New York state man charged in 2011 child sex abuse

A Port Crane, NY man who is currently in state prison was charged Wednesday with sexually abusing four children in 2011.

Michael Clark, 48, allegedly abused the children, who were each younger than 11 years old, while residing in the Town of Fenton, state police said Friday. On April 29 of this year, troopers received a child abuse report from Broome County Child Protective Services and initiated the investigation.

Clark was charged with felony counts of first-degree criminal sexual act and first-degree sexual abuse.

He was arraigned in Fenton Town Court and sent back to the Gowanda Correctional Facility, where he was already incarcerated on an unrelated charge.

A future court appearance in the sex abuse case is pending, police said.

Pennsylvania man convicted in child sex abuse case

(WHTM) – A former Lititz man has been convicted of sexually abusing a girl for several years, beginning when she was 4.

Chad Earl Frantz, 37, was convicted Wednesday on 10 charges, seven felonies including rape of a child.

According to court documents, the abuse started in 2003 and went on for six years while Frantz resided in Clay Township.

Frantz was committed to Lancaster County Prison on $1 million bail. He is expected to be sentenced in three months.

Alabama man jailed on child sex abuse charges

A 47-year-old Shelby County man is in jail, accused of sexually abusing a young child.

Carlos Enrique Palma was booked into the Shelby County Jail on Tuesday, according to court records made public today. Arrest warrants claim he "engaged in deviate sexual intercourse" with a child under the age of 12 for a period of eight years.

Palma, who lives in Chelsea, is charged with sodomy and two counts of sex abuse of a child less than 12. He remains jailed with bond set at $180,000.

Court records show prosecutors requested a high bond because of the seriousness of the charges and the fact that Palma is not a legal resident of the U.S.

HYDE PARK, NY - A Hyde Park man was arrested Friday after alleged sexual assault and sexual abuse of a child, according to police.

Hyde Park police charged Douglas L. Ogden, 68, with predatory sexual assault of a child and sex abuse of a child, both felonies, as well as endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Police were called to a Hyde Park residence to investigate a possible sexual assault. After a brief interview with the family, five children from the residence, ages seven to 15, were brought to the Hyde Park Police Department to continue the investigation with assistance from the Child Advocacy Center.

Following the interviews, Ogden was picked up by police, interviewed at the Town of Hyde Park Police Department and charged. He was arraigned in front of Judge Steinberg and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.


Ogden is due back in Hyde Park Justice Court on Dec. 3.

Ms Dutt said she had been abused by a "distant older relative" in her book titled "This Unquiet Land".

"Worse still, as a child unable to process the magnitude of what had happened - I was the one who felt grotesque and dirty," the book says.

Child sexual abuse is a taboo topic in India, and often covered up.

An extract of the book has been published on the website of the NDTV news channel, where Ms Dutt is a presenter.

Her revelations have won her praise, with many pointing out the importance of highlighting similar incidents.

Five Iraqi men have been arrested in connection with the sexual assault of a Colorado Springs woman, who told police she blacked out after being offered what she believed was lemonade, police said Monday.

The investigation began on July 22 when an officer was called on a reported sexual assault at an apartment on Woodside Lane, police said.

After finding a significant amount of blood throughout the apartment, the officer went to Memorial Hospital Central to interview the victim.

The woman told the officer that after returning home from working a night shift at about 1:30 a.m. July 21, she decided to take a walk and check her mailbox.

She heard a disturbance and saw two groups of men who were on the verge of fighting, police said. The woman stood between the groups, trying to calm them down.

After the dispute ended, the woman told police she was invited into the apartment of one of the men. She entered the apartment and met three other young men, all about 20 years old.

The men, "Began to share how difficult it was living in a foreign country, and the victim sympathized with them as she has lived in foreign countries herself and also has a son their age," police said.

"During their conversation, the victim was given what she believed was lemonade and had no recollection after that," police said.

A medical examination at the hospital revealed the woman had suffered significant internal injuries consistent with blunt force trauma and serious bodily injuries, police said.

Detectives conducted an extensive investigation, including the collection of evidence, the execution of search warrants and arrest warrants, photo line-ups and several interviews, police said.

The investigation resulted in the arrest of the following five men:

Sarmad Fadhi Mohammed was booked on investigation of sexual assault and being an accessory to a crime.
Jasim Mohammed Hassin Ramadon was booked on sexual assault and being an accessory to a crime.
Mustafa Sataar Al Feraji was booked on being an accessory to a crime.
Ali Mohammed Hasan Al Juboori was booked on being an accessory to a crime.
Yasir Jabbar Jasim was booked on being an accessory to a crime.

Police said all the men are Iraqi nationals who have obtained legal permanent resident status in the United State during the past 5 years. If convicted of felony sexual assault, the men could be deported.

Two reasons for posting this story: 

1. Why was no-one charged with assault causing bodily harm? 

2. This is the first example in the US, that I am aware of, where Muslims exercised their perceived right to do as they wish to a woman or girl in their power. This is a right given them by Mohammed and is seen to be practiced in the UK and Europe quite extensively.

The Catholic church knew it had child abuse “time bombs” ticking away in a number of Australian dioceses, an inquiry has heard.

A special issues committee meeting at the Australian Catholic Bishops conference in 1992 noted: “It was agreed that there are serious time bombs ticking away in a number of dioceses at the present time.”

That was the case in a number of dioceses, former Melbourne archdiocese vicar-general Bishop Peter Connors, who chaired the committee, told the child abuse royal commission.

It also included Melbourne’s Doveton parish, where a succession of paedophile priests were sent.

“There would certainly be other dioceses where that problem, of time bombs ticking away, existed,” Bishop Connors said.

“That would certainly be the case, I think particularly, in the diocese of Ballarat, the big time bomb was ticking away there.”

The meeting of special issues groups, set up to deal with allegations against priests, noted it was important the alleged offender be treated fairly.

No concern for victims

Bishop Connors agreed with Gail Furness SC, senior counsel assisting the commission, who said there was little, if any, concern about the victims.

The commission heard there was a culture in the Catholic church of keeping abuse allegations secret.

When confronted about an abuse allegation, pedophile priest Ronald Pickering told then Melbourne archbishop Frank Little in 1986 that he had an “open house” policy with children invited to the presbytery.

“He also advised that on occasions he was imprudent but that there were no improprieties about which any legal action could be taken and which could do harm to the church,” Little noted, according to a tendered document.

Furness said it appeared Pickering believed that as long as what was done was not in the public arena, by way of legal action, no harm could be done.

Connors said it was probably the way priests defended themselves but conceded it was the mindset of the church to keep child sex abuse allegations private.

“I would accept that was almost certainly the way that I was approaching those kind of accusations,” he said on Thursday.

Bishop Hilton Deakin, who was Melbourne vicar-general from 1987 to 1992, said the abuse had been covered up to protect the church and that protecting children was simply forgotten.

The suffering of children was not well understood in those days, but I am certain it was not completely forgotten by everyone with any authority in the church. Some people, indeed many people, chose to ignore the damage and suffering of the children - whether it was to protect the church or to protect their own careers.

Deakin said he was told by Little that he should inform him of any sexual misconduct complaints about priests but that the matter would not go any further.

“He said: ‘There’s one form of complaint. You tell me verbally, and do it at breakfast or dinner, and that’s the end of it; there’s no discussion, no analysis, no further’,” Deakin said.

However, Little, who held the position of Melbourne archbishop from 1974 to 1996, told Deakin that he kept secret files full of “letters of complaint from all sorts of people, from parents especially, from offended people, and he would want to know name and place, and I was not to ask any further questions”.

Deakin said he was deeply embarrassed and sorry for those who had been hurt and apologised for any action or negligence on his part.

“I think that one of the actions certainly that’s become apparent to me since this commission started was the extraordinary cover-up of information.”

Deakin said when he was an auxiliary bishop he spoke to the Apostolic Nuncio, the Pope’s representative in Australia, about a priest called Peter Searson.

“I was telling him about this priest, who was a most evil person, doing evil things to little children in a school and had been doing it for quite some time,” he said.

“I was hoping and praying that something would be done.”

He said the Apostolic Nuncio thanked him and walked away.

Apostolic Nuncio, indeed. What a disgrace to the name 'apostle'. A real apostle would have called Searson to explain himself, and if he lied, he would drop dead on the spot for lying to the Holy Spirit. This fellow appears to  have been completely unconcerned about the Holy Spirit and totally concerned with the Pope and the Holy See.

White House Secret Service Agent Indicted on Attempted Child Sex Abuse Charge

A former secret service agent has been indicted by a federal grand jury in for alleged attempted sexual exploitation of a teen girl.

Thirty-seven-year-old Lee Robert Moore is a Maryland resident who was assigned to a White House secret service detail when he was arrested last month.

The Delaware District U.S. Attorney says in a statement that Moore had profiles on various apps used for exchanging pictures and messages.

State police created a profile on one posing as a 14-year-old girl. Moore exchanged messages and pictures with the fake profile for two months, including some while he was at work. Some were sexually explicit.

Moore faces one count of trying to transfer obscene materials to a minor.

The case against him was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a national Department of Justice initiative to fight child sexual abuse.

Kudos to Project staff and the Dept of Justice. You may well have saved one, or many, children from being abused.

Rival Pediatric Hospitals Unite to Aid Sexual Abuse Victims

An unprecedented partnership between Philadelphia's two pediatric hospitals aims to ease the painful process sexually-abused children go through as investigators work to gather information about the crime.

In conjunction with the Philadelphia Department of Human Services and Philadelphia Children’s Alliance [PCA], the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children will staff a state-of-the-art medical suite for victims of sexual abuse at PCA's Juniata Park offices.

The suite was created to help PCA expand its continuum of services to victims of child sexual abuse in the city, and save families an extra trip to the hospital for an examination.

PCA is a nonprofit organization that helps child abuse victims and brings abusers to justice by bringing together police, social workers, prosecutors, medical professionals and victim advocates.

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new medical facility, located at 300 East Hunting Park Avenue, will be held Dec. 4.

Officials from all four organizations, along with representatives from the Philadelphia Police Department and the city’s District Attorney’s office, will be in attendance.

The nonprofit Children's Hospital of Philadelphia was founded in 1885 as the country's first hospital dedicated to the health care of children. St. Christopher's Hospital is owned at operated by Tenet Healthcare Corp. (NYSE: THC) of Dallas, Texas.

This is great - putting the patient first is the way it should be but all too often isn't. Proud of you guys. This should make life easier for a lot of victims.

Rising Number of Child Sex Abuse in Fiji 'Concerning'

Fiji's hospitals are seeing increasing cases of child sexual abuse and putting the cause down to broken homes and urbanisation.

Dr Reati Mataika is a paediatrician at the Colonial War Memorial hospital in Suva and also works with the Ministry of Health on child protection.

She says cases have spiked in the last three to four years, and there are increasing numbers of juvenile offenders, many of whom are suspected of being victims themselves in the past.

Dr Mataika says complicated family arrangements provide opportunities for offenders.

"These children are actually more vulnerable to getting abused because of the circumstances surrounding their safety, where they are, who looks after them. We're seeing that with the rural to urban drift happening here and also because of the family breakdown in our community."

Reati Mataika says most abuse happens in the home, by extended family members or non-relations such as step-fathers.

She is correct on every count, but I would add the availability of internet pornography as a contributing factor.

JOLIET, Illinois – Witnesses may be allowed to testify about their relationships with a Joliet woman who police said had sex with a 15-year-old boy.

But video recordings that allegedly show Margarita Hernandez having sex with two other underage boys will not be admissible to her trial for aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Judge Edward Burmila ruled Tuesday.

Will County assistant state's attorney John Connor said the encounters were recorded with surveillance cameras from the home Hernandez shared with her boyfriend, John Gabriel, in the 6900 block of Monmoth Drive.

Hernandez, 36, who was a Troy Township Democratic committeewoman, was arrested in October 2012 after Gabriel, 79, came under investigation by the FBI. Gabriel, a retired journalist for The Times Weekly and Weekly Reporter, was convicted in March on federal charges of manufacturing child pornography.

While Burmila ruled the video would prejudice Hernandez's right to a fair trial, he granted Connor's motion to "admit other acts" by the defendant.

One boy who had a "dating relationship" with Hernandez and two boys whose interactions with her demonstrate sexual "grooming behavior" could be called as witnesses, Connor said. The witnesses were all underage at the time, according to Connor.

According to court files, Gabriel recorded sexual activities of Hernandez and others, which he claimed was a religious ritual.

An email Gabriel sent a 17-year-old girl said if "participants had sex with troubled young boys then they were assisting in training the boys in better behavior, and to fight the devil," according to the U.S Attorney's Office. "In addition, according to these e-mails, each time a participant had sex with a troubled boy, a wealthy benefactor would purchase guide dogs for the blind and fund children’s wings for hospitals."

2 Former Children's Theatre Students Sue Theatre for Sex Abuse

It's been more than 30 years since child sex abuse allegations surfaced at the Children's Theatre Company in Minneapolis, leading to criminal charges against its revered director and founder, John Clark Donahue.

But now, two former students, who claim they were abused by adults at the institution, have come forward.

On Tuesday, a joint lawsuit was filed by Laura Adams and Doe 84 against the Children's Theatre and the two men they say abused them. Adams claims she was raped in 1983 by former actor/teacher Jason McLean, 61, who now owns the Loring Pasta Bar and Varsity Theater in Minneapolis. And Doe 84 claims he was sexually abused by Donahue in about 1977.

The lawsuit, similar to others filed against organizations (like the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis or the Boy Scouts of America), claims the Children's Theatre had a duty to protect the children but was negligent in its oversight of the men.

There were many child victims, Adams said Tuesday, and there was a culture that allowed the abuse to occur and that stopped people from speaking out 30 years ago.

"It's time to tell our stories," Adams said. "We -- there are a lot of us -- have held this secret for far too long."

In a prepared statement, Doe 84 said, "I've suffered greatly, not only at the hands of my abuser but also by an organization that didn't do enough to protect children who participated in Children's Theatre's plays and programs.

The Children's Theatre issued a response on its website Tuesday, signed by artistic director Peter Brosius and board chair Jeff von Gillern.

"While this development is unwelcome in the sense that it returns to the forefront events from a difficult chapter in our history, we stand with any victim of abuse in his or her desire to see justice done," the statement said. "The crimes and misconduct of Mr. Donahue and the allegations against Mr. McLean date back to the 1980s, but there is no time limit on our abhorrence of such actions. Any abuse of a child is a terrible act; it goes against everything we believe in as professionals and as human beings."

However, the statement said, theater leadership believes the allegations are "misdirected" and the theater was not negligent.

"We will advocate for ourselves and our point of view as this case proceeds, yet we will do so being ever mindful that people in pain are at the heart of this matter," the statement said.

This is the first time anyone has made a public claim against McLean.

McLean issued a statement Tuesday.

"Mr. McLean is very surprised that allegations made against him 31 years ago when he was an actor at the Children's Theater have been raised again in 2015," said the statement, which was sent by attorney Jon Hopeman of the Minneapolis-based firm Felhaber Larson. "These same allegations were made in 1984 and were investigated by the BCA and by the Children's Theater (sic) at that time. After the allegations were investigated in 1984, he resumed his work as an actor at the Children's Theater.

"No complaint of any kind has ever been brought against Mr. McLean," the statement continued. "Mr. McLean had no involvement in or knowledge of the activities for which John Donahue was convicted in 1984. Mr. McLean intends to defend against this lawsuit with all his might and to clear his name."

This is the first time Adams has levied an accusation against McLean, said attorney Jeff Anderson, who represents Doe 84 and Adams, in response to McLean's statement.

"It was brought up, but not by this particular survivor," Anderson said. "But there's more to be said about that: I think the survivor was pressured by some folks to recant."

A man who answered a number listed for Donahue, 77, said, "John doesn't speak with the press. I'll let him know that you called."

The sexual-abuse scandal in the 1980s was widely reported in local media and led to major changes in child-protection protocol at the theater.

Donahue pleaded guilty to three counts of criminal sexual conduct in 1984. He was sentenced to 10 months in the workhouse, with work release, and resigned from the Children's Theatre. Within a few years, he was rebuilding his career in the local theater circuit.

During his time at the helm, Donahue was heralded as a creative genius who guided the theater to national prominence.

But below the surface, he had created a culture at the theatre that was "perverse and promiscuous," Anderson said.

That culture is what led to the abuse of Adams, who claims she was raped at age 15 by McLean, and Doe 84, who claims he was abused at age 15 by Donahue.

The lawsuit claims that Donahue sexually abused at least 17 children from the 1960s to the 1980s and that McLean sexually abused at least three girls in the early 1980s.

Many of the alleged victims were disclosed during Donahue's criminal proceedings in 1984, Anderson said, though others have come forward to the attorney recently.

Adams said she met McLean in 1982 when they were cast opposite each other in a production of "Mr. Pickwick's Christmas."

She said McLean groomed her, coerced her and raped her. Adams looked older for her age, she said, and welcomed McLean's advances because boys her age weren't asking her out. But, she said, "I was a child."

"When Donahue was arrested, several people around me had been abused, but we weren't talking," Adams said. "Nobody was encouraging us to come forward."

She said she's been in touch with others and hopes they will come forward as well. "So all of the stories can be heard, because there are many of them."

Adams and Doe 84 filed their lawsuit under Minnesota's Child Victims Act, which suspended the statute of limitations and opened a window for lawsuits to be filed for child sex abuse, no matter how long ago it occurred. That window closes in May.

Minnesota, you need to leave that window wide open and completely remove the statute of limitations on child sex abuse. So many of us have no cognitive awareness of the fact that we were abused until 30 or more years later. Their rights need to supersede the rights of pedophiles and perverts.

A twisted paedophile blackmailed his victim into keeping silent by telling her he would kill himself if his crimes were ever discovered.

The traumatised schoolgirl’s family were horrified to learn Moses Pande, 23, had been secretly abusing their daughter for six months - and had even attempted to rape her.

Following his arrest after the girl found the courage to speak out, Pande said ‘I knew it was wrong - I wanted to stop but couldn’t - and I couldn’t talk to anyone about it’.

I am not without sympathy for this young man. God only knows what he endured in Uganda and how much it messed up his psyche. 

The fact that he had no-one to turn to is most unfortunate. His abuse could have been stopped long before the girl was horribly traumatized and he was sentenced to 8 years and deportation. In Germany, there is a campaign where they give pedophiles or potential pedophiles a number to call to get help. Had the UK had such a program, Pande might have gotten the help he needed, when he needed it.

Pande, formerly of Wythenshawe, has now been jailed for eight years after admitting six child sex offences part-way through his Manchester Crown Court trial.

Sara Haque, prosecuting, said: “When the matters came to light and there were discussions between the victim and her mother she was asked why she had kept quiet in relation to what occurred. She said that the defendant, on numerous occasions, had threatened to kill himself if these matters came out. She felt that she didn’t want to have the responsibility of somebody taking their own life because of her.”

How heinous; using a girl's virtue (empathy) to rob her of her innocence!

Bernadette Baxter, defending, said Pande, who came to Britain at the age of 18, was ‘emotionally damaged’ after a troubled childhood in Uganda.

“He has already had a visit from immigration authorities and accepts he will be deported back to Uganda, where his family and friends know of his convictions. One can only imagine the level of social opprobrium there is that culture for this sort of offending.”

Sentencing, Judge David Stockdale QC said that Pande had subjected the victim to ‘serious sexual abuse’, adding: “The traumatic effect can’t be underestimated - abuse of this kind affects its victims for life.”

The judge described the threats Pande used to silence the victim were an aggravating feature as he jailed Pande, before paying tribute to the ‘forbearance’ of the girl and her family.

Detective Constable Joanna Gordon, of GMP’s Child Protection Unit said: “The victim was terrified and I commend her bravery in speaking to us about the abuse she suffered at the hands of Pande.

“A young girl has been robbed of her childhood and has had to go through the trauma of giving evidence, but she has been incredibly brave and helped to bring Pande to justice. I hope that now he is behind bars, she can start to rebuild her life.”

Let's hope and pray for this girl, too. Unfortunately, no age was given for the girl, but she undoubtedly will need much counselling and prayer.
