A former Shallowater ISD band teacher accused of sexually abusing a student multiple times was arrested Thursday.

Joseph Gonzalez
, 27, was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center on a first-degree felony count of continuous sexual abuse of a child, according to county jail records.

The offense carries a punishment of 25 years to life in prison without parole.

His charge stems from a Texas Rangers investigation that began on Feb. 4 after the Shallowater ISD police chief asked for assistance investigating reports that Gonzalez was in a sexual relationship with a student, according to court records.

The Ranger observed the child's forensic interview at the Children's Advocacy Center, during which the girl said Gonzalez became her band teacher in 2023.

She said the relationship started professionally but turned personal as he began messaging her on two social media accounts and started asking her for explicit images of herself, which she sent, the documents state.

The girl reportedly said Gonzalez sexually assaulted her at her home and on school grounds multiple times between May 2024 and December 2025.

On Feb. 3, Shallowater ISD officials issued a statement to parents of students saying an unidentified employee was placed on leave after they learned he was being accused of having an improper relationship with a student.

Officials could not disclose details of the situation, citing the ongoing investigation, with which they were fully cooperating.

His bond is set at $500,000, according to jail records.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville man faces life in prison after prosecutors say he recorded himself sexually abusing a child while on shock probation in another child sex abuse case.

Shock probation is a US legal policy where a judge sentences an offender to a short period of incarceration followed by release on probation, aiming to "shock" them away from future crime.

In a news release Thursday, the Department of Justice said a federal jury found Quinnton Dawson, 35, guilty of all nine counts related to child exploitation on March 5. He was also found to use his email to “seek out and trade” child sex abuse materials.

Prosecutors said Dawson recorded himself sexually abusing a 4-year-old after being granted shock probation in a previous conviction for possession and distribution of child sex abuse materials. He was also previously convicted of second-degree robbery.

“It is hard to quantify the depravity it takes for a man to film himself engaging in sex acts with a four-year-old child,” U.S. Attorney Kyle Bumgarner said. “It truly demonstrates that evil is among us. My heart goes out to this innocent little girl and her family.”

Dawson is scheduled to be sentenced on June 11, 2026.

He faces a minimum of 35 years in prison and a maximum sentence of 340 years.

There is no parole in the federal system.

CENTRE, Ala. (WBRC) - A Cherokee County man has been arrested on over 100 charges related to child sex abuse material, some of which was allegedly generated with artificial intelligence (AI).

According to Centre Police, in January 2026, Chief Investigator Randy Mayorga received an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) cybertip concerning child sexual abuse material, being shared online through social media.

Police say that tip provided evidence and included information that established a suspect with an address in Centre. As the investigation developed, they identified 21-year-old Malaki Ray Sipsy of Centre as the suspect.

Mayorga reportedly contacted the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office’s Investigations Unit for assistance in executing the search warrant. Through the warrant, authorities seized several electronic devices.

According to police, while reviewing the devices, authorities found videos of child sex abuse material, as well as more sexually explicit images. Police allege that these photos were manipulated and altered using AI.

Police say that Sipsy is being held on four counts of possession of child sex abuse material and 122 counts of attempted possession of child sex abuse material, bringing his total number of charges to 126.

“Parents, Guardians, and Custodians are encouraged to manually check and place social media apps on the phones of their kids to ‘private’ with strict parental consents,” wrote Centre Police.
