The Taliban, like the rulers of the Islamic Republic of Iran, have only one tool in their box: terror. This is because terror is the only punishment the Qur’an recommends for those who “wage war against Allah and his messenger” (5:33). In both Iran and Afghanistan, those who run the regime and those who support it both assume that to oppose any decree of the regime is to oppose Islam and Allah himself, since all the regime’s policies are based on Islamic law.

Two people killed after Taliban fire on protesters in Herat Province

On June 9, at least two people, including a woman and a child, were killed and many others wounded after Taliban opened fire on protesters in Herat city of Herat Province, reports Amu TV. The violence erupted after residents took to the streets to protest the detention of women and girls accused of violating the Taliban’s dress code.

The demonstration began in Jebrail township, a predominantly Hazara area northwest of Herat city, where men and women gathered in support of women who had been detained by members of the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice. Taliban opened fire near an intersection known as Bahar-e Zendagi as protesters marched through the area….

As Robert Spencer explains in detail here, the Taliban are following Muhammad’s example. The Taliban devoutly follows what it views as the purest form of Islam — the teachings of the Qur’an and the example of Muhammad as recorded in the hadiths that Muslim scholars consider authentic.

The non-Muslim world claims to be horrified by the persecution of people on the basis of what they believe, the idea that murdering those who do not believe will gain one a place in paradise, child marriage, the rape of infidel women, wife beating, and more. Yet it denies that any of these have anything to do with Islam, which would come as a surprise to their practitioners.

Taliban formally recognises child marriage

The Taliban regime in Afghanistan has introduced a controversial new family law regulation governing marriages, divorce and child marriage, with one of the most debatable articles of the decree recognising the silence of a “virgin girl” as consent to marriage. However, the silence of a boy or a married woman cannot be taken to mean consent.

The law has drawn widespread criticism from international observers. The 31-article regulation, titled “Principles of Separation Between Spouses,” was approved by Taliban supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada and published in the regime’s official gazette in mid-May, reported Afghan media outlet Amu TV….

One of the most controversial provisions states that the silence of a “virgin girl” after reaching puberty may be interpreted as consent to marriage. The regulation then adds that the silence of a boy or a previously married woman, however, would not automatically count as consent.

The decree also addresses “khiyar al-bulugh” or the “option upon puberty”, a concept in Islamic jurisprudence under which a child married at a young age may seek annulment after reaching puberty. However, annulment requires the consent of the religious courts.

According to Article 5 of the regulation, if relatives other than a child’s father or grandfather arrange the marriage of a minor, the marriage can still be considered legally valid if the spouse is deemed socially compatible and the dowry appropriate. The child may later seek annulment, but only through a Taliban court order….

Taliban legalizes sick child marriages with special rules for ‘virgin girls’ in Afghanistan

The Taliban has formally legitimized child marriages under a twisted new family law decree that sets out rules for marriages involving minors — treating the girls as sellable property.

It also establishes specific guidelines governing “virgin girls,” reported Afghan outlet Amu TV.

Approved by Supreme Leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, the 31-article regulation — titled “Principles of Separation Between Spouses” — was published in the regime’s official gazette in mid-May.

In Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, girls can effectively be sold before they are even old enough to walk….

The price of a child bride reportedly ranges between $500 and $3,000, according to human rights groups.

Nearly one-third of Afghan girls are married before the age of 18, according to the charity Girls Not Brides….

The Taliban’s legal code reportedly does not prohibit sexual or psychological violence against women, reports British outlet GB News. Reports also state husbands are permitted to beat their wives, provided it does not leave obvious bodily harm.

“Child marriage is not marriage in any meaningful sense. A child cannot properly consent, and treating silence as consent is dangerous because it removes a girl’s voice completely,” political commentator Fahima Mahomed told the outlet.

“As a Muslim, I would also strongly reject the idea that this reflects Islam as a whole. The Qur’an itself speaks against compulsion and mistreatment of women, so the Taliban’s position should not be presented as ‘Islamic law’ in a broad sense.

“It is their political and extremist interpretation, enforced through power and fear.”
