SAR Launches Probe Of Alleged Child Sex Abuse
By Ex-Assistant Principal in NYC
By JTA
A liberal Orthodox Jewish day school in New York City has launched an investigation after a former assistant principal was accused of sexually abusing a student in the 1970s.
Salanter Akiba Riverdale Academy in the Bronx, known as SAR, informed its community of the investigation in an email Tuesday night. A former student recently emailed the school alleging abuse committed by Stanley Rosenfeld, the school’s former assistant principal for general studies.
“As painful as this is for our school community, the pain for any of the victims of abuse is far greater,” read the email, signed by Rabbi Binyamin Krauss, principal of the elementary and middle school, and Rabbi Tully Harcsztark, the high school principal. “We are committed to being supportive to any victims of abuse, to understanding the abuse they suffered and the harm it has caused them, and to learning from our past experiences and using them to inform our present practices to protect our community.”
Rosenfeld, now 84, worked at the school in the 1970s. At the time, SAR ended at eighth grade. Its high school was founded in 2003.
In 2001, Rosenfeld was convicted of two counts of child molestation for abusing a 12-year-old bar mitzvah student while serving as cantor of Temple Am David in Warwick, Rhode Island. He was given a suspended sentence but served 18 months in prison after violating probation.
SAR has hired an external firm, T&M Protection Resources, to investigate the claims. The school is encouraging people to come forward with any information they have about abuse committed by Rosenfeld. It expects the investigation to take several months.
“We are committed to a thorough and comprehensive independent investigative process about the abuses perpetrated by Mr. Rosenfeld as well as what may have been known at the time or more recently,” Krauss wrote JTA directly in an email. “At this point, it would be premature to speculate on the findings of this effort.”
The community email noted that in recent years, the school implemented policies to prevent sexual abuse and harassment.
Texas stepfather will face pre-trial for
sexual abuse of 6 y/o girl
A man charged with continually sexually abusing his stepdaughter from ages 6 to 8 will face a pre-trial hearing Thursday.
Deputies were first alerted last February, when it was reported that 23-year-old Ervey Perches had been sexually abusing his stepdaughter, the probable cause affidavit stated.
The pre-trial hearing is set for 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Ector County Courthouse, 300 N. Grant Ave., in the 244th district court, presided over by Judge James Rush. Court records show Robert Garcia listed as Perches’ court-appointed attorney.
The victim told police Perches started abusing her when she was 6 years old, and continued to do so until she told her mother in February, the report detailed.
The abuse began with Perches reportedly touching the victim’s breast, anus and vagina over her clothes, the affidavit said. The victim also told police that Perches sexually assaulted her in a number of ways and that the majority of the abuse took place in her mother’s bedroom.
The victim further described to police how Perches would make her go to the bathroom to clean herself up after he was finished, the report stated.
Perches reportedly threatened to hurt the victim’s mother if she told her, the report stated.
After being examined by a sexual assault nurse, evidence was found corroborating that penetration had occurred, the affidavit detailed.
Perches was charged in March with continuous sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.
Jail records show Perches was taken to the Ector County Detention Center on March 1, where he is still being held with a bond set for $200,000.
Court records list Perches as having a trial date set for 9 a.m. Jan. 29.

Iowa teacher testifies two kindergartners didn't tell her about being sexually abused
Trish Mehaffey The Gazette
TOLEDO — A Starry Elementary teacher, charged with not reporting sexual abuse of two kindergartners in her classroom back in 2016, testified Wednesday during her Tama County trial that the girls didn’t report any kind of abuse to her.
Diane Graham, 59, of Cedar Rapids, admitted to being a mandatory reporter as a licensed teacher, and “If I hear or see sexual abuse, I can report it.”
“If you don’t see or hear it, you can’t report it,” Graham, who has been a teacher for 30 years, said.
Graham, who has taught at Starry Elementary for 17 years, is charged with failing to report sexual abuse as a mandatory reporter, a simple misdemeanor.
Two 6-year-olds testified Tuesday that they were sexually abused by Graham’s classroom volunteer, Logan McMurrin, 15 at the time, in 2016. Both girls, who were 5-years-old when the abuse happened, said they told Graham of the abuse.
A criminal complaint shows the incidents occurred between Aug. 26 and Oct. 24, 2016 in the classroom.
Graham, who now is on administrative leave, failed to report the children’s disclosures to law enforcement or the Iowa Department of Human Services, a complaint shows. As a teacher, she is a mandatory reporter and required to report abuse against a child younger than 12 within 24 hours.
McMurrin, now 16, later was convicted in Linn County Juvenile Court on three counts of sexual abuse against two six-year-old girls and a five-year-old girl. Graham’s trial was moved from Linn County to Tama County based on pretrial publicity.
The defense started its case today with a few character witnesses and then Graham testified. The defense rested and closing arguments will be 9 a.m. Thursday, barring any delays regarding the predicted snowy conditions in the Tama County area.
Graham testified the children didn’t tell her, as they claimed, and the first time she heard of abuse was when the mother of one of the girls emailed her Oct. 24, 2016. The mother learned of the sexual abuse Oct. 21, 2016, according to testimony.
Graham said she forwarded the email to the Starry Elementary principal, the supervisor of the volunteer program and Marion High School principal. She believed she was following protocol, she said.
The only incident of a child telling her anything about McMurrin was another little girl, not involved in this case, who said he tickled her on the hand, Graham said. She didn’t see that as sexual.
Mark Brown, Graham’s lawyer, asked her if she had any problems with the girls who made the sexual abuse allegations. Graham said she had good relationships with both girls.
Powers said the email from the mother said her daughter told her McMurrin tickled her inappropriately. “That’s not proof that anything was going on?”
Graham said no.
You need proof before you do anything? Good grief!
Other defense witnesses testified about Graham’s character but only two had any experience at Starry or with Graham as a teacher. The other defense witness, Katherine Jacobs, a clinical psychologist, Farmington Hills, Mich., was privately retained by Graham to give her expert opinion on how the memory of a child can be influenced
The girls, who said they were sexually abused on (by?) McMurrin were interviewed at the St. Luke’s Child Protection Center, according to testimony Tuesday. The girls talked to school officials before they were interviewed at the center and one of the girls was interviewed twice.
Jacobs said memories are perception, not a recording, and in younger children their memories can be influenced by many factors. The forensic interviewer should ask open-ended questions. She said there is a concern if one interviewer talks to more than one victim in a case because the interviewer can have preconceived notions.
Jacobs admitted she was paid about $6,000 for her time in court and review of court records related to this case.
DA Seeks to File More Sexual Abuse Charges
Against Former California Cop
The district attorney is seeking to file more sexual-abuse charges and name three new victims in the case against former Correctional Officer Cory Jordan Fisher Sr.
Today Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads told Judge John Feeney she wants to file an amended complaint against Fisher, already accused of molesting three boys. The amended complaint would list three “James Doe” victims in addition to the three “John Does” in the original complaint.
Outside the courtroom, Eads said the new accusations include felony forced oral copulation and misdemeanor sexual battery against one boy, other counts of misdemeanor sexual battery involving two more boys, and one count of unauthorized invasion of privacy (being a Peeping Tom) that does not list a specific victim.
Eads said the crimes occurred in June, July and August of 2017. Fisher, 30, resigned in August from his 11-year position as a local correctional officer and moved to San Bernardino. Eureka police arrested him there Sept. 15 after investigating claims of long-term sexual and physical abuse of children.
Today Deputy Public Defender Brie Bennett told Feeney that her office, after reviewing new information from the prosecution, must declare a conflict in Fisher’s case. The judge appointed the county Conflict Counsel’s Office to take over the defense. Deputy Conflict Counsel Meagan O’Connell said she couldn’t respond to the prosecution’s proposed motion to amend the complaint, considering she hasn’t even seen the original.
At O’Connell’s request, Feeney continued Fisher’s preliminary hearing from tomorrow to Feb. 13. A Jan. 17 hearing has been set to hear a motion to impose a gag order in the case. O’Connell said she should know by then whether she will object to the motion to add new charges.
Fisher could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted of all charges, including the special allegation of recurring sexual abuse of a child. He is being held on $3 million bail and is segregated from the jail’s general population.
Fisher’s estranged wife, who has attended most of his court hearings, was not in the courtroom audience this morning.

Tennessee nurse charged with disclosing child rape details, destroying evidence
BECKY CAMPBELL, bcampbell@johnsoncitypress.com
A highly respected sexual assault nurse who has testified in dozens of child and adult sexual assault cases throughout the Tri-Cities was arrested Thursday, accused of disclosing case information to a suspect’s relative in a child sex abuse case and destroying evidence, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Tessa Proffitt, 41, a Mountain States Health Alliance certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners nurse — a registered nurse who specializes in sexual assault examinations — came under investigation in July after Sullivan County District Attorney General Barry Staubus requested the TBI investigate allegations.
“In July 2017, at the request of 2nd District Attorney General Barry Staubus, TBI Special Agents began investigating allegations involving the release of confidential information associated with a child sex abuse case that began in January of last year,” said TBI spokesman Leslie Earhart.
The original child sex abuse case was being investigated by the Elizabethton Police Department. The child, who was reportedly raped, was medically examined by Proffitt. When EPD investigators suspected confidential information had been shared, they went to District Attorney General Tony Clark, according to Sullivan County Assistant District Attorney William Harper.
Because Clark’s office routinely uses Proffitt in sexual assault investigations, he recused himself from the case. That’s when Staubus’ office was appointed to handle it, and he asked the TBI get involved.
During the course of the TBI investigation, Earhart said agents determined Proffitt disclosed confidential information to a relative of the suspect in the initial rape investigation.
The relative, Alicia May, 53, was also charged.
According to Earhart, further investigation revealed that both Proffitt and May concealed and destroyed evidence related to the rape investigation.
Last week, a Washington County grand jury returned indictments charging both women with six counts of unlawful disclosure of confidential sex abuse information, two counts of tampering with evidence and one count of criminal conspiracy to tamper with evidence.
Proffitt and May were arrested Wednesday and booked into the Washington County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond each. Both were released on bond. Reporting for last week’s grand jury is April 6.
In an emailed statement Wednesday, a MSHA spokeswoman said Proffitt had been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation and hospital officials were “actively cooperating with law enforcement as appropriate.” Proffitt worked on call as a sexual assault nurse examiner to conduct examinations as needed. Such nurses are trained in the medical, psychological and forensic examination of a sexual assault victim.
Proffitt obtained her examiner certification in 2006, according to the International Association of Forensic Nurses. She is certified in both adult and pediatric examinations and is one of seven sexual assault nurse examiner nurses in MSHA system.
Texas sex offender facing new allegations of child abuse, domestic violence
Patrick Johnston, Times Record News
A registered sex offender is back behind bars after a 14-year-old girl made several allegations of sexual abuse.
Micky Dawn Wade, 34, is also accused of knocking his wife unconscious after she refused to give him her new Facebook password.
Wade is charged with continuous assault family violence, compelling prostitution of a child and five counts of sexual assault of a child.
His total bail was set at just over $1.2 million, and he remained in the Wichita County Jail Wednesday morning.
According to arrest warrant affidavits on the child sex crimes:
In February of 2017, an investigation was opened regarding Wade possibly engaging in sexual contact with an underage female.
Wade was arrested on Sept. 7 on charges of failure to comply with registration requirements following allegations of online solicitation of a minor and possession of child pornography made against him.
During the "extensive investigation," an additional underage girl was identified by possibly involved people in interviews. The girl was 14 when the alleged sexual acts occurred in Wichita Falls. Wade spoke with detectives on Sept. 7 and denied having any communications or contact with the girl at all.
The girl made disclosures to a family member before she was located and later forensically interviewed on Oct. 4. During the forensic interview, the girl disclosed information consistent with multiple sexual acts between her and a man she identified as Wade. She also positively identified him in a photo lineup.
The girl said about two months before that summer began, Wade offered her money to have sex with him. She told the interviewer that he gave her $20 and some McDonald's food after multiple sexual acts occurred in his truck. She said he then took her home.
During a follow-up interview, the girl was able to direct detectives to the specific locations the sexual acts occurred. Wade was charged with five separate counts of sexual assault due to several sexual acts that the girl alleged occurred.
He was also arrested on Jan. 7, 2018, for assault family violence in connection to a Nov. 4, 2017 incident at his residence in the 2100 block of Taylor Street.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit for that offense:
In that case, a woman claimed she had been physically assaulted by her husband. When police arrived to the scene, they saw blood coming from the woman's face and blood on a bed.
The woman, who is deaf, told officers Wade got angry with her because she had changed the password to her Facebook and he wanted to get on her account. When she refused to give him the new password, she said he followed her in the bedroom and began punching her in the face until she lost consciousness on the bed.
The woman said she immediately called police when she came to again. She said Wade fled the scene on foot when he realized she contacted officers.
Photos taken by officers at the scene showed blood on the woman's face that appeared to come from her nose and swelling in her cheek. She said she felt pain and was taken to United Regional Health Care System by ambulance for treatment.
A records check showed Wade had been arrested on March 30, 2017 for assaulting the same woman, and Oct. 12, 2016, in which he was listed as the suspect and her as the victim. In the October case, no arrest had been made yet.
His criminal history also showed he a registered sex offender, which stemmed from an Oct. 6, 2002 incident when he was 19 years old that he later entered a guilty plea for on Aug. 7, 2003.
According to court documents filed in the case:
Wade was sentenced to 12 years in prison with 284 days served after he pleaded guilty to indecency with a child.
In an writ of habeas corpus to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals (COCA), Wade alleged the plea was "not made voluntarily with the understanding of the charge and the consequences."
Wade stated in the document that he was not properly medicated for his attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), which he felt made him not competent or aware of the consequences of signing the documents. He also claimed he was coerced into confessing to police and the prosecution failed to disclose to the defendant "that the 'victim' consented and lied about her age."
That writ was denied by the COCA, along with several other similar writs of habeas corpus prepared by Wade seeking relief from his final felony conviction in the case.
In later documents filed on Jan. 23, 2004, Wade claimed his defense attorney was ineffective and coerced him into accepting the plea deal. He requested a time cut on May 12, 2004 and a sentence reduction on March 18, 2005. Those were also denied.
In July of 2013, Wade asked for permission to appeal the conviction based on the claim of innocence. Wade claimed he had not wanted to accept a plea agreement and wanted to go to trial, but his attorney was "unprepared to try the case."
In Wade's summary of the facts of the case, he stated the victim was 12 years old, but her parents knew of the relationship with him. He claimed the victim went to his residence and had consensual sex with him.
There is no such thing as consensual sex with a 12 year old!
When the victim told her friends she was "no longer a virgin," one of the girls told her parents and an investigation by police was opened. He claimed she didn't want to prosecute and refused to sign a pseudonym for sexual assault survivor form.
Wade was released from prison on April 30, 2014, after he served his sentence. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety Sex Offender Registry, Wade was considered a moderate risk level.
Texas man facing additional child sexual abuse charges
Patrick Johnston, Times Record News
A 33-year-old man is facing additional child sexual abuse charges after a second victim has made allegations.
Rusty Lyle White has been in the Wichita County Jail since Sept. 28 for indecency with a child and attorney off bond – aggravated sexual assault of a child.
He was served arrest warrants on Monday for the offenses of aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child stemming from the second victim.
According to the affidavits on the new charges:
According to a probable cause affidavit:
On Sept. 12, Wichita Falls police were called to the 4300 block of Cunningham Drive for a possible sexual assault of a child.
The woman told responding officers she walked into the master bedroom of the house and observed White sitting on the edge of the bed with his shorts and underwear around his ankles.
She said the victim, a 5-year-old girl, was on her knees in front of White performing sexual acts on him.
White was interviewed by detectives and, after waiving his rights, admitted the victim performed sexual acts on him. He said the child had been curious and began asking questions about his genitals. He told the detectives he became aroused and later made the victim perform sexual acts on him.
The victim was forensically interviewed at Patsy's House Child Advocacy Center on Sept. 13. She confirmed many details of the sexual abuse that White admitted to happening.
She also mentioned to the interviewer that she had witnessed White sexually abuse her 8-year-old sister.
The second girl was also forensically interviewed at Patsy's House that day but didn't make an outcry of abuse. The girl later disclosed to a school counselor on Nov. 30 that White had sexually abused her in the past.
On Dec. 27, the girl was interviewed again at the child advocacy center. During that interview, the girl made statements that White had made her perform sexual acts on him and made her touch his genitals.
She gave details of the sexual abuse that an 8-year-old child would not and should not know unless they experienced it, the detective stated.
The girl said the abuse happened at a residence in the 3000 block of Lebanon Road and later in the 4300 block of Cunningham Drive.
When she was questioned about why she didn't talk of the abuse during the first forensic interview, the girl said she was scared to tell.
Victim speaks out as man twice convicted of child sex abuse nears prison release
One Survivor's Story
Matt Mencarini, Lansing State Journal
LANSING, Michigan - Less than 10 years after he was sentenced for raping a child over the course of several years, Gary Gutman was granted parole and a release from prison.
His release will come against the urging of the Ingham County Prosecuting Attorney's Office and Emily Fayyad, whom Gutman pleaded guilty to abusing.
And his release from incarceration in Michigan will come nearly 11 years after he was released from a Virginia prison, at the end of a 10-year sentence for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy in the 1990s.
The news of that July 2007 release is what prompted Fayyad, a former East Lansing resident, to go to police. She told them about the abuse that happened in the early 1980s, when Gutman was her stepfather.
In March 2008, Gutman was arrested in Virginia and extradited to East Lansing. He was charged with four counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a person younger than 13. And nine months later, after Fayyad testified against him, Gutman was sentenced to prison once again.
"I felt like this was the only way to stop him," Fayyad told the State Journal recently. "I felt like I owed it to the other victims, too, to speak up because they were affected because I couldn’t come forward. I was unable to, emotionally. I felt a sense of responsibility. And I feel a sense of responsibility now."
The State Journal doesn't typically identify sexual assault victims, but Fayyad reached out to newspaper and wanted to tell her story, and to be identified because she felt it would help increase community awareness of Gutman's release.
Fayyad spoke about the lasting trauma from her abuse, her "crusade of preventing child abuse" that led to her advocacy work and the parole process, which forced her to relive the trauma as Gutman went before the parole board three times.
Gutman, now 69, declined to be interviewed by the State Journal for this story, according to a Michigan Department of Corrections spokeswoman.
"I will pray that he doesn’t reoffend," Fayyad said of Gutman's upcoming release. "But it’s going to be with the help of the community."
'A blessing for me'
Fayyad, now in her 40s, sat in an East Lansing courtroom in 2008 and testified about how, when she was between the ages of 7 and 13, Gutman sexually abused her.
She testified, in detail, about where it happened and what Gutman did to her. She testified about how he isolated her from her siblings, and about the lasting trauma from the abuse.
The abuse lasted from about 1980 through 1984, beginning when Fayyad lived in East Lansing and Gutman was her stepfather. The family eventually left Michigan and moved to Corpus Christi, Texas. Gutman and Fayyad's mother divorced while the family lived in Texas, and Fayyad, her mother and siblings moved back to Michigan. This is when the abuse ended.
"I had periods of time when I didn't want to get up," Fayyad testified. "I didn't want to go to school. I didn't want to do anything."
It took her years to fully realize that what did Gutman was sexual assault.
And then came the news that Gutman had done to someone else what he had done to her. She reached out to the East Lansing Police Department and spoke with Det. James Phelps, who's now a detective sergeant and at the time handled many of the department's sexual assault cases.
"I had contact with his parole agent (in Virginia) at the time I was investigating this and she believed that he would reoffend," Phelps told the State Journal. "Talking to his past victims and to the mothers of the victims that he also abused, I would say Gary Gutman would be the definition of a sexual predator, a deviant."
Phelps went to work investigating Gutman. He interviewed to Fayyad and her mother, and was able to corroborate details and take the case to prosecutors.
Much of the investigation hinged on where Gutman lived after he and Fayyad's family moved to Texas. If Gutman had returned to live in Michigan, the case would have ended without charges, the statute of limitations barring prosecution. But Phelps collected evidence to show that Gutman hadn't returned to live in Michigan, which stopped the clock on the statute of limitations.
In March 2008, Gutman, a former high school principal in Virginia, was formally charged in Michigan.
The following month, Fayyad showed up to an East Lansing courthouse to testify.
"I was young and I was little and remember him being a big, huge monster," she told the State Journal of her thoughts on seeing Gutman in court for the first time since the abuse ended.
"And seeing him in the orange jumpsuit and shackled, it was something I needed. It was a blessing for me. A miracle. To see him suffer in the way that he made me suffer. This isolated me from my family."
'I feel at peace'
Coming forward and reporting Gutman to police helped, but it didn't erase the trauma. Her therapy continued and eventually led her to becoming an advocate, something she said helped her transform from a victim to a survivor.
In 2015, she began working with Darkness to Light, a national nonprofit that provides training and education in an effort to prevent child sexual abuse. She's done work with the organization in Ingham Counry, she said, and will continue her work with Darkness to Light as an instructor for child abuse prevention classes.
It's work that's given her a different perspective on what happened to her. Her therapy helped her compartmentalize, which helps her to speak about and handle the trauma.
In late 2008, having already testified against Gutman once, Fayyad was preparing to do it yet again, when he took a plea deal. He pleaded guilty to three first-degree criminal sexual conduct charges and was ultimately sentenced to 10 to 44 years in prison.
Gutman, with short black hair and a graying beard, spoke briefly at his sentencing. "I'm very remorseful for the harm I caused to Emily and her family," he told the judge." I accept full responsibility for my actions."
He's been eligible for early release in past years as a result of good behavior in state prison. Each time the parole board denied his release, until late last year.
In June, Ingham County Prosecuting Attorney Carol Siemon, who wasn't in her current position when Gutman was convicted, urged the parole board to once again deny Gutman's release, saying his "talent for manipulation and deceit" allowed him to abuse children for years.
"One of his victims reports six years of abuse; horrific and repeated acts of violation, by an adult who was supposed to have been caring for that child — beginning at age six," she wrote. "It is our belief that the offender Mr. Gutman remains a public safety threat, and that there is a strong probability that he would continue to sexually abuse children upon his release."
Fayyad reached out to the State Journal, in part, to make the community aware of Gutman's release, which is scheduled for February. For a while, she was working to appeal the parole board decision, but wasn't able to do so.
She said fact that he'll have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, and check with local law enforcement every three months, has helped.
"I can't fight forever," Fayyad said. "I must move on. I don’t know if I’ll ever have total closure, but I feel more at peace."

Former Kentucky youth pastor sentenced for
child sexual abuse charges
Posted by Sarah Hager,
A former northern Kentucky pastor will spend the next 20 years behind bars after prosecutors say he raped a child he was caring for.
Joseph Niemeyer, 56, appeared in court Tuesday for sentencing on three counts of felony sexual abuse, rape, and sodomy.
"When she went into the defendants custody. She went into his custody because she was looking for a safe home to live in. In the 4 years she was in his custody. He sodomized her, raped her and sexual abused her. This was a child that was 5-years-old." said Lawrence Hilton, Assistant Commonwealth Attorney.
Niemeyer pleaded guilty (4th story on link) on Nov. 20 to four counts of first-degree sexual abuse and one count first-degree sodomy against the girl.
Under the plea agreement, Niemeyer will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and must serve 17 years before being parole eligible, according to Kenton County Prosecutor Rob Sanders.
Niemeyer worked with youth at the Banklick Baptist Church in Walton until he was arrested in February 2016. He also volunteered at Twenhofel Middle School.
Police say they were alerted to the abuse after Niemeyer came forward last year and reported himself to officers.

Detectives began investigating these allegations in October 2017 after a victim notified FPD of the sexual abuse. Police allege the suspect, Glenn Collins, 51, had sexually abused four different children between 1996 and 2008 while he was a pastor at a church in east Fayetteville.
Collins has been charged with the following:
• 12 counts of 1st Degree Rape
• 5 counts of 1st Degree Sexual Offense
• 5 counts of 2nd Degree Rape
• 3 counts of 2nd Degree Sexual Offense
• 9 counts of Statutory Rape
• 6 counts of Statutory Sexual Offense
• 32 counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child
• 25 counts of Child Sexual – Sexual Activity
• 39 counts of Sexual Activity by a Parent
• 2 counts of Crimes Against Nature
• 2 counts of Sexual Battery
• 1 count of Attempted 2nd Degree Sexual Offense

Collins was apprehended Monday evening and is being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center on $3.75 million secured bond.
Court records show Collins had three prior arrests for assault on a female, and two of those cases were dismissed. On a third charge he pleaded no contest, which is not legally an admission of guilt, in 1995. In that case a judge issued a prayer for judgment verdict, which is a form of judicial mercy that some lawyers say are usually used for traffic violations and some misdemeanors. ???????
Alabama man accused of child sex abuse
By Amalia Kortright
COLUMBIANA – A local man was recently taken into custody by the Harpersville Police Department after he allegedly sexually abused a child younger than 12 years old.
Justin Ray Shockley, 30, who lists an address on Knox Street in Harpersville, was arrested and charged with sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12 on Monday, Jan. 8. His bond for two previous charges was also revoked. Court documents allege that Shockley subjected an underage victim to sexual contact on Sept. 8, 2017.
Before his January arrest, Shockley was out on bond for the charges of domestic violence assault in the second degree and domestic violence strangulation.
He's charged with strangulation and he's out on bail????!!!
A protection from abuse petition filed from the victim’s guardian in October 2017 alleged that Shockley “tortured or willfully abused” the victim and assaulted the guardian.
Sexual abuse of a child under 12 years old, second-degree domestic violence assault and domestic violence strangulation are all Class B felonies. If convicted, Shockley could face between two and 20 years in prison.
As of Tuesday, Jan. 9, Shockley remained at the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $35,000. Shockley’s case was assigned to Shelby County District Court Judge Daniel A. Crowson, and he is set to appear in court on Jan. 11.
Details emerge in Arizona Sheriff’s deputy
arrest for child sex abuse charges
BY TAYLOR HARTMAN
MESA, Ariz. – Details have emerged in the case where a Utah County Sheriff’s Deputy was arrested for alleged sexual contact with a minor.
According to a news release made by the Mesa, Arizona Police Department, 63-year-old Gerald Salcido was arrested in connection to a cold case from 1995.
“The original 1995 case went cold when detectives did not have enough evidence to move forward with the molestation charges. Two juvenile victims had reported being molested by Salcido ten years prior in Mesa. In September 2017, a new witness came forward causing the case to be re-opened,” police said.
With new information, Mesa Police Detectives said they conducted follow-up interviews in Utah. As a result of the follow-ups, detectives said they received enough information to submit criminal charges, which were three counts of sexual conduct with a minor, a class two felony in Arizona.
“The case was accepted and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Salcido was arrested and booked in Utah, pending extradition back to Arizona for the charges,” police stated. “Crimes against children are one of the highest priorities for the Mesa Police Department. This is a great example of someone coming forward with new information leading to the arrest of a dangerous sexual predator many years later. This shows that decades after a crime, one piece of information can solve a case.”
Before moving to Utah and working at the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, Salcido was employed as an Officer for the Mesa Police Department from 1980-1986.
Bond set at $250,000 for Texas man charged in
child sexual abuse case

TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) A Temple man who was arrested a day after his 40th birthday on charges stemming from the sexual abuse of a 12-year-old boy was jailed Tuesday in lieu of $250,000 bond.
Raymundo Toledo is charged with indecency with a child with sexual contact and is also held on an immigration detainer, according to Bell County Jail records.
He was arrested Monday on a warrant stemming from an investigation that started in May after the boy’s mother reported that a family friend had sexually assaulted her son, an arrest affidavit says.
The sexual assaults started in September 2012 and occurred “at multiple other times,” the affidavit said.

An East St. Louis man has been accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl, according to charges filed Wednesday.
Melvin L. Price, 23, was charged Wednesday with four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated predatory criminal sexual assault.
He allegedly assaulted the girl between May and November 2017, according to charges. If convicted, he could be sentenced to anywhere from six to 60 years in prison for each sex-assault charge.
As of Wednesday evening, Price had not been taken into police custody. He has a pending obstructing identification charge from May 2017, but he otherwise has no prior criminal history in St. Clair County.
