JIM WELLS COUNTY, Texas — Friday October 30, 2020, Jim Wells County Sheriff's arrested 40-year-old Mauricio J. Ruiz, for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.

According to the Sheriff’s office Ruiz’s charge comes from an incident that occurred earlier that day.

Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Investigators are currently investigating this case and have added an additional charge of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child. 

Investigators say they expect additional charges will be added as the case continues to be investigated.

WESTVIEW, Ky. (WYMT) - One man was arrested Wednesday on child sexual abuse material charges.

33-year-old James Richard was found sharing sexual exploitation photos of a child online during an undercover Internet Crimes Against Children investigation.

Investigators got a search warrant for Richard’s home and are currently still investigating the equipment used.

Richard is now facing one to five years in prison.

He was taken to the Breckinridge County Detention Center and was charged with one count of sending material portraying the sexual performance of a minor and three counts of possession of the material.

Child reports years of sex abuse by old San Angelo man to school officials

SAN ANGELO — A San Angelo man was arrested Tuesday after a child, 12, reported multiple sexual assaults over a three-year period, according to an arrest affidavit.

On Oct. 19, 2020, a child made an outcry and written statement of sexual abuse to school educators. The outcry included inappropriate touching, which began in 2017, records state.

The child, during an interview at the San Antonio Child Advocacy Center on Oct. 29, told investigators the assaults happed in "Grape Creek," later identified as a San Angelo address. Their father would leave the child and a sibling with the man during summer visitations while he went to work, according to the affidavit.

The first assault occurred when the child was around 7 or 8 years old. He touched the child inappropriately and told them "not to tell anyone," according to the affidavit.

The child's father told officers he took the children there several times a week while he went to work between June 15-July 27. The child also reported one sexual assault, according to the affidavit.

Augustin Dominguez Tapia, 75, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of continuous sexual abuse on a child younger than 14 years old. He remained in the Tom Green County Detention Center in lieu of a $75,000 bond as of 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to online jail records.

This charge is a first-degree felony punishable by 5-99 years in jail and a fine not to exceed $10,000.

Lancaster, Oh man pleads guilty to attempting to sexually coerce a minor

COLUMBUS - A prior sex offender currently on parole supervision pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court on Nov. 4 to a child exploitation crime punishable by at least 10 years and up to life in prison.

Larry Richard Dickerson, 56, of Lancaster, attempted to coerce a minor to engage in unlawful sexual activity.

According to court documents, in May 2020, officers with the Franklin County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force were conducting undercover online chats to identify individuals who were attempting to solicit and engage in illegal sexual activity with minors.

An officer posing as a juvenile on a social media application received a message from Dickerson and the two became in regular contact. Dickerson requested nude photos of the purported teenager. In one instance, he asked her to send a shirtless picture with the name “Rick” written across her chest so that he could be sure she was not a “cop.”

In a phone call with the undercover officer, Dickerson asked numerous questions about the supposed 15-year-old’s sexual history and preferences. The defendant asked the undercover officer to describe what her pubic region looked like. The two made a plan to meet to engage in illicit sexual conduct.

Dickerson and the officer decided to meet first in public before going somewhere private to engage in sex. Law enforcement observed Dickerson arrive at the designated meeting place and he was subsequently arrested.

Dickerson has two prior child sex offense convictions. In 2002, he was sentenced to 21 months in prison in the District of South Carolina on a child pornography charge. In 2018, he was convicted in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas with three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, based on his communications with a 13-year-old girl via MeetMe, and his subsequent meeting with a sexual abuse of the child.

David M. Morrison. Assistant United States Attorney Heather A. Hill and Special Assistant United States Attorney Roger Dinh are representing the United States in this case.

OSHKOSH – A Sauk County man faces federal charges as part of an FBI operation after police say he traveled to Oshkosh to have sex with who he thought was a teenage girl.

Winnebago County sheriff's deputies arrested Zachary C. Wood, 45, of Merrimac, on Oct. 15 after he made plans online to travel from Merrimac to Oshkosh to meet who he thought was a 14-year-old girl for sex, the FBI announced Thursday. When he arrived, police arrested him.

Wood faces federal charges of distributing child pornography and using a computer to entice a minor into engaging in sexual activity, according to the FBI. 

“Our focus is and always will be the welfare of our children," Winnebago County Sheriff John Matz said in a statement. "We will do our part holding those accountable who exploit and harm our children.”

Authorities arrested Wood as part of the FBI's Operation Kick Boxer. The operation is an ongoing, nationwide collaboration among federal, state and local law enforcement to "identify and arrest distributors and manufactures of child sexual abuse materials and to recover child victims of sexual abuse," according to the FBI. 

Guilty Plea In Orange Co., NY Child Sex Abuse Case

HIGHLAND MILLS, NY — A guilty plea in a child sex abuse case was entered in Orange County Court by a former Highland Mills man.

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler said Edwin Rodriguez, 66, formerly of Highland Mills, pleaded guilty Wednesday to first-degree attempted course of sexual conduct against a child.

Prosecutors said the charge stemmed from Rodriguez's repeated acts of sexual conduct committed against a child who was less than 13 years old at the time of the abuse.

He faces up to 12 years in prison, followed by 10 years of post-release supervision, when he is sentenced Jan. 20.

Rodriguez's plea satisfied a six-count indictment, charging him with various acts of sexual conduct committed in the spring and summer of 2014. Prosecutors said that the offenses against the child involved two or more acts of sexual conduct, at least one of which was a rape.

Hoovler said sex crimes committed against children are despicable.

"I have made the prosecution of all sex offenses, especially those committed against children, a priority in my office," he said. "As a result of this plea, the victim of this defendant's offenses can receive some measure of closure and the defendant will receive the receive the punishment that he deserves."

Rape of a child under 12 deserves more than 12 years on its own. I'm not convinced this is the punishment he deserves.

Suspect turns himself in on child sexual abuse allegations in Ogden, Ut

OGDEN — As police were investigating a report of child sexual abuse, a man turned himself in Wednesday at the Weber County Sheriff's Office.

An Ogden police officer said in an arrest affidavit that he was assigned Tuesday to follow up on allegations that a girl younger than 13 was sexually abused.

He said the girl disclosed during an interview at the Children's Justice Center that a man had sexually abused her.

On Wednesday, the man identified in the child interview, Jory G. Blonquist, 35, arrived at the Sheriff's Office. Blonquist had a position of trust with the girl.

The Ogden investigator met Blonquist there and interviewed him after he waived his Miranda rights.

The arrest affidavit said Blonquist completed a written confession, the details matching those reported by the victim.

The man told officers he similarly abused another young girl over a four-year period at an earlier time.

The officer said Blonquist told him "he needs help, knows he is sick and does not want to hurt anyone else."

Wow! Good for him. There is hope for this guy.

Blonquist was arrested and held without bail on suspicion of two counts of sodomy on a child and two counts of sexual abuse of a child, all first-degree felonies; and a class A misdemeanor charge of lewdness involving a child.

Formal charges had not been filed by Thursday afternoon.

Mexican man, convicted San Angelo child sex offender,

caught trying to cross border

SAN ANGELO — A Mexican national convicted of sexually assaulting a child in San Angelo, has been arrested Tuesday after attempting to cross the Texas-Mexico border, according to a U.S. Border Patrol news release.

On Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020, Border Patrol agents detained Guillermo Ramirez-Ponce, 51, "shortly after he illegally entered the United States," according to the release issued Thursday.

During processing, agents discovered a 2002 conviction for aggravated sexual assault of a child in San Angelo. Ramirez-Ponce was sentenced to 30 years in jail at the time and removed from the U.S. in 2017, according to the release.

"Dangerous criminals continue their attempts to illegally enter the United States," said Austin L. Skero II, Del Rio Sector chief patrol agent. "I am proud of our agents who are the front line of defense against these violent felons and work tirelessly to see them prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

Border Patrol arrested Ramirez-Ponce on suspicion of re-entry after deportation. Due to his prior conviction, he could be sentenced up to 20 years in jail, according to the release.

Federal child sex case: Cortland, NY man gets 45 years,

The federal child sexual exploitation case against a city woman continues to progress, while her lover was sentenced Tuesday to 45 years in federal prison for his part in the abuse of their two-year-old relative, according to federal officials.

Sarah R. Gates’ case is pending in US Court where she is charged with sexual exploitation of a child, according to the US Attorney’s Office. Gates is not convicted and there is no date scheduled for a guilty plea or sentencing, stated a US Court Clerk this morning.

In a sworn statement to city police, Gates claimed her paramour, Christopher M. Perry, instigated the abuse. Perry was sentenced Tuesday to 45 years in prison after he was convicted of sexually assaulting the toddler multiple times in 2017 and photographing the assaults to create child pornography, according to the US Attorney’s Office. As part of his guilty plea, Perry admitted he conspired and acted with Gates in the attacks, the office notes.

Federal Judge Thomas J. McAvoy also sentenced Perry to 15 years of supervised release after he leaves prison, which is not scheduled to happen until 2065. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.

City police Lt. Michael Strangeway said Wednesday that he was gratified Perry received such a long sentence, but could never be satisfied that any sentence would ever be enough for the convicted abuser.

“What they did to that child — I can’t think of a word strong enough to describe how despicable and sick these people were,” Strangeway said. “I can’t think of a sentence long enough for what they did, but 45 years is a good start.”

Perry first came to the attention of police when the State Police Computer Crimes Unit identified him as part of an investigation into the dissemination of child pornography, said Strangeway at the time of the couple’s April 2019 arrest. City police helped state police search Perry and a Hyatt Street residence using a search warrant, Strangeway said.

During the search, police found photographs and videos of Perry and Gates having oral sex with the child and the child being raped, he said. Other child pornography depicting unknown children was also discovered, Strangeway said.

Perry was prosecuted as part of a federal, state and local partnership called “Project Safe Childhood,” according to the US Attorney’s Office.

“One of the chief mandates of the PROTECT ACT and the National Strategy is to expand our efforts to coordinate and cooperate with federal, tribal, state, local, and international organizations and agencies in the fight to prevent and interdict in the sexual exploitation of children,” according to the Justice Department, referring to the 2008 law. “Working closely with each other, we will pool our intelligence and resources to ensure that those offenders who seek to entice and compromise our children are brought to justice.”

March trial set for Kentucky sexual abuse case

A Clark County man charged with sexually abusing a child in 2019 is now facing a trial in March.

Terrell Leo Cain-Byington, 56, of Treehaven Drive, was arrested in February 2019 for first-degree sexual abuse, tampering with physical evidence and prohibited use of an electronic communication system to procure a minor for sex.

Clark Circuit Judge Jean Chenault Logue said she was looking at January trial dates, but recent COVID numbers and guidance from the Kentucky Supreme Court made March more likely.

Cain-Byington’s attorney, Alex Rowady, said he thought the trial would take two to three days.

Cain-Byington was arrested on a warrant for the charge after the child’s mother spoke to detectives at the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. According to the warrant, Cain-Byington asked for nude photos of the child and attempted to take part in sexual acts with the child. He also allegedly touched the child’s genitals.

When detectives searched Cain-Byington’s cell phone, they found deleted texts from conversations with the victim as well as nude photos of another juvenile on the phone.

Cain-Byington is free on bond.

A Bohemia man raped and exchanged graphic sexual images with two 13-year-old girls that he met on Snapchat, including one incident that occurred while the suspect was on home confinement after his arrest in May on child pornography charges, prosecutors said.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's office unsealed an 18-count grand jury indictment in Criminal Court in Riverhead Thursday against Brendan Sullivan, 20.

At a news conference Thursday, District Attorney Timothy Sini called Sullivan a "child sex predator" who preyed on vulnerable young victims.

He is charged with two counts of second-degree rape; three counts of endangering the welfare of a child; four counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child; four counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child; third-degree sexual abuse and second-degree criminal sexual act. Sullivan is also charged with three counts of criminal contempt for violating an order of protection by visiting the home of one victim and threatening to rape her.

Acting Suffolk County Supreme Court Justice Chris Ann Kelley held Sullivan on $500,000 bail or $1 million bond and issued orders of protections for three underage victims. If convicted of the top count, he faces up to 20 years in prison.

"This is a very disturbing case," Sini said. "This defendant used Snapchat and other means to prey on children. And this is a stark reminder for all the parents out there: if you can't effectively monitor your child's use of a particular social media platform do not allow them to use it."

Peter Mayer, Sullivan's defense attorney, said his client works in a boat yard, has no criminal record and lives with his parents, who were in court and declined to comment.

"These are just allegations at this point," Mayer said. "He is not convicted of anything. He is presumed innocent."

Sullivan first landed on the radar of law enforcement in May when the mother of an underage victim told police her daughter was communicating with the suspect on Snapchat and had arranged to deliver her vape pens, officials said.

He was arrested after police witnessed Sullivan put the pens in the girl's mailbox. The investigation later revealed Sullivan directed the juvenile to send nude sexual images of herself while he responded with naked pictures of himself, officials said.

Sullivan was charged with possessing a sexual performance by a child and endangering the welfare of a child — both non-bail eligible offenses — and released on his own recognizance with a GPS monitor.

Authorities said they found evidence on Sullivan's phone that he had sexual relations and traded graphic photos with a 13-year-old girl that he contacted through Shoutout, a Snapchat group, in March.

While on home confinement in August, Sullivan "continued to prey on young girls," having sexual conduct and trading graphic images with another 13-year-old girl, said Assistant District Attorney Dana Castaldo of the Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Bureau.

He was arrested on Oct. 22 in a Patchogue parking lot on Medford Avenue, police said.

"The actions of Brendan Sullivan are reprehensible and his young victims should be commended for their bravery coming forward," said Suffolk Police Commissioner Geraldine Hart. "While the Suffolk County Police Department is continuing to work with the District Attorney’s Office to identify other possible victims, I urge parents to speak with their children about utilizing social media safely and urge anyone who may be a victim in this case to come forward and have your voice heard."

Sullivan is due back in court Dec. 10.

Englewood, Fla man charged with possessing child sex abuse images

An Englewood man was arrested Wednesday on charges of downloading images of child sexual abuse.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, detectives received a tip Wednesday that Michael Ewing, 34, had photos depicting child sexual abuse, also known as child pornography, on his cellphone.

Detectives recovered five illegal images from the device.

In an interview after being read his rights, Ewing admitted to downloading the images and said he enjoyed doing research and was curious of child sexual exploitation. He said he wanted to see what was on the internet to protect his children. He said his actions were wrong and also said that, if the images are illegal, why does the internet allow it?

Ewing was arrested on charges of possession of child pornography and a count of possession of a controlled substance. He remains in jail without bail while the investigation continues.

Broome County man's conviction for predatory sexual assault of a child upheld by NY court

A Broome County man's predatory sexual assault against a child conviction in the abuse of a 5-year-old girl was upheld Thursday by a New York state appeals court, which found no problems with the evidence and his attempted defense in a jury trial.

Nicholas May, 34, of Lisle, is serving 15 years to life in prison after a Broome County Court jury found him guilty in September 2019 of committing sexual acts against the girl going back to April 2012, when she would have been 5 years old, and through the summer of 2015.

Prosecutors also charged May with engaging in two or more acts of sexual conduct with the girl between the summer of 2015 and October 2017 in Lisle. Throughout the trial, as Broome County Public Defender Michael Baker argued, May maintained his innocence.

On Thursday, the appeals court said the jury's verdict was "supported by legally sufficient proof and was not against the weight of the evidence."

With a case short on physical evidence, Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Milks used expert witnesses during the jury trial to argue that's not unusual in sex abuse cases like this one.

Testimony from the victim, who was 11 at the time of the trial, left little to the imagination — she said May subjected her to dozens of instances of sexual conduct.

Baker argued on May's behalf during the trial that accusing words from the child alone shouldn't have been enough to prove him guilty.

Although a different verdict wouldn't have been unreasonable given the victim's potential knowledge of sexual activity from other sources, the lack of corroboration for her testimony and indications that she may have had a motive to fabricate her claims, the appeals court said jurors clearly found her story credible after those issues were explored in the trial.

Rapist ex-cop, 69, who abused child to ‘fulfil sick fantasies’ dies in prison

A RAPIST ex-cop who “mercilessly sexually abused a child to fulfil his sick fantasies” has died in jail.

Colin Wraight, 69, is believed to have had a heart attack in his cell at Rye Hill prison, near Rugby in Warwickshire.

He rang an emergency bell complaining of chest pains in the early hours of October 28 - and staff found him struggling to breath. Guards and paramedics performed CPR, but were unable to save Mr Wraight, who had a history of heart problems. He was pronounced dead shortly before 1.30am.

Director of HMP Rye Hill, Peter Small, said: "On 28 October 2020, a prisoner passed away at HMP Rye Hill. Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this difficult time. As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman has been informed and it is a matter for the coroner to determine the cause of death."

Wraight was serving 19 years after being convicted of a series of sex offences, including raping a young girl, in August 2017. She gave evidence at Canterbury Crown Court and collapsed in the dock.

The pensioner - who served with Kent Police in Whitstable, Ashford and Ramsgate - had denied the charges against him, putting the girl through the nightmare ordeal of a week-long trial.

'I AM SCREAMING'

Her heartbroken mum told the court how her daughter has suffered severe psychological harm since the vile attacks - and now regularly experiences nightmares.

In a statement read out as Wraight was sentenced, she said their lives will never be the same again, adding that she tries to stay calm but “inside my head I am screaming”.

She also said her daughter feared Wraight, of Canterbury, would come through her bedroom window, saying: “I just hold her very, very tightly.”

The jury had heard how the victim drew pictures to reveal to her mother that she had been sexually abused. She sketched part of a hand and a pair of handcuffs, later telling police that Wraight had threatened to cuff her to a bed and made a “sick video” of the abuse, which she made him delete.

When detectives raided Wraight’s then-home on the Sea View caravan park in Whitstable, Kent, they discovered sets of handcuffs, a police truncheon and a vibrator, together with other sex toys and illegal child images on his computer.

Former army warrant officer Wraight – who also worked as a security guard at the crown court - was arrested at the caravan park in May 2017 and later charged, but denied all the offences.

He told the jury that the sex toys were bought because he was into bondage with a lover but struggled with erectile dysfunction.

Following his conviction, he was jailed for 19 years and ordered to serve an extra two when he is eventually released on parole.

Judge Rupert Lowe told Wraight he had a sinister side to his character that he had kept hidden for years.

UK TV show police officer is caged after trying to groom kids online

A POLICE officer who starred in a TV show was jailed yesterday after trying to groom kids online.

PC Lee Tatton was followed by camera crews for the fly-on-the-wall documentary Cops UK: Bodycam Squad as he helped rid the streets of criminals.

He was dismissed by Staffordshire Police after it was found he had tried to groom children online while working as a response officer for the force.

Tatton pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and four counts of making an indecent photograph of a child.

The disgraced cop, from Trentham, Stoke-on-Trent, was jailed for six months at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday.

Deputy Chief Constable Emma Barnett said afterwards: "Throughout this investigation, the priority has been the welfare, protection and wellbeing of the children involved.

"All officers and staff are held to the highest standards of behaviour and Lee Tatton abused the position of trust afforded to police officers. He is serving a custodial sentence which reflects the seriousness of his criminal behaviour and he has been dismissed as a police officer.

"He has brought shame on himself and he does not represent the vast majority of colleagues who I know will be appalled by his behaviour."

'FALLEN SHORT'

A Sexual Harm Prevention Order was made for seven years and Tatton will be required to sign the Sex Offenders Register for seven years.

Staffordshire Police Chief Constable Gareth Morgan said previously: "Officers swear an oath to serve the people of Staffordshire with fairness, integrity, diligence and impartiality - and the overwhelming majority of officers and staff are loyal to that promise.

"Lee Tatton has fallen far short of the high standards expected by the public and the force and his discreditable conduct has led to his dismissal."

A convicted paedophile has admitted abusing 20 children while working as a live-in au pair.

Aaron McWilliams abused children and babies he was employed to look after while staying in family homes across the UK and Europe.

The 28-year-old was sentenced to life for his horrific crimes, which were described by police as 'every family's worst nightmare.'

McWilliams, who is already serving time in Belmarsh Prison for child abuse, was told he will serve a minimum of nine years in jail at Woolwich Crown Court today.

That's a 'life' sentence? 9 years? The baby won't even be a teenager yet.

The predator made videos of himself sexually abusing children aged between four months and 14, and detectives now fear there may be further victims yet to come forward.

Police said McWilliams was 'manipulative, cold, calculating, and highly dangerous to children and young people.' 

McWilliams was first convicted in 2016 for sexually assaulting a four-year-old child.

After serving part of his sentence, McWilliams was released and began working with a family within a matter of weeks after providing fake references.

He sexually abused another four-year-old child and was jailed again for seven years in August 2017.

During the investigation, a phone was seized and detectives found 2,472 indecent images of children plus an extensive collection of videos McWilliams had made of himself sexually abusing his young victims.

The prolific child predator was interviewed twice in 2018 about the material on his phone and made admissions about his horrific actions.

Some 24 victims, aged between four months and 14-years-old, were identified during the investigation of which all but one were boys.

McWilliams admitted a string of 40 sex crimes against children including 14 counts of inciting a boy under 13 to engage in sex, eight counts of inciting a boy under 13 to engage in other sexual activity and seven counts of sexual assault on a boy.

These also include three counts of making an indecent photo of a child, three counts of sexual assault on a child, two counts of rape of a boy under 13, attempted rape of a boy under 13, sexual assault on a girl and engaging in sexual activity with a boy under 15.

DS Adam Ghaboos, of the Met Police Central East Safeguarding team, said: 'McWilliams is a predatory paedophile who sexually abused a large number of children he was entrusted to care for. It is every family's worst nightmare. He is manipulative, cold, calculating, and highly dangerous to children and young people.

'This case is among the most serious child abuse offending that the team has seen. I would like to acknowledge the courage of the young victims and their families who have endured the horrific abuse and the long-term harm these types of crimes cause. 

'McWilliams will spend a long time in jail where he cannot harm any other children.' 

Not nearly long enough if he is out in 9 years. This monster should never see the light of day again.

DS Ghaboos said there may be further victims yet to come forward and asked families who have employed McWilliams in the past to come forward.

He added: 'Our enquiries have led us to a large number of McWilliams' victims, but we can't rule out the possibility that there may be more. I would urge any families who have employed McWilliams or believe that he may have had contact with their children to come forward.'

I am pleading with parents of small children - don't hire a male babysitter, au pair, or anything else where your children will be under the care of men. There have been so many stories on the blog where boys, and men have taken advantage of children in their care. The risk is very substantial.

Pregnant woman tied up and burned alive in car ‘by married lover because she refused to abort the baby’

A PREGNANT woman was burned alive in a car by her married lover because she refused to abort the baby, it was reported.

Ellen Priscila Ferreira da Silva, 24, was four months pregnant when the vehicle she and Ely Carlos dos Santos, 39, were in was torched in Sao Paulo, Brazil. 

Their charred remains were found and police believe they were alive when they were tied up, petrol was poured on the car, and the vehicle was set alight.

Family confirmed who the victims were after they recognised the car, which belonged to Ellen's mother.

Four suspects have been taken in - three men, aged 19, 35 and 38, and a 36-year-old woman. The 19-year-old and the woman have confessed but the other two men have denied their involvement.

Paulo de Tars, the officer leading the case, told local media: "It was a premeditated and very cruel crime. One of the suspects even personally comforted the victim's mother after her death was confirmed."

He added: "The victim was four months pregnant by one of the suspects, who is married. His wife, who confessed, and who is also pregnant, knew."

Police are still investigating the motive behind the horrific attack.

Mr de Tarso said: "Ellen and Ely Carlos may have been in debt to a drug dealer who was also arrested.

"Another point is that Ellen refused to abort the child conceived in the extramarital relationship."

The main suspect is believed the 38-year-old man and the father of Ellen's baby. Police found out his car had travelled to the crime scene.

The man originally told police he had also been attacked and pretended to faint to avoid being burnt alive. However, he allegedly confessed later to inventing the story and self-inflicting his wounds under the effect of drugs sand he said he knew the couple.

Another suspect is believed to have involved and allegedly helped pour petrol on the victims.

The investigation is ongoing.

Alleged paedophile nurse continued working in Tasmania

as police investigated

James Geoffrey Griffin died just after police laid child sex abuse charges against him last year.

A Launceston nurse accused of child sex abuse continued working at a Tasmanian hospital for months while police investigated the claims.

In announcing the release of the terms of reference for the inquiry launched in the wake of the revelations, Tasmanian Health Minister Sarah Courtney acknowledged "the Tasmanian community would be appalled by some of the allegations that have been aired" about James Geoffrey Griffin.

"I know personally, I found them very distressing," she said.

Mr Griffin, 69, worked as a registered nurse on the Spirit of Tasmania, at the Ashley Youth Detention Centre and at the Paediatric Centre at the Launceston General Hospital (LGH).

In his record of investigation, Tasmanian coroner Simon Cooper detailed events in the lead up to Mr Griffin's death by suicide in 2019.

Mr Cooper wrote in May that year, a woman made a complaint to Tasmania Police of historical sexual abuse by Mr Griffin that allegedly occurred when she was 11 and he was 58.

At a subsequent police interview, Mr Griffin "made admissions that he had met the child through a local sporting group where he acted as a masseuse," Mr Cooper said.

"He also made admissions of criminal sexual misconduct in relation to her."

While the reports of child sex abuse were investigated, Mr Griffin was able to continue his work at the Launceston General Hospital for three months until the the end of July when his Working with Vulnerable Persons accreditation was suspended.

Mr Cooper wrote that in September Mr Griffin was charged with a number of criminal offences involving repeated sexual abuse of a child.

"By October 2019, four other females had come forward and made similar historic complaints of sexual abuse ranging from the late 1980s through to 2012," Mr Cooper noted. "Police searched Mr Griffin's home and located a significant amount of child exploitation material … as well as self-generated images of a young female [acquaintance].

"Additional evidence was located of internet chat sites where Mr Griffin spoke to others and bragged of using anti-histamines to sedate the female [acquaintance] and some of her friends when they slept over, in order to sexually abuse them," the coroner said.

Mr Griffin was arrested again on October 3, 2019 and charged with additional sexual crimes.

Mr Griffin's electronic devices were seized by police and subsequent forensic analysis showed they contained indecent images of a work colleague's child, as well as indecent images of children apparently taken in his role as a paediatric nurse.

"At the time of his death, Mr Griffin had not been interviewed by police in relation to these matters," Mr Cooper said.

The coroner noted Mr Griffin's son called in to check on his father on 14 October, finding him "unresponsive". He was taken by ambulance to his former place of work, Launceston General Hospital, where he did not regain consciousness and died on October 18.

Keelie McMahon was one of five women who came forward with allegations of abuse by Mr Griffin.

She said Mr Griffin worked with her mother at the LGH and the two families became friends. "He just came across as a grandfatherly figure to everyone."

"Everybody just thought he was so nice and just this great guy, really supportive and helpful of everyone and I think that's how he managed to groom so many people," she said.

Ms McMahon, now 23, said she was 14 years old when she was first abused by Mr Griffin. She said they were having a movie night when he allegedly touched her inappropriately.

"There was a heap of us in the same room and we all started going to sleep after watching some movies and he just got a bit too close," she said. "I kind of froze, I suppose that's just a coping mechanism. Once I pulled myself together, I moved away from where he was and it stopped.

"Then the next day, it was like it had never happened, he just acted as if he'd never done it and just went about his day like nothing had happened."

Ms McMahon alleges Mr Griffin sexually abused her again, around six months later while they were on a family camping trip on the east coast of the state.

Ms McMahon said she was upset when she heard of Mr Griffin's death because she had known him for so long. "But I was also angry," she said. "It wasn't right that nobody knew what he had done," she said.

'The hospital won't be able to cover anything up'

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) Tasmanian Branch Secretary Emily Shepherd said the ANMF would make its own submission to the investigation.

"The ANMF Tasmanian Branch has a zero tolerance for any form of sexual misconduct, particularly in relation to those who are most vulnerable, including children and young people."

"We must ensure that the outcome of this investigation is that this situation can never occur again," Ms Shepherd said.

"The ANMF subsequently discovered that complaints had been made to the Tasmanian Health Service and thereafter the Tasmanian Integrity Commission."

While Ms McMahon is pleased the investigation is going forward, she said it "should have started as soon as it all started coming out, not once they'd been named and shamed as such".

"The hospital won't be able to cover anything up, they'll have to put all their cards on the table," she said.

Australian chef with Sri Lankan links sentenced to jail for

sexually abusing young girls

The Daily Mail reported that the Gold Coast grandfather who paid impoverished Filipino girls as young as 14 to have sex with him and groomed others on Facebook will spend six-and-a-half years behind bars.

Rex George Harrison was nabbed by Australian Federal Police at Brisbane Airport in 2017 just as he was about to fly to the Philippines.

 

Harrison pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a foreign child via the internet between October 2016 and August 2017 in Brisbane Supreme Court on Monday.

The disgraced former chef, who has worked in five-star hotels in Australia, Dubai, Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka, also pleaded guilty to possessing child exploitation material and using a carriage service to transmit child exploitation material.

He was granted bail to appear in court on Wednesday for sentencing.

On Wednesday, the court heard Harrison travelled several times between Australia and the Philippines to engage in sex with girls as young as 14.

He paid them as little as $14 and up to $43 for digital, oral and penile sex, and on one occasion asked one of his victims to ‘bring a friend with her’ next time for additional payment.

 

Harrison told her he wanted a girl who was not yet developed, a virgin and about 13 or 14 years old, the prosecution said.

 

The court heard Harrison told the girl ‘you have plenty of friends who need that money’, which the prosecution argued demonstrated the highly predatory nature of his offending.

‘There is a large power imbalance between him and the children, there is a great level of vulnerability in the children because they all come from impoverished and disadvantaged conditions,’ the prosecution said.

Police found sexually explicit images of three separate underage girls from the Philippines on his phone when he was arrested, though he initially tried to deny their existence.

 

In relation to one victim, Harrison told her to urinate and defecate in some of the photographs, and asked for other photos of her while she was bleeding, the court heard. The prosecution described his requests as ‘depraved’. Harrison stared at the judge without any emotion as the facts were tendered to the court.

Justice John Bond said Harrison ‘has a pattern of sexual interest in female children, particularly in taking the virginity of girls as young as 13. You’re persistent, repeated and predatory in your offending… and your victims were particularly vulnerable.’

The court heard Harrison used emotional manipulation and threats to get one victim, aged about 17, to send up to 19 nude or partially nude photographs to him over the course of six weeks.

Other photographs on his phone were images he took of a child, aged between 14 and 15, after they had sex in July of 2017.

The victim offered the court a Victim Impact Statement, where she revealed she still hadn’t told her family or live-in partner of the abuse. She said she knew it would hurt and embarrass them if they were to know the truth, and she often questions ‘why she let this happen to her’.

The convicted paedophile offered no emotion as the sentence was handed down, and was led from the court into custody.

Harrison moved to Australia with his family in his 30s on a skilled migrant visa after working internationally in five-star hotels as a chef.

He separated from his wife and family in 2006, and the breakdown of his marriage was characterised by his ‘alcoholism and bad behaviour’, by his own admission.

Following the separation, Harrison took up a fly-in-fly-out job in Papua New Guinea, and began spending his off weeks in south east Asia, the Philippines in particular.

The court heard he has maintained a good relationship with his ex wife, three children and four grandchildren. No members of his family supported him in court as the sentence was handed down.

AFP Commander Lesa Gale previously said the then-63-year-old was talking a girl aged under 16 on Facebook ‘in an attempt to engage in sexual activity with her and other children’. ‘There are offenders who seek to use the anonymity of the internet to identify and target vulnerable children,’ she said.

He originally told officers he believed his alleged victim was ’18 or 19′, despite her referring to being in school in their online conversations, the court previously heard.

Commonwealth prosecutor Sophie Harburg said the father-of-three was an Australian citizen but did not live in the country.

Former RTÉ producer accused of child abuse in three jurisdictions

FORMER RTÉ producer Kieran Creaven is accused of child abuse in three jurisdictions, a court has heard.

The 58-year-old has been unable to take up bail since he was charged five weeks ago with 17 offences, in Ireland and outside the State.

He was arrested at his home at Adelaide Street, Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin. Conditional bail in his own bond of €500 with a requirement for a €10,000 independent surety had been set on October 1.

Mr Creaven faced his third hearing when he appeared at Cloverhill District Court today. He was still in custody.

The Director of Public Prosecutions has directed trial on indictment and a book of evidence must be completed. Detective Garda Johanna Doyle, who is attached to the Online Child Exploitation Unit, has sent the case file to the DPP.

A State solicitor told Judge Victor Blake the book of evidence was not yet ready and a number of statements from the UK were awaited. “The offences are complex and technical, and allegedly occurred over a period of time in three different jurisdictions,” the solicitor told the court."

Judge Blake was asked to extend time for completion of the book of evidence. He noted the accused was in custody with consent to bail and, acceding to the application, he further remanded him to appear on November 18. He said every effort should be made to have the book of evidence ready.

The unemployed former broadcaster, who was dressed in personal protective equipment (PPE) including a face mask and goggles, did not address the court. He consulted quietly with his barrister Sharon Rossiter whose application for legal aid to be granted to Mr Creaven was successful.

Mr Creaven's charges are:

Two counts of sexual assault of a child outside the State in 2014

Three counts of sexual exploitation of a child outside the State in 2014

Three counts of sexually exploiting a child in Ireland in 2017

Five counts of possessing of child pornography in 2017

Four counts of using IT and communication technology for the purpose of facilitating child sexual exploitation, inside and outside the State in 2017.

Some of the charges carry a possible sentence of life imprisonment. He has not yet indicated how he will plead.

At his first hearing, Detective Garda Doyle said it was alleged a search was carried out at Mr Creaven’s home in November 2017 which resulted in a discovery of pictures and videos of children. A large number of electronic devices were seized, she had said.

His solicitor had said it could be difficult for him to find someone to act as a surety. If bail is taken up, he must sign on daily at Dun Laoghaire Garda station from 9am to 9pm. He must “not use any social media platform, in particular Facebook and Skype”.

He has to surrender his passport within 48 hours of taking up bail, and notify gardaí of any change of address.

Former Devon headmaster charged with historic child sex abuse

A former headmaster from Devon has been charged with a number of historic sexual offences against a child.

Colin Brooks, 77, from Brixham, has been charged with one count of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14 years and six counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 16 years.

The offences are alleged to have taken place over a period of five years.

Brooks worked as a teacher and headmaster at various educational establishments within the South East of England.

Surrey Police say he is due to appear in court on 8 January 2021.

Man arrested over online child sex allegation after Colchester raid

POLICE arrested a man of suspicion of sex offences after an early morning raid by a team investigating child abuse.

Officers from the Child Sexual Exploitation Proactive Investigation Team executed a warrant at an address in Colchester on Wednesday morning. It is part of an investigation into the grooming and sexual abuse of children in north Essex.

The team was assisted by the High Tech Crime Unit and the Operational Support Group.

A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion for a number of child sexual offences including sexual communication with a child and inciting sexual activity with a child. Computers were also seized.

The team was formed earlier this year and deals with both reactive and proactive investigations that have been referred by partners or from other teams within Essex Police. They take on both new and older referrals where conventional safeguarding tactics have been previously unsuccessful.

Detective Sgt Ben Rushmere from the team said: “We are a dedicated team of detectives whose role is to target those suspects that hold the highest risk for exploiting children and young people.

“Our objective is to take on the most complex and difficult criminal investigations involving the sexual exploitation of children.

“Offenders can be individuals or organised groups, they could be using fake profiles to groom young people online, or befriending them and giving them money or alcohol.

“We use a variety of tactics to mitigate the threat they present. This includes reactive investigations responding to referrals from victims, families, and partners as well as those identified through proactive intelligence gathering.

“We will work with our partners to ensure there are bespoke care plans for victims which mean they don’t have to speak to us if they don’t want to, but mean they are given proper support, assistance and guidance by trained professionals from the many children’s charities we work alongside in Essex.

“To offenders I’ll say this – the nature of the tactics that are open to us are extensive and whether the children you exploit feel strong enough to give evidence against you or not we will be coming after you.

“Essex Police is determined to make Essex as safe as possible for our children and if you attempt to groom or exploit them we will target you at every opportunity.”

FIVE men from Redditch and one man from Droitwich have appeared in court charged with sexual offences against children.

It follows a West Mercia Police probe into the abuse of 10 girls in the Redditch area.

The men allegedly committed the offences between 2011 and 2017 against girls aged between 12 and 16 at the time.

The accused men from Redditch: Abdul Hussain, aged 21, Usmaan Asghar, 21, Arslan Tazarab, 24, Ethashan Tazarab, 20, Usman Ali, 27, appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

They were joined by Droitwich man Richard Jonathan Weaver, 27, who is charged with raping a teenage girl.

All were conditionally bailed to appear at Worcester Crown Court on December 1 where they will enter pleas.

A former Kent (Morman ????) - who subjected a child to numerous sex assaults - has been sent to prison.

I apologize to Mormons everywhere as it appears the writer of this article and his editor don't know the difference between Seventh Day Adventists and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Sydney Rayner - now 82 years old - carried out attacks on the victim he met at meetings of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

The sexual predator told her that she had a "womanly and curvaceous" body but she was still of primary school age.

For more than three years the married paedophile subjected his victim to sex assaults - which resulted in suicide attempts as she struggled to cope with her secret abuse, Maidstone Crown Court has heard.

Rayner, who now lives in Chester, has been jailed for seven-and-a-half years after admitting five historic child sex offences.

His victim wept in court as details of her abuse at the hands of the man she trusted after meeting in church in Kent were read out.

Six year old!

It was also revealed that Rayner has previous child sex convictions in the 1980s, one involving a six-year-old.

In her Victim Personal Statement, read out in court, she wrote: "What this man has done to me has had unimaginable consequences. I spent years trying to convince myself it didn't happen and that I had made it all up. I am grateful, in a way, that he has confessed and that justice is being served."

She added that the psychological consequences resulted in her unable to believe she could be "loved or worth anything".

Simon Taylor, prosecuting, said the victim was interviewed by police in 2018 and told how she had been sexually abused as a child, when she spent time with Rayner, who lived near Brenchley, and his wife.

The court heard that the police were called in when a Morman solicitor (or possibly SDA) reported him - but initially Rayner refused to confess.

Defence barrister Mark le Brocq said Rayner was now suffering from a failing eyesight and needed hearing aids.

Judge Tony Baumgartner banned him from working with children in the future and ordered him to sign the Sex Offender's Register for life. Rayner remained impassive as he received his jail sentence.

But the judge praised the victim for the courage she showed in coming forward to tell about her abuse.

Speaking after sentencing, DC Deniz Aslan, said: "Rayner repeatedly abused a vulnerable child over several years and acted in a despicable way. He is a predatory paedophile and has caused intolerable suffering. Rayner has finally been brought to justice through the courage of his victim and a period in prison will ensure he can cause no further harm to other young children."

An NSPCC spokesman added: “Rayner led a horrific campaign of calculated abuse over three years and left a trail of trauma along the way.

“Thanks to the bravery of his victim in recounting her life-changing ordeals, Rayner has finally been brought to justice.

“Speaking out about child sexual abuse is incredibly difficult for survivors of this awful crime but this case shows that they will be listened to, no matter how much time has passed.”

Incredibly difficult, but so completely necessary. You cannot get past the damage done until you have spoken it out, and, at least attempted to get justice.

A paedophile moved in with a woman and her two children who were not aware of his past, a court heard.

Craig Durrant lived for almost a year with the woman, who was expecting his child - but had no idea about his past.

Durrant, 27, was arrested in Wisbech in August on suspicion of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), and appeared for sentencing at Peterborough Crown Court on Wednesday.

The court was told Durrant was placed on the Sex Offenders Register in 2016 following a conviction for sexual offences against a child and made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) with strict conditions.

They included not having unsupervised contact with a female child under 16 without the consent of a child’s parent or guardian who has knowledge of his convictions and with approval of social services. They also included not living in the same household as a female child under 16 without approval of social services.

Conditions of being on the Sex Offenders Register mean Durrant must notify police within three days if he stays at a house for at least 12 hours where a child is present. He must also notify them of any changes in address, contact details or access to bank accounts.

On July 10, a police officer from the public protection unit paid Durrant an unannounced visit. He was not in but a housemate gave the officer his phone number to reach him on, which was not on the officer’s records for Durrant.

It was later discovered Durrant had been using the smart phone to use WhatsApp. With this, police located an address where he had been staying and had not told officers about, and had been using an email address and bank card which were not registered with police.

Durrant of King Street, Wisbech, admitted three counts of breaching conditions of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and three counts of failing to comply with the notification requirements of being on the Sex Offenders Register.

He was jailed for one year and three months.

Det Con Emily Heriot, from the north public protection unit, said: “Durrant was well aware of the conditions he must adhere to which have been in place for the last four years. He had every opportunity to disclose to police and probation the changes but failed to do so.

“I strongly urge anyone in a new relationship to use the Sarah’s Law disclosure scheme which allows you to ask us whether someone with access to a child has a record of child sex offences.”

Teacher Charged for Historical Raping of Student in Western Australia

Child Abuse Squad detectives have charged a 49-year-old man as a result of their investigation into a reported historical child sexual abuse incident.

It is alleged in 2001 the man sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl. It is further alleged at the time of the offence the man was a teacher at a school in the Mid-West Gascoyne District and the victim was a student at the same school.

The 49-year-old man from Doubleview has been charged with:-

• Three counts of Sexually Penetrated a Child of or over 13 and under 16 years; and

• One count of Indecently Deals with a Child over 13 and under 16 years.

What about the aggravating condition that he was a teacher and she was a student. I don't see that reflected in the charges.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 2 November 2020.

NSW man charged with historical child sexual abuse

A man has been charged with the sexual assault of a boy in Sydney's northwest more than 30 years ago.

In September last year, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad began investigating allegations of child sexual assault by a man between 1985 and 1989.

Detectives arrested a 65-year-old man at a home near Burwood on Wednesday and charged him with the sexual assault of a person under 16 and sexual assault of a person aged between 14 and 16.

NSW Police will allege in court the man sexually assaulted a boy - then aged between 10 and 14 - at various locations in Sydney's northwest between 1985 and 1989.

The man was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Monday.

Man sentenced to prison for child sex offences in Banbury, UK

A man has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment after he was convicted of one count of engaging in sexual activity with a child and one count of sexual assault in Banbury.

Corey Reid, aged 24, of no fixed abode pleaded guilty to the two offences in a hearing at Oxford Crown Court yesterday, Friday October 30.

Thames Valley Police released the following details about what happened.

Reid, who was sleeping rough in Banbury, met and befriended two teenage girls and a teenage boy in the town between 5.30 and 6pm on Saturday April 20, 2019.

He gave them alcohol and when one of his victims became intoxicated, Reid took her away from the group and sexually assaulted her.

One of the victim's friends called police and Reid was located and arrested.

The victim suffered both psychological and physical injuries as a result of the assault.

Following a thorough investigation, Reid was charged with the offences on June 2 this year and subsequently admitted both offences.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Bryn Smith of the Child Abuse Investigation Unit, based at Banbury police station, said: “Corey Reid is a predatory offender and poses a danger to children.

“His interests are satisfying his own sexual urges towards children, with no thought of consent or their welfare. He frustrated the police investigation with silence, and ultimately only pleaded guilty when he realised the evidence against him was so strong that he had no option but to do so.

“The victim in this case has shown incredible bravery throughout this traumatic experience. She was vulnerable, not only by her age, but also being intoxicated and targeted deliberately due to this.

“She is still terrified by Reid, who was a complete stranger, and no length of sentence will change that. I commend her for her bravery, and I hope that this sentence will act as a stepping stone to a confident and fulfilling future which she fully deserves.

“I would always encourage anyone who has been the victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report it to police. You will be listened to and supported by experienced officers and staff, and we will work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice.”

Police have charged a 22-year-old Geraldton man with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in Rangeway on September 5th.

Reynold Travis Gregory Alone appeared before Geraldton Magistrates Court today and was remanded to appear again on Thursday, November 5th.

Around 2 a.m., his alleged victim was walking down Blencowe Road between Utakarra Road and Johnston Street when he allegedly grabbed her hair from behind and dragged her into the nearby bushland and sexually assaulted her.

Sex Assault Squad officials, assisted by Geraldton Detectives, accused Alone of improper use of a child aged 13 and under; and a sexual penetration count of a child over 13 and under 16 in aggravating circumstances.

Victims of sexual abuse or those with information about someone who is being abused are asked to contact the police on 131 444.

 

Woman arrested for livestreaming sexual abuse of own daughters in Philippines

Police have arrested a 41-year-old woman for livestreaming the sexual abuse of her own daughters for money in Pampanga.

The sting operation on Tuesday, October 27, led to the rescue of the woman's children aged 14, 16, and 17 who are receiving proper trauma-informed interventions under the care of the social welfare office in Mabalacat, Pampanga. The International Justice Mission (IJM) also said they were also tested for COVID-19.

The suspect was brought to Camp Crame in Quezon City. She is set to face charges for human trafficking in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act, along with producing child sexual exploitation materials.

The Central Luzon Field Unit of the Women and Children’s Protection Center (WCPC) of the Philippine National Police said that they “will not stop in pursuing justice” for the 3 minors.

This is WCPC’s second operation since the Remote Accelerated Casework Event (RACE), an online and onsite training program for local police officers in investigating online sexual exploitation. This program includes foreign law enforcement as partners.

The 41-year-old woman is not a unique case. In May, a younger mother was arrested in Caloocan for the same reason – selling livestream feeds of her own children. The youngest child in this case was 4 years old.

Groups warn that lockdowns imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic could become conducive environments for online sexual exploitation. According to the Department of Justice, reports of online sexual exploitation of children tripled during the lockdown, as they received nearly 280,000 reports from March to May.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) dubbed the Philippines the “global epicenter of the live-stream sexual abuse trade” in 2016. The problem remains rampant in the country, some reasons being widespread poverty, cheap internet and smartphones, and Filipinos having the ability to speak English well.

The Philippines is facing a recession, as well as a record unemployment rate.

The IJM said suspected cases of online sexual of children may be reported by calling the IACAT 1343 Action line, or directly connecting with WCPC at (032) 410-8483 for Visayas, and 0917-180-6037 or 0928-604-6425 for Mindanao.

A 41-year-old bar manager who denied downloading indecent images of children has been found guilty of two offences.

Richard Tasker of Weymouth Avenue, Oakes, was charged with eight Category C offences on 23 September 2019 and two Category B offences. Category A is the worst.

He pleaded not guilty to both charges at Kirklees Magistrates' Court and claimed that his computer must have been hacked but after a trial was found guilty.

Prosecutor, Lauren Hebditch, said that on the morning of September 23, West Yorkshire Police officers raided the defendant's home where he was a lodger and seized a laptop on which the offending material was found.

When interviewed by police the defendant's solicitor Aubrey Sampson said his client admitted he owned the laptop and he was the only person to have access to it.

He freely admitted using it to access Pornhub and described himself as a "pansexual male" - someone who is not limited in sexual choice with regard to biological sex, gender, or gender identity.

And, apparently, age.

The defendant said he was interested in transgender porn.

Mr Sampson asked him: "Have you any interest in child porn?" he replied: "Absolutely not, I have no interest in that kind of thing."

Mr Sampson then asked him: "How did you feel about having child porn on your computer?"

He replied: "Very uncomfortable and very stressful and very disgusted by it."

Mr Sampson then questioned him about the morning of his arrest when the police said the images were downloaded over just a few minutes.

He said: "Can you recall what you were doing?"

The defendant replied: "I had just had a cigarette and was logged onto Pornhub."

Mr Sampson pressed him: "Did you download anything at all, child porn?"

He replied: "Absolutely not."

Ms Hebditch then asked him how the images came to be on his laptop.

He replied: "I have no interest whatsoever in children. Yes, I do have an interest in porn but so do a lot of people."

After deliberating for half an hour or so the chairman of the bench, Ian Maude, said they found the defendant guilty and that his defence that he had been hacked was "implausible" as only he had access to his computer.

 

He was told he must sign the Sex Offenders Register as soon as possible at Huddersfield Police Station, Castlegate, and he was told to present himself to Probation next month for a pre-sentence report.

He was released on conditional bail and told to reappear on Thursday, December 3, when sentencing would be discussed.

Afterwards, Ms Hebditch said the Crown would be asking on that date for the matter to be referred upwards to the Crown Court which has greater sentencing powers.
