On Being a Girl in Islam > Three Muslim men Arrested for the Abduction and Rape of a Minor Hindu Girl

India is predominantly Hindu with a large minority of Muslims. But wherever Muslims are, they think it is Islam.

India: Three Muslim men Arrested for Abducting and Raping Minor Hindu Girl on Janmashtami, Birthday of Krishna

Young Hindu girls have faced violence and exploitation at the hands of predatory Muslims across the Indian subcontinent for centuries. Sadly, despite political independence and successive changes in government, this brutality has not ended in modern India. Even under governments that claim to champion Hindu interests, cases of Muslim men committing acts of violence against minor Hindu girls continue to emerge with disturbing frequency.

In a similar case reported from Hindu-heartland Uttar Pradesh, Police have arrested three Muslim men for abducting and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old Hindu girl on her way to a temple during Janmashtami celebrations in Muzaffarnagar. The police arrested the alleged main accused, Md Sameer, shortly after the incident, and later apprehended his alleged associates, Md Waleen and Md Salman, following an encounter in the Reta Nangla forest area.

The incident took place in the Chhapar police station area on the night of September 4, when Hindus were observing Janmashtami, which marks the birth of the Hindu deity Krishna. Visiting temples, offering prayers, and participating in late-evening or nighttime celebrations are common practices during Janmashtami. According to the complaint and police account, the girl had left her home to visit a temple in the evening.

The girl’s family became concerned when she did not return home on time. They searched for her and found her in a distressed condition inside the home of the main accused, who had raped her after forcefully bringing her to his residence with the help of two others. She later told her family what had happened, recounting how the trio abducted her and how Sameer sexually assaulted her.

The family then took her to the police station and submitted a written complaint. According to the allegations recorded in reports, Sameer took her to a room in his house and sexually assaulted her. Authorities have yet to establish whether Sameer knew the victim beforehand or planned the crime.

Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act. While all three accused had fled by the time police initiated action, officers apprehended Sameer on September 4 and continued the search for Waleen and Salman. Police subsequently formed teams to trace them for the next two days. On September 6, police received information that Waleen and Salman were hiding in the forested area near Reta Nangla village under the Chhapaar police station jurisdiction.

A police team reached the area and began searching for the two suspects. According to the police account, officers ordered the men to surrender, but the suspects opened fire at the team. The police then returned fire, describing the action as retaliatory firing carried out in self-defense. Both Waleen and Salman suffered bullet injuries to their legs before police apprehended them.

Police subsequently took Waleen and Salman to hospital for treatment. Officers also claimed to have recovered two illegal .315-bore country-made pistols, two live cartridges and two spent cartridges from the accused. The reported recovery of the weapons and the circumstances of the exchange of fire will form part of the ongoing investigation.

With the arrests of Waleen and Salman, police have now taken all three accused named in the case into custody. Investigators are examining the statements of the girl and her family, medical evidence and other material to establish the precise circumstances of the alleged abduction and assault and to determine the individual role of each accused.

The case has drawn considerable attention because the alleged assault occurred during Janmashtami celebrations while the Hindu minor was abducted by the Muslim men on her way to a temple. The accused remain entitled to due process, and a court will ultimately determine their criminal liability. Later, Uttar Pradesh minister Kapil Dev Agarwal visited the girl’s family and assured them that the authorities would take strict action against those responsible and spare no one found guilty.
