Parents of 7 children sexually abused by babysitters
may not attend trial this week
NL Times
The parents of seven children allegedly sexually abused by their babysitters won’t attend the suspects’ trial. The case will start on Tuesday at the court in Den Bosch. The court set four days aside for the hearings.
According to a spokesperson of Namens de Familie, a part of Victim Support Netherlands that provides spokespeople for victims and their families, it will be “terrible days” for the families. “They are all in the same boat. They likely won’t attend, though that could change at the last minute, or they can still follow the case remotely.”
The images allegedly recorded by a Limburg couple accused of sexual abuse are “shocking,” the judges presiding over the case said on Tuesday.
Initially, the intention was that the images would be shown during a hearing. However, the court decided against that. The judges looked at the footage in the council chamber, and then spent hours on Tuesday explaining all the horrific acts. "A compelling, coarse and rough tone of the woman towards the children can be heard. The children can be seen in desperation, sadness and fear."
Nancy D. (54) from Herkenbosch in Central Limburg volunteered as a babysitter in the Eindhoven region in 2021. She is accused of sexually abusing the children she looked after. The children were between 1 and 6 years old. She recorded the sexual abuse while her partner, Peter S. (59), watched via webcam. The duo was discovered when the parents of a 2-year-old girl saw the abuse on their nanny cam in June 2021. The police arrested D that same evening.
The two met in early 2018 through a dating site. Soon their relationship was characterized by sexual fantasies that included raping D.’s daughter, child pornography, bestiality, Nazism, and sadomasochism. Each has accused the other of being in charge and leading the abuse.
The parents of the abused children also asked for restraint in sharing sensitive details. Their spokesperson: “They want to prevent rumors or wild stories from circulating. The case is extremely far-reaching.”
The trial starts on Tuesday. That day, the prosecutor and defense will discuss the facts of the case. The victims will get a chance to speak on Thursday. They may decide to do this through their lawyers or Victim Support. The Public Prosecution Service will make its sentence demands on January 23. Then the pleas will follow. The verdict is scheduled for March 13.
Nancy D. has confessed to committing child sexual abuse. Peter S. has also acknowledged responsibility for the abuse.

A hospital worker thought he was going to meet a teenage boy for sex but fainted when the police turned up instead.
Robin Hains, of St Mary’s Close, Chichester, was expecting to meet a 13-year-old boy for sexual activity.
Hains travelled from Bognor to Shirley, Southampton, where he was met by a team of officers who were waiting for him.
He reportedly fainted when saw officers from the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU) and Hampshire Constabulary.
He had used a messaging platform that morning and bragged about the abuse to another man.
No children were in any danger as part of the investigation.
It was discovered at the time of his arrest that he was working in a urology department for University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, in a notifiable profession meaning police informed his employer of his arrest.
He was charged with the offence on the same day. He was later further charged with making indecent images of children.
The 47-year-old was sentenced to three years and two months’ imprisonment at Southampton Crown Court on January 13 after being convicted of a child sexual offence.
He pleaded guilty at a previous hearing at the same court on November 14 to arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sexual offence making a category A indecent image of a child, making a category B indecent image of a child and making a category C image of a child.
During the hearing he was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for ten years and was made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), also for ten years.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Colin Haynes, of SEROCU, said: “Hains travelled a significant distance expecting to carry out sexual abuse against a child.
“Upon meeting police officers instead of the child he had travelled expecting to see for sexual activity to take place, Hains fainted, demonstrating how shocked he was to have been “found out” for his offending.
“Through his professional life, he would have been aware of what constitutes an offence of this nature and will now have time in prison to reflect upon this.
“SEROCU officers continue to work tirelessly to protect children and to bring those who commit offences against them before the courts to be held accountable for their actions.”
Home of serving garda is raided in child sex abuse investigation

A garda is under investigation for allegedly accessing and distributing child sexual abuse material and has been suspended from the force, the Sunday Independent can reveal.
The officer had his home raided last Sunday, during the course of which it is understood a number of electronic devices were seized.
On the same day investigators also searched the officer’s locker at the garda station where he is based.
The rank and file officer — who is understood to be a married man with children, based in Leinster — was suspended from duty on Sunday.
A major garda investigation into his alleged crimes is now underway.
The garda has yet to be arrested. It is normal practice in complex investigations for specialist officers to first seize and examine all electronic devices that have been detected allegedly accessing or distributing child sex abuse material.
After all the relevant evidence has been examined by technical experts, and if a case then exists, the suspect is arrested and questioned.
One source said the officer should not be condemned at this early stage, and added that it is the job of specialist investigators to carry out their enquiries undeterred.
“The garda was immediately suspended and the investigation should now be allowed to take its course. The fact that the suspect is a garda officer has absolutely no relevance to how the case will be investigated,” said a source.
The case is “by far” the most serious case of alleged criminal wrongdoing by a serving garda currently under investigation, and has “sent shockwaves” through the force in recent days.
When contacted, a spokesperson for Garda Headquarters said: “An Garda Siochana are investigating allegations in relation to accessing child sexual abuse material.
“A garda in the Eastern Region has been suspended.”

Former Northland primary school teacher Kirk Broadfoot has had his teaching registration cancelled
after he admitted exporting and possessing child sexual exploitation images.
A Northland primary school teacher who admitted exporting and possessing child sexual exploitation images has had his teaching registration cancelled.
Kirk Broadfoot, a former Ngunguru Primary School teacher, pleaded guilty to seven charges of knowingly exporting objectionable publications from New Zealand and one charge of possession of an objectionable publication. On June 7 last year, Judge Greg Davis sentenced him to 10 months’ home detention.
The conviction was brought to the attention of the Teaching Council of New Zealand, which said its priority was to protect children and young people.
In accordance with the law, the council cancelled Broadfoot’s teaching registration, for which a hearing was not required.
The council told the Advocate the law requires mandatory reporting by a teacher’s employer about any suspected serious misconduct by a teacher.
“Also, if there are immediate concerns for the safety of children and young people and the reputation of the teaching profession, we can seek a voluntary agreement with the teacher to stop teaching until the matter has been fully investigated and resolved.”
The council said this was known as ‘Undertaking Not to Teach’, which appears as an annotation next to the teacher’s name in the public register of teachers available on its website.
“Mr Broadfoot signed an Undertaking Not to Teach which remained in place until his registration was cancelled in June 2022.”
Broadfoot was charged for offending between July 31, 2021 and August 13, 2021, when he uploaded and thus exported 37 publications depicting child sexual exploitation material to an overseas social media platform.
An eighth charge for possession related to when Broadfoot was found on September 23, 2021 to be in possession of at least 94 objectionable child sexual exploitation material publications which he had obtained.
The judge said it was unnecessary to recount the full details of the examples of publications that Broadfoot uploaded and was found to possess.
“However, regarding the categories of the UK Sentencing Guidelines which are used as a guide, there were 37 images exported by Broadfoot, and 94 found in his possession ranging across Category A (images involving penetrative sexual activity or involving sexual activity with an animal, or sadism); Category B (images involving non-penetrative sex); and Category C (indecent images not falling within categories A or B).”
