Playpen creator gets 30 years in prison for
child sex abuse website
The Naples man who created and led the website, Playpen, dedicated to the sexual abuse of children received a 30-year sentence for his role in the global exploitation of children.
Steven Chase, 58, ran the website on the Tor anonymity network. Part of his conviction includes lifetime supervised release, and he forfeits his home in Naples.
Trial evidence showed Chase and more than 150,000 members of his website created and viewed tens of thousands of posts involving sexually abused children.
"Chase was the mastermind and gatekeeper of Playpen, a hidden, members-only Internet platform and a safe-haven for those looking to view and trade in child pornography without detection," U.S. Attorney Westmorland Rose said. "Today's sentence delivers a clear message that the dark web is not a safe place for those looking to [engage in child porn]."
Chase was arrested in February 2015. Chase's co-defendants Michael Fluckiger and David Browning pleaded guilty for their roles in moderating Playpen. Fluckiger and Browing received 240 months in prison and lifetime supervised release.
Alberta parents facing charges related to
sexual abuse of children
By Slav KornikWeb Producer Global News
The parents of two St. Albert children have been charged after alleged incidents of sexual abuse.
The parents were charged on Tuesday. The Edmonton-based Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit alleges the father had committed sexual offences against his two school-age children and the mother was aware of the abuse but didn’t contact police.
“It’s a very sad case. These two wonderful children who had their innocence stripped away for some sick sexual depravity by the people that they are closest to and that they should be trusting,” ICE Staff Sgt. Stephen Camp said.
“These children will have to live with that trauma for the rest of their lives.”
The 35-year-old father was charged with two counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual interference, two counts of invitation of sexual touching, making child pornography available and possession of child pornography.
The 32-year-old mother was charged with causing a youth to need intervention.
Police aren’t releasing the names of the parents in order to the protect the identity of the children.
ICE is working with the Zebra Child Protection Centre and Alberta’s Child and Family Services to provide support for the children.
“We’re going to provide a support and safety plan for them that’s tailored for their needs and is in the best interest of the child,” Kristin Simpson, Zebra director of child support services, said.
“We are very grateful to be working with the Zebra Child Protection Centre to provide the necessary support and the necessary assistance in their long recovery process to manage this type of trauma for probably the rest of their lives,” Camp said.
The investigation started in March 2017 after police were told by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about a person uploading child pornography on social media.
“We have a lot of partners in the social media application industry. They have their own units to peruse their sites and they will find child pornography being uploaded, and they will report to the NCECC which will report to the appropriate jurisdiction,” Camp said.
ICE said it identified the suspect and a search warrant was conducted at a St. Albert home, where computer and electronic devices were seized.
Scottish teen downloaded child porn from the age of 9, with victims as young as 5 months
Usman Awan, 18, who was said to have been downloading indecent images when he was still a primary school pupil, came to the attention of cops through Police Scotland's new operation
By Rory Cassidy
A TEEN who was charged with downloading child sex abuse images from as young as NINE was caught during a nationwide campaign to stamp out paedophilia.
Usman Awan, who was said to have been downloading indecent images of children when he was still a primary school pupil, came to the attention of cops through Police Scotland’s new operation.
Awan, now 18, was found to have downloaded pictures and videos of girls as young as five-months-old being abused on to his Samsung tablet.
The tablet on which he downloaded the sickening stash, which also included a six-minute-long video of an eight-year-old girl being forced to perform oral sex on a grown man, was found on his bedroom floor when police arrived to search the property.
The NOCAP Campaign (National Online Child Abuse Prevention) sees an Internet Investigations Unit proactively policing the internet to catch people involved in the sexual abuse of children and, during their probe, Awan’s online activities came to light.
I hope there is a serious investigation into this kid's background. How does a 9 y/o get hooked on child porn? There is something extremely wrong in this boy's background.
Jury convicts Keizer man of marital rape, child sex abuse
Whitney M. Woodworth , Statesman Journal
Following a six-day trial, a Marion County jury convicted a Keizer man of 18 counts of marital rape and child sex abuse Thursday.
Nikolay Avdeyev, 53, was convicted of three counts of first-degree rape, three counts of second-degree rape, one count of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration and eleven counts of first-degree sexual abuse.
Avdeyev was arrested in December 2015 following an investigation by the Keizer Police Department, Marion County District Attorney officials said.
He was accused of sexually assaulting three victims repeatedly over a three-year period.
Two of the victims were children at the time of the abuse. The third victim was married to Avdeyev when he raped her, according to the District Attorney's Office.
After he was determined to be a public safety risk, a flight risk and a danger to his victims, Avdeyev was held on $2 million bail.
During the six-day trial before Marion County Judge Donald Abar, the jury heard testimony from the three victims and investigators.
All charges are Measure 11 offenses and require mandatory minimum prison sentences. First-degree rape and first-degree unlawful sexual penetration each carry a minimum sentence of eight years and four months. Second-degree rape and first-degree sexual assault require a sentence of six years and three years in prison.
Please, judge, let there be no concurrent sentencing. Put this animal away for the rest of his miserable life.
After the jury read the verdict, he was transported back to the Marion County jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 17 at 11 a.m.
Aussie paramedic sentenced to 13 years' jail for sexual abuse of 22 girls across three states
By Isobel Roe, ABC
Predator gets little more than slap on the wrist from judge
A former Queensland ambulance officer has been sentenced to 13 years in jail for "depraved" sexual abuse of 22 young girls across several states over a 10-year period.
The victims of 49-year-old Jason David Brooker were in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, with the youngest being 11 years old.
Brooker, who was between 38 and 47 years of age at the time of offending, contacted young girls via social media sites Kik, Tagged and Facebook using the name 'Jaz', 'David Bourne' or 'David Brook'.
In the District Court in Toowoomba on Tuesday, Brooker pleaded guilty to 57 charges, including maintaining a relationship with a child under 16, carnal knowledge, indecent treatment and making and possessing child exploitation material.
The offending was carried out from Brooker's home in Warwick on Queensland's Southern Downs between 2005 and 2015, when one victim raised the alarm and police raided his property.
The court heard Brooker often paid for mobile phone credit for the young girls or offered to "get them into modelling" in exchange for naked photographs, and threatened to release the photos on the internet if the girls did not comply with requests for more explicit material.
Offender videoed sex with 14yo girl
Crown prosecutor Elizabeth Kelso told the court the most serious offending was involving a 14-year-old girl, who he lured via social media pretending to be a 16-year-old boy.
After several webcam chats where Brooker asked the girl to take off her clothes, the pair met multiple times including at a park and a hotel in the Brisbane suburb of Brookside.
Ms Kelso told the court the girl had not told her parents where she was going.
"[Brooker] filmed some of those interactions," Ms Kelso said.
"In that footage he can be seen undressing the complainant."
The pair then had sexual intercourse, which was also recorded on video.
'I was made to feel like a disgusting human being'
During police raids of Brooker's Warwick home in 2015, officers found a disc containing 83 photos of the girl in states of undress.
The court was read a victim impact statement from that girl, who is now an adult.
"[I] feel sick because of the visual memories," the statement read.
"I feared for my life and my family's too — I was made to feel like a disgusting human being."
Ms Kelso said Brooker would request naked pictures and send pictures of his own genitalia to other girls.
The victims often found out the person they were talking to was not a 16-year-old boy when Brooker turned on his own webcam.
Ms Kelso said Brooker would often tell his victims he loved. If they refused his advances, he would threaten the victims with knowing where they lived.
"If the complainants became reluctant or started to ignore the defendant, he became angry," she said.
"Where he had provided them money, he would tell them he felt he'd been ripped off."
Ms Kelso said the most disturbing thing about Brooker's conduct was the "meticulous" nature of the thousands of photos and videos in his child exploitation collection, found during the police raids.
Some of the exploitation material was of children as young as three years old.
"Not only was is stored electronically, it was also stored on CDs identified with the girls name, age and locations," Ms Kelso said.
The raids also uncovered stolen prescription drugs and uniforms from the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS).
Brooker left the QAS during the 10 years of offending and began to work for a private firm as a paramedic.
Brooker's defence lawyer David Jones told the court his client had not shared any of the child exploitation material he created.
He said Brooker's conduct was largely inexplicable, but he had written a letter of apology and was on the road to rehabilitation.
In sentencing, Judge Deborah Richards told the court one incident involved threatening a young child with harm.
"You said: 'If you don't send me nudes I'll track down your address and hurt your family' — she was 11 years old," the judge said.
Judge Richards said Brooker offended with the hope of having each of the girls have sex with him.
"You did make admissions ... but downplayed the criminality of your actions on many occasions," she said.
Judge Deborah Richards chose not to label Brooker a serious violent offender.
He will be eligible to apply for parole in January 2021, six years after he was taken into custody.
Good grief! Why not give him a gold watch and a pension? The man is a predator! Don't young Australian girls have a right to live without a perverted predator running around loose. What a pathetic sentence!

Sheriff's Investigator Matthew J. Robinson investigated the case, according to the sheriff's office report.
Carlisle man spared prison for downloading
child sex abuse images
By Staff reporter
A MAN, aged 63, has picked up his first criminal conviction – for downloading scores of child sex abuse pictures.
David Ogilvie was visited by police in November last year. It was discovered he had downloaded the illicit material over a period of several years.
Ogilvie was sentenced today at Carlisle Crown Court. He had previously admitted three counts of making indecent photographs of children, and one possession offence. Some of the 161 illegal images were classed in category A – the most serious.
Ogilvie – married and a man of (apparent) previous good character – was said to be “disgusted with himself”, and had since voluntarily sought specialist help.
After hearing mitigation, Judge Peter Hughes QC suspended a 16-month jail term for two years. Judge Hughes imposed a community order, comprising a rehabilitation requirement, and a £5,000 fine.
Ogilvie, of Housesteads Road, Carlisle, must also sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years, and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order for the same period.
I'm good with the judges sentencing except for one thing which I don't understand. He admitted to 3 counts of making indecent photos of children; how do you do that without actually sexually abusing children? Yet there were no charges of child sex abuse. Making child porn ought to be treated far more seriously than just having child porn. Taking photos of children in a sexual setting is child sex abuse even if the child is never touched by the pervert.
Maybe Judge Hughes can explain how you make child porn without child sex abuse.

Former Fourth Reich bikie Lester Mills confesses to sexual abuse of underage girl
A Brownsville man who indecently assaulted an underage girl at his home in 2015 has been identified in court as Lester ‘Sooty’ Mills, a convicted paedophile and former member of the Fourth Reich outlaw motorcycle gang.
Mills, a long time associate of the Albion Park-based club, touched the girl’s genitals then video-taped her in her school uniform one afternoon in September 2015 when she was at his house with a family member.
He also put $100 on the kitchen table and told the girl he’d give it to her if she came back to the house on another day and “stayed for an hour”.
The girl disclosed the incident to her family that afternoon and the incident was reported to police. Mills was arrested and charged the following day.
His criminal history reveals it was the second time Mills had abused underage children. In the early 2000s, he was sentenced to three years’ jail for similar offences against a child under the age of 10.
Meantime, a month after Mills’ 2015 arrest, specialist police carried out a controversial raid on the Fourth Reich’s Albion Park headquarters during a charity bike show in which officers were recorded telling people they were supporting a club that “has members that sexually assault kids”.
Club lawyer Bill Whitby confirmed that the club had stripped Mills of his membership after the 2015 charges were laid.
Mills had been due to stand trial on those charges in Wollongong District Court this week, however entered pleas of guilty on Monday morning.
He did not oppose a Crown application to revoke his bail, with his lawyer saying her client conceded he would be facing full-time prison when he is sentenced on July 7.

Eric W. Judy, 53, often took the victim on trips across the county, country
By: Jonathan Hunter
HERNDON, Va. - A Herndon man has been charged with sexually abusing a juvenile over the course of the past four years.
Eric W. Judy, 53, is charged with carnal knowledge of a child, (13-15-years-old) taking indecent liberties with a child by person in custodial or supervisory relationship and production of child pornography.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office became aware of the allegations on May 1, after the victim confided the information to a family member. The victim, who is now 17, reported the suspect had sexually abused him since May 2013, when he was 13-years-old.
The suspect, who was a family friend, often took the child alone on trips in Loudoun County, in the Commonwealth of Virginia as well as other parts of the United States. Detectives with the Loudoun Sheriff's Special Victims Unit are reaching out to the other jurisdictions as part of the continuing investigation.
