Indian police arrest 4 suspects following chilling
rape & murder of vet in Hyderabad
The burnt body of an Indian woman has been found on the outskirts of Hyderabad, not far from the place where veterinarian Priyanka Reddy was kidnapped, brutally raped and murdered by a gang of locals earlier this week.
As India recovers from the shock caused by the blood-chilling murder of the 27-year-old vet in Shamshabad, more grueling news has come from the very same town.
On Saturday morning, locals walking past the Ayyappa temple in a Hyderabad suburb spotted flames in the vicinity and approached them. To their horror, it turned out to be a woman’s body on fire. Their attempts to save her life were unsuccessful as the blaze was too intense.
Ambulances and police, now busy inquiring into the Reddy rape and murder case, swiftly responded to the call, but the woman succumbed to her injuries before they arrived.
Officials said that a matchbox and a half-burnt plastic canister were recovered at the site which smelled of kerosene, local media reported. They believe this was a suicide by self-immolation – but the woman’s body will be scrutinized for possible signs of murder or sexual abuse.
Raising suspicion is the fact that the Ayyappa temple lies roughly five miles from the location in Shamshabad where Reddy’s charred body was found on Thursday after a frantic search by her family and local police.
Hyderabad police have arrested four men, among them a prime suspect – a truck driver called Mohammed Pasha. The four are accused of forcibly taking the woman to a desolate place, raping her and then burning her corpse to such a degree that her family could only identify her remains by a locket she wore around her neck.
Reddy’s death sent shockwaves through Indian society, stirring up a social media campaign demanding harsh penalties for the accused. The victim’s relatives demanded the culprits be burnt or hanged to death, with many netizens supporting such punishment.
A 32-year-old widow, from Neyveli in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, was gangraped by five men on her way home from grocery shopping, on Thursday. One of the five accused was killed by the other rapists, after he got into a fight with them over his turn to rape the victim.
The incident occurred when the victim was returning home along with her relative on a two-wheeler. When her relative stopped the bike midway on a deserted road to uncivilly urinate on the road, the group of five rapists spotted her. Her relative tried to stop them as they approached her, but he was beaten and chased away.
They then took her to an isolated spot and brutally gangraped her. Amidst the criminal act, one of the gang members was killed in a fight over his turn to rape her, so the rest of the group killed him and abandoned the victim with their dead accomplice at the site. When the victim gained consciousness, she went to a nearby police station and registered a complaint after which she was rushed for medical examination.
Based on the complaint, the police identified the accused and all of the five men are daily wage labourers. They have now been taken into judicial custody.
A body of a 20-year-old was found in the bushes in Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu by shepherds who saw her carcass on the evening of 26th November. They alerted the village administration and the police came to recover her body – but it was completely decomposed by the time any action was taken.
The doctors from a government hospital in Kancheepuram conducted a post-mortem examination on the spot and to fill the blanks, the police began to look into a ‘missing report’ that was filed for a woman a few days earlier. The name in the missing complaint and the body recovered was found to belong to the same woman, named Roja, from Siruvallur.
Amazing, the body decomposed in a few days????!!!
One of the investigating officers told Times Of India that Roja had become ‘friendly’ with a married man at her workplace in Sriperumbudur. Her body bore injuries around the neck which were caused due to hanging from a tree, the officer had informed.
An auto-rickshaw driver was arrested for kidnapping and raping an 11-year-old girl who was abandoned by her aunt at Chandigarh Railway Station, Punjab Police said on 29th November. Urmila Devi, Sub-Inspector of the Government Railway Police (GRP), told ANI, “A girl was allegedly abandoned by her aunt on Chandigarh Railway Station. Later, she sat in an auto-rickshaw and on her way, she might have told the driver that she was alone.”
“Taking advantage of the minor’s situation, the driver took the girl to his rented place, held her captive for days and raped her,” police added. Officer Devi further said that police handed over the girl and the accused to GRP on November 27. “A case has been registered under POSCO Act and we have presented the accused before a court and he is in two-day remand,” she added. Further investigation in the case is underway.
A 25-year-old law student was abducted and gang raped by 12 men at gunpoint at a brick kiln near Ranchi’s high-security zone this week. According to a report, all 12 accused have confessed to the crime. As per the FIR lodged by the victim at Kanke police station, the incident happened at around 5.30 pm on November 26 when she was with a friend in the city outskirts.
Two motorcycle-borne men accosted them and abducted the victim at gunpoint after overpowering her friend, the police said. The spot is barely 4km from her law college campus and 10 km from the chief minister’s official residence. The locality also houses the residences of the DGP, chief justice of the Jharkhand high court and the leader of the opposition.
The motorbike reportedly ran out of fuel at some distance when the two men called up their friends and asked them to come with a car. They then drove to the brick kiln and took turns to rape the woman. The victim managed to reach the police station the next morning and lodged an FIR, following which police arrested the 12 accused after conducting raids.
Less than a day after the horrific gang-rape and brutal murder of a veterinary doctor came to light from Telangana, another sexual crime, this time, in Gujarat has surfaced, where a minor girl was raped by two men at the Navlakhi Ground on Thursday.
The 14-year-old girl was learning how to drive at the Navlakhi Ground located along Palace Road in Moti Bagh area when the incident took place. At the time, she was accompanied by a friend who was helping her out.
In his statement to the police, the friend claimed that two men approached them and started threatening them without any provocation. They chased the friend away and forcefully dragged the minor girl towards the other end of the ground where they took turns to rape her.
Escaping from the location, the girl’s friend reached the nearest police station and alerted them about the gruesome incident. A team of personnel rushed to the spot and launched a search operation that lasted for about an hour-and-a-half. They found her lying behind a thick set of bushes, covered in blood.
The child was taken to the Shree Sir Sayaji General Hospital in Vadodara where she is currently undergoing treatment. Bruises on her body indicate that the accused thrashed the girl mercilessly after sexually assaulting her. Meanwhile, a medico-legal test has confirmed that the child was raped.
A case of gang-rape has been registered against the two unknown assailants and teams of local police personnel have been formed to identify and nab them.
Once arrested, they will be charged with relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Police have arrested four suspects in the wake a brutal rape and murder of a veterinarian in the Hyderabad area of India. Those detained include a prime suspect in the harrowing crime that has shocked the nation.
The four men were brought into custody on Friday, just one day after the badly burnt body of 27-year-old vet Priyanka Reddy was found, local media reported. The police were able to flag the suspects after browsing through CCTV footage from the crime scene.
Among those arrested is the prime suspect, identified as Mohammed Pasha, a local truck driver. Pasha, along with the other three men, is accused of kidnapping, gang-raping and slaughtering the woman near Tondupally toll plaza on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
The prelude to the tragedy began on Wednesday, when Priyanka Reddy’s motorbike developed a flat tire as she made her way to an animal hospital. She tried to leave but a group of men blocked her way out and then offered to repair the flat tire. Police now believe the suspects intentionally caused the puncture in order to make their attack easier.
During her final phone call to her sister Bhavya, the woman said she was frightened at being stranded in an unfamiliar area, surrounded by several men and trucks parked nearby. Bhavya suggested that she abandon the bike and walk to the nearest toll gate, but that didn’t happen.
Priyanka was forcibly taken to a secluded location near the plaza where the heinous crime took place. Investigators are now trying to find out whether she was bludgeoned to death or strangled.
Her badly burned corpse was discovered on Thursday morning by locals. Police later recovered the victim’s clothes, footwear, and a liquor bottle outside the toll plaza.
The harrowing news has resonated throughout Indian society, reviving bitter memories of the 2012 crime in which 23-year-old female physiotherapy student Jyoti Singh was beaten, gang-raped, and tortured in a private bus in South Delhi.
As the investigation continues, Priyanka’s family is demanding justice. “Whoever has done this needs to be hanged to death,” her father said. The victim’s mother wants a harsher punishment, saying the culprits should be “burnt alive in public.”
UPDATE:
The four men accused of raping and murdering a 27-year-old woman on the outskirts of Hyderabad have confessed to the gruesome crime. Meanwhile, mass protests swept across the state, resulting in heated standoffs with police.
Tens of thousands of people poured onto the streets of Hyderabad, and elsewhere across the state of Telangana, as the accused appeared before a district magistrate on Saturday. Police had to call in reinforcements to prevent lynching, escorting the suspects through the angry masses in one piece.
As the crowd grew increasingly violent, throwing slippers at the officers and refusing to let them pass, police were forced use batons to disperse the mob.
The accused – two lorry drivers and their accomplices, identified as Mohammed Areef (26), Jollu Shiva (20), Jollu Naveen (20) and Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu (20) – confessed to the crime and were sent to 14-day pre-trial custody.
The gang deliberately punctured one of the wheels of Priyanka Reddy’s bike to stall her and offer “help” with repairs, police commissioner VC Sajjanar told a press conference. She was then dragged away from the toll road, raped and strangled. Her body was taken some 25km away and burnt under a bridge.
State-wide protests took place in Andhra Pradesh today condemning the heinous crime meted out to the veterinary doctor in Hyderabad & to demand #JusticeForPriyankaReddy and her family. ABVP will not stop until justice is served to the victim and perpetrators are brought to book.
The harrowing crime resonated throughout Indian society, with crowds of protesters virtually besieging the police station since Friday, demanding that the accused be publicly hanged or burned to death. Authorities have promised to fast-track the proceedings.
