'Coward' Hampshire 'predator' who groomed boy with football trips

jailed for historic child sex abuse

A COWARDLY ‘predator’ who ‘came close to destroying’ a child’s family has been jailed.

Robert Michael Blackmore, aka Mike Blackmorehas been convicted of further sexual offences committed against young boys.

The 71-year-old, of High Street, Stockbridge, was a volunteer coach in Burgess Hill during the 1990s. He was first convicted in 2004 for 11 counts of indecent assault on in the early 1990s.

Michael Blackmore has been jailed for six and a half years for further historic child sex offences in the 1990s. His victim, who came forward with allegations, described him as a 'coward' and a 'predator'.

Blackmore changed his name to Michael O’Neill when he was released. He was originally jailed for seven years. A new victim came forward in 2020 with fresh allegations.

Blackmore attended a voluntary interview for questioning. Detective constable Chris Smith, formerly from the complex abuse unit, investigated the new offences – Blackmore was charged.

The sex offender admitted to six further charges of indecent assault on a boy in the early 1990s. Dale Sullivan, prosecuting, told the court the victim was groomed by being taken to football matches – including being brought to Old Trafford to watch Manchester United against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Blackmore met his victim through youth football. He sexually assaulted them when they were alone, including on outings away from his family and in the car at isolated locations.

The victim – unnamed for legal reasons – described the impact on his family and his anxiety, nervousness and depression. ‘The effects of this abuse will never go away, and came close to destroying my family.’  he said.

He added he described Blackmore as a ‘coward’ and a ‘predator’, who’s abuse left him with trauma. His honour judge David Rennie sentenced Blackmore to a further six and a half years in prison for the historic offences.

DC Smith said: ‘This case demonstrates the lifelong impact that sexual abuse has on victims. Blackmore ingratiated himself with boys families to earn their trust, then abused that trust by committing these crimes.

‘The victim showed enormous courage to come forward and report his experiences. It shows that Sussex Police takes these reports very seriously, and investigates all reports of sexual offences thoroughly.

‘We are pleased that the victim got justice, and hopefully he can begin to move on with his life.’

Predatory Podcast: Gary Jubelin shares his stance against paedophiles

Former homicide detective Gary Jubelin has shared the “chilling” interview he had with a killer and paedophile and why he still thinks about it.

Journalist and author Andrew Rule is joined by actress Madeleine West to talk about her new podcast series Predatory and her experience as a victim of childhood sexual abuse, as well as what parents can do to protect their children.

Opinion: Predatory adults having sex with innocent children. That’s what we are talking about here. If that crime doesn’t disgust you, then you and I have a problem.

There are often grey areas involved in criminal acts, but not when it comes to an adult abusing an innocent child for their own sexual gratification. There are no excuses or areas of mitigation. Please don’t try and tell me there are, because adults should not have sex with children.

Children can’t consent, there is no justification or excuse.

When I was working as a cop, I often came across paedophiles, and they are not nice people. I found them to be extremely manipulative, deliberately presenting themselves as nice, decent people. This false persona creates situations where they have access to children because people trust them and don’t see them as a threat.

It worried me how proactive they were in their endeavours to groom potential victims.

Their powerful sexual urges and fantasies were difficult to suppress. They were often preoccupied with finding their next victim. That’s what notorious paedophile Jeffrey Hillsley did when he befriended a man to get access to a 10-year-old girl.

Self-confessed serial paedophile Jeffrey John Hillsley.

It was quite chilling when I interviewed Hillsley, listening to him describe how he murdered the friend (who cannot be named) in 2003 before raping his young stepdaughter.

Thankfully, Hillsley is doing life in prison, but it reaffirmed to me just how dangerous predatory paedophiles are.

What also concerns me about children being sexually abused is the amount of people who are aware of this occurring but choose to remain silent. Why does this happen? One would think any decent person would stand up and support a child that has been sexually abused, but from what I have seen that is not necessarily the case.

Indeed, it is all too seldom the case.

Quite often these matters are swept under the carpet because it is too confronting, or in the case of abuses happening within the family because it will break up the family if the abuse becomes public. That’s simply not good enough. If you are aware of the sexual abuse of a child and choose not to come forward you are complicit in the act — if not legally then certainly morally.

Since leaving the police, I have adopted a less rigid view of what is right or wrong regarding certain crimes, but not when it relates to the sexual abuse of children. In fact, I have come to the terrible realisation that a great deal of people I spent my police career locking up were victims of sexual abuse as children. It was that evil act where their innocence and trust were taken away that led them on a path of self-destruction often involving substance abuse, crime, and time in prison.

It is also my opinion that a majority of men in prison in Canada have been sexually abused as children. A psychologist who worked with men from the Fraser Valley prisons commented on my abuse and sexual abuse as a child and declared, "You should be in jail! Most of my patients in prisons suffered less abuse than you but blame their imprisonment on child sexual abuse. Why aren't you in jail?"

Things need to change, we need to talk about child sexual abuse, regardless of how uncomfortable it makes us feel. The phrase ‘prevention is better than cure’ has been around for centuries and it is mostly aligned with health care. Well perhaps we should look at child sexual abuse in the same way. Let’s make it stop.

That’s why actor Madeleine West, herself a victim of child sexual abuse, and myself, a former cop, have decided to do a podcast series called ‘Predatory’, warning people about these predators who prey on innocent children.

We hope the information and messages contained in the eight-part podcast series will create a safer environment for children and make it much harder for people to sexually abuse children.

Evil paedophile Brett Peter Cowan who abducted and murdered Daniel Morcombe.

We delve deep into a world most people don’t want to discuss, simply because it’s too confronting. Listeners to the podcast will get tips on how to safeguard children and get a greater understanding of the impact this crime has on our society; the figures are staggering.

Both Madeleine and I are passionate about trying to make a difference. This podcast series will also hopefully make the courts appreciate the damage that is done on the victims and call out those people who choose to do nothing when they are aware of abuse happening.

Our children need to be protected.

Champion horse breeder faces up to 14 years in jail

after admitting sex abuse of teen girl

Standing in the dock Beattie, from the Bresagh Road in Lisburn, confessed his guilt

to each of the eight charges against him

This is the champion horse breeder who faces up to 14 years in jail after he admitted the repeated sex abuse of a teenage schoolgirl.

With a jury sworn in ready to hear the trial of Michael Harold Beattie and with the victim on stand by to give evidence at Craigavon Crown Court on Tuesday, the 42-year-old’s defence counsel asked for the charges to be put to the creep again.

Standing in the dock Beattie, from the Bresagh Road in Lisburn, confessed his guilt to each of the eight charges against him including six counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child aged 13-16 and two of inciting the same child to engage in sexual activity over a time span between 21 December 2018 and 5 March 2019, offences which carry a maximum 14 year sentence.

Thanking the jury for their service, Judge Peter Irvine KC said he would adjourn passing sentence until the beginning of March by which time he will have had sight of a pre-sentence probation report as well as a victim impact report.

Although Beattie was freed on continuing bail, the married horse breeder turned paedo creep was told that he will now have to sign the police sex offender’s register.

When contacted by this newspaper, Beattie declined to talk about the case and simply said “no comment” when asked about it but it’s not just his impending sentencing that could result in a change of address for the deviant show jumper.

Beattie’s sprawling 65 acre farm is on the market for a whopping £900,000 but even though it’s been on the market “for a long time,” no offers have even come close to the asking price.
