Increasing Child Sex Abuse at Schools Brings Increased Security

The Rural police and the School Jagrata Samiti (security council, I believe), along with Childline officials, have decided to step up vigil following the rising number of child sexual abuse on campuses.

At least two cases have been reported from madrasas in the limits of the Balussery and Nadapuram police stations last week. Balussery and Nadapuram are about 45 km apart in Kerala State, Southwest India. Both towns are about 10 km inland.

These fresh cases come close on the heels of the case of sexual assault of a four-year-old girl at an English medium school managed by of the Sirajul Huda Educational Complex at Parakkadavu here.

In one case, the Balussery police arrested a madrasa teacher, Vettiozhinjattam Kuruppachankandi Abdul Majeed, 45, from Punoor on the charge of sexually assaulting a 11-year-old-girl. Both the Childline authorities and the School Jagrata Samiti were instrumental in tracing the accused.

Nadapuram

However, the Nadapuram police had a difficult time nabbing the madrasa teacher accused of sexually abusing a nine-year-old boy near Vilathapuram Kuttiyil at Purameri, as he had gone absconding soon after the incident.

The accused, Noufal Sakafy, 27, of Urakam Melmuri, near Vengara, in Malappuram, was finally apprehended from Chattamangalam on the outskirts of the city. Investigators used the tower location of the mobile phone used by Noufal to trace him.

During interrogation the accused also confessed to abusing many children at the madrasa. But only one case had been registered so far since the police had not received any other complaints.

The police said that the accused arrested for child sex abuse were charged with sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and they are produced before the Principal District Sessions Court.
