The jury in a B.C. Supreme Court trial of a man charged with harassing and extorting teenager Amanda Todd has now reached a verdict.
It took less than two days to reach a guilty verdict for five charges.
A brief pause for the jury occurred on Saturday afternoon, as there were questions for counsel, who were summoned back into the courtroom.
The jury reached their verdict only two hours after the break.
Aydin Coban, (World Class Creep) 44, pleaded not guilty to five charges, including possession of child pornography, extortion, criminal harassment and communication with a young person to commit a sexual offence.
The jury found him guilty on all five counts.
Justice Martha Devlin provided instructions to the jury before deliberations began, telling them to take “special care” with the statements given by Amanda Todd before her death.
Devlin said because Todd died in October 2012 and therefore did not testify or face cross-examination by Aydin Coban’s lawyers, the jury needs to be aware of the limitations of evidence given.
Jury members were told to carefully examine the statements Todd gave to her parents, police officers and in her electronic communications when they considered Coban’s verdict.
The trial hinged on the identity of what the Crown has called the “sextortionist” that used 22 online aliases to sexually blackmail Todd over four “episodes” before she took her life in 2012.
The Crown’s theory is built on two propositions: that one person operated all of the accounts, and that the one person is Coban.
However, defence lawyer Joseph Saulnier told the 12-member jury that evidence from the two drives tells a different story.
Facebook records for several of the aliases presented at trial showed the extortionist using operating systems and Internet browsers through 2012 and into late 2013 that were not found on either hard drive, he told the court.
“This is a significant hole in Crown’s theory,” he said. “This is actually evidence of people accessing these Facebook accounts from other devices, from other computers … evidence of other people using these Facebook accounts.”
The trial heard evidence Coban worked as a “computer guy,” who repaired computers and replaced hard drives.
The Crown has argued Coban was the sole owner and operator of the two hard drives, and that while he may have had a job “swapping out hard drives,” it wouldn’t explain their repeated connection to other devices he owned.
“The evidence was not just that Mr. Coban had only swapped out hard drives and that’s all he did… he repaired computers, he was a computer guy,” Saulnier said.
“It does make sense that Mr. Coban, if he’s looking at someone else’s device, he’s going to connect it to something.”
Todd was 15 years old when she died by suicide in 2012 after posting a video that described being tormented by an online harasser. Since her death, millions of people have watched the video.
Coban was extradited from the Netherlands to Canada in 2020.

UK: Police watchdog claims it can’t figure out why cops
dropped investigation into Muslim rape gangs
AUG 8, 2022 4:00 PM
BY ROBERT SPENCER
The reason why is blazingly obvious: it was fear of charges of “racism” and “Islamophobia” that led British authorities to allow the Muslim rape gangs to continue operating with impunity. And now it is those same fears of charges of “racism” and “Islamophobia” that led the IOPC to be unable to figure out why the investigation was dropped. British officials know who their new master are, and they’re determined not to anger them.
The answer was obvious back in 2015 from several blog posts. Here is just one of them.
“It’s a Mystery: Police Watchdog Claims It Can’t Find Out
Why Cops Dropped Investigation Into ‘Asian’ Rape Gangs,”
by Jack Montgomery, Breitbart,
August 6, 2022:
The official police watchdog has claimed, after two years of investigation, that is has been unable to find out why Greater Manchester Police (GMP) dropped an inquiry into ‘Asian’ rape gangs that identified almost 100 suspects.
The Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC), which is supposed to invigilate law enforcement in England and Wales, launched an investigation into three Mancunian officers following the publication of a grooming gangs inquiry commissioned by city mayor Andy Burnham which — like other inquiries before it — found that council officials, social workers, and police officers had failed the mostly white victims of mostly Muslim, South Asian heritage grooming gang rapists, in part due to politically correct fears around the issue.
However, the watchdog has now discontinued its investigations into the trio, referred to them by GMP after the Burnham-ordered inquiry, and claimed it has been “unable to determine” why a police inquiry into grooming gangs, Operation Augusta, was shut down despite having identified 57 victims and 97 potential suspects.
“Despite significant efforts, we were unable to determine who took the final decision to close Operation Augusta in July 2005, nor the rationale for doing so,” the IOPC said of the inquiry, which was launched in 2004 after 15-year-old rape gang victim Victoria Agoglia, who reported being sexually abused and injected with heroin to the authorities but was not helped, died of an overdose.
Steve Noonan, Director of Major Investigations at the IOPC, said that his organisation had “gathered and reviewed a significant amount of evidence, which helped us understand some of the actions taken” but that, ultimately, they were “not able to locate evidence showing who took the decision to close Operation Augusta and, more importantly, why."
The simple solution is to charge the highest ranking person that was in charge of the investigation. If he isn't responsible, he will probably reveal who is. But that's not going to happen as we have yet another British police whitewash. It seems British cops and politicians have a really low regard for their constituents, and absolutely no regard for young British white girls.
Surely, nobody can be that stupid that they can't figure out why the inquiry was shut down. It seems everyone in the world knows except the police.
Indeed, Breitbart London contacted the then-five contenders to succeed Boris Johnson as Tory leader and Prime Minister in July after Labour councillors blocked a call from Tory councillors for an inquiry into grooming gangs in Oldham to ask if they would commission one, and not one of them responded.
