North Carolina man arrested on child sexual assault charges

DENVER, N.C. (WBTV) - A Lincoln County man was arrested on Friday after he allegedly sexually assaulted a girl multiple times over the past six years.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said that they first received a report of the alleged incidents on Dec. 13, 2022, and set up an interview with the victim.

Investigators found that the victim and suspect, identified as 48-year-old Todd Devon Speight, knew each other.

Speight is charged with three counts of statutory sex offense with a child by an adult and three counts of child abuse by a sexual act on a child.

He was arrested and taken to the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center, where he is being held under a $375,000 secured bond.

Speight will have a first court appearance on Monday, Jan. 23.

RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - A man on death row for killing a 5-year-old Wayne County girl has died in prison.

State prison officials say Eric Lane died of natural causes early this morning in Central Prison Medical Center.

The 51-year-old Lane was sentenced to death for the 2002 murder, rape, and kidnapping of Precious Whitfield.

The child was last seen on May 17, 2002, riding her bike outside her grandmother’s house. Her body was found a couple of days later in a creek about seven miles away.

Lane later appealed his conviction and in 2011 the State Supreme Court upheld the conviction and the death sentence.

Kansas man accused of sexually abusing child; Charges requested

GALENA, Kan. - One man was arrested after the Galena Police Department conducted investigations related to the sexual abuse of a child.

Deputies say they received a tip of possible sexual abuse to a minor from a family member last week.

The investigation led to the arrest of a 59-year-old man from Galena, Kansas.

Deputies are requesting two counts of Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a child under the age of 14.

KOAM is withholding the suspect's name until charges are formally filed by prosecutors.
