Mayo Clinic Fires Doctor Advocating Female Genital Mutilation

Dr. Hatem Elhagaly, a Muslim pediatrician,  was dismissed from the top-notch clinic for promoting a practice that is illegal in America but, in his words, "honors Islam."

Only in the Muslim mind could the brutal mutilation of little girls be considered a source of honor. How utterly evil!

The barbaric practice has no health benefits to women. On the contrary, in addition to the emotional and psychological trauma of the procedure, mutilation of female genitals can cause severe bleeding, urinary problems, painful mentruation, cysts, complication in childbirth, sterility and death.

In a statement released announcing Elhagaly's dismissal, the Mayo Clinic wrote, "Female circumcision in children, referred to as female genital mutilation in U.S. legal statutes, is a felony-level child abuse crime. Mayo Clinic strongly opposes the procedure and it has never been performed at any Mayo Clinic facility."

An internet blog devoted to cutting-edge medical practices and treatments says that Elhagaly "justifies this position by referring repeatedly to the words of classical Islamic scholars from the four schools of mainstream Sunni Islamic thought, all of which attest to FGM's legitimacy under Islam. He also refers to the words of the Prophet Muhammad himself, who reportedly counselled people in his day on how to perform FGM in a way that would be 'more beautiful to behold and better for [the woman's] husband.' "

WASHINGTON -- The Islamic terror group ISIS is leaving a trail of destruction across large parts of Syria and Iraq with a specific target in their crosshairs.

Hundreds of thousands of Christians have been displaced from their homes and countless others have been murdered or enslaved by the jihadist army, with no end in sight.

Sister Hatune Dogan has been on the ground and witnessed the devastation of these ancient Christian communities. She's listened to survivors tell how Christians and Yazidi women are being sold into sex slavery.

"They choose the most beautiful one, even if they have a small child, and they sell these women, these ladies to each other. They don't sell to another religion -- only Sunni Muslim," Dogan said.

"There have been 12,000 kidnapped at the hands of ISIS - Yazidi alone. What is going on there, what I was hearing, is the highest barbarism on earth in the history until today," she added.

Her foundation helps the poor and persecuted in 35 countries, providing them with food, clothing, medicine and shelter.

She travels constantly with a special focus in the Muslim world.

"I'm not coming here for a holiday. I'm coming here to bring a voice to the voiceless so that the world can hear their voice. They don't have a voice. I am the channel for them. That is my mission," Dogan declared.

Sister Dogan is no stranger to Islamic persecution. As a young girl, threats from local Muslims forced her family to leave their home in Turkey.

They relocated to Germany, where she operates her foundation and sounds the alarm about the gathering Islamic storm.

"The mission of (Abu Bakr) Baghdadi, of ISIS, is to convert the world completely to the Islamic religion and bring them to Dar Al Salaam, as they call it. And Islam is not peace, please. Whoever says ISIS has no connection to Islam or something like this is, he's a liar. ISIS is Islam; Islam is ISIS," Dogan explained.

She's disappointed by what she calls a weak reaction from the West.

"We know that in Islam, there is no democracy. Islam and democracy are opposite, like black and white. And I hope America will understand. America today has the power that they can stop this disaster on the earth, with other Western countries," she argued.

As for Sister Dogan, she says she'll keep calling attention to the plight of followers of Jesus around the world whether the West wants to hear it or not.

I'm more worried today than I was a year ago, says Mona Sahlin.

Mona Sahlin's vision of Sweden has changed due to her mandate as the coordinator against violent extremism, she says in a stunning interview with the Swedish newspaper Expressen, where she admits that the Swedish immigration policy in general has failed.

- When I talk to a preschool teacher who says that kids at her kindergarten are playing ISIS outside, or when I hear about young people who ask: "Are you Sunni or Shia?", then it has gone much further than I thought, she says.

Why has this trend been able to go under the radar?

- A large part of the authorities in Sweden have abdicated our suburbs. And we are also afraid to touch issues regarding religion. The debate stops because we are too ignorant and too cowardly to challenge the extreme interpretation of a religion that ISIS is based upon, and which also exists in our country.

How do you think that the Muslim community has handled the rejection of IS?

- Many disagree (with IS), but too few are engaged in the public debate. If it is a distorted view of Islam that allows young guys to travel to join IS, then the religious leaders must say so. They will hardly listen to me who wear sneakers and jeans.

You've had a long political career. Are you self-critical, - and for the Social Democrats - over how it has become?

- When it comes to the honor culture, I curse myself, the social democratic movement and society in general. It was an example of how we consciously chickened out of a discussion because we were afraid of being associated with the wrong debaters. And therefore we failed the vulnerable girls.

- Integration has also been a failure. There, the Socialist Party gave a picture of us, where we were so much more successful and skilled at countering both class inequalities and gender differences than we actually were. And it has hurt the integration debate very much.

Are you an optimist or a pessimist about the future?

- I do not know. I'm more worried today than I was a year ago. On the other hand, I see more people doing fantastic work. If I'll be honest, I'm very ambivalent. But I'm a realist when I say that I believe we can and will do more.

Some will argue that Sweden's rape statistics have more to do with how they define rape and how charges are laid by police. However, Sweden's rape-rate is more than twice the nearest industrialized country and 40 times that of Canada.

Good to see one Swedish politician waking up - just a few more hundred to go.
