The New York State Senate voted Tuesday to impose tougher penalties on those who sexually abuse children.
The bill, S3212A, sponsored by state Sen. Catharine Young would create two new crimes — promoting a sex offense against a child, a class B felony, and possessing a sex offense against a child, a class C felony.
Young, R-Olean, said the bill targets sexual predators who use the internet to exploit children.
She cited a case from her district involving a 9-year-old girl whose abuse was broadcast online. Individuals watching the broadcast sent instant messages suggesting various sex acts, the senator said.
How sick is that?
"This legislation removes the cloak of security pedophiles have found online by establishing a new crime of promoting and possessing a sex offense against a child," Young said.
The Senate passed the bill by a vote of 58-0.
The measure will be sent to the Assembly for consideration.
Well done you guys, you're my heroes today. God bless you.
