Police Officer Charged with Child Sex Abuse 2 Weeks Ago, Now Charged with Rape of a Woman

Joshua Herbinger, a 29-year-old Birmingham police officer,
was arrested  earlier this month on child sex abuse charges.
He is now charged with the rape of an adult woman.
A Birmingham, Alabama, police officer has been charged with rape, less than a month after being charged with child sex abuse, police said.

Joshua Herbinger, 29, was charged with first-degree rape of an adult woman Monday.

The nine-year Birmingham police veteran was arrested at the Alabaster, Ala., police headquarters and is being held on a $60,000 bond set at the Shelby County Jail. Really? He's out on bail again? Why? It doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Police said more charges are possible.

Earlier this month, Herbinger was charged with four counts of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12.

Herbinger was arrested on Oct. 9 after a girl reported the alleged sex abuse to a school resource officer, the Alabama Media Group reports. The victim, who was not related to Herbinger, told police the alleged abuse occurred over the last two or three years.

He is due in court Nov. 5 to face the child sex abuse charges.

After the first arrest, the crime scene technician was placed on administrative duty with pay. Now Herbinger will most likely be placed on leave without pay, police said. He should be in jail!
