Child sex offender jailed over 'horrendous' photos

Police have welcomed the jailing of a "dangerous" child sex offender who admitted assaulting a child and having "horrendous" indecent images of children.

At Truro Crown Court last Friday, Ben Haymes, 34, previously of Bodmin and Bude in Cornwall, was sentenced to four years and four months in prison, and a further four years on extended licence, after admitting 15 charges.

He also possessed extreme pornography, the court heard.

Devon and Cornwall Police said he was jailed after a "lengthy complex investigation".

'Dangerous sex offender'

Haymes was also made subject of a lifelong sexual harm prevention order.

Warning: This story contains details readers might find distressing

Offences he admitted included assaulting a boy under 13, seven making indecent images of children charges, two counts of possessing extreme pornography, voyeurism, two possessing a prohibited images of a child charges and two counts of showing an indecent photograph, police said.

The court heard police executed a search warrant in July 2019 at an address in Bude after receiving information an indecent image of a child had been uploaded to the internet by someone at the location.

Officers said a digital examination revealed a folder linked to Haymes contained hundreds of indecent images.

Haymes also possessed extreme pornography showing sex acts involving his own dog and messages in which Haymes stated his sexual intentions for children and animals.

Det Con Charlotte Norris, of Devon and Cornwall Police, said she "welcomed" the sentence after a "lengthy complex investigation".

She said: "Ben Haymes is a dangerous sex offender who was in possession of horrendous child abuse images of young children and spoke freely about his desires.

"I hope this case sends out a strong message to those committing child sex offences and viewing child abuse material that we will find them and bring them to justice."

Not really a strong message, he will be back on the streets in a couple years, so what makes you think he will be any different? Do you think being on licence will stop him from doing what he loves best?

Aquatics supervisor at Ontario Recreation Centre

facing child luring, sex assault charges

"The City of Orillia has been made aware of an investigation involving an employee and that this individual is no longer actively employed with the city,' says official

An aquatics supervisor at the Orillia Recreation Centre is facing a slew of child luring and other child-related sexual offences.

Last week, the Orillia OPP "received information regarding a historical sexual assault and child luring incident" that occurred in 2021, the OPP said in a media release.

Police were advised that the accused, who was an aquatics supervisor at the West Street facility at the time of the alleged incident, was offering alcohol to a youth in exchange for explicit images.

Earlier today, the Orillia OPP, with the assistance of the child sexual exploitation unit, executed a search warrant at an Orillia residence.

As a result of this investigation, Manuel Marroquinn-Ramirez, 43, of Orillia, has been charged with:

  • Luring a person under 18 years of age by means of telecommunication — three counts;
  • Communicate with anyone for the purpose of obtaining sexual services;
  • Sexual exploitation;
  • Sexual assault;
  • Possession of child pornography;
  • Selling or distributing to an individual under 19 years of age;
  • Knowingly supplying liquor to person under 19 years

The accused is being held in custody, pending a bail hearing.

Orillia OPP Const. Shelby Russell was asked for more clarity about where the incidents occurred, but could not provide a lot of details.

"The offences were spread out over a period of time and locations, not necessarily occurring at the Orillia (Recreation Centre)," she said.

It's also unknown, at this time, if there may be more victims. "There is a thought there could be other victims, but at this point in the investigation, it is unknown," Russell said.

According to the OPP media release, Marroquinn-Ramirez was an aquatics supervisor "until September 2024." Melissa Gowanlock, the city's manager of communications, said the accused is no longer employed by the city.

"We can confirm that the City of Orillia has been made aware of an investigation involving an employee and that this individual is no longer actively employed with the city," said Gowanlock in an emailed statement.

"The health, safety and well-being of our staff and the people we serve are our top priorities and we are cooperating fully with the OPP. As this is an active police matter, the city will not be providing further comment," she said.

Anyone with information about this or a similar incident is urged to call the Orillia OPP at 1-888-310-1122. You can also provide information anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477) or online at www.crimestopperssdm.com

Undercover online Met operation brings

child sex offender to justice

A man has been jailed following an online undercover Met operation that exposed how he was planning to carry out disturbing sex offences towards children.

Sean Wallace, 44 (17.07.80), of Woodside Road, Haringey, was sentenced to 14-and-a-half years' imprisonment at Wood Green Crown Court on Thursday, 19 September for arranging the rape of a child under 13 and distributing an indecent image of a child.

During an undercover operation in which a police officer posed online as a woman with access to a child, Wallace contacted the officer asking if he could sexually abuse the fictional child. He sent sexual images of himself as well as indecent images of other children. During online chat and telephone calls Wallace spoke openly about his desire to abuse young girls and made arrangements to meet the woman in order that he could rape the child.

He was arrested at his home address after he failed to attend the planned meeting stating that he was nervous and needed more time to build up trust with the woman before meeting her.

The examination of his mobile phone identified that Wallace was speaking online to numerous apparently underage girls.

He was charged on 19 August 2022 and has been held on remand until his sentencing.

Detective Sergeant Robert Blant, whose team led the investigation, said: “Sean Wallace is a dangerous predatory offender, who preyed on innocent and vulnerable young children.

“My team worked around the clock to bring Wallace to justice by going through large amounts of disturbing digital evidence collated from his online activities and seized from his home. I’m pleased that as a result of great policing work, we have prevented a dangerous individual from continuing to offend and ruin the lives of children or young people.

“Our dedicated teams will continue to apply their expertise in investigating child sexual offences to safeguard children and young people across London.”

Children and young people are the most vulnerable in society, and the Met is committed to keeping them safe in person and online.

As part of the New Met for London plan, our officers are working closely with third sector partners, including The Children’s Society to help young people, parents and carers spot the signs of sexual abuse and predatory behaviour online and offline.
