Common sense and science are gradually prevailing.

Last week, the Norwegian Healthcare Investigation Board announced it would be revising its current guidelines regarding so-called " gender-affirming care" for minors because it no longer considers them to be evidence-based. The board also acknowledged that the growing number of teenage girls identifying as male post-puberty remains under-studied.

Under the proposed updated guidelines, the use of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and transition-related surgery would be restricted to research contexts and no longer provided in clinical settings. Norway joins Finland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom in introducing greater safeguarding for children. In the United States, eight states thus far have banned affirmative care for individuals under 18, with Tennessee being the latest to pass such legislation.

It's good that more professional organizations are recognizing the experimental nature of this approach in children. An existing body of research shows that most kids with gender dysphoria grow to be comfortable in their bodies upon undergoing puberty and that those wishing to transition suddenly post-puberty may be experiencing a social contagion. These studies have been dismissed because they don't fit the preferred activist narrative.

That narrative, however, will continue to fall apart. A recent paper in the academic journal Archives of Sexual Behavior discusses how the placebo effect has not been adequately taken into consideration when interpreting newer findings supporting transitioning in children. Although the term "placebo effect" has commonly referred to a patient's response to an intervention that is ineffective, it can also describe the beneficial psychological and physical effects associated with undergoing treatment, as opposed to the treatment itself.

For example, taking part in a study often delivers special attention to a patient and the expectation that their condition (say, gender dysphoria) will improve. While this may be a positive thing in a therapeutic setting, it's not something researchers should want to have confounding study results because the purpose of research is to objectively determine whether or not a treatment works. This is especially important when evaluating interventions that can have implications for a young person's fertility, future sexual functioning, and long-term health.

Although it may seem like a small step forward, I will take the win — both in terms of Norway's decision to change course and the fact that an academic paper, further poking holes in gender ideology, was successfully published.

A day after the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office in Gainesville, Florida, announced they had arrested and charged Lorenzo L. Crawford, founder of Christian Coalition Family Church, with child abuse, investigators slapped him Wednesday with an additional 11 counts of alleged sexual battery and one count of aggravated battery.

“Do you remember us telling you that our Detectives were continuing to investigate some ‘very serious allegations’ against Crawford? Sheriff Watson is pleased to announce that through the very diligent efforts of our entire Criminal Investigations Team, as well as the hard work of our community partners that assisted with forensic interviews, Crawford has been additionally charged with 11 counts of Sexual Battery and 1 count of Aggravated Battery,” the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office announced in a statement on Facebook.

Alachua County Sheriff Clovis Watson Jr., who has been in law enforcement for more than 20 years, called Crawford “one of the most heinous and vile human beings he has ever seen, as the acts he committed not only created physical and emotional scars for the victims, but it also created a spiritual void and an immense amount of doubt in people who believed in the church” according to the statement.

The sheriff’s office announced on Tuesday that Crawford, 54, who calls himself "apostle," was charged after an investigation into a report of sexual abuse at Crawford’s church.

“The initial investigation into Crawford was related to a juvenile victim who notified a family member that another juvenile church member confided in them that they had been sexually abused by a member of the church. The juvenile victim’s family member advised Crawford of the information provided, which caused Crawford to summon the juvenile victim to his office. The juvenile victim’s family member was made to wait outside the office, while Crawford scolded the juvenile about ‘minding their own business,’” police said.

Why did the parents agree to that? Boy did they fail their son!

“During the encounter, Crawford instructed the victim to go to their knees and take down their pants, before Crawford utilized the entire length of a belt to beat the bottom half of the victim. This act caused significant bleeding and four months later, has still left significant markings on the juvenile victim,” investigators added warning that “this investigation is not over!!!”

“Sheriff Watson wants to assure you that if you are victimizing our children and even worse, hide behind the guise of being a religious leader to do so, WE WILL DELIVER YOU TO THE JUSTICE SYSTEM!” Watson’s office warned.

Alachua County Sheriff’s Office public information officer, Art Forgey, told WCJB that police believe more victims will come forward.

“It’s sickening,” Forgey said. “I wouldn’t say that you could call this person a church leader when he’s doing the things that he is doing. That is nowhere to be found in the Bible or any other religion. I think to run under the guise of this being a religion is the first strike in this puzzle.”

Romania must legalise same-sex civil unions, Europe's top rights court ruled on Tuesday, in a victory for LGBTQ+ campaigners in the socially conservative southeastern European country.

Twenty-one same-sex couples took Romania to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), arguing the lack of legal recognition of their relationships "deprived them of their dignity as spouses". 

In a ruling on Tuesday, the ECHR found the country had violated Article 8 of the European Convention, which protects the right to respect for family life, by not giving LGBTQ+ couples any means of legally safeguarding their relationships.

The Romanian couples cited the disadvantages faced under current domestic laws, such as being barred from mortgage programmes, spousal bereavement leave or joint health insurance.

The ECHR said none of the government's arguments outweighed the couples' concerns, and further ruled that recognising same-sex civil unions would not harm the institution of marriage.

The ruling will become legally binding after a three-month period in which both sides have the right to appeal to a higher court of the ECHR.

If neither do, the ruling will stand and lead to Romania being required to implement legislation to introduce same-sex civil unions.

The Balkan nation of almost 20 million people remains largely socially conservative, ranking 41st out of 49 in the 2023 ranking of European countries' LGBTQ+ rights by advocacy group ILGA-World.

However, in 2021, a survey by Romanian civil rights group Accept Association showed 43% of respondents said they were in favour of legal protection for same-sex relationships.

Seventy-one percent said the move would have no impact on their lives.

Activists welcomed the ECHR's judgement, saying they hoped to see a bill concerning civil partnership, which has stalled in parliament since 2019, finally becoming law.

"For too long we, the LGBTQ+ people in Romania, have been treated as second-class citizens and it is time for a change," said Vlad Viski, executive director of MozaiQ LGBT Association.

Youth ministry founder Mike Pilavachi suspended amid allegations

of inappropriate massages

The founder of a popular Christian youth festival in the United Kingdom has been formally suspended from his post amid allegations of inappropriate behavior involving young men, which is being investigated by the Church of England.

In a statement Saturday, Soul Survivor Watford announced Rev. Canon Mike Pilavachi has been suspended by the board of trustees while a formal independent investigation conducted by the National Safeguarding Team (NST) and St. Albans Diocesan Safeguarding Team continues. 

"It has become clear that this more decisive action should have been made earlier and we have acted to correct this now," the statement reads. 

Pilavachi, 65, is a charismatic evangelist who launched the Soul Survivor charity in 1993. The organization held summer festivals that tens of thousands of teenagers attended. Those festivals stopped in 2019 as the charity now focuses on events for all ages from its church in Watford. The ministry leader was given an award in 2020 from Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby at Lambeth Palace to recognize "his outstanding contribution to evangelism and discipleship amongst young people in the United Kingdom." 

What a sad commentary that such an apparent monster could be revered (Rev. Canon...) and rewarded for his destruction of so many souls. There is no discernment in the church anymore - we are set up to be badly deceived in these End Times.

Pilavachi stepped away from the ministry and his affiliated charity boards this past April, but the acting chair of the Soul Survivor Watford board of trustees suggested at the time that nothing "should be inferred from Mike stepping back." 

The investigation was launched after an April 4 report from The Telegraph about allegations spanning several years that Pilavachi had "inappropriate intimate relationships" with young people participating in Soul61, a gap year project that trains young adults as disciples. 

Whistleblowers, including former Soul Survivor staff members and alleged victims, accused Pilavachi of running "a cult" where young men were persuaded to partake in full-body oil massages and wrestling matches, The Telegraph reported. Whistleblowers claim they also suffered psychological torment and spiritual abuse. The accusers assert this behavior was an "open secret" within the organization.

Soul Survivor Watford said it is cooperating fully with the investigation and states that "anyone affected will continue to be given the opportunity to contribute to the investigation and given the support they need."

"We are also committed to reviewing the culture of Soul Survivor Watford and are determined that lessons are learned to ensure a strong, healthy and supportive environment for anyone who calls this church their home," the statement continues. 

The Archbishop of Canterbury Welby publicly supported the CofE's investigation last week, expressing confidence in its handling of the matter amid calls for an independent investigation. 

"The investigation, which is being led by safeguarding professionals from the National Safeguarding Team and the Diocese of St Albans, is independent from Soul Survivor and has my full support," he said in a statement last Tuesday. "The investigation is prioritising the wellbeing of everyone concerned, and I am confident they are treating all who are involved in the investigation and everything that has been shared with the utmost care and sensitivity. Access to counselling is available and support is being offered to all concerned."

His statement comes as an abuse lawyer representing the complainants cast doubts on the integrity of the church's investigation and called for an independent and transparent examination of the allegations and the institutional response.

Paul Martin, who founded Soul Survivor USA in 2000, claimed that Soul Survivor leaders were aware of allegations surrounding Pilavachi as early as 2002.  

"I had brought Mike to the U.S. countless times between 1999 and 2007. In doing so I had introduced him to dozens — if not hundreds — of young men who fit the profile of what I heard back in the early 2000s, and in The Telegraph article," Martin told The Telegraph in early May. 

"It was my duty to speak so that potential victims here in the States were made aware, and that I take responsibility for my part in this sad situation — not one of negligence but of, as former executive director of Soul Survivor US, connecting Mike to young men that fit the profile of the victims that have come forward."

Jeffrey Epstein threatened to expose an affair Bill Gates allegedly had with a Russian bridge player after the Microsoft co-founder declined to join his philanthropic venture, according to a report on Sunday.

The disgraced pedophile, who killed himself (read - was suicided) in 2019, appeared to threaten Gates over the alleged affair with Russian card whiz Mila Antonova in a 2017 email, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Gates met Antonova in 2010, with the two were playing in a tournament together after she moved to the Bay Area to work as a software engineer, the newspaper said.

While Antonova acknowledged that she was on friendly terms with Gates during a 2010 video about her love of bridge, the two allegedly had a brief romance while Gates was still married to his then-wife, Melinda French Gates, sources told the Journal.

Epstein, meanwhile, met Antonova while she was looking for financial backers for a bridge academy and later paid for her to attend software coding school, according to the report.

In the 2017 email, Epstein called on Gates to reimburse him for the cost of investing in Antonova’s coding education, the Journal reported.

The message came just after the tech titan declined to join the convicted sex offender’s multibillion-dollar charity he was trying to kick off with JPMorgan Chase, sources told the newspaper.

Gates, 67, has previously admitted to and expressed regret for having several meetings with Epstein in the 2010s — after Epstein’s 2008 conviction in Florida on charges of soliciting and procuring a minor for prostitution — as part of efforts to raise money for the Gates Foundation.

“Mr. Gates met with Epstein solely for philanthropic purposes. Having failed repeatedly to draw Mr. Gates beyond these matters, Epstein tried unsuccessfully to leverage a past relationship to threaten Mr. Gates,” a spokesperson for Gates said.

The spokesperson added that Gates never paid up over the threat and that he had “no financial dealings” with Epstein. 

Antonova told the Journal that she didn’t know who Epstein really was when they met, thinking he was just a “successful businessman and wanted to help.” 

“I am disgusted with Epstein and what he did,” Antonova said, while declining to comment on her alleged relationship with Gates. 

Following her tournament match with Gates, which resulted in the billionaire’s victory, Antonova was inspired to start her own business venture teaching people to play the game she loved. 

Boris Nikolic, a top adviser to Gates at the time, pointed Antonova to Epstein, then a well-connected financier, who agreed to meet her at his Manhattan townhouse in 2013, sources told the Journal.

Consensus on the internet was that Antonova was in her mid-twenties when she had her affair with Gates. What is interesting is that she could have passed for nearly 10 years younger. The girls Epstein provided for his clients, and used himself, were mostly in their mid to upper teens and looked a lot like Mila. How did Epstein know about the brief affair between Gates and Antonova? Was he involved in it?

Although Epstein passed on the project, she said he did agree to help pay for her software engineer studies. 

“I don’t know why he did that,” she told the Journal. “When I asked, he said something like, he was wealthy and wanted to help people when he could.”

Epstein also provided an apartment for her to stay at in New York City in November 2014. Antonova said she did not interact with Epstein or anyone else during the brief stay.

Following his sex-crimes conviction, Epstein appeared to be on damage control and hoped to create a multibillion-dollar charitable foundation with Gates headlining as a big-name donor, sources told the Journal.

Epstein allegedly dropped Gates’ name as he worked to secure the foundation with JPMorgan Chase, but Gates and the bank declined to work together with him. 

The rejection triggered the email asking the billionaire to pay him back for Antonova’s studies, sources told the Journal, suggesting Epstein was attempting to blackmail Gates over the alleged relationship, which by then had been over for years.

Gates, Nikolic and JPMorgan Chase have said in statements that they regret ever meeting with Epstein on charitable matters. 

“I deeply regret that I ever met Epstein,” Nikolic, who worked with Epstein on philanthropic proposals, told the Journal. “His crimes were despicable. I never saw anything like his illegal behavior. My heart goes out to his victims and their families.”

The alleged relationship with Antonova would be the second such affair Gates has been accused of engaging in during his 27-year marriage with Melinda. 

In 2021, Gates acknowledged through a spokeswoman that he had an affair of almost 20 years with a Microsoft employee, a relationship the rep said “ended amicably” before Gates stepped down from the company to focus on his philanthropy. 

Microsoft spokesman Frank Shaw elaborated that the company’s board looked into the affair in 2019 after it received an email from an engineer.   

In the email, the woman demanded changes to her Microsoft job and also asked that Melinda read her letter revealing the affair. 

The email triggered an investigation into Gates as calls for him to step down grew, but the mogul was still re-elected to Microsoft’s board before he left in 2020.

News of the affair came following multiple reports that Gates clumsily asked out several women who worked for him at Microsoft and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. 

It’s unclear how much Melinda knew about her husband’s alleged behavior.

Irfan Qurban, 43, of Innings Way, Rochdale, has been charged with two counts of sexual activity with a girl.

Amjad Mahmood, 51, of Channing Street, Rochdale, has been charged with seven counts of rape of underage girl, two counts of gross indecency with an underage girl, two counts of indecent assault on an underage girl, two counts of trafficking persons within the United Kingdom for sexual exploitation, five counts of sexual activity with an underage girl, two counts of assault of an underage girl by penetration, two counts of causing/ inciting an underage girl to engage in sexual activity.

Gulnawaz Khan, 40, of North Street, Rochdale, has been charged with inciting an underage girl to commit an act of Gross Indecency, two counts of rape of an underage girl, two counts of sexual activity with an underage girl.

Naveed Anwar, 38, of Colley Street, Rochdale, has been charged with three counts of sexual activity with an underage girl.

Arshad Mohammed, 53, previously of the Milkstone and Deelish ward of Rochdale, has been charged with meeting an underage girl following sexual grooming, two counts of rape of an underage girl, sexual activity with an underage girl, assault of an underage girl by penetration, rape of a woman.

Sheraz Hussain, 39, of Cook Street, Rochdale, has been charged with six counts of rape of an underage girl and six counts of sexual activity with an underage girl.

Mohammed Zahed, 36, of Midhurst Street, Rochdale, has been charged with six counts of sexual activity with an underage girl.

Khalid Mahmood, 39, of Wardle Edge, Rochdale, has been charged with rape of a woman and rape of an underage girl.

Mukhtar Hussain, 39, of Royal Street, Rochdale, has been charged with two counts of gross indecency with an underage girl, six counts of rape of an underage girl, five counts of sexual activity with an underage girl and unlawful sexual intercourse with an underage girl.

Shakeel Ahmed, 40, of Spinners Green, Rochdale, has been charged with three counts of rape of an underage girl and sexual activity with an underage girl.

Amazing! These are all middle-aged men! It's hard to imagine that this will not affect the commercial well-being of Pakistani businesses in Rochdale, assuming they will all be found guilty and sentenced to prison.

While The Kerala Story is reaching new heights of success every day, the Islamic propaganda machinery is relentlessly working overtime to establish its claim that this movie is simply propaganda against Muslims. But there’s only so much that one can do to keep the truth from surfacing. Instances reported daily keep backing up the claims made by the Indian movie, which sheds light upon the Islamic jihad activity that is rampant in the country.

In a recent case reported from Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, a 19-year-old Hindu woman, a resident of the Prakash Nagar Agara-6 area, has recounted her ordeal of being groomed, converted, married and used as a sex slave by Muslims. Speaking to the media, the victim reveals that one of her Muslim friends began trying to convert her to Islam. Then she met her brother, and was soon lured into a relationship with him. She was studying for a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy; her friend’s brother, Arman Khan, son of Banne Khan, a resident of the Nai Basti area of Firozabad, was a bangles seller. The two eloped; the Hindu girl converted to Islam and then the couple underwent a nikkah, an Islamic marriage.

After the couple eloped, the girl’s family lodged a missing person report at the local police station. The police were successful in finding her. But when presented at the court, she stated that she wanted to stay with Arman. As she was an adult, the court left the decision to her. She abandoned her Hindu family and decided to marry Arman after converting to Islam. 

The ordeal began right after this nikkah. The girl was presented to several of her Muslim husband’s friends and forced to sleep with them. This continued for quite some time, until she finally decided to put her foot down.

Arman was regularly violent towards her; one day, after being beaten up by her husband, she approached her landlord and told her story. The landlord contacted Hindu activists from the Hindu Jagran Manch, who rescued the girl.

A FIR was lodged at the South Firozabad police station on Wednesday, May 10. In her complaint, the victim told the police that her husband Arman had assaulted her. Detailing the atrocities she faced during her stay with Arman, the victim said that he drugged her so that he and his friends could have a physical relationship with her. They used to bite her over her body, and there were also burn marks.

Hindu Jagaran Manch activist Madhurima Vashishth recounted: “The accused used to give the woman sleeping pills with a cold drink, he was forcing her to convert to Islam, he even presented his wife as a gift to his friends, who exploited her sexually. He was an alcoholic and used to beat her up now and then.”

The activist also added that when one of her husband’s friends tried to force himself on the victim, she attacked him in self-defense, enraging her husband. He brutally beat her. Frustrated by how her life had turned out, she tried to kill herself by cutting her veins, but somehow survived.

Kamlesh Kumar, the Station House Officer at Firozabad South police station, told the media that the police are investigating the matter. The girl now wants to return to her mother. The mother was always against this alliance and scolded the girl when she learned of her relationship with Arman.

This incident proves that romantic relationships and even friendships with some Muslims are dangerous for a non-Muslim.

A Muslim named Mohammed Shabbir set his Hindu “friend” on fire after pouring gasoline on him, merely because the Hindu man had put Holi colors on him. This further demonstrates that some Muslims look at every unbeliever as a target. All too many are never ready to assimilate, but always ready to unleash mental or physical violence on their unbelieving “friends.”

If they escape getting assaulted or attacked, they may end up joining a terror organization. Let’s talk about 25-year-old Ayesha Jannat Mohana, who was detained in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in July 2020 for having links with Jamaat ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), a designated terror organization in Bangladesh.

Ayesha was an Indian Hindu girl named Pragya Debnath before converting to Islam. A resident of Paschim Keshabpur village in Hooghly, West Bengal, Pragya, she had converted to Islam in 2009 after being influenced by her Muslim “best friend.” Her transformation was beyond praying to a different God. Such examples are aplenty; they warn against building any bond or camaraderie with Muslim hardliners posing as civilized and harmless fellow citizens, if people are wise enough to read the hints.

The Madhya Pradesh ATS, which arrested radical Islamic organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir, has made big revelations about the group. During interrogations, the MP ATS found that three of the arrested accused were earlier Hindus, however, they later got converted to Islam. They also married girls belonging to other religions and forcibly converted them to Islam.

Investigations also revealed that one of the arrested accused used to run a coaching center in Bhopal, where people were brainwashed.

Speaking to Aaj Tak, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra confirmed some of the arrested accused earlier belonged to other religions and later got converted to Islam.

Mishra also said one of the arrested accused was identified as Mohammad Saleem, whose real name was Saurab Bharadwaj. One Devi Prasad Pandey had also changed his religion and name to Abdur Rehman, he said.

The home minister confirmed all the accused married Hindu girls and forced them to accept Islam.

According to Narottam Mishra, Mohammad Saleem was employed as a professor at a college owned by Asaduddin Owaisi’s brother, Akbaruddin Owaisi.

Commenting on the arrests, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the arrested accused used to work as gym trainers, auto drivers, tailors, etc.

“The motive of these accused was to brainwash people and to push them into terrorism,” he said….

India’s anti-terror squad has arrested 16 Muslims aligned with the jihad group Hizb ut-Tahrir. Now it has come to light that the group’s members were Hindus who converted to Islam. They then “married girls belonging to other religions and forcibly converted them to Islam.” All this was part of the endeavor to increase the Islamic population and decrease the number of non-Muslims.

Hizb ut-Tahrir has already expanded into the European Union, fooling people in using the language of human rights (much like the Muslim Brotherhood does). But in 2021, the group showed its true colors in Australia when it organized a rally and featured a speaker who prayed: “Oh Allah, give us the necks of the Jews… of those evildoers!” In Turkey,  Hizb ut-Tahrir is openly campaigning for a caliphate.

Despite the obvious threat of Hizb ut-Tahrir (and more broadly, all jihadists) in expanding Islam, victimhood propaganda against India for alleged “Islamophobia” is still employed, as it is everywhere.

Terrorists Kill Women, Children In Fresh Attacks On Plateau State Community

Suspected terrorists have attacked and reportedly killed many residents, including women and children at Kubat village in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State during an assault on Monday night.

The terrorists invaded the community when the villagers were asleep….

SaharaReporters had recently reported that scores of residents were killed by gunmen who invaded at least four communities in Mangu and Bokkos Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

The suspected bandits stormed the communities two Sundays ago, unleashing a wave of violence.

Bandits!!!! Good grief! They are terrorists, not bandits.

Although the exact number of casualties has yet to be determined, several residents were believed to have died in the attack.

The Plateau State Governor seems to be helpless over the situation as his directive to the security forces has not only been ignored but failed to stop the killings.

It seems obvious that the state and national governments in Nigeria have no real intention to reduce the violence against Christians. Their collusion is nothing more than state-sanctioned genocide. More than 60 Christians have been slaughtered since the Governor came to power in March.

A report from International Christian Concern says that 42 people were massacred in this attack.

The Pastor-in-charge of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Takalafia, Nasarawa State, Rev Daniel Danbeki, and 37 others were gruesomely murdered by the assailants during the attack which lasted from 9 pm on Thursday night till the early hours of Friday.

A mass burial was held on Saturday for no fewer than 38 residents of Takalafia and Gwanja communities in the Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa state who were killed by bandits. The victims of the attack included women and children.

The deputy governor of the state, Emmanuel Akabe, led a government delegation to the mass burial which was conducted amid tears from sympathisers and other members of the communities….

Earlier, the Executive Chairman of Karu LGA, James Thomas, who visited the attacked communities before the mass burial, completely condemned the attack by the herdsmen….

Deutsche Bank has agreed to pay $75 million US ($101 million Cdn) to settle a lawsuit claiming that the German lender should have seen evidence of sex trafficking by Jeffrey Epstein when he was a client, according to lawyers for women who say they were abused by the late financier.

A woman only identified as Jane Doe sued the bank in federal district court in New York and sought class-action status to represent other victims of Epstein. The lawsuit asserted that the bank knowingly benefited from Epstein's sex trafficking and "chose profit over following the law" to earn millions of dollars from the businessman.

I don't understand! In all the stories I've done on this blog about Epstein, there was never a hint of him making money directly from prostituting the girls. My understanding was that he used the girls to have influence over his clients, and, possibly to be able to blackmail them in the future.

Someone help me understand how Epstein's bank was supposed to know about the child exploitation.

One of the law firms representing women in the case, Edwards Pottinger, said it believed it is the largest sex trafficking settlement with a bank in U.S. history.

"The settlement will allow dozens of survivors of Jeffrey Epstein to finally attempt to restore their faith in our system knowing that all individuals and entities who facilitated Epstein's sex-trafficking operation will finally be held accountable," the firm said in statement.

Bank says it erred in taking Epstein as client

Deutsche Bank would not comment on the settlement Thursday, but noted a 2020 statement from the bank acknowledging its mistake in taking on Epstein as a client, said Frank Hartmann, the German lender's global head of media relations.

"The Bank has invested more than 4 billion euros [$5.8 billion Cdn] to bolster controls, processes and training, and hired more people to fight financial crime," Hartmann said in a written statement.

The Boies Schiller Flexner law firm, which also represents plaintiffs, called the settlement an important step for victims' rights.

"The scope and scale of Epstein's abuse, and the many years it continued in plain sight, could not have happened without the collaboration and support of many powerful individuals and institutions," David Boies, the firm's chairman, said in a statement.

Deutsche Bank had previously joined JPMorgan Chase, which is also facing a lawsuit over its ties to Epstein, in fighting the allegations. Epstein killed himself (read - was suicided) in prison while facing federal criminal charges of sexually abusing dozens of underage girls.

Lawsuits drawing in high-profile figures

The German lender said late last year that it provided "routine banking services" to Epstein from 2013 to 2018 and that the lawsuit "does not come close to adequately alleging that Deutsche Bank ... was part of Epstein's criminal sex trafficking ring."

The lawsuits — which also target the government of the U.S. Virgin Islands, where Epstein had an estate — are drawing in some high-profile figures.

A U.S. judge decided last month that JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon must face up to two days of questioning by lawyers handling the lawsuits.

The Virgin Islands government also is trying to subpoena billionaire Elon Musk as part of its own litigation against JPMorgan, accusing the banking giant of enabling Epstein's recruiters to pay victims and helping conceal his decades of sex abuse.

JPMorgan has denied the allegations and in turn has sued former executive Jes Staley, saying he hid Epstein's abuse and trafficking to keep the financier as a client. A lawyer for Staley had no comment on the lawsuit when it was filed in March.

New app in Copenhagen will enable subjects of sexual assault to alert other users

of their location

As many as 225 times a week. That’s how many times women are subjected to rape or attempted rape, according to the Crime Prevention Council.

I wonder how many of those 225 weekly rape attempts are perpetrated by Musil migrants?

So the 1,500 women who have already registered ahead of the August launch of the Siréne phone alarm app, which enables women to trigger a loud notification to one another in the event of an assault, is just the tip of the iceberg.

To further its reach, its founders are encouraging all women in Copenhagen to register as a ‘runner’ – and thereby potentially intercept an assault whilst it is going on.

Studies show that nine out of ten sexual assaults quickly de-escalates if the perpetrator is caught in the act.

The team behind Siréne are hopeful that 1 percent of all women in Copenhagen will register.

Founder was assaulted on a train

One of the founders is student Caroline Louise Lilleør, who in 2019 was assaulted on the train from Copenhagen to Aarhus, she tells KøbenhavnLiv.

After several inappropriate and transgressive touches, she kicked the man and left the carriage. When she later told her fellow students, she realised she was not alone. With three others, she has launched wearesirene.dk from a premises in Valby.

“When there is someone who needs help and presses the siren, it sends a message through the app to the nearest runners,” she explained.

“As a Runner, you will get a loud notification on your app that says “Caroline Lilleør needs your help. Can you run?” Then you have to answer yes or no. If you answer yes, you enter the app and then you see the location of the person who needs help, and you see the location of the other runners who have agreed to run.”

In August, they will roll out the first version of the app. However, pre-registering is possible today via wearesirene.dk.

What a great idea! I would suggest girls carry some pepper spray or some other kind of weapon in case they are the first or only one to help.
