SAN ANTONIO - A judge has sentenced John Xavier Garcia to life in prison without the possibility of parole after a jury found him guilty of continuously sexually abusing a child.

In a release issued March 30, 2026, the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office said Garcia was sentenced by Judge Kristina Escalona, who is presiding in the 186th District Court. The sentencing follows a January 2026 jury verdict.

Garcia also received a 20-year sentence for indecency with a child by contact, according to the release.

Prosecutors said the abuse began when the victim was about 9 years old and continued until she was about 11, when she made an outcry.

“This sentence reflects the seriousness of these crimes and the lasting impact they have on victims,” District Attorney Joe Gonzales said. “We commend the courage it takes to come forward, and our office remains committed to protecting children and holding offenders fully accountable."

The district attorney’s office said evidence presented at trial included the victim’s testimony, extensive counseling records, and messages sent by Garcia that prosecutors said showed “ongoing manipulation up to the time of his arrest.”

John Xavier Garcia will remain in the custody of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for the remainder of his life.
