KUANTAN: The wives of Pahang state assemblymen have decided to spread awareness on child sexual abuse with a campaign-cum-seminar on April 22.
The campaign had a soft launch after the opening of the state assembly sitting at Wisma Sri Pahang yesterday.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob (Prime Minister) and his wife Datin Seri Junaini Kassim together with other state assemblymen and their wives penned their signatures in support of the campaign.
“We want to fight those who commit child sexual abuse and bring offenders to justice. We will distribute flyers on the campaign at shopping centres and in other public places,” said Junaini.
She said a portal, pahangcakna.com, had been launched to provide victims and families involved in child sexual abuse cases with an avenue to make complaints and get the authorities to take action.
Junaini said the campaign was in line with the “Child Sexual Crimes: Stop It!” national seminar on combating such crimes by Permata, whose patron is the Prime Minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
The Sexual Offences Against Children Bill 2017 was tabled and passed in Parliament last week and incorporates key provisions against child sexual grooming, child pornography and physical and non-physical sexual assault.
Efforts by The Star’s R.AGE team via the extensive Predator in My Phone campaign contributed to the tabling of the Bill.
This is great stuff! So proud of you Malaysia!
