Muncie Star Press

MUNCIE, Ind. — A Muncie man arrested in September on allegations he had repeatedly sexually abused a child was taken into custody again this week after another accuser came forward.

Kevin Matthew Schoeff
, 37, was arrested Wednesday on preliminary counts of child molesting, performing sexual conduct in the presence of a minor and two counts of child seduction.

Schoeff was released from the Delaware County jail after posting a $95,000 bond. The preliminary molesting charge was a Level 1 felony carrying up to 40 years in prison.

According to an affidavit, a child has told authorities Schoeff had repeatedly sexual abused him over a period of approximately eight years, beginning when the accuser was about 4 years old.

City police searched the Muncie man's home on Dec. 5 based on the new allegations.

Schoeff's September arrest came after another child reported she had been repeatedly been assaulted by the Muncie man over a period of several years.

Preliminary charges in that case also included child molesting, child seduction, and performing sexual conduct in the presence of a minor.

Schoeff — released in September after posting a $125,000 bondreportedly told police some of the sex acts described by the first accuser "definitely could have happened" while he was trying to tickle the child.

Lawton, Ok, dirty ol' man claims 'didn't have to work hard' for
child sex abuse charge
By Scott Rains swoknews
Jan 8, 2021

A 73-year-old man accused of gross sexual misconduct with at least one young boy last summer is free on $20,000 bond.

Investigators said he admitted to inappropriate conduct with one boy but noted, “I didn’t have to work hard for it.”

So, that means it was easier than he thought it would be. Pretty much encouraging him to try it again once he gets out, if he gets out.

Douglas B. Brown
, of Lawton, made his initial appearance Thursday in Comanche County District Court where he was charged with a felony count of lewd or indecent acts to a child under 16, records indicate. The crime is punishable with between two years to 20 years in prison.

Lawton Police began investigating Brown on Tuesday after the three boys’ mother reported the activity. She said the boys told her Brown had touched them inappropriately on July 4, 2020, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The family has since moved to North Carolina and a forensic interviewer spoke with the boys. Two of the boys shared their stories but a third resisted.

During an interview with investigators, Brown said he’d been at the home with the boys and admitted to inappropriate touching and kissing of one of the boys, the affidavit states. He denied any sexual activity with the other two boys.

Free on $20,000 bond, Brown returns to court at 3 p.m. April 29 for his preliminary hearing conference, records indicate.

ST. HELENS, OR (KPTV) - A St. Helens man was sentenced to nine years in prison for child sexual abuse.

Following Harper’s arrest, St. Helens police said investigators conducted numerous interviews, collected evidence related to the case, and ensured the safety of the victim as the investigation unfolded.

The case was presented to a Columbia County grand jury, and the grand jury indicted Harper on charges of first-degree sexual abuse and unlawful sexual penetration.

Along with nine years in prison, Harper was sentenced to 10 years of post-prison supervision.

Michigan foster parents charged with child sex abuse in 2012, 2016
..
New information came to light in March 2020, after one of the accused
was treated at a local hospital

GENESEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJRT) - A mid Michigan man goes to the hospital for a health concern and comes out accused of sexually abusing two minors.

Genesee Township Police say no criminal actions happened at the hospital, but information came out that led to criminal charges for both the man and his wife.

Investigators believe there could be at least a dozen more victims.

Right now, this couple is facing charges in connection with two victims, but the Genesee County Prosecutor said one more person has already come forward.

When asked how the alleged victims are coping, David Leyton simply said they’re struggling.

“If somebody sees something or brings it to our attention, you know, no matter what it is, we’ll investigate it,” Genesee Township Police Chief John Mullaly said.

He explained these accusations against 44-year-old Shawn McClain and his 48-year-old wife Dawn McClain stem from 2016.

“There were some other youngsters in the home, who made some complaints that they were concerned about what was going on,” Leyton explained. “And they were also concerned for their own safety.”

An investigation began; but the Chief said during questioning, those kids took back what they said. That forced the case’s status to change to ‘inactive’.

Then, in March 2020, Chief Mullaly said Shawn McClain was admitted to the hospital. While he was there, the Chief said more information came out, prompting his detectives to revisit that 2016 case.

With help from Voices for Children, CPS and the state health department, Shawn McClain and his wife, Dawn McClain faced a judge this week on 17 felony charges.

Shawn McClain is accused of sexually assaulting a girl on and off for six years, starting when she was 12-years-old. Leyton said he’s accused of doing the same to a boy who was 7-years-old when it started in 2012.

Searching through McClain’s phone, the Prosecutor said they also found three inappropriate photos of children.

“We’ve charged Dawn McClain on a theory of aiding and abetting. We believe that she assisted her husband,” Leyton added.

Leyton acknowledged these two are innocent until proven guilty, a point Shawn McClain’s defense attorney, Nicholas Robinson, also made.

“Why did it take so long? Why has it been five years? Why has it been nine years that you are now finally coming forward and speaking with the police? What happened? Why didn’t you do it at the time, if it actually happened?” Robinson questioned.

The pair have been foster parents, which has investigators working to track down at least 11 other kids who have been in what the Prosecutor calls their “circle of influence”.

The Chief said many of their names have changed, posing a big challenge.

If you have any information for investigators, you’re urged to call the police.

Florida man who financed child sex-trafficking ring in the Philippines
sentenced to life in prison
by Erin O'Brien, NBC2
January 7, 2021 - Updated on January 8, 2021

TAMPA, Fla. — A Land O’ Lakes man will spend the rest of his life in prison for sex trafficking a child younger than 14-years-old, officials said.

Christopher John Streeter
, 63, pleaded guilty in October 2020 for sexually exploiting children in the Philippines. He would produce sex-abuse videos for his own use, court documents said.

Streeter confessed to working with Philippines-based facilitators to recruit children to engage in sex acts on camera from September 2018 through June 2019, according to the Department of Justice.

The child victims — some who were as young as 12 and 13 years of age — were particularly vulnerable due to poverty and illness.

Streeter sent money to the Philippines for videos and images of children involved in various sex acts, according to the DOJ. He would often negotiate and pay a premium for videos and images that showed girls losing their virginity and being harmed by other forms of sexual violence.

The list goes on… Streeter would negotiate and pay for images and videos of girls being placed at risk of pregnancy and paid for emergency contraception pills and, occasionally, abortions.

One of Streeter’s victims was a 12-year-old girl from Ozamis, Philippines. On multiple occasions, while in the Tampa Bay area, Streeter paid a recruiter to arrange for sex-abuse videos be made of the girl. At one point, Streeter told the recruiter he was unhappy that the videos didn’t show the insemination of the girl and that she would need to take Plan B in future videos.

Six child sex-trafficking victims, including the 12-year-old girl, were rescued by the Philippine Department of Social Welfare and Development. Philippine authorities also arrested the recruiter.

Streeter will spend the rest of his life in federal prison.

State plans to revoke Dayton daycare license after sex abuse allegations

Dayton child care closed after state complaint of possible abuse
By: WHIO Staff
Updated: January 8, 2021 - 11:05 AM

DAYTON — Dayton police said they are now seeking the public’s help in an investigation into multiple allegations of sex abuse at Pat’s Care Away from Home last year.

The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services received a complaint on Jan. 13, 2020 involving inappropriate touching between an adult and child, said Bret Crow, spokesman for the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.

““The investigation into this matter is ongoing and detectives are working diligently and using every investigative technique at their disposal to identify the person(s) responsible,” Dayton police spokeswoman Cara Zinski-Neace said. “Despite these efforts, the investigation is at juncture where additional information is needed and we are asking that anyone with information regarding this case to contact the Dayton Police Department.”

The state suspended Pat’s Care Away from Home’s license three days later following an inspection that revealed the child care center had a serious risk violation when a “staff member did not protect infant from a serious injury,” the state inspection read.

That same inspection was updated this week and the state now shows that it plans to revoke the daycare’s license, online data shows.

The complaint to the state came two days after Dayton police were contacted by a social worker at Dayton Children’s Hospital about possible sexual abuse involving a 6-month-old girl at the daycare, according to police records. The social worker told police dispatchers the girl was injured.

The social worker said the possible abuse happened at the daycare, but was not able to provide any further information about possible people involved.

A separate police memo report filed Jan. 30 shows the Dayton Police Department responded to the daycare after a social worker wanted to report another possible case of sexual abuse possibly involving a 3-year-old boy.

According to the Jan. 30 police memo, a mother brought her son to Dayton Children’s Hospital after she “was concerned that her son had been sexually assaulted.”

The social worker told investigators the mother was concerned because her son “has been urinating himself, has a loss of appetite, and has started to touch (his mother’s) breast and vagina,” the report read.

The mother told officers that her son had been attending Pat’s Care Away from Home and she had noticed the closing notice on the door of the business on Jan. 17, but said she was not given an explanation.

The mother told police she was told by an employee on Jan. 30 that the daycare was closing “due to a teacher molesting one of the children,” the report read.

“(The mother) stated that she was told that the other child had medical evidence such as bruising to their private area,” the report said.  “(She) stated that she tried to find out more about the situation, but no one could tell her anything.”

The day care declined to comment when reached by News Center 7 last year about this story.

Anyone with information on this case can call Dayton Police at 333-COPS or Crime Stoppers at 222-STOP. A cash reward is being offered for information that leads to solving the case.

Kyle, Tx man arrested, charged with sexual assault of child
at Austin preschool
Luz Moreno-Lozano
Austin American-Statesman

A Kyle man was arrested Friday morning after police said he sexually assaulted a child at a preschool in Austin in 2017.

According to an arrest warrant, Austin police responded on Nov. 19 to a call reporting a sex crime that had occurred three years ago.

A woman told police that her 8-year-old daughter had recently made an outcry about being sexually abused by a man named "Mr. Steven" in 2017.

In an interview with police, the girl told authorities that the man, later identified as 20-year-old Steven Ahlberg, touched her inappropriately on numerous occasions while she was attending Reggio Emilia Multilingual Preschool Academy located in the 5700 block of McCarty Lane near East U.S. 290 in Austin. The child was 5 years old at the time, the warrant said.

Steven Ahlberg was 17 years old when the abuse took place, police said.

The girl also told police he would cover her mouth so she could not scream and told her not to tell anyone, the arrest warrant said.

Police said they spoke with preschool officials and they said they were not aware of any allegations of sexual misconduct. The owner of the preschool said the only man on staff was her son, later identified as Ahlberg, and that he worked there as a relief teacher for other staff, the warrant said. According to the document, the preschool owner said that even though Ahlberg was not officially assigned to the girl's room, he would have assisted in her care when relieving her primary teacher

People, please, never, never, never leave your children at daycare where men or teenage boys may be present, even the owner's son, or husband, or father.

According to the warrant, daycare documents provided to police showed that the girl attended the preschool for about a year starting in late 2017, and that the girl said the abuse lasted nearly the entire duration of her time there up until she left to attend kindergarten, which is when police believe the abuse to have stopped.

The Austin Police Department requested assistance from the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force to locate and arrest Ahlberg for aggravated sexual assault of a child. Members of the task force conducted an investigation and arrested him in the 200 block of Screech Owl Drive in Kyle.

Ahlberg was taken to the Hays County Jail where he will await further judicial proceedings.

Sherwood High teacher arrested after indictment on 29 counts of
child sex crimes in Portland, Ore
Updated Jan 08, 2021; Posted Jan 08, 2021
By Eder Campuzano | The Oregonian/OregonLive

A longtime Sherwood High School teacher turned himself in to Portland police this week after a grand jury indicted him on 29 counts of sex crimes involving children.

Brian David Trostel, 60, was hired at the school in 1995 and fired on Dec. 18 after district officials learned of his arrest, a spokesperson said in a release.

The charges include two counts of using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, 16 counts of encouraging child sex abuse and 11 counts of invasion of privacy.

Portland police said they believe Trostel’s alleged crimes were committed in the city and the agency has identified a victim.

“At this time we have no reason to believe students within our district have involvement in any current investigation related to Mr. Trostel,” Sherwood district spokesperson Christine Andregg wrote in a release.

She told The Oregonian/OregonLive the district has reported Trostel to the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission, which has the authority to revoke his license to teach in Oregon.

Since 2004, the agency has revoked the licenses of two other Sherwood educators for sex crimes involving children.

In August of 2003, then-Sherwood High Principal Robert Patton resigned after he was convicted of possession of materials depicting sexually explicit conduct of a child and sexual abuse. His educator license was revoked three months later.

In 2014, Denise Keesee pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy when she was a teacher at Sherwood High.

The former educator faced six counts of second-degree sexual abuse involving two students, including the one she admitted to assaulting. The boy’s mother first reported finding inappropriate text messages between her son and Keesee in 2008.

That investigation was dropped until allegations involving another student surfaced in 2012. Her teaching license was revoked in April of 2015.
