Dubai: A man who raped his maid while she was asleep inside his Dubai house has been sentenced to 10 years in jail, to be followed by deportation.

Dubai Court of First Instance heard that the maid — who claimed she had a tendency to fall into deep sleep — alleged that she was raped by her employer while she was sleeping. She woke up in the middle of the act.

The 30-year-old maid from Angola said that the 36-year-old Pakistani defendant raped her while she was sleeping inside her room at the defendant’s house in Al Barsha, Dubai, in August last year. “I woke up to see him naked on my bed. I asked him to leave and I rushed out of the house crying. I then alerted Dubai Police. I’m a heavy sleeper and didn’t feel it while the defendant was touching my body,” said the maid on record.

A 26-year-old Emirati policeman testified that he saw the victim outside the villa, crying, and she told him that her employer had raped her. “The defendant admitted that he had entered the room to change the door’s lock when he saw her sleeping. He said that she was only wearing a black shirt,” the policeman said on record.

Dubai Public Prosecution has charged the defendant with raping the victim.

The verdict will be subject to appeal within 15 days.

Dubai: A prostitution ring has been broken in Egypt after perpetrators were found guilty of turning a school into a brothel and holding sex parties in the evening after students go home, local media reported.

The Egyptian Public Prosecution revealed the ring comprised of seven members, including the school’s 58-year-old security guard identified as Hamdi .H, a 29-year-old cleaner, identified as Amira. B, a 35-year-old factory female employee, identified as Amal. H, as well as another 51-year-old female employee, 46-year-old driver, 55-year-old male employee and the Head of Nursing at a governmental mental health hospital.

The Public Prosecution’s investigations concluded that the culprits were holding sex parties inside classes by inviting to school prostitutes and those looking for sex services in exchange for money. The suspects were caught red-handed while holding a party in the first floor of the school.

The investigations also revealed that the school security guard was part of the ring and when confronted, he admitted to facilitating the work of the ring and was arrested pending further investigation.

The case came to light when the school principal reported the incident to the police after he saw the guard along with two men and two women inside the school and learnt that he is taking advantage of the school's amenities to facilitate prostitution.

Upon raiding the school, security authorities found one of the suspects red-handed inside a class although the guard already claimed that the men and women came to school in order to visit relatives.

All the suspects have been arrested and referred to public prosecution pending trial.

I think schools should be multi-purpose facilities, but that's not what I had in mind.

India: Mother batters two daughters to death in Andhra Pradesh
believing they will come back to life

Father watches grisly act in silence and then informs colleague

Hyderabad: In a horrifying incident, a mother bludgeoned her two daughters in their 20s allegedly at the advice of a tantric priest or black magician. This happened even as their father watched the grisly act in silence.

The shocking incident occurred in Ankieshettypalle village of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday night.

Police reached the scene of the incident after a tip off. The police identified the victims as 27-year-old Alekhya and 22-year-old Sai Divya. Police said after the double murder, the girls’ father informed his colleague over phone about the incident, who in turn alerted the police.

Religious rituals

Police have taken both the parents into custody and recovered a trident and a dumbbell used to kill the two girls.

Attractive, talented, brilliant, young women! What madness caused this?

Police officials said they would send the parents for medical examination to ascertain their mental condition. While the mother, V. Padmaja, a gold medalist in MSC (mathematics) works as principal and correspondent at Masterminds IIT Talent School, the father, V. Purushottam Naidu, is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Women’s Government Degree College at Madanapalle, police said.

The battered and bloodied bodies of the two girls lying in a pool of blood were moved to the government hospital at Madanapalle. Police found several tell-tale marks of religious rituals in the house suggesting that the double murder was related to some superstitious beliefs. The heads of the girls were half tonsured and there were marks of vermillion on them. There were small silver pots in their mouths. Police say the two girls were naked when they were killed but were later draped in red sarees.

‘Highly educated family’

The elder sister Alekhya had completed her MBA and was working at a forest management institute in Bhopal, while the younger Sai Divya, after completing her graduation in Business Administration, was learning music at AR Rahman Music Academy in Chennai. Both the girls were on a home visit and were staying at family home where the family had moved only last year.

Hundreds of curious people gathered outside the recently built house of the family as the heinous act sent shock waves across the state. A CLUES team rushed to the town from the district headquarters of Chittoor to gather evidence of what happened on Sunday. Police also seized the photo albums showing the family together and posing with various idols and religious figures.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Ravi Manohara Chary who is supervising the probe said that the police were looking into the incident from all possible angles. “We are also going through the CCTV footage to identify all the people who visited the house over the last few days to establish the motive behind the murder”.

'Girls will be reborn'

When the police rushed to the house late last night, the parents resisted them and opposed removing the bodies saying that the “girls will come back by morning”. “The Atmas (souls) left and they were supposed to come back. But they did not. I have lost my daughters,” a hysterical Padmaja told the police later. Police officials described the condition of the mother as “delusional”.

While Padmaja insisted that she did the act on her own and nobody had advised her to do so, police were trying to find the people who visited the house for rituals over the past few days. Police believe that some one brainwashed the parents that their daughters will be reborn in “Satyug” (era of truth).

The police are also going through the social media handles of both the girls to understand what happened to them.

Cairo: An Egyptian female lawmaker has proposed making beating one’s wife an offence punishable by up to five years in prison.

MP Amal Salama said she has finalised a draft law and is rallying up support from her colleagues in the legislature to present for debate and approval.

The draft introduces amendments to Egypt’s penal code and proposes a minimum three-year jail term for the spouse beating his wife, Salama said in a statement.

“The state authorities are committed to protecting the woman from all forms of violence,” she said. “The issue of beating wives has become a grave danger for the Egyptian family and a threat to peace,” she added. “Some men believe that beating [the wife] makes him appear more manly and stronger in the wife’s eyes.”

Around 86 per cent of wives in Egypt are subjected to violence, Salama added, citing figures of an official pro-women council.

She argued that the nation’s penal code does not include “appropriate penalties” for wife beating.

“My amendments are based on Article No 11 of the Egyptian constitution that provides for equality between the woman and the man in all civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights,” she said.

A large number of lawmakers have “expressed great enthusiasm” for backing the draft, she added without giving a specific figure.

At least one tenth of the 596-member assembly must endorse any draft bill to allow it to be presented for discussion.

Dubai: In yet another crime shocking Egyptian society, a man allegedly raped his brother's wife with his consent "to humiliate her after suspecting her behaviour", local media reported.

The incident, which took place in Giza, the third-largest city in Egypt, came to light after the victim filed a case against her brother-in-law, accusing him of raping her and filming the incident.

Immediately after receiving the report, Al Hawamdiya Police station formed a team to investigate the case, and found that the husband had a criminal record and was in constant conflict with his wife.

Extensive investigations also revealed that the husband was involved in the rape of his wife to humiliate her after he suspected her behaviour.

A video clip of the incident was found on the husband’s phone, and when confronted with the video, the two suspects confessed. The husband said that he had agreed with his brother to rape his wife in order to "humiliate her" after suspecting her behaviour.

The investigations also revealed that the crime took place while the husband was out of the house, where the rapist  sexually assaulted her by force and filmed the incident on his mobile phone.

Both the husband and his brother were arrested and referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigations.

A Christian woman who was eight months pregnant lost her baby after Hindu extremists attacked her, pushing her to the ground and kicking her stomach in central India’s Madhya Pradesh state.

Morning Star News reports that a group of Christians in Dewada village, Barwani District had organized a church service of thanksgiving and prayer ahead of the New Year. The service, planned from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., was open to all, and a celebration meal was planned for the afternoon of Jan. 1.

As the Christians prepared for the celebration, a mob of about 30 Hindu extremists carrying wooden batons and stones approached the home.

The assailants, believed to be affiliated with the Hindu extremist group Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, the ideological mother of the ruling party in the state, the Bharatiya Janata Party, began beating the Christian men and sexually harassing the women, accusing them of carrying out forced conversions, according to the homeowner, Sardar Vaskale.

“Will you people never learn?” members of the mob said, according to Vaskale. “We will not let you conduct the prayer meeting, nor will we let you slaughter the goat; you are carrying out conversions.”

Hearing the commotion outside the home, Leela Bai, who was eight months pregnant, rushed outside. The mob reportedly pushed her down and kicked her stomach until she fell unconscious, and later that evening she miscarried on the way to a hospital.

“I fell down and landed on my stomach,” Bai, 25, said. “I got dizzy, and immediately someone from the mob came and started kicking my stomach.”

“My baby died in my womb after they pushed me down and kicked my stomach,” she said.

Bai’s husband, Rakesh Alawe, soon arrived and rushed her to the Thikri hospital two miles away, accompanied by some older Christian women.

“Leela’s pain intensified as we drove in the ambulance,” Alawe told Morning Star News.

Leela added, “Before we reached the hospital, I delivered the baby inside the ambulance, and he was a dead baby.”

Though Bai was weak from blood loss by the time she reached the hospital, authorities did not give her any medical treatment due to pressure from Hindu extremists, she and her husband said.

“The medical staff did not check me, nor did they give me any injection or medicines,” Bai told Morning Star News. “I just lay on the bed like a half-dead person for six or seven hours.”

“They did not treat me in the hospital, and when I asked a nursing staff to give me something for my weakness and dizziness, she shouted back at me and asked me to keep quiet,” she continued.

The hospital appears to have made no record of their visit, according to Morning Star News, and Sub-Divisional Officer of Police Ruprekha Yadav denied that the couple went to the Barwani District hospital.

In total, the Hindu extremists attacked eight Christians, including children, before calling the police to arrest the believers under Madhya Pradesh’s newly enacted “anti-conversion” law prohibiting fraudulent or forcible conversion.

When the Christians protested, the officer in charge of the police station said officers were under political pressure and thus could do nothing for them.

India’s anti-conversion laws — currently in nine states, with more considering adoption — are often used by nationalists to justify harassment and assault of Christians.

Local police often overlook violence perpetrated against Christians due to false accusations of forced conversion.

John Prabhudoss, chairman of the Federation of Indian American Christian Organizations of North America, previously told The Christian Post that the victory of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party in 2014 and subsequent reelection in 2019 “brought about a sense of confidence among the Hindu radical party cadre that now they can attack Christians and other religious minorities with impunity and they do not have to worry about the law enforcement.”

A pastor who has planted churches in India for several decades told CP that the situation for believers is “steadily worsening” in the country.

“The situation in India is very sensitive right now,” he said, speaking under the condition of anonymity. “Many believers in India are facing very serious situations. [The government is] clamping down on the churches and passing new laws to incite hatred and anger against Christians. They feel threatened by us, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to be a Christian there.”

Still, the pastor emphasized that despite persecution, “the Body of Christ in India is strong” and “will remain faithful, even in the face of opposition.”

India is ranked 10th on Open Doors USA’s World Watch List of 50 countries where it is most difficult to be a believer. The organization notes that Hindu extremists believe that all Indians should be Hindus and that the country should be rid of Christianity and Islam.

As a result, Christians accused of following a “foreign faith” are often physically attacked and sometimes killed, as well as under constant pressure from their family and community.
