VIRGIN, Utah (AP) — A Hurricane, UT man accused of inappropriately touching his pre-teen relatives has been found dead.
Springdale Police Chief Garen Brecke tells The Spectrum in St. George that police located the body of 54-year-old Paul Brady Whitlatch last week in a remote area of Virgin.
Investigators are trying to determine if Whitlatch took his own life.
Hurricane police found him Nov. 3 while doing a welfare check. He had been released on bond a few days prior.
Brecke says officers found Whitlatch's car and then his body away from the vehicle.
Authorities did not release the manner of death.
Whitlatch had been charged with 12 felony counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child. In addition, he was charged with counts of aggravated assault and tampering with a witness.
The sense of shame for a pedophile who has been 'outed' must be overwhelming, at least for some. For those with families; fathers or grandfathers, it must be unbearable as Whitlatch's apparent suicide attests to. How can we make people see the potential for destruction of families as well as the destruction of innocence in molesting a child, before they start down that road?
