The investigation, conducted by the Police and coordinated by the Milanese Public Prosecutor’s Office, arose from the complaint of a woman who reported that she had been the victim of sexual violence by a stranger who had accosted her in the city center and offered her assistance and hospitality in its makeshift bed.

Both the alleged perpetrator, regularly in Italy, and the victim are homeless. The woman needed to find shelter and he, after gaining her trust, had taken her to a tent in the gardens of Piazza Carbonari.

Here, taking advantage of her fragile condition, on the night between 28 and 29 April he forced her to undergo sexual acts.

The investigations were immediately launched by the specialized section against sexual offenses of the Milan Flying Squad which carried out inspections on the scene of the crime and in the vicinity, finding elements which allowed, in a short time, to identify a person fully compatible with the description provided by the victim. The policemen then carried out other investigations, also with the contribution of a witness and the same woman who recognized the alleged perpetrator in the 32-year-old Somali citizen, with no fixed abode who had previously been in Piedmont and for a few weeks in Milan….

The Kerala Story screening gets abruptly cancelled in UK

 Here’s what happened

Not only in India, but The Kerala Story is creating quite a buzz internationally as well. The movie was released in the UK on May 12, however before the first show, it was pulled down from the screens.

The screening was cancelled throughout the country after a delay in the classification from the British Board of Film Classification.

People from the Indian diaspora were left furious after all the screenings were cancelled and tickets were refunded. Shocked by the sudden cancellation, some netizens were quick to share the news on Twitter….

Cineworld’s tweet reads, ”Hi, we are sorry that the upcoming performances of The Kerala Story have been cancelled. This is due to the film not receiving an age rating in time for the scheduled release date, all affected customers will be contacted and refunded. Apologies for any disappointment caused.”

Later, BBFC also issued a statement, saying that the movie is still going through its classification process.

The tweet reads: ”The Kerala Story is still going through our classification process. Once the film has received a BBFC age rating and content advice, it will be available to be screened in UK cinemas.

The Kerala Story is a box office hit. (It's sold out in Toronto). It tells the story of a group of Christian and Hindu college girls from Kerala who were converted to Islam by coercion (aka “love jihad”), recruited for jihad, and sent off to Iraq and Syria to become Islamic State jihadists. 

It’s causing a big stir, particularly in India. Since the film does considerable damage to the propaganda that casts Muslims as victims while ignoring the Islamic persecution of minorities in India and in neighboring Pakistan — where each year, 1,000 Hindu and Christian girls are forcibly converted to Islam — it is being banned in some locations in India. And now The Kerala Story has also been banned in the UK, at least temporarily, “after a delay in the classification from the British Board of Film Classification.” Some are accusing the BBFC of censorship. Time will tell.

Where did this apparent convert to Islam get the idea that he had the “right” to rape anyone?

The Qur’an teaches that Infidel women can be lawfully taken for sexual use (cf. its allowance for a man to take “captives of the right hand,” 4:3, 4:24, 23:1-6, 33:50, 70:30). The Qur’an says: “O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.” (33:59) The implication there is that if women do not cover themselves adequately with their outer garments, they may be abused, and that such abuse would be justified.

Also, why did he threaten to cut their throats?

“When you meet the unbelievers, strike necks…” (Qur’an 47:4)

This Thursday, in Montbéliard, a Dijonnais was sentenced to three years in prison for repeated death threats, crime and apology for an act of terrorism. This practitioner of a radical Islam is stuck S because of his dangerousness. The victims, a young resident of Étupes and her family, have been living in terror for a year.

On April 18, 2022, Fabio Califano, a 25-year-old from Dijon, came to ask for the hand of a resident of Étupes. He brought her a traditional garment from Turkey (“on a pleasure trip”) as well as other gifts that all women dream of, a packet of flour, incense, spices.

“I was not there. If the cops hadn’t arrested him, what would have happened?,” asks the victim’s father. Because, the previous night, the man had threatened, on the phone, the young girl (17 years old) and her family: “I am going to burn you all, I am going to cut your throats. You and your mother, I will rape you because I have the right to do so.”

On the witness stand, the stocky defendant with a full beard asserted that he had knocked on the door with the best of intentions: “I wanted to apologize for my behavior.” However, this was not the suspect’s first outburst. When he returned from a trip a few days earlier, the follower of a radical (“Salafist”) Islam had sent a frightening message to the young woman with whom he had been chatting on Facebook for three weeks. What was the reasoning? She refused – even then – to marry him: “Soon we will cut your throats and play football with your heads.” The text was accompanied by a video showing a beheading scene….

The teenager’s father is angry and devastated: “Islam is not what I have been told for two hours. The religion stands for peace, tolerance and respect…We have been living in fear for a year.”

Fabio Califano, who was acquitted on this point, was given three years in prison and five years of social work (obligation to treat, work and prohibit contact with the victim and stay in the department of Doubs). He is now registered as S (suivi des personnes radicalisées).

Yazidi Women Who Escaped ISIS Now Facing Threats, Harassment in Canada

Calls and texts are 'opening an old wound' for the refugees already dealing with intense trauma, says reverend

Women and girls who survived rape and abuse at the hands of ISIS in Iraq are now reportedly being targeted with threats and harassment in Canada. 

Five Yazidi women and one 14-year-old girl north of Toronto have filed reports with the York Regional Police after receiving threatening phone calls and texts, reports W5, CTV's investigative program.

Yazidis are a religious minority who were targeted by ISIS fighters in Iraq in a brutal campaign described by the United Nations as genocide. More than 3,000 Yazidis were killed in northern Iraq in 2014, and nearly 7,000 women and girls were abducted and sexually abused.

The calls and messages include threats, graphic references to rape, disparaging remarks about Yazidi people, and photos of beheadings and armed extremists, according to W5. 

CBC has not seen the messages or heard recordings of the calls, but York Regional Police confirmed it is investigating telephone threats against six newcomers to Canada.

"They are all very brave coming forward to police and I can assure you that we take these allegations very seriously and they will be thoroughly investigated," Const. Andy Pattenden said in an emailed statement to CBC News.

Rev. Majed el-Shafie, founder of One Free World International, an organization that supports Yazidi refugees in Canada, spoke to As It Happens host Carol Off. Here is part of their conversation. 

As disturbing as this is, can you give us a sense of what kinds of threats these women received?

They received pictures of ISIS fighters beheading some innocent person. They received pictures of ISIS fighters holding machine guns. They received very horrible messages and voice messages, threatening them, insulting them. 

In one of the messages, the criminal was saying, you know: We will rape you as we did in Syria. We will rape you again in Canada. 

And these people who were calling, they were speaking and writing Arabic?

They were speaking in Arabic and writing in Arabic. I heard some of the messages. ... I spoke to one of these criminals.

I'm just curious what you're referring to when you say that you spoke with one of them. What happened?

He called one of the survivors and they immediately, the survivors, put me on the speaker and contact me by [another] phone.

He could hear me through the speaker and I immediately confronted him. I immediately asked him if he were ISIS or not. I told him: "It doesn't matter what you do, you will never win this battle."

Immediately when he heard my voice, he ran away and he just closed the phone.

And have you told the police that you actually had a conversation with one of these men?

We informed the authorities. We've been in very close range with authorities.

They are a doing great job. They're trying their best to answer two questions, really: Who is making these calls and from where? And who leaked [the women's contact] information?

Have the calls ceased since you since you intervened?

No. Some of the survivors, we had to change their phone numbers because they couldn't take it.

And as of this coming Sunday, we are just starting an emergency psychology sessions for the survivors that received the calls in order just to ensure their recovery, mental health-wise.

Remind people what these women went through before they came to Canada.

It is the most horrible genocide that you can ever imagine in our modern history.

From losing the family members — fathers, sons, daughters being killed in front of them — all the way to being captured by ISIS, used as sex slaves ... raped, gang-raped, sold in some cases 15, 20 times in a very short period of time, tortured, and basically even some of their family members [are] still in the hands of ISIS.

So they come here to Canada hoping for a new life, for healing from the trauma, and now these calls, obviously, is like opening an old wound and putting salt and lemon on it.

Do they have enough support? I know many of them lost family members, or they were taken from them. Do these women have a circle of support here?

I don't think that the Canadian government is able of capable of understanding the trauma that they went through.

It's not only about the Canadian government — it's the Canadian people. I witnessed a Canadian bus driver that took them without taking money from their ticket, I witnessed a cab drivers take them for free, a grocery store will deliver them food for free. We have psychologists that are volunteering their time. We have one of the best lawyers ... helping them.

Canada is a solid country. It's a wonderful country. Their support's mainly coming from the Canadian people, but I wouldn't say from the Canadian government.

Controversial Cardiff Imam Implies Sex Slaves OK Under Islam

It's hard to believe the British government is impotent to stop this kind of preaching in Britain. There is only one way to stop the coming wave of violence that has already affected France and Germany, and that is to lock up or deport all Muslims who have been radicalized. This Imam has been radicalized and needs to be shut up.

A British Muslim preacher in Cardiff has stoking tensions with his radical sermons by saying it’s ok to take prisoners and sex slaves under Islam. The imam preaches at the same mosque that saw three young radicalized jihadists leave the UK for Syria.

Preaching to boys as young as 13, Ali Hammuda would deliver many of the messages associated with radical Islamic groups like Islamic State, including that “the day of judgment is close,” according to the Daily Mail.

Hammuda is officially known as an English Islamic Programmes officer. He still preaches at the Al-Manar mosque, two years after three of its young members traveled to Syria to fight for terrorist organizations.

A secret recording a Koran study group was made by undercover reporter Rizwan Syed, who sent a copy to the Daily Mail. The tape was part of an investigation into jihadism by the company Hardcash Productions. It was made in October 2014.

There are a lot of confusing messages delivered by Hammuda, but what mostly shocked the British public about his sermons, is his interpretation of Hadiths, particularly ones concerning to slavery.

In one example, he says one of the signs of doomsday would be when a mother gives birth to her master, who then treats her as a slave.

“One of the interpretations as to what this means is that towards the end of time there will be many wars like what we are seeing today, and because of these wars women will be taken as captives, as slaves, yeah, women will be taken as slaves,” he says.

“And then, er, her master has relations with her because this is permissible in Islam, it’s permissible to have relations with a woman who is your slave or your wife.”

But with your mother? If that doesn't tell you where Islam is from, nothing will.

What Hammuda apparently fails to mention is that slavery isn’t legal anymore – in Islam, never mind the UK, where he was brought up after leaving Palestine, while he also stated that music is a “tool of Satan.”

The undercover reporter Syed recalls seeing a number of extremist readings at the mosque, including Music Made Me Do It, which describes how music supposedly corrupts the individual.

Another book looks at punishments admissible under Islam, such as stoning, beatings, amputations and beheadings, which are also used by IS.

“I saw books preaching brutal violence, sexism, homophobia, aggressive physical jihad, dismemberment and capital punishment implemented by the state. It reinforces the idea that what these militant groups are doing, what IS is doing, is legitimised by history,” Syed said.

Although the mosque itself says it rejects radicalism, it has hosted a number of extremist religious speakers in the past, including Al-Qaeda ally and former leader of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, Muhammad Mustafa Al-Muqri.

However, speaking on Friday the controversial Cardiff preacher Hammuda said he had always condemned the tactics and ideology of “so-called Islamic State,” according to the Mail. He said he only spoke for himself and the mosque.

Meanwhile, the Home Office released new figures relating to the number of children saved from being taken to Syria by their parents as part of the anti-terrorism Contest strategy.

Approximately 50 minors were prevented from traveling this year, and more than 150 in 2015.

The Syrian army is unearthing a mass grave consisting of at least 40 corpses, many of them women and children, butchered by the Islamic State in the recently liberated ancient city of Palmyra.

The grave was discovered by engineers and “popular defense forces” in the Masakin al-Jahizia neighborhood in the city, which lies only 500 meters away from the ancient ruins, SANA reports.

Initially, the army has managed to pull 25 corpses out from the ground. Among those killed by IS were three children and five females. As the excavation proceeded, 15 more corpses were unearthed – all of them women and children.




Initial examination of the bodies revealed that some of the victims had been beheaded while other had been brutally tortured right before their death.

The army continues to excavate the mass grave, fearing that more bodies may be found.

In May of 2015, Islamic State militants killed at least 400 people in Syria's ancient city of Palmyra, mostly women and children, Syrian state television said Sunday, citing residents.

According to Reuters, opposition activists on social media claimed that hundreds of bodies were in the streets of the city.

"The terrorists have killed more than 400 people.. and mutilated their bodies, under the pretext that they cooperated with the government and did not follow orders," a Palmyra resident told Syria's state news agency.

State employees were among hundreds killed in the massacre. Among them was the head of nursing department at the hospital and all her family.


Landmines

In the meantime, engineering units continue their search for landmines and explosives as thousands had been hidden by the jihadists before they were driven out from the city with the help of the Russian forces working with the Syrian army.

Russian combat engineers arrived in Palmyra on Thursday with special robotic units to offer their expertise in detecting and dismantling mines in an area comprising over 180 hectares (445 acres) to save the UNESCO world heritage site, and help locals to return to safe existence.

“At least 3,000 explosive devices were installed in the city,” the sapper explained to RT. He said ISIS created an almost invisible interconnected network, partially hidden under hard paved roads, which could blow up the entire city.

A strategically important location, Palmyra had been seized by IS jihadists since May 2015. That month, ISIS reportedly slaughtered 400 people, mostly women and children. At the time, Reuters reported that a video posted by IS’ supporters showed the militants entering governmental buildings in search of Syrian soldiers. They were also seen pulling down pictures of Syrian President Bashar Assad and his father, Hafez Assad.

The brutal Paris massacre committed by the Islamic State (ISIS), claiming 130 lives, has shocked the West into confronting the threat that the extremist organization poses. But for the hundreds of thousands of civilians living in ISIS-controlled areas of Syria and Iraq, the terror that Paris experienced remains a daily reality.

Fatima, 20, and her cousins Ahmed, 16, and Isa, 19, (not their real names) couldn’t quite believe they had made it safely to the Greek Island of Lesbos last week. As the New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof and I shared a meal of pizza with them, they and their relatives kept giggling nervously until I asked them what was wrong. Fatima immediately turned serious, and explained that they had been pointing out to one another all of the “offenses” committed by passers-by that would have led to their beheading by the ISIS killers whose domain they had just fled: wearing tight clothes, watching music videos, sharing a meal with members of the opposite sex, drinking beer…the list went on and on.

“If I had been wearing this last week back home,” Fatima said, pointing to her slim jeans and other Western clothes, “my head would have come off.” She was not kidding.

Life under ISIS in Syria and Iraq is barely tolerable for those who are forced to endure its horrific and often arbitrary violence, and the group’s tight control makes it difficult to escape. The self-declared Islamic Caliphate is not filled with ecstatic followers, cheering on its beheadings and the destruction of Syria’s and Iraq’s heritage. Instead, many live in a state of constant terror, trapped in their worst nightmare.

Before the Syrian conflict, Fatima and Ahmed were ordinary teenagers, wearing Western clothes, listening to pop music, going to school, flirting, and trying to stay out of trouble with their parents. All of that ended when the shooting started and bombs began to rain down on their towns. Their schools shut down, and life became a daily struggle for survival. But their lives became even worse once ISIS took over control of their town.

“When the Islamic State came, they told us they were bringing us the true Islam,” Isa recalled, “But immediately, they started killing in the name of Islam. Really, they just came for the money and oil.”  Isa and Ahmed said that many of the ISIS fighters they saw were foreigners from Tunisia, Morocco, Libya, Sudan, Egypt, and Chechnya. Many others were French converts to Islam. Isa recited the long list of things ISIS outlawed: “Jeans are prohibited, smoking is prohibited, some foods are prohibited like pizza and mortadella because they come from the ‘land of the unbeliever;’ even sunflower seeds are prohibited!”

Ahmed continued the conversation: “Seeing the beheadings was the worst, and it was compulsory to go watch them. I had to go see them so many times, sometimes even every day. Our neighbor was beheaded by them because he had helped some Free Syrian Army soldiers escape. They found him and beheaded him.” I asked Ahmed, who fled just one week before, how recently he had witnessed an execution, which now happen mostly on Fridays, after the midday prayer. He said it was about two weeks before he fled: “I witnessed the execution of three brothers. They were accused of accidentally killing their sister. So after Friday prayer, they beheaded all three of them.”

Ahmed, just 16 years old, had close brushes with death himself. The first time, a few weeks ago, was when an informant accused him of blasphemy, saying he had overheard Ahmed calling a friend “son of God.” Ahmed was hauled to an ISIS-controlled mosque, where he was threatened with beheading until it became clear that someone else had uttered the offending words—in fact, an ISIS sympathizer, so the case was dismissed.

On another occasion, Ahmed was accused of skipping his prayers, and sentenced to twenty lashes, administered by a Saudi ISIS member using a horsewhip.

Not long afterward, Ahmed, who was working at a pharmacy, went to another pharmacy to see if it had a medicine his pharmacy did not have in stock. He asked an elderly woman who worked there for the medication.  ISIS detained him again, this time for speaking to someone of the opposite sex, and threatened with death. His uncles, fearing for his life, told him to stop going to work, and scrambled to find sufficient money to smuggle him and the other two young relatives out.

Fatima was not much luckier. “All of these ISIS restrictions, they make you hate yourself as a woman,” she said. “They make you wear all black and cover everything, and even tell you what shoes you can wear.” One day, as she was walking in the street with her sister and her sister’s baby, the ISIS religious police decided that the infant’s dress was too short and “un-Islamic.” They took the sisters and the infant to the ISIS court, and then turned their attention to Fatima’s abaya, which was deemed too form-fitting and revealing. Her family was ordered to pay a fine to bail her out. “I was only detained for a few hours, but I will never forget that fear,” she told me. “I was crying for days afterward.”

Why would anyone choose to live under such arbitrary terror and repression, you may be asking. But for many in ISIS-controlled territory, there is no choice. The Islamic State has made it very difficult for anyone to leave its self-declared Islamic Caliphate -- which it markets as a modern-day utopia -- for the Dar al-Kuffar, the lands of the unbelievers.

Until about five months ago, ISIS allowed people to leave the town in Syria that Fatima, Ahmed, and Isa fled. Those who left forfeited all of their property to ISIS, and risked the security of relatives who remained behind. But five months ago, ISIS prohibited anyone from leaving, at the same time insisting that all fighting-age males, who in their view include children, join the ranks of their jihadis.

Ahmed told me: “Now, everyone [male] who is 14 years or older has to do jihad, but we see even younger ones fighting, some as young as 12. Once it became compulsory to do jihad, we [males] didn’t leave the house. For the last month and a half, I have not left the house very much, except for Friday prayer which is compulsory, and the executions they take us to afterward.”

Escaping took an elaborate plan and the use of a costly smuggler. They claimed they were visiting relatives in an area close to the Turkish border, and were then smuggled into Turkey under cover of darkness. But the grasp of ISIS extends far: Fatima, Ahmed, and Isa made me promise not to use their picture, their real names, the name of their town, or any other identifying characteristics that may allow ISIS to punish their relatives. As Fatima explained, “They would execute my relatives just for me talking to you.”

The three all left many relatives behind when they fled. “Just put yourself in our place,” Fatima said, when I asked her what went through her head when she had to say goodbye to her mother and other relatives. “I said goodbye to them as if I was never going to see them again.” With the increased bombing campaign by France and Russia, her fears for her relatives are not just about ISIS. “Just yesterday, there were airstrikes on my neighbourhood, and I can’t even call my mom to find out if everyone is OK,” Fatima sadly added.

As the world decides how to confront ISIS, and how to cope with the influx of Syrian refugees fleeing the country, the countries involved need to be aware that hundreds of thousands of civilians remained trapped in ISIS-controlled areas against their will. Those undertaking attacks on ISIS areas need to keep those trapped civilians in mind, and take measures to avoid civilian deaths and further suffering. And they need to make sure that people who are fleeing ISIS terror can find safety and security in Europe and elsewhere, and don’t need to risk their lives as they try to find safety.

And while there is no excuse for what they did to Tina Römer Holtegaard, why did Holtegaard let her daughter bring home a boyfriend who was almost twice her age?

Lisa Borch was aged only 15 when in October last year she spent hours on YouTube watching footage of the savage decapitations of David Haines and Alan Henning.

Afterwards she and her radical Muslim boyfriend Bakhtiar Mohammed Abdulla, 29, took a long-bladed kitchen knife and stabbed her mother Tina Römer Holtegaard at least 20 times at the home they shared in rural Kvissel.

A court which sentenced Borch to nine years in jail heard how she became obsessed with militant Islam after falling in love with an unnamed Muslim man.

But he jilted her when he moved back to Sweden to be with his wife and children.

Nevertheless she found a new soulmate in Iraq-born Abdulla, whom she befriended after meeting at a refugee centre near her home.

Following the brutal murder, in which both Borch and Abdulla participated, the teenager called police claiming: ‘I heard my mother scream and I looked out the window and saw a white man running away. Please come here, there is blood everywhere.’

On arrival police found Mrs Holtegaard, whose husband was away on a short business trip at the time of her murder, covered in her own blood in bed.

Despite making the frantic phone call, the victim’s daughter was discovered sitting on a chair in the living room playing with her iPhone and watching videos on YouTube. When police asked where her mother was, Borch refused to leave her computer and simply pointed upstairs.

A later police examination of the computer showed that she had watched endless repeats of the beheadings of the two Britons, both of whom had gone to Syria on humanitarian missions.

‘She watched them the whole evening long,’ said prosecutors at her trial. When police first arrived at the house she didn’t leave the computer and merely pointed upstairs to indicate where her mother lay dead. It was this apparent disinterest which made her prime suspect in a matter of minutes.

The court heard that Borch’s twin sister had recently moved out of the family home because she couldn’t stand the constant arguing that went on between her mother and sister.

The court was told that Borch had teamed up with Abdulla after being dumped by her first lover. The two planned to flee together to Syria and fight for the ISIS cause.

Borch claimed at the trial that they were ‘just good friends’ but authorities believe they were lovers.

The rows with her mother intensified as she pressured her daughter to break off her relationship with him and ‘live the life of a normal teenager.’

Prosecutor Karina Skou told the court that the pair made a diabolical pact to kill her mother saying: ‘This murder was cold blooded, ice cold and committed in a bestial manner.’

Borch even showed her twin sister the knife she planned to use to kill their mother, but the comment was incorrectly written off a macabre joke.

In court Borch and Abdulla blamed one another for the killing of Mrs Holtegaard.

He claimed to have only arrived to ‘help Lisa’ after the teenager had already killed her mother. But Borch said Abdulla had actually been the knifeman.

The muddled version of events meant the court heard several stories about what actually happened.

Although Abdulla was no longer at the property when police arrived, investigators found his fingerprints in the victim’s bedroom.

Although it couldn’t be established who’d actually delivered the blows that killed Mrs Holtegaard, both of the accused were found guilty of murder.

Borch was sentenced to nine years in prison, the first of which will be spent in a youth offenders institute.

Abdulla received 13 years and will be expelled from Denmark when his sentence is up….
