The jury in a B.C. Supreme Court trial of a man charged with harassing and extorting teenager Amanda Todd has now reached a verdict.

It took less than two days to reach a guilty verdict for five charges.

A brief pause for the jury occurred on Saturday afternoon, as there were questions for counsel, who were summoned back into the courtroom.

The jury reached their verdict only two hours after the break.

Aydin Coban, (World Class Creep) 44, pleaded not guilty to five charges, including possession of child pornography, extortion, criminal harassment and communication with a young person to commit a sexual offence.

The jury found him guilty on all five counts.

Justice Martha Devlin provided instructions to the jury before deliberations began, telling them to take “special care” with the statements given by Amanda Todd before her death.

Devlin said because Todd died in October 2012 and therefore did not testify or face cross-examination by Aydin Coban’s lawyers, the jury needs to be aware of the limitations of evidence given.

Jury members were told to carefully examine the statements Todd gave to her parents, police officers and in her electronic communications when they considered Coban’s verdict.

The trial hinged on the identity of what the Crown has called the “sextortionist” that used 22 online aliases to sexually blackmail Todd over four “episodes” before she took her life in 2012.

The Crown’s theory is built on two propositions: that one person operated all of the accounts, and that the one person is Coban.

Aydin Coban, (World Class Creep)
However, defence lawyer Joseph Saulnier told the 12-member jury that evidence from the two drives tells a different story.

Facebook records for several of the aliases presented at trial showed the extortionist using operating systems and Internet browsers through 2012 and into late 2013 that were not found on either hard drive, he told the court.

“This is a significant hole in Crown’s theory,” he said. “This is actually evidence of people accessing these Facebook accounts from other devices, from other computers … evidence of other people using these Facebook accounts.”

The trial heard evidence Coban worked as a “computer guy,” who repaired computers and replaced hard drives.

The Crown has argued Coban was the sole owner and operator of the two hard drives, and that while he may have had a job “swapping out hard drives,” it wouldn’t explain their repeated connection to other devices he owned.

“The evidence was not just that Mr. Coban had only swapped out hard drives and that’s all he did… he repaired computers, he was a computer guy,” Saulnier said.

“It does make sense that Mr. Coban, if he’s looking at someone else’s device, he’s going to connect it to something.”

Todd was 15 years old when she died by suicide in 2012 after posting a video that described being tormented by an online harasser. Since her death, millions of people have watched the video.

Coban was extradited from the Netherlands to Canada in 2020.

UK: Police watchdog claims it can’t figure out why cops

dropped investigation into Muslim rape gangs

AUG 8, 2022 4:00 PM
BY ROBERT SPENCER

The reason why is blazingly obvious:  it was fear of charges of “racism” and “Islamophobia” that led British authorities to allow the Muslim rape gangs to continue operating with impunity. And now it is those same fears of charges of “racism” and “Islamophobia” that led the IOPC to be unable to figure out why the investigation was dropped. British officials know who their new master are, and they’re determined not to anger them.

The answer was obvious back in 2015 from several blog posts. Here is just one of them.

“It’s a Mystery: Police Watchdog Claims It Can’t Find Out

Why Cops Dropped Investigation Into ‘Asian’ Rape Gangs,”

by Jack Montgomery, Breitbart,
August 6, 2022:

The official police watchdog has claimed, after two years of investigation, that is has been unable to find out why Greater Manchester Police (GMP) dropped an inquiry into ‘Asian’ rape gangs that identified almost 100 suspects.

The Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC), which is supposed to invigilate law enforcement in England and Wales, launched an investigation into three Mancunian officers following the publication of a grooming gangs inquiry commissioned by city mayor Andy Burnham which — like other inquiries before it — found that council officials, social workers, and police officers had failed the mostly white victims of mostly Muslim, South Asian heritage grooming gang rapists, in part due to politically correct fears around the issue.

However, the watchdog has now discontinued its investigations into the trio, referred to them by GMP after the Burnham-ordered inquiry, and claimed it has been “unable to determine” why a police inquiry into grooming gangs, Operation Augusta, was shut down despite having identified 57 victims and 97 potential suspects.

“Despite significant efforts, we were unable to determine who took the final decision to close Operation Augusta in July 2005, nor the rationale for doing so,”
the IOPC said of the inquiry, which was launched in 2004 after 15-year-old rape gang victim Victoria Agoglia, who reported being sexually abused and injected with heroin to the authorities but was not helped, died of an overdose.

Steve Noonan, Director of Major Investigations at the IOPC, said that his organisation had “gathered and reviewed a significant amount of evidence, which helped us understand some of the actions taken” but that, ultimately, they were “not able to locate evidence showing who took the decision to close Operation Augusta and, more importantly, why."

The simple solution is to charge the highest ranking person that was in charge of the investigation. If he isn't responsible, he will probably reveal who is. But that's not going to happen as we have yet another British police whitewash. It seems British cops and politicians have a really low regard for their constituents, and absolutely no regard for young British white girls.

Surely, nobody can be that stupid that they can't figure out why the inquiry was shut down. It seems everyone in the world knows except the police.

Indeed, Breitbart London contacted the then-five contenders to succeed Boris Johnson as Tory leader and Prime Minister in July after Labour councillors blocked a call from Tory councillors for an inquiry into grooming gangs in Oldham to ask if they would commission one, and not one of them responded.

How brave boy, 7, helped take down evil nursery worker paedo

after exposing his sick crimes

Elsa Buchanan
Scottish Sun

A SEVEN-year-old boy has been praised for exposing the horrific abuse of a sick paedo who worked at a private childcare centre.

Bronte John Ciracovitch, 35, was handed a 14 year sentence on Wednesday - of which he must serve at least 11.

The dad-of-three worked for the non-government childcare centre Child Care Services Australia, which runs five facilities.

He had worked at the childcare centre in Adelaide's nothern suburbs for at least eight years.

The paedophile was arrested in 2020 after one of his victims, a brave seven-year-old, told his mother about what had happened to him, claiming that Ciracovitch had abused him on three separate occasions.

"That boy's mother correctly describes him as a hero in this story, he had the courage to expose you," Judge Tim Heffernan said, reports The Adelaide Advertiser.

"Your offending only stopped because [that boy] had the courage to tell his mother what you were doing," he added.

The sex offender was unmasked in March 2021 after the Adelaide Magistrates Court found that there were no reasons to keep his name and image suppressed.

Following Ciracovitch's arrest, police contacted 180 families whose children went to the centre in north Adelaide to alert them about the allegations against the childcare worker, in order to build a case.

"My stomach just dropped... I was just like no it can't be," one parent told Seven News about the moment he found out about Ciracovitch's arrest.

"I felt utterly sick, I felt betrayed... I will never, ever trust again. [My son] attended the centre when he turned one and he left as soon as I found out about what happened and the arrest."

The offender pleaded guilty to multiple child abuse and child exploitation charges, but begged the Adelaide District Court for a reduced sentence.

The court hearing some offences occurred at the childcare centre, while the paedo also carried out his vile attacks in his house, including of a four-year-old boy which was filmed on a mobile by his boyfriend.

In another case, Ciracovitch pleaded guilty to maintaining an unlawful sexual relationship with a child in October 2021, but had previously also pleaded guilty to producing or taking steps to produce child exploitation material.

At the time, he also pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing child exploitation material

Ciracovitch remained in custody until he was handed a 14-year old sentence this week.

At the sentencing on Wednesday, however, Judge Heffernan highlighted how Ciracovitch had not apologised to his victims or their families.

The judge also noted that the perv had earlier tried to downplay his responsibility.

"Notwithstanding your pleas of guilty, I sentence you on the basis you have only limited remorse and insight into your conduct... I regard you as a danger to the community," Judge Heffernan said.

Rockley, meanwhile, has pleaded guilty to allegedly related charges and will stand trial at a later date.

I have no idea who Rockley is, perhaps Ciracovitch's boyfriend. Or, maybe there's a translation problem between Australian and Scottish?

A WOMAN was gang-raped by a five men on a Tinder date after agreeing to meet a man only to be attacked by him and four others.

The horror act allegedly took place at the 22-year-old woman's home in Sydney, Australia.

She had invited the unnamed man over on April 16 when another four turned up and sexually assaulted her, cops have alleged, according to Aussie media outlet 7 News.

On Friday, detectives arrested a 24-year-old man and charged him with six counts of aggravated sexual assault in the company of others. He was refused bail to attend court.

A 19-year-old man was also arrested and charged with two counts of sexual assault. He was granted conditional bail to attend court.

Cops are still searching for the other three men involved in the alleged incident.

Sex crimes chief detective Jayne Doherty said the woman had built a relationship with the man online.

When she invited him over, he arrived with the other four men not far behind him, it's alleged.

"They [allegedly] arrived a short time after he arrived at the premises," Doherty said.

"We are looking into the identity of the other persons present during that and their exact roles in those [alleged] offences."

Dutch police installed covert microphones and cameras

Court hears police in the Netherlands secretly searched residence

a month before Aydin Coban was arrested

Aydin Coban is shown in photographs from the time of his arrest, entered into an exhibit at his trial in B.C. Supreme Court. The 44-year-old has pleaded not guilty to extortion, possession of child pornography and child luring in relation to the cyberbullying of Amanda Todd. (B.C. Supreme Court)

A Dutch police officer testified Monday about leading a team of investigators who mounted a covert operation to install microphones and video cameras in a residence linked to the man accused of sextorting Amanda Todd.

Chief Insp. Joerie van Schiandel said he and three other officers entered the rural holiday bungalow in December 2013, a month before Aydin Coban's arrest, taking care to ensure no one was home when they walked through the front door.

He said they installed microphones and cameras and made copies of the contents of computers and hard drives over the course of two days — all under the scrutiny of a judge, who watched them make their way through the residence via a secure video and audio link.

In dramatic testimony, van Schiandel — who now leads the Dutch national police force's digital intrusion team — said he was also part of the surveillance team that kept tabs on Coban from a nearby location over the next month.

He returned with two of his officers to the bungalow on Jan. 13, 2014 to arrest the suspect.

'We went through the front door'

Crown prosecutors say police in the Netherlands were crucial in linking Coban to an array of social media accounts used to harass Amanda Todd, who died by suicide at the age of 15.

The 44-year-old has pleaded not guilty to five criminal charges, including extortion, possession of child pornography and child luring. He is not charged with Todd's death.

Van Schiandel was one of three Dutch investigators to testify Monday.

He described the arrest in detail, saying he and two plainclothes colleagues had planned to handcuff Coban as he sat behind the screen of his computer in one of the bungalow's two bedrooms.

But things didn't work out exactly as they hoped.

"It was a silent entry. We went through the front door," van Schiandel said.

The officer said Coban emerged from the bedroom to go to the bathroom as police stood in the hallway.

"There was a mirror in the hallway. Through the mirror you could see him coming, and he could probably also see from his point of view the police officers standing in the living room," van Schiandel said.

Van Schiandel said the arrest started in the hallway, but moved into another bedroom as his men struggled to control Coban. The officer said the suspect cut his right eye on a radiator before he was handcuffed.

Once they had Coban under control, van Schiandel said the men blindfolded him and stuck headphones over his ears so that he could not see the police officers removing the microphones and video cameras that had been hidden in the home.

A prosecutor asked van Schiandel if he could identify the man he had arrested.

He turned to his left and looked directly at the prisoner's box before pointing at Coban.

Face-to-face with accused

Earlier Monday, Insp. Sjaak Meerveld described Coban's appearance as they sat opposite each other during 10 hours of interviews conducted in January 2014 after the arrest.

Meerveld said he was a tactical investigator with the child exploitation team when he met Coban at a "complex for arrested persons" in the province of Utrecht.

A Dutch police investigator identified this picture taken from a passport photo as depicting Aydin Coban. The picture was entered into evidence in relation to a man who two witnesses knew as 'Jay.' (B.C. Supreme Court)

He said he and another officer sat across a table from Coban, who was given a transcript of their conversation at the end of every meeting.

"Mr. Coban had light-coloured skin, long straight hair, black with a little bit of grey," Meerveld said.

"I have seen him both with a light beard and a little bit of stubble, but also clean shaven."

Coban is now clean shaven, with grey hair slicked back to a point just above the open-necked collar of the untucked, dark coloured shirts he wears each day.

The Crown prosecutor who questioned Meerveld did not ask the officer what they talked about during the interviews.

Meerveld also identified Coban from a passport photograph entered into the trial as an exhibit during testimony from earlier witnesses.

Two women testified last week about their separate attempts to rent an apartment in Rotterdam from a man they knew as "Jay" who provided them with rental contracts that included a passport page containing the photograph of the man Meerveld recognized as Coban.

Extorted into so-called 'sex-shows'

Crown prosecutors claim Coban began communicating with Amanda Todd in 2009 after coming into possession of images of her exposing her breasts and sticking her hand in her underwear.

During the next three years — when Todd was between the ages of 12 and 15 years old — the prosecution says Coban hid behind 22 fake social media identities to extort Todd into performing so-called "sex shows" in exchange for promises not to share graphic images of her with family, friends and classmates.

Amanda Todd is seen in a photograph entered into evidence at the trial of the man accused of extorting and harassing her. Todd died in October 2012. (B.C. Supreme Court)

Amanda Todd's name has been closely linked with the impacts of cyberbullying ever since a video discovered after her death in October 2012 went viral.

Dutch police witnesses have testified both in person and through a video link from the Netherlands about the two separate searches of the bungalow linked to Coban — both the covert operation mounted by van Schiandel and his colleagues in December 2013 and the search that culminated in his arrest a month later.

Van Schiandel testified that he was involved in a surveillance operation mounted from a nearby bungalow used by Dutch police in the weeks between the first secret search and Coban's arrest.

He said he returned three or four times for three to four hours at a time, and observed only "the defendant, Aydin Coban" going in and out of the residence.

In cross-examination, Coban's lawyers asked one of his friends last week about the accused's attempts to drum up work as a computer repair person, suggesting it was not unusual for him to be in possession of multiple digital devices.

Prosecutors claim Coban was using a neighbour's Wi-Fi to go online, introducing evidence that suggested a router in a nearby home had been accessed by other computers.

Van Schiandel gave evidence about discovering a cable in the home linked to Coban, which he said led from a computer tower to an antenna.

Coban's lawyers have repeatedly questioned whether the trees surrounding the bungalow would have make it difficult to access a Wi-Fi router outside the brick walls of the residence.

The trial is expected to last seven weeks.

5 Years After Amanda Todd's Suicide - Have We Done Anything To Stop Cyber Bullying?

It's was 5 years ago today that 15 y/o Amanda Todd committed suicide after being stalked online by Dutch pervert, Aydin Cobin. I wish I could say that children are being warned now about online predators and about the dangers of sexting.

It's not clear to me that children are being warned that there are many  predators who will happily torture you to death. There are also organized crime centers where there are banks of disgusting people who pretend to be teens and who will manipulate children until they send a nude or semi nude photo and then extort them either for more photos or for money.

They drive kids to steal from their parents, from their friends, from anyone. The children are put under extreme pressure and forced to do things they would never have imagined themselves doing.

Are we telling kids about this in school? Are we telling our kids about this?

video 8:15
The 15-year-old eventually committed suicide in her mother's Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, home on Oct. 10, 2012. Her plea against cyberbullying, filmed a month before her death, went viral.

RCMP in British Columbia were alerted at least five times over the course of nearly two years about the ongoing sexual extortion of Amanda Todd before the teen committed suicide, CBC’s the fifth estate has learned.

RCMP who confirmed an arrest in the Netherlands of a man linked to the online bullying of B.C. teen Amanda Todd and possibly dozens of other victims, say other Canadian children may have been targeted, in a case that is focusing on the suspect's computer.

The National Child Exploitation Co-ordination Centre (NCECC) says the investigation includes suspected victims from Canada and other countries, including the U.S., the U.K. and the Netherlands.

The Dutch man accused of sexually extorting B.C. teenager Amanda Todd online used upwards of 90 screen names to target more than 75 victims around the world.

Todd was tormented online for nearly two years after she flashed a crowd by webcam on a live streaming chat site. An online stalker did a screen capture of that and circulated the image to her family, friends and classmates.

Dutch police arrested Coban in January 2014 in relation to an investigation involving Dutch victims who were harassed online. He was charged with nine offences, including indecent assault and production and dissemination of child pornography.

Three months later, RCMP announced Coban was also facing five charges in B.C., including extortion, internet luring, criminal harassment and the possession and distribution of child pornography in the Todd case.

Coban's trial in the Netherlands is in the pre-motion hearings stage and it was decided he would not be charged in relation to any non-Dutch victims, de Bruin said.

Aydin Coban, 38, was convicted for fraud and blackmail using the internet on Thursday in the Netherlands.

His sentence of 10 years and eight months was the maximum sought by prosecutors. Dutch authorities said the decision was based on Coban's risk to reoffend.

A press release from the Dutch court said Coban "deceived tenants, committed computer intrusion and blackmailed a man online by pretending to be a boy who was looking for sexual contacts."

An investigation by Zembla and the fifth estate revealed Dutch police knew about Coban's alleged activities long before his arrest.

Sought by Norwegian police

The fifth estate has learned that in a separate case, officers in Norway had suspected Coban of blackmailing and threatening a teenage girl — and asked Dutch police to find him.

But they never did – saying there were insufficient grounds for a search.

Around the same time, someone using the name Tyler Boo was tormenting Todd online, and someone named Tyler Cee began blackmailing a young girl in Norway.

Dutch Court Clears Extradition of Amanda Todd's Alleged Cyber Extortionist

Despite the ruling, it remains unclear when Aydin Coban, 38, could stand trial in Canada
CBC News

Amanda Todd of Port Coquitlam, B.C., killed herself In October 2012 after posting a YouTube video saying she was blackmailed by an online predator.

The Dutch Supreme Court has approved the extradition to Canada of a convicted cyber blackmailer who faces charges in the case of B.C. teen Amanda Todd, who killed herself after allegedly being extorted online.

Because of several factors, however, it remains unclear when 38-year-old Aydin Coban could be sent to Canada following Tuesday's ruling.

First, his extradition must be approved by the Dutch security and justice minister.

In addition, Coban was convicted last month by a Dutch court and sentenced to nearly 11 years in prison for online fraud and blackmail of 34 other young women and men.

When asked whether the extradition would come before or after Coban serves his Dutch sentence, prosecution spokesman Wim de Bruin said, "That has not been decided yet."

Furthermore, after Coban's conviction last month, his lawyer, Robert Malewicz, said he planned to appeal the verdict, which could mean a new trial. Malewicz did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment today.

Faces charges in Canada

In Canada, Coban faces a separate trial in the cyber extortion of Amanda, whose story drew global attention to online abuse.

In October 2012, Amanda, who was 15 at the time, took her life after posting a video on YouTube saying she had been blackmailed by someone online.

The RCMP charged Coban in 2014 in relation to the Todd case. The five charges include possession of child pornography, extortion, internet luring, criminal harassment and distribution of child pornography.

Amanda Todd’s Accused Cyberbully Facing 11 Years in Dutch Prison *UPDATED*

UPDATE - 17 March 2017
2nd UPDATE - 28 Jan 2025

Aydin Coban, 38, was convicted for fraud and blackmail using the internet on Thursday in the Netherlands.

His sentence of 10 years and eight months was the maximum sought by prosecutors. Dutch authorities said the decision was based on Coban's risk to reoffend.

A press release from the Dutch court said Coban "deceived tenants, committed computer intrusion and blackmailed a man online by pretending to be a boy who was looking for sexual contacts."

Former lawyer

Coban's lawyer Robert Malewicz didn't specify the grounds on which the latest appeal will be based.

But on Thursday, a former lawyer for Coban said he expected the case would be appealed to the European Court, in part because of the surveillance tools used by investigators.

"In my vision, the court made a mistake by accepting the use of the keylogger. The European Court is very strict when it comes to privacy and I expect that if this case will be handled by the European Court, there will be a whole other outcome," Christian van Dijk wrote to CBC News in an email.

"The question will be if the use of secret surveillance tools by governmental organizations are accepted, and if so, what are the requirements. ... This case will have influence on many other judgments in Europe."

Keyloggers are hardware devices that capture computer keystrokes. They can be used to gather personal information like usernames and passwords by tracking each letter and number pressed on a keyboard.

Amanda Todd case

On Friday, Dan McLaughlin with the B.C. Criminal Justice Branch said that process could "further delay his extradition" to Canada.

Supreme Court confirms 6 year prison sentence for extortion of Amanda Todd

Those in the Netherlands in life threatening danger should immediately dial 112 for emergencies, and anyone suffering from depression or contemplating suicide can call 113 Zelfmoordpreventie at any time by dialing either 113 or 0800-0113, or by visiting 113.nl.

The Supreme Court confirmed that Adyin Coban must serve six years in prison for the extortion of Canadian teen girl Amanda Todd, ultimately leading to her suicide. A Canadian court sentenced him to 13 years in prison, but a Dutch court converted that to 6 years according to the Dutch standards. That conversion will be upheld, the Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday.

That is quite a conversion factor, especially since Canadian sentences are notoriously light.

In 2018, a Dutch court sentenced Coban to 11 years in prison for digitally stalking 33 minor girls and scamming four gay men. Amanda Todd’s extortion and suicide did not form part of this trial. The man was then extradited to Canada in 2020 to stand trial for Todd’s case.

In October 2022, a Canadian court sentenced Coban to 13 years in prison for extorting Amanda Todd. In December 2023, the court in Amsterdam sentenced Coban to six years in prison for the crime, translating the Canadian sentence to Dutch terms. The Dutch Public Prosecution Service (OM) had recommended he serve 4.5 years for extorting the girl. Coban lodged an appeal in cassation with the Supreme Court.

Coban’s lawyers argued that Todd’s case could have been considered part of the Dutch case involving the 33 other girls, citing Article 63 of the Dutch Criminal Code, which regulates the maximum sentence that can be imposed if a person has committed multiple crimes that could have been assessed simultaneously. Coban already got the maximum sentence for extorting the 33 other girls, so the sentence for Todd’s extortion should have been converted to zero days in prison, the lawyer argued.

But like the Amsterdam court, the Supreme Court ruled that Article 64 does not apply to conversion proceedings. “Under the applicable regulations, there is no obligation in conversion proceedings to consider prior convictions in Dutch criminal proceedings for a separate offense,” the Supreme Court said.

Amanda Todd took her own life in 2012 at the age of 15. The Canadian teenager’s suicide made headlines worldwide due to a video she posted online, telling on flashcards how she was convinced to send nudes to a man she thought loved her, and then blackmailed and extorted with them.

Not for his abuse of Amanda - he will be extradited to Canada
to face those charges

an 11-year prison sentence in Europe

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — Dutch prosecutors on Thursday sought the maximum possible sentence – nearly 11 years – for a man charged with cyberbullying dozens of young girls and gay men and who is also wanted in Canada for his alleged involvement in the cyberbullying of B.C. teen Amanda Todd.

In an emotional closing statement, prosecutor Annet Kramer urged judges at a court in Amsterdam to sentence the 38-year-old suspect, Amanda Todd’s accused cyberbully facing 11 years in Dutch prison, to 10 years and eight months in prison, saying he subjected some of his victims to years of emotional abuse.

“To do justice in any way to the gravity of the facts, and the refined way in which the suspect systematically put his own interests far above those of his victims, the prosecution believes that there is no room to impose anything other than the maximum sentence,” Kramer told judges at a high-security Amsterdam courthouse, according to a written copy of her statement.

In Canada, Coban faces a separate trial in the cyberbullying of Todd, a 15-year-old girl who drew global attention to online abuse when she posted a YouTube video recounting her ordeal. She later took her own life.

In that case, Coban faces charges including extortion, possession of child pornography and attempting to lure a child online. A Dutch court has approved the suspect’s extradition following his trial in Amsterdam. He has appealed that decision and denies involvement in any cyber bullying.

Todd brought cyber bullying to mainstream attention in Canada and around the world in 2012 by posting a video in which she told her story with handwritten signs, describing how she was lured by a stranger to expose her breasts on a webcam.

The picture ended up on a Facebook page made by the stranger, to which her friends were added. She was repeatedly bullied, despite changing schools, before finally taking her own life weeks after posting the video

In his Dutch trial, the man faces more than 70 charges linked to the alleged abuse of 34 young girls and five gay men.

Prosecutors allege that the suspect used aliases on online chat sites to portray himself as a woman or boy to befriend his victims. He would persuade them to strip in front of their webcams and then use the images to blackmail them, according to prosecutors, threatening to post the images online if they did not perform more sex acts in front of their webcams.

Kramer used her closing remarks to pay tribute to Todd’s mother, Carol, who watched parts of the trial.

“She works to prevent acts like these and that is important,” Kramer said, according to a written copy of her statement. “This case shows that in no uncertain terms.”

A man suspected of cyberbullying British Columbia teen Amanda Todd before she took her own life can be extradited, a Dutch court ruled following a hearing today in Amsterdam.

But, the court said, Aydin Coban must first stand trial in the Netherlands, where he faces 72 charges not related to Todd, including blackmail and the production and distribution of child pornography.

Authorities in Canada want Coban, 38,  brought to Canada to face five charges in connection with Todd's death.

In October 2012, Todd, a 15-year-old from Port Coquitlam, committed suicide after posting a video on YouTube saying she had been blackmailed by an online predator after exposing her breasts on a webcam.

Coban was arrested in the Netherlands the same year, after an investigation into online harassment involving Dutch victims.

He was eventually charged with extortion, internet luring, criminal harassment, and the possession and distribution of child pornography by the RCMP in the Todd case.

His trial in the Netherlands is due to start in 2017. He has denied harassing Todd or any other wrongdoing.

Hopefully, this will send a shiver down the spine of perverts harassing little girls in other countries.

Dutch will not Charge Pervert Who's Sextortion Led Amanda Todd to Suicide - *UPDATE*

A sad commentary on Dutch justice
Todd committed suicide in 2012 after posting a video saying
she had been blackmailed online
CBC News
Dutch authorities say a man arrested in the Netherlands won't be charged there in connection with the online bullying of B.C. teen Amanda Todd, who committed suicide.

Wim de Bruin, a press officer at the Public Prosecution Service in the Netherlands, told CBC News that Aydin Coban was never officially charged specifically in the case of Todd's death. Coban was only under suspicion of distribution of child porn in Todd's case, de Bruin said.

Aydin Coban - sorry excuse for a
human being (oh, allegedly)
Had 75 other victims - Facebook
Todd, a 15-year-old from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, committed suicide in October 2012 after posting a video on YouTube, in which she said she'd been blackmailed by an online predator after exposing her breasts on a webcam.

The YouTube video was widely shared after Todd's death and prompted a wide
debate about cyberbullying. In it, Todd told the story of how she was lured and
sexually exploited over the internet, and the deep embarrassment and
depression that provoked. (Amanda Todd Legacy Society / CBC)
Coban's trial in the Netherlands is in the pre-motion hearings stage and it was decided he would not be charged in relation to any non-Dutch victims, de Bruin said.

Why? Is it because it is cheaper and easier to ignore the many non-Dutch victims? How can a judge or jury get a sense of just how pathetic this pervert is. I believe there are almost as many victims who's suffering will be ignored by Dutch courts as there are those for whom he will be charged. I think an explanation is the least that is due them. This is a sad commentary on Dutch justice and responsibility.

Coban's lawyer, Christian van Dijk, told CBC News there are 39 alleged victims in total, and that Coban is due in court on Thursday.

De Bruin said Coban could still be extradited to Canada, but he said it is up to Canadian authorities to move on that issue.

Van Dijk said extradition is currently not possible while the case is ongoing in the Netherlands.

Amanda Todd Stood Up to Dutch Pervert Who Targeted At Least 75 Girls

The Dutch man accused of sexually extorting B.C. teenager Amanda Todd online used upwards of 90 screen names to target more than 75 victims around the world, according to a Facebook security report revealed in a new documentary by CBC's the fifth estate.

The fifth estate has also learned Canadian police have opened investigations into 10 of those potential victims here, including that of Amanda Todd.

Warning: the language in the light blue text near the end of this post is a little graphic.

Todd was tormented online for nearly two years after she flashed a crowd by webcam on a live streaming chat site. An online stalker did a screen capture of that and circulated the image to her family, friends and classmates.

The 15-year-old eventually committed suicide in her mother's Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, home on Oct. 10, 2012. Her plea against cyberbullying, filmed a month before her death, went viral.

"An unidentified person ('the suspect'), operating at least 86 forensically linked Facebook accounts under presumably false identities, is responsible for the solicitation, creation and distribution of child exploitation images and videos, as well as the blackmailing of dozens of minor females from around the world," the report states.

The document identifies Todd as one of the suspect's victims, saying the teen committed suicide as a result of the long-term bullying and humiliation.

Amanda Todd video story

"She was targeted by the sextortionist on Facebook, YouTube, several web camera chat sites and other platforms."

Amanda Todd: police alerted to extortion suspect before her suicide

Norwegian police notified Dutch police of a sextortionist who was stalking a Norwegian girl and asked them to investigate in May 2012. That was 5 months before Amanda committed suicide believing that she would never be free of her tormentor.

Had the Dutch police responded to Norway's request, Amanda might still be alive today. But the Dutch police failed to respond then, and failed to respond in December 2012 when they asked again.

A few months after Amanda's suicide, a Dutch girl reported being cyber-stalked to the police. Even then, it was not until September, 2013, before the Dutch police began an investigation, and it was January, 2014, before they made an arrest. How many young girls lives did he destroy in the year and a half since he was first reported to Dutch police?

Amanda Stood Up To Him

Amanda Todd challenged her online stalker in a conversation she had with the Dutch man alleged to have extorted her online, a Facebook security report obtained by CBC's the fifth estate shows.

In one conversation with Todd, the stalker identified online as Tyler Boo writes: "U already forgot who I am? The guy who last year made you change school.

"Give me 3 shows and I will disappear forever. you know I won't stop until you give me those 3 shows."

"Not gonna happen," Todd responds. "Do you wanna meet me? Come me me right now. Or are you too scared?"

Working with the Dutch TV program Zembla, CBC's the fifth estate obtained information from a Facebook report on Todd's alleged stalker that identifies at least four extensive online conversations that took place between the suspect and the B.C. teen. (Watch the full fifth estate documentary Stalking Amanda Todd: The Man in the Shadows on the fifth estate website.)

Earlier this year, B.C. RCMP announced charges against Aydin Coban, a 35-year-old Dutch citizen, in connection with the online sexual extortion of Todd.

In October 2012, the teen from Port Coquitlam committed suicide after posting a video on YouTube saying she had been blackmailed by an online predator after exposing her breasts using a webcam.

In the aftermath of her suicide, Facebook began an investigation of an unidentified person who used different online platforms, including Facebook, to "solicit nude videos and images of minors," as well as to convince young girls to "appear naked during web camera chat sessions."

Target since 2011

Todd was one of those young girls. The Facebook report identifies messages as far back as 2011 that show she was a target of the suspect.

But it also states that based on Todd's age and her claim that the abuse started when she was 11 years old, the suspect may have been tormenting young girls since 2008.

The report outlines one of the four conversations, reproduced below, which took place on Oct. 21, 2011, about a year before Todd took her own life.

The transcript below includes symbols that are commonly used in online conversation. Among those symbols, :p is a tongue sticking out, often meant in a flirty, mischievous or teasing context; xD is "Smiling hard or laughing;" IDC is "I Don't Care;" and :3 is a "Cat face or "kitty," — based on faces made by Anime characters when they say something cute, clever or sarcastic. The quotes have been reprinted exactly as they appeared during the chat.

Todd had tried ignoring her stalker, but that did not stop the blackmailing. The teen's response to Tyler Boo in the Facebook chat logs shows she defiantly stood up to her online stalker.

AMANDA: do u wanna meet me ? come meet me right now.

TYLER BOO: are u drunk? xD

AMANDA: NOPE. im sober, or are u to scared f--king pedo

The fifth estate's Mark Kelley showed Todd's mother, Carol Todd, a transcript of the conversation her daughter had with her stalker who went by the name Tyler Boo.

"He was very persistent when you look at the kinds of conversation," Carol Todd told Kelley. "And here's Amanda, she's goading him."

Amanda Todd's mother, Carol Todd, has been speaking out to parent groups
and government officials about the dark side of the internet.
"It probably made him angrier that she was finally sticking up. She was not going to do any more pictures or she wasn't going to do anything for this guy."

In November 2011, after being "sextorted" by her stalker for an extended length of time, Todd posted a Facebook status update revealing her feelings about the ongoing online abuse against her.

Status I'm so sorry, everyone who got the links from austin collins. When I was 11 years old I got a message saying 'I have all your information, I will come find you if you don't flash and do this for me' so I was scared, I said, 'one time okay' so I did it. And he said if I didn't do it again he would send to all port coquitlam. I wasn't going to do it again, so then he sent it to everyone in port coquitlam. Teachers, friends family. On christmas. So I moved, I thought new start for my messup would be good, then he followed me.. He stalked and found out my new school and friends and now you guys all got the link. Judge me, or be there for me. Wichever you guys want.. But right now I feel like shit, I feel so sad and sick.. That he's gonna do this for the rest of my life and there's nothing I can do. He made you all think he's a young boy in his teens that is going to westview when he's over 30+, he's tyler boo.. He's a sick pedofile. The best thing I can say now is, don't send it, block him, don't click it.. I really don't know what to do anymore.

Todd took her life almost a year after this Facebook post, on Oct. 10, 2012.
