magazine.

“Sexual discrimination and sexual harassment have no place in our school community. We take all such allegations extremely seriously,” Juilliard spokesperson Rosalie Contreras told The Post on Wednesday as news of Beaser being put on leave emerged.

In one case, Beaser allegedly offered to boost a now-former student’s career, before asking her for sex in return, the publication said.

“What will you do for me?” he allegedly said.

Beaser — who also frequently taught students in his private home — joined the Juilliard composition department in 1993, and was department chair from 1994 through 2018.

The school was reportedly made aware of allegations against him in the 1990s and again in 2017 and 2018.

Though the 2018 report coincided with Beaser being replaced as chair by Melinda Wagner, Contreras told VAN the decisions were unrelated.

“Allegations that were previously reported … in the late 1990s and in 2017/18 were investigated at the time, based on information that was provided,” she explained to The Post.

“However, in order to review new information and to better understand these past allegations, the school’s current administration launched an independent investigation on December 8.”

Juilliard is widely considered one of the best performing arts conservatories in the world.

Per the Daily Mail, provost Andy Meyer explained to faculty in a Dec. 16 email that Beaser “will step away from his teaching duties” while an investigation is conducted.

The decision to place Beaser on leave also coincided with the publication of an open letter signed by 500 musicians, composers and other music leaders decrying his “decades-long abuse of woman and power.”

Beaser did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for a comment, though he told VAN that he would be “cooperating” with the investigation.

toward female composition students.

In addition to Beaser, the VAN piece detailed alleged misconduct by late Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and faculty member Christopher Rouse, who composer Suzanne Farrin says tried to kiss her following a dinner to discuss her audition for the doctoral program in 2001.

After she “twirled out of his arms and … ran away,” Farrin told the magazine, her Juilliard application was rejected. When she called to report the incident, an administrator insisted Rouse was a “‘big supporter’” of her music.

“They were prepared for my call,” Farrin remembered.

The VAN article also includes a claim from eight female graduates that another faculty member, Oscar-winning composer John Corigliano, rarely accepted female students.

“It was said like a joke,” alumna Cristina Spinei told the outlet. “‘You couldn’t study with him’ or something.”

Although adjunct faculty member Samuel Adler confirmed that Corigliano did not take female students “in the beginning,” Corigliano denied the accusations to the magazine.

Robert Beaser’s conduct was previously reported to Juilliard officials in the late 1990s and 2017/18.

“It saddens me to read that you have been told by eight female students, formerly at The Juilliard School, that there was an unwritten policy by which they perceived that I favored the men over the women,” he said.

“Such a position was neither my preference nor my policy. I have taken great joy in working with many very gifted young women and men in my long teaching career.”

Corigliano did not reply to The Post’s request for a comment.

Several of the former students quoted in the VAN story felt the acknowledgment of Juilliard’s problematic culture was long overdue.

“I wouldn’t even call it an open secret. I’d just call it open,” film composer and Juilliard graduate Laura Karpman said of the sexual predation on campus. “These women feel incredibly vulnerable. If they come forward they have no protection … They have no guarantees that anyone will listen.”

Nora Kroll-Rosenbaum, another composition alum, corroborated Karpman’s sentiment, saying female students felt safe studying with “less than half” the faculty.

One alum called the sexual misconduct on campus an “open” issue.

Founded in 1905, Juilliard is widely regarded as one of the most elite performing arts conservatories in the world. With an esteemed alumni community of award-winning actors, musicians and dancers, composer Sarah Kirkland Snider argued the school has “outsized responsibility.”

“When you pride yourself on being the best in the country or in the world, then people look to you for their standards and expectations,” said Snider, who never attended Juilliard. “Teachers at other schools knew about it, they made references to it. It became a joke, a constant punchline.”

Corigliano denied the accusations against him.

In her statement to The Post, Contreras said the school remained “committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all.”

“We cannot comment further as confidentiality is paramount to the integrity of the investigation, and discussing cases could discourage individuals from coming forward with their experiences,” she concluded.

Irish dancing: Claims of competition fixes, sexual favours

detailed in court challenge

Text messages show offer of sexual acts in one exchange between two male teachers

Last July, the Irish Dancing Commission was informed of allegations that at least 12 Irish dancing teachers in Ireland and overseas were involved in the 'fixing' of competitions. Photograph: Getty

Simon Carswell, The Irish Times
Fri Dec 23 2022 - 05:00

New records filed in the High Court this week reveal exchanges of text messages showing efforts by Irish dancing instructors to secure high scores for their students from fellow teachers, including the offer of sexual acts in one exchange between two male teachers.

The text messages are short but it is clear what the people are asking for. The sender is seeking the recipient’s help when it comes to marking their students in competitions.

Many of the messages contain lists of names of dancers and their competition numbers along with the gender and age category they are competing in. Some include more details, such as that a particular dancer had been dancing well or that they may have a high ranking in the world or won a major competition in recent times.

The messages are clear, along the lines of “could I ask you to look out for” and “I will sort her out” to “just do the best you can for them” and “have a girl u15 that needs to qualify”.

“The very best you can do for her – it’s a huge competition,” reads one text message.

“If she’s good, I will be doing best for her before the rest but won’t forget about yours,” reads another.

Some messages go further. In detailed exchanges between two male teachers who also act as judges, the conversations are sexually explicit, with one of the teachers appearing to offer sexual favours for higher scores.

“Will you be nice to her and if you are on with her make sure she’s okay. Please. I’ll s*** your d*** at the world [championships] as a thank you,” said the teacher.

In other exchanges, the two men talk about what hotel room numbers they are in with, on one occasion, one man asking the other to come to their room soon. There appears to be discussion about being ready for a sexual act.

“No visit no 100s,” he wrote, adding laughing emojis to the text and referring to the maximum score a dancer can get from a judge in a competition.

“Well the better you are to me the more you get [kisses emojis],” said one man to the other in another exchange of texts messages concerning scores in a competition.

The messages, which were submitted to a High Court judge this week as part of a new legal action, are at the centre of a scandal that has rocked the Irish dancing world.

Last July, the Irish Dancing Commission, or An Coimisiún Le Rincí Gaelacha (CLRG), the oldest and largest governing body for competitive Irish dancing, was informed of allegations that at least 12 Irish dancing teachers in Ireland and overseas were involved in the “fixing” of competitions by promising to award higher marks to competitors at Irish dancing events run by the commission in Ireland, the UK and the United States.

Supporting documentation provided to support the allegations was later leaked online.

In August, given the seriousness and nature of the allegations, the CLRG sought legal advice and, the following month, it asked retired Court of Appeal judge Michael Peart to investigate.

Earlier this month, the commission told teachers that the retired judge had recommended that 44 individuals face full disciplinary hearings. The commission said that all 44 individuals were being suspended from judging pending the outcome of the disciplinary process.

On Tuesday, lawyers for Amanda (Mandy) Hennigan, who runs an Irish dancing school in Hertfordshire, north of London, and is an adjudicator for CLRG, went to the High Court in Dublin with a case aimed at stopping the commission’s disciplinary hearing against her. She is one of the suspended 44 individuals and the first to take legal action against the commission over the controversy.

One Million Moms urges American Girl to pull book

promoting puberty blockers to children

Christian Post Reporter

An organization of Christian mothers that regularly launches campaigns against questionable content is calling on American Girl to discontinue its distribution of a book that promotes puberty blockers for girls questioning their gender identity.

The conservative activist group One Million Moms has launched a pressure campaign urging the doll company to discontinue selling the book A Smart Girl's Guide: Body Image and encourages people to stop purchasing from American Girl or its parent company, Mattel.

One Million Moms highlights how the book seemingly directs girls to organizations that will help them transition if the adults in their lives don't support their decision. The group also accused the doll brand of attempting to “brainwash” girls by promoting the idea of identifying as the opposite sex.

"This is disgusting! American Girl is encouraging children to go behind their parents’ backs with life-altering issues," the campaign website reads.

As The Christian Post reported, a section in the book about gender identity advises girls to talk with a doctor about wearing clothes or using pronouns to resemble the opposite sex. If a girl has not experienced puberty yet, then the book claims a doctor may provide “medicine” to delay bodily changes.

"Parts of your body may make you feel uncomfortable and you may want to change the way you look. That's totally OK," one excerpt of the book reads. "You can appreciate your body for everything it allows you to experience and still want to change certain things about it."

Prepubescent children should never have to worry about their bodies. They should know that puberty is coming and everything changes after puberty. So, making changes to your body before puberty is sheer madness.

Erin Merryn's Christmas to Remember

..

God bless you Erin, may you and your family enjoy a wonderful Christmas in spite of the memories that get in your way. Thank you for all you are doing for children in America.

Erin's Law
Facebook

I put this reminder out there every year and hope you will share.

The holidays are often a time of joy and happiness for many. For others it’s a time of sadness remembering a loved one not at the family gathering. Children are far more likely to be sexually abused by a family member then anyone else. Christmas is one holiday children who are being sexually abused get targeted. For many families they gather with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Making it easier for an abuser to find an opportunity to abuse a family member with the distraction of so much going on in one home.

Below are just some moments of childhood Christmases. The photo in the center was Christmas Eve 1997. I was surrounded by relatives as we opened presents while this photo was being taken. What you cannot tell from this photo is I had been locked in a bedroom just before this was photo was taken. I was being sexually abused by my older cousin. He trapped me in an upstairs bedroom. I was paralyzed with fear as I stood there and didn’t even know what to say because I already knew what he had come to do. The room was silent as you could hear the commotion of the rest of our large family celebrating downstairs. When I finally escaped that room after being abused I made my way downstairs as everyone was called to open presents. I remember sitting on that couch telling myself as long as I didn’t leave that room with all the adults he could not come after me again.

The thoughts racing through my head as I sat there opening presents and yet nobody had a clue what he had done. The looks he would give me from across the room. Little did I know he wasn’t done abusing me that night.

When it came time to leave on Christmas Eve my cousin’s parents were driving my sisters and I home. Tradition in our home we opened Christmas presents on Christmas Eve night instead of Christmas morning. My parents always left the party early to put the presents under the tree while another relative drove us home. Normally it was our grandparents but that Christmas it was my aunt and uncle. The abusive cousins parents. I was the last person to get in the minivan and every seat was taken. My cousin immediately said, “Erin can just sit on my lap.” I remember telling my younger sister to sit in our older sister’s lap but she wouldn’t and I found them all waiting on me to get in the car. I found myself with no other choice then to sit on his lap. Within minutes of the drive home my cousin slipped his hands under my dress and abused me the whole way home with his brother and my sister sitting right next to us totally unaware as I sat in silence the whole thirty minute drive home. I still remember the Christmas song playing on the radio when he started abusing me. I now turn it off every time it plays on the radio. When we arrived at our house my older sister couldn’t get out of the car fast enough. It was always a race with my sisters to who could get inside first and see what mom and dad bought us for Christmas. For me all that mattered was not the presents under the tree but getting away from that cousin of mine. That was the one Christmas in my childhood I never forgot what I wore due to the abuse I experienced that night.

A week after that Christmas I found myself locked in my cousin’s bedroom being held down as he abused me while our family was celebrating our grandpa’s birthday. Just as we could hear all our relatives downstairs singing happy birthday he whispered to me, “Remember this is our secret no one will believe you.”

So what is my point in telling you all of this? For some children the holidays are not the most joyful time of the year. So be alert parents just because you don’t think someone you know and trust within the family would ever harm your kids you can’t be 100% sure so talk to your kids about secrets and personal body safety even if you have already had the talk. Do it again! AND always keep a watchful eye on your children throughout the celebration. Keep checking in on them and know where they are.
Teachers when students come back from the winter break remind them if they ever need someone to talk to you’re a safe adult they can trust with anything. I cannot tell you how many times I have been told by teachers children disclosed in January after returning to school about being abused while on break.

Police details in court documents outline alleged sexual assault

WARNING: This article contains graphic content and may affect those who have experienced sexual violence or know someone affected by it.

New court documents that include interview transcripts and search warrant requests reveal why police investigators say they have reasonable grounds to accuse five World Junior hockey players of sexually assaulting a woman in a London, Ont., hotel room in 2018.

Details of the documents were first published in the Globe and Mail, which went to court to have them unsealed. CBC News obtained them independently Sunday from the Crown. Some of the material in the 94-page package that was submitted in Oct. has been redacted, including the names of those involved and specific sex acts.

None of the police allegations have been proven in court and no charges have been laid. The case was closed by London Police in 2018, but reopened again in 2022. Hockey Canada and the NHL are also investigating the incident.

The documents provide details of how the morning of June 19, 2018 unfolded from the perspective of the victim, who is referred to as E.M., and the subsequent guilt and shame she expressed to her mother, friend and later a police investigator.

The court filings also reveal that the man referred to as Player #1, who took E.M. back to his hotel room after meeting her for the first time at a downtown London bar, sent text messages to other players who would later come to the room where the alleged assaults took place.

He would also film two videos of E.M. in the hotel room where he would ask if she was OK. In one video she is wiping her eyes and slurring her words, the document said. E.M. told police she believed the video was taken at the end of the night and she had no recollection of it.

More child sex abuse images detected last year than previous

21 years combined - watchdog

A quarter of images detected ‘appeared to have been generated by children themselves’,

Hotline.ie warns

Ireland’s illegal online content watchdog detected 14,772 cases of child sexual abuse on the internet last year – more than all of the 21 previous years combined.

In its latest annual report, Hotline.ie said 2021 was the most “onerous” in its history working to detect and remove online abuse.

A quarter of the abuse images detected “appeared to have been generated by children themselves”, the report warned.

That is probably true but it should be understood that the vast majority of them had no intention of those images going online but they were spread by stupid, adolescent teens, and, or, adults who were able to capture them through trickery or extortion by online predators.

Schools are not preparing children for this kind of behaviour. Children need to be taught that once out there, even if it's sent to only one person under the promise of never sharing it, it's out there and you have no control over where it goes or how often it is reproduced.

Schools are so busy teaching children that girls can be boys and boys can be girls that the real dangers of child sexual abuse are ignored.

In these cases, there was evidence of “grooming or coercion by adults, particularly in the video material, such as a child receiving compliments, instructions or even threats [over video chat, other times from someone present in the room whilst not visible on camera]”.

Almost one in 10 (9 per cent) of the images were computer generated or drawn to depict gross child sexual abuse. Such images are illegal under Irish law.

Hotline.ie said “virtual” child abuse online had been steadily increasing over the past five years. Last year marked an “all-time high” in such images being detected.

“It is a concerning trend as it seeks to normalise the consumption of child sexual abuse imagery, in an attempt to desensitise from the physical and psychological harm suffered by real children who suffer sexual abuse and exploitation,” the watchdog said.

The report also details how sexual abuse images and videos of children aged from just four years old to 12 were the “most prevalent”, accounting for two-thirds (66 per cent) of all images detected.

The severity of the abuse ranged from “explicit sexual activity of a child to penetrative sexual assault of a child by an adult, to sadistic sexual torture and bestiality involving a child”.

In September last year, Hotline.ie launched its dedicated service targeting intimate image abuse (IIA) – the sharing of intimate images or videos without consent.

In its first 12 months of operation, it dealt with 773 reports. A similar operation in the UK dealt with 500 reports in its first year of operation, according to Hotline.ie.

Of the Irish reports, 525 contained the necessary information to locate the imagery online where it could be removed.

Hotline.ie said initial analysis suggested men were most likely to be victims of “sextortion” through “webcam blackmail” or a threat to expose sexual images.

Victims reported being threatened over social media, through dating apps or on video-chat services. However, only one in seven opted to have the abuse reported to An Garda Síochána.

Launching the report, acting Minister for Justice Simon Harris underlined the “important, worthy and difficult work” done by Hotline.ie.

“Each image is a crime,” he said. “Each image has a victim, or victims, who have suffered abuse, and who are re-victimised each time their abuse is viewed as it is shared across the globe. We must never become hardened or inured to these figures.”

Ana Niculescu, chief executive of Hotline.ie, said it could be “overwhelming” uncovering the online abuse “but we can’t afford to look away”.

“There is reason to be hopeful with online safety and cybercrime moving up the national and global agenda,” she added.

Last week, it was warned a three-year backlog in Garda forensic examinations of computers and devices used to view child sex abuse material (CSAM) put children at risk of “preventable abuse”.

Dr Conor O’Mahony, special rapporteur on child protection, said of almost 7,000 reports of online CSAM reported by a national hotline to gardaí in 2020, just 160 were investigated.

Describing such inaction by gardaí on CSAM as “alarming”, he said it left perpetrators “at large for extended periods” even after they had come to the attention of the Garda.

This is deplorable! They have to find the money to do better. Children should be the highest priority, not the lowest.

Scots football coach caged for raping boy and sexually abusing

others during reign of terror

One of evil Russell Conn's victims tried to commit suicide after the vile abuse,

with the coach's crimes spanning 19 years in total.

dailyrecord

Paedophile football coach Russell Conn has been jailed for nine years.

An ex-football coach is who inflicted a 19-year reign of sexual terror over boys, including the rape of a young player, was jailed on Thursday for nine years.

Russell Conn, who managed teams for over 26 years in Ayrshire, targeted teenagers when they were alone. The 59-year-old “groomed and abused” three boys between 1995 and 2014, leaving them “deeply damaged”.

Conn, who also worked as a delivery driver and a painter and decorator, abused two of the boys in his work vans. The court heard he earned their trust and had sexual conversations with them before the attacks.

The jury was told he was guilty of “the grooming and manipulation and sexual abuse of teenage boys” and would often give victims money as well as cigarettes.

Conn denied he’d done anything wrong. But, a jury unanimously convicted him of one charge of rape and four of sexual assault.

Judge Andrew Cubie told him at the High Court in Glasgow: “You were convicted of charges which was deliberate, calculated sexual abuse of three young men.

“Their evidence was powerful about their shame, experiences and effect it had on them. The offences were motivated by your own sexual appetite and sexual satisfaction.

“You express no remorse, understanding, or empathy for the wrongdoing you have done or the harm you have caused.

"You were able to carry on your own life while the victims suffered the consequences of your actions and you avoided justice into your seventies. Society has a repugnance to such crimes and the court must reflect that.”

Conn, of Stevenston, Ayrshire, was put on the sex offenders register indefinitely. His first victim, now 42, blamed himself for the abuse and said he had planned to die without ever revealing what had happened.

He said he “buried” what happened to him and “withdrew” into his “shell”, adding: “I had made peace with myself and thought I’d take it to my grave with me.

“I put it in a wee box at the back of my head, but there’s barely been a day gone by where I’ve not thought about it.”

His second victim tried to kill himself within seconds of being forced onto a couch and abused in Conn’s home.

Now a 27-year-old dad of three, he is unable to hold down a job because of mental health problems and struggles to go to the toilet due to the abuse.

And his third victim, now 23, was discharged from the Armed Forces and spent time in a mental hospital after revealing what had happened to him.

Geoffrey Forbes, defending, told the court at the sentencing that the dad-of-two continues to protest his innocence.
