On Being a Girl in India > Teen girl gang-raped by four men on her way to write Grade 8 exams

In the 16th century in The Voyage of J H van Linschoten to the East Indies: Linschoten describes the Indians as “the most leacherous and unchaste nation in all the orient, so that there are verie few women children (girls) among them of seven or eight yeares old, that have their maiden-heades.” (i.e. virginity).

There is nothing to indicate that Indian men have improved morally in the last 500 years. What a place to be a girl growing up!

Girls can’t even step out to pursue education without fearing rape. This country has failed its children.
