UK recognises 'acts of genocide' against Iraq's Yazidis by IS group

The British government on Tuesday officially acknowledged that the Islamic State group

committed "acts of genocide" against the Yazidi people in 2014.

The Yazidis -- whose pre-Islamic religion made them the target of IS extremists -- were subjected to massacres, forced marriages and sex slavery during the jihadists' 2014-15 rule in the northern Iraq province of Sinjar, the Yazidis' traditional home. 

The UK foreign office made the announcement ahead of events to mark "the nine year anniversary of atrocities" committed by the Islamic State against the Kurdish-speaking Yazidi minority in Iraq. 

"The UK has today formally acknowledged that acts of genocide were committed against the Yazidi people by Daesh in 2014," the statement said, using another name for IS. 

So far, the UK has acknowledged only four other instances where genocide has occurred, the Holocaust, Rwanda, Srebrenica, and acts of genocide in Cambodia.

"The Yazidi population suffered immensely at the hands of Daesh nine years ago and the repercussions are still felt to this day," UK's Middle East minister Tariq Ahmad said in the statement. 

"Justice and accountability are key for those whose lives have been devastated," he added.

Murad Ismael, co-founder of global Yazidi organisation Yazda, hailed the UK recognition as an "important step".

"Acknowledgement is the heart of justice process and helping victims to heal from the deep wounds of this genocide," he told AFP. 

"I am pleased that the UK government has formally recognised the horrors suffered by the Yazidis as genocide", said Nadia Murad, a Yazidi Nobel Peace Prize Laureate campaigning against the use of sexual violence in war, particularly against the Yazidis. 

"I hope that the British government will now begin to seek justice for the victims by holding British-born fighters to account," she added.

"The world cannot afford to let ISIS members walk free. It sends a message to the world that you can murder and rape with impunity."

German court ruling

The official UK recognition follows a German court judgement which found a former IS fighter guilty of acts of genocide in Iraq.

"The UK's position has always been that determinations of genocide should be made by competent courts," according to the statement.

In a landmark trial, a Frankfurt court in November 2021 sentenced Taha al-Jumailly to life in jail for crimes including the murder of a five-year-old Yazidi girl in Iraq.

Prosecutors said al-Jumailly in 2015 chained the enslaved child outdoors in extreme heat, leading to her dying of thirst.

Activists hailed the court ruling as a "historic" win. 

The verdict was upheld after the German Federal Court of Justice this January rejected the defendant's appeal. 

Germany is one of the few countries to have taken legal action against IS.

The UK's lower house of parliament, the House of Commons, had unanimously voted to condemn the IS's treatment of Yazidis and Christians in Iraq as amounting to genocide in 2016, in a rare instance of parliamentary determination of genocide. 

The foreign ministry had refused to acknowledge the genocide then, in keeping with a long-standing policy on the determination of genocide by courts rather than governments.

Nearly six years since Iraq declared "victory" over IS, many Yazidis have still not been able to return to Sinjar. 

Thousands still live in precarious conditions in camps for displaced people.

Those who have returned face an unstable security situation and inadequate or nonexistent public services.

India: Hindu parents fearful of sending girls to school after

series of love jihad incidents

Parents in the western Indian city of Ahmednagar are fearful of sending their daughters to school amid several cases of grooming of Hindu school girls and their attempted forced conversion to Islam, the New Delhi-based news website OpIndia reported.

The incident came to light after a group of Hindu girls filed a case against their female Muslim tutor who reportedly ran a grooming operation – subjecting them to coercion and blackmail. The tutor made minor girls wear burqa and introduced them to Muslim men, the report suggests. The local police and authorities failed to take adequate action against the Muslim grooming gang, the parents of the victims complain.

The news comes as Indians are increasingly alarmed by the Love Jihad being waged by Muslim grooming gangs targeting vulnerable Hindu and Christian girls across the country, recent Indian media reports show.

In a terrible update to the conversion case that was reported from the Rahuri region of Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra, the locals of Umbre village have unanimously decided not to send their girls to school fearing the rising grooming jihad incidents.

The official statement issued by the Umbre Gram Panchayat Karyalaya read that the parents of the victim girls and the others from the Hindu community are scared to send their daughters to school and tuition after the recent case of Love Jihad came to the fore from the village.

“We won’t send our girls to school from now onwards. All the parents in the village have decided that no girl will go to school unless the administration assures the security of our children. We all are terrified by the incident and are concerned about the safety and security of our girls. Our girls will do domestic chores instead and survive for their life if this is what they have to face at the places of education,” the letter read.

The letter also condemned the local police and the administration for allegedly lodging false FIR against Hindus who came forward to help the minor victim girls who were forced to wear burqa and convert their religion to Islam by some Muslims.

“The Police should take back the false cases lodged against Hindus who came forward to help the victim girls and their families. The Hindus were also brutally beaten by the police and the parents of the victim girls were also harassed,” the letter indicated demanding strict action against the police officer who booked Hindus and assaulted them based on the alleged false accusations imposed by the accused Muslims.

This comes days after a dreadful case of Love Jihad came to the fore from the Umbre region of Rahuri in Ahmednagar district. Around 3-4 minor Hindu girls filed a complaint against Avej Nisar Sheikh, Kaif Sheikh, Sohail Sheikh, Heena Sheikh, Alisha Sheikh, Salim Pathan, Altaf Sheikh and Shakir Sayyed for trapping them in a Love Jihad case and forcing them to wear burqa and convert their religion to Islam. As reported earlier, the girls were students of the accused tuition teacher Heena who groomed the girls to behave like Muslims. The teacher also stopped the girls from wearing kumkum and bangles.

Later, accused Heena also allowed some of the Muslim boys into her tuition who had nothing to do with her studies. She introduced them as her relatives and asked the girls to be friends with the boys.

The boys then trapped the girls into love affairs and forced them to convert their religion, wear a burqa and embrace Islam. The boys also had planned to abduct the girls.

The girls eventually realised the true face of the boys and filed a police complaint against eight persons, including tuition teacher Heena. According to the girls, the teacher helped the boys to attain their photographs which they morphed and used to blackmail the minor girls.

A case of love jihad recently came to light from a village in Mandvi taluka of Kutch district in Gujarat. A Dalit girl has filed a complaint against a man named Ziyad who is from Pune, Maharashtra, after which he was taken into custody by the Gujarat Police and was subsequently sent to a three-day remand by the court.

Now, the authorities have made several shocking disclosures regarding the matter. They stated that the accused Ziyad was in contact with 28 girls through social media, out of whom 22 were Hindu while 6 belonged to the Christian community.

The incident is at present viewed as a specially hatched conspiracy. The cops mentioned that Ziyad first used to trap girls and then forced them to embrace Islam. These revelations were made during the offender’s remand, which pointed towards a systematic and well-planned plot of love jihad.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) MJ Christian, who is looking into the matter, shared that 28 girls were messaged “Hi” and 22 of them were Hindus while the others were Christians. The details found on the mobile phone of the perpetrator were shocking. It also came to the fore that three more culprits were involved in the conspiracy apart from Ziyad. Currently, further investigation is underway.

The background of the matter

According to the complaint lodged at the police station, the victim moved to Mumbai from her native Kutch with her family, three years ago. Meanwhile, Ziyad created a fake ID with the name Jigar on an online gaming platform and introduced himself to her. Afterwards, she was assaulted and raped twice. She was a minor at the time.

The complainant then asked Ziyad to marry her when he revealed his true identity and told her that he was a Muslim. She snapped ties with him just as she learned about his deceit, however, he continued to harass her to convert and wed him.

The victim grew tired of his actions and went to her hometown along with her family for two years. A few months ago, the girl got engaged to a young man from her own community, which infuriated Ziyad, who released her obscene photographs on social media….

…In Nankoma, Bugiri District, a mother of three children was beaten and burned with acid by her Muslim husband after he learned she had put her faith in Christ.

Hidaaya Nabafa, 27, was receiving hospital treatment for severe burns after the attack by Juma Nsibambi, 42, she said.

Nabafa have received Christ in August at a church in Nankoma village, undisclosed for security reasons. Keeping her faith secret, she had gone to a worship service on Oct. 9 while her husband was in Kampala.

“When I came back at 4 p.m., I found my husband at home, and he asked me about where I have been; I kept quiet for a while,” Nabafa told Morning Star News from her hospital bed. “At last, I decided to tell him the truth that I gave my life to Jesus.”

She had Christian tracts about the life of Christ, she said.

“Upon hearing my confession, he got annoyed and boxed me and started beating me up,” Nabafa said. “I tried to make an alarm for rescue, but all in vain.”

Nsibambi momentarily left, leaving her on the ground, and when he returned he poured battery acid on her, she said.

“I lost consciousness, only to find myself in the hospital bed,” said the mother of children ages 7, 5 and 2….

The Sharia penalty for apostasy is death.

It is beyond the comprehension of most Westerners that any teen girl’s father and brothers could murder her for apostasy; they choose to follow written tenets…

“They wish that you would disbelieve even as they disbelieve, that you may be on the same level. So do not choose friends from them until they migrate in the way of Allah, if they turn back, then take them and kill them wherever you find them, and choose no friend or helper from among them.” (Quran 4:89)

The Prophet said, ‘If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him.'” (Sahih Bukhari 52:260)

Of course not all Muslims do follow such tenets, as is the case with “Mary Olowe’s” mother, who took her to safety and likely needs a haven herself.

Nigerian Teen Whose Christian Conversion Triggered Death Threats

Granted Restraining Order

An 18-year-old Nigerian Christian convert has been granted a court order protecting her from her father and brothers, who have been threatening to kill her for leaving the Islamic religion.

Identified by the pseudonym Mary Olowe, the woman was smuggled to safety in a Christian community by her mother, according to Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) International, the religious freedom organization that assisted in the case.

There's a safe Christian community in Nigeria? Really?

Following the threats, Olowe and her mother sought a restraining order against the father and brothers. ADF International announced the Nigerian high court’s order on Friday.

The order said that “the defendants are hereby restrained from threat and attempt on the life of the applicant following her decision to change from the practice of Islam to Christianity and also not to breach her fundamental rights as to the choice of her religion or thoughts.”

The ruling was not appealed, according to ADF International.

“We are relieved that Mary has found protection from these credible threats and that the court recognized her fundamental right to convert from Islam to Christianity,” Sean Nelson, legal counsel for ADF International, said in a statement Friday.

“This is an important decision that we pray will help others facing threats to their lives only because they came to believe in Christ,” he said.

Nelson said that no one should be persecuted for their faith, adding that Nigerian Christian converts from Islam often are targeted and discriminated against for their change in religion….

The Nigerian constitution has no official state religion and provides for religious freedom, according to the U.S. State Department’s 2022 Report on International Religious Freedom in Nigeria….

According to ADF International, 5,500 Christians were killed for their faith last year across the globe and Nigerians constituted 90% of those deaths….

Cops forced Muslim woman to remove hijab for mugshot: lawsuit

A devout Muslim woman was threatened with indefinite jail time if she didn’t take off her hijab for a booking photo in Tennessee, a new federal lawsuit says.

Forcing an observant Muslim woman to remove her hijab in front of men who are not family is “humiliating and degrading,” according to the lawsuit, which likened doing so to making a woman remove her shirt in public.

Seriously! Exposing one's breasts is hardly like exposing one's hair. 

No man outside of Sophia Johnston’s family has seen her hair since she was a child — as that would go against her religious beliefs — until Aug. 23, when she was booked in Rutherford County on a six-year-old outstanding warrant for driving on a suspended license, a complaint filed Aug. 29 in Nashville federal court says.

Johnston, who is white and Black, is a proud American Muslim, she told McClatchy News on Aug. 31.

How is it that Black is capitalized but white is not? Interesting!

On Aug. 23, Johnston unsuccessfully pleaded with Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office deputies to allow her to keep her hijab on for her mugshot, according to the complaint. The deputies are accused of denying her request for a religious accommodation.

After an intake officer warned Johnston she’d stay in jail until she took the photo without her hijab, she saw no other choice but to comply, as she has eight children and “could not afford to be incarcerated indefinitely,” the complaint says….

Afghanistan: sharp rise in female suicides ‘explicitly linked’

According to the Middle East Institute, the Taliban’s “religious roadmap for Afghanistan” is grounded in strict Sharia, as Jihad Watch has frequently stated. The Taliban pledge:

We are devout Muslims who fight for God and oppose corrupt leaders — whether they are former Afghan communists, jihadi leaders, or educated technocrats — and we have an alternative vision for a new Afghanistan. 

It has been argued — and not without Islamic apologists expressing deep offense — that the more religious a Muslim becomes, the more abusive and intolerant of infidels, minorities and women he or she becomes. Yet it is often true. The dictates of the Sharia that Westerners find most objectionable are based on Islamic tenets, which are adhered to strictly by groups such as the Taliban, al-Qaeda, the Islamic State and the like. Recently, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared of the Taliban that “Turkey has nothing that contradicts their beliefs.”

In Afghanistan, women are a main focus for human rights groups, since their lives are in utter misery under Taliban rule. 90% of women in Afghanistan “are subjected to some form of domestic violence.” They are oppressed and dictated to by their government and their male guardian overlords.

It was not an isolated act of desperation. Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in the summer of 2021, there has been a disturbing surge in the number of women taking their own lives or attempting to do so, data collected from public hospitals and mental health clinics across a third of Afghanistan’s provinces shows….

Every year, about 1,000 Christian and Hindu girls are kidnapped and forced to convert to Islam and marry Muslim men. Others are coerced into such a marriage after extreme harassment. “Love jihad,” as it is called, is consistent with the sex slavery of infidels that is sanctioned by the Qur’an 4:3, 4:24, 23:1-6, 33:50, 70:30).

This case takes the abuse of a Hindu girl to another level. For refusing to marry her father-in-law, “the woman was brutally assaulted by her husband’s family members and was thrown out of the house as well.” The world ignores the routine human rights abuses of infidels as it focuses on “Islamophobia.”

In the Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh, a shocking case of love jihad and torture has come to the fore wherein a Hindu girl from Lucknow was converted to Islam by her Muslim man named Abu Hamid Ansari and after that, she was asked to become his father’s wife too after they had a Nikah. Upon refusing to give in to their bizarre demand, the woman was brutally assaulted by her husband’s family members and was thrown out of the house as well.

In a video statement posted by Sudarshan News, the victim alleged that her husband had assured her that she would not be harassed or tortured after she converted to Islam and performed Nikah with him in 2020. A Sudarshan News report also shows the Nikahnama of the victim and her husband. The family lived in Aligarh and then shifted to Bareilly. The woman said that her marriage was a case of love jihad and it was solemnised by deceit because she was lured into converting to Islam and marrying the Muslim man by assuring that she would not be harassed.

However, after performing Nkah [sic] with the use of deceit, as claimed by the victim, her husband’s father Abu Huraira Ansari told her that he would not keep her at his home as his daughter-in-law but as his own wife. Her husband also forced her to become the wife of her father-in-law too.

I would hazard a guess that this was the plan all along.

She added that her father-in-law tried to force her to comply with his demands, however, she refused to become his wife. Following this, Abu Hamid’s family, including his father Huraira, brother Sayeed, whom the victim accused of being the mastermind, another brother Abu Sufiyan, sister Habeeba, mother Sayeeda Khatoon and others brutally thrashed her and expelled her from their home….

Yet another case of love jihad against Hindu girls by trapping them in love affairs and marrying them has come to light from Madhya Pradesh, this time from Indore. The name of Congress councilor Anwar Qadri alias Anwar Dakait has also come to light in this case. It is being reported that Anwar Qadri had given lakhs of rupees to his two henchmen, Sahil Sheikh and Altaf Khan, to trap Hindu girls, and then later convert them to Islam after marrying them.

Anwar Qadri had apparently given money to both of them and told them to trap Hindu girls by marrying them and then asked them to push them into prostitution. Now the police is investigating this Indore love jihad case. The councilor is currently absconding. Raids are being conducted to search for him.

The police had arrested the accused Sahil and Altaf in the case on Friday, June13. Both have admitted to taking money from the Congress councilor. Sahil admitted that he was given Rs 2 lakh to marry a Hindu girl. At the same time, Altaf also admitted that he too had received Rs 1 lakh. The councilor had promised to give the remaining amount after ‘the work’ was completed. A video of the statements of both is also going viral.

In this video, love jihadis Sahil and Altaf also show pictures of some Hindu girls on their phones. They had trapped these girls by creating Hindu IDs on social media. Then they called them for a meeting and sexually exploited them. After this, there was a plan to get married to them and convert them to Islam. The accused said that the Congress councilor had also asked them to force these girls into ‘dhandha’.

The police has registered a case against Congress councilor Anwar Qadri on the basis of the statement of the two accused. After this, when they reached Qadri’s house to arrest him, he could not be found. Now the police is continuously searching for him. The police said that Sahil and Altaf are still being interrogated, and they will be in remand till Monday (June 16).

Sahil Sheikh and Altaf Khan were caught red handed by Bajrang Dal workers when they had gone to meet a Hindu girl in a public place. Bajrang Dal caught Sahil in the Super Corridor area. After this, the girl was sent home and both the accused were beaten up….

The Bajrang Dal worker revealed that a chat was found open in the mobile phone of one of the accused. In this, he is talking to a Hindu youth and threatening him. The accused says, “I am the girl’s boyfriend and live in Narwal. Do whatever you can. I will make her accept Islam and you will not be able to do anything to me.” When the youth asked the reason, he said, “This is what is written in our religion.”…

Here, Sahil told the girl that he loves her very much. He also made physical relations with her by promising marriage. The victim did not tell this to anyone for fear of defamation. Then when the truth came out, she distanced herself from Sahil. But on May 30, Sahil again called her to meet him at a cafe in Vijay Nagar and raped her there.

The girl said that when she protested, Sahil lured her with money. Sahil said, “You just convert once, I will give you as much money as you ask for.” The girl said that Sahil also forced her to wear a burqa.

A six-year-old girl was married to a 45-year-old man in Helmand Province, local sources said, in a case that has sparked widespread condemnation after an image of the wedding circulated on social media.

The ceremony took place in Marjah District, where the child’s father reportedly arranged the marriage in exchange for money. The groom, according to local sources, already has two wives.

Muslim fathers really love their daughters, but they love money more.

The union was set to be formalized on Friday with the girl’s transfer to her husband’s home. However, Taliban officials intervened and temporarily halted the process. The man was briefly detained but not prosecuted. Instead, sources said, the Taliban instructed him to wait until the girl turns nine before bringing her home.

Images from the ceremony, showing the man beside the visibly young girl, have provoked outrage online and among rights advocates, who say the case reflects a broader rise in child marriages in southern Afghanistan — particularly in provinces like Helmand, Kandahar, and Zabul, where the Taliban exert strong control….

Christian Mother in Pakistan Raped at Gunpoint

LAHORE, Pakistan (Christian Daily International–Morning Star News) – A Christian mother of five children in Pakistan was raped at gunpoint by a Muslim who had been harassing and pressuring her to convert to Islam and marry him, her husband said.

The 36-year-old woman was alone in her house in Chak No. 134/16L village in Mian Channu, Khanewal District, Punjab Province, on June 11 when Rashid Anwaar intruded through an open door at around 3 p.m., said her husband, brick kiln worker Indrias Paulus.

Their house is located across a field from Anwaar, Paulus said.

“He would often harass my wife to convert and marry him whenever she went outside,” Paulus told Christian Daily International-Morning Star News. “We repeatedly complained to Rashid’s family to stop him from harassing her, but he did not stop.”

On the day of the assault, their children had gone to their grandparents’ home, leaving the main door open, he said. His wife, whose name is withheld as a rape victim, was unwell and was resting in a room.
