Ypsilanti man, 75, accused of child sexually abusive activity, police say
MSP said on Tuesday that 75-year-old Michael Paul Travers was arrested following an investigation that showed that he may have accessed illicit content on the internet.
A search of his residence resulted in the seizure of digital evidence, MSP says.
Travers was charged with two counts of child sexually abusive material possession and two counts of using a computer to commit a crime.
Travers was arraigned in the 14-A1 District Court of Washtenaw County on Friday.
The MSP Computer Crimes Unit and the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force announced the arrest of Travers. The investigation was initiated by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the ICAC Task Force.
The MSP Computer Crimes Unit says it encourages parents to speak with their children about the safe use of the internet and provides resources to help keep children safe online.
The NCMEC provides a list of resources on its website, and the Michigan ICAC Task Force provides resources at michigan.gov/ICAC.

Florida AG charging Kissimmee man in child sex image case, files lawsuit against AI platform
Attorney General James Uthmeier announced that his Office has filed 100 felony counts, most of them involving child sexual abuse material, against a Kissimmee man.
He separately detailed a civil lawsuit against an artificial intelligence company accused of generating nonconsensual sexualized images from photographs of real people.
Uthmeier’s Office of Statewide Prosecution is charging Jerry Jesus Reyes, 26, with multiple counts of possessing and transmitting child sexual abuse material, along with materials depicting sexual activity with animals.
Uthmeier said authorities were alerted by a tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about activity on Snapchat. Detectives with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Unit traced Reyes’ account.
The charges include multiple counts of unlawful possession of materials depicting sexual performance by a child, multiple counts of unlawful possession of materials depicting sexual activity with animals and one count of transmitting child pornography by electronic device. The sexual activity with animals allegedly involved a dog.
“You got to be pretty messed up to do that,” Uthmeier said in a news conference Wednesday, adding the images were “egregious, inhumane videos. Just sick stuff.”
In the civil case, Uthmeier filed suit against A2E, an AI website owned by Nevada-based Rengstorff Consulting. The 26-page lawsuit says the platform offers “nudification,” letting users turn real photos or videos into AI-generated nude and sexualized images and videos, including of children.
“The complaint cites specific Florida criminal cases in which A2E was used to generate child sexual abuse material, including a Tampa case in which a perpetrator created more than 100 sexualized images of his minor stepchildren and a Tallahassee case involving AI-generated depictions of minors. In these instances, the platform did not flag or report the materials,” an Uthmeier news release said.
The suit seeks an injunction barring Rengstorff Consulting from offering AI products that let users create nonconsensual sexualized images or child sexual abuse material, along with civil penalties of up to $10,000 per violation of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act. It was filed in the 12th Judicial Circuit Court in Sarasota County.
The charges against Reyes are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless convicted.
