Babysitter checking for ‘monsters’ finds man hiding under Kansas child’s bed

One child’s common bedtime fear of a monster became a reality when a Kansas babysitter came face-to-face with a grown man hiding underneath the bed.

On Monday night, a Kansas woman was putting the children she babysat to bed around 10:30 p.m. when one child “complained there was a ‘monster’ under their bed,” according to authorities.

“When the victim attempted to show the child there was nothing under the bed, she came face-to-face with a male suspect who was hiding there,” the Barton County Sheriff’s Office said. “An altercation ensued with the babysitter and one child was knocked over in the struggle. The suspect then fled the scene before deputies arrived.”

Deputies were dispatched to the home and searched the area for the suspect but were unable to locate him.

On Tuesday, police spotted the man and he attempted to flee from law enforcement but was arrested after being chased by deputies on foot.

The man, identified as Martin Villalobos Jr., 27, “once lived at the residence but there was currently a protection from abuse order issued against him to stay away from the property,” according to police.

Villalobos was arrested and transported to Barton County Jail, where he is being held in custody on US$500,000 bail.

He was booked on requested charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, child endangerment, felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer and violation of a protection from abuse order.

Babysitter who called police about girls in Edmonton basement speaks

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened in the United States.

In August 2022, a then-25-year-old man faced felony charges after he was found hiding under a seven-year-old’s bed in Morgan County, Utah, according to ABC4

When a Morgan County sheriff’s deputy arrived at the scene, they found the homeowner in a physical fight with the suspect, identified as Garrett Brent Henstra Bills.

The homeowner told police he found Bills, who was wearing “all black clothing with a shirt tied as a mask on his face,” hiding under his daughter’s bed.

Detectives learned that Bills had allegedly entered the girl’s room multiple times over the course of three weeks and hid under her bed.

After his arrest, authorities learned that Bills was alleged to have inappropriately touched the child during one of the three times he entered the home, according to NBC affiliate KSL.

Bills was charged with aggravated burglary, burglary of a dwelling and aggravated sex abuse of a child.

It is, unfortunately, more common than you might think that pedophiles take up with single mothers so they can have access to her children. Single mothers need to be much more discerning before inviting men to live with them.

Man, Who Was Previously Convicted of Child Sex Abuse, Found Guilty of Molesting His New Girlfriend’s 8-Year-Old Daughter

Lawrence Burt, 48, had a prior conviction for sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl when he was 31 years old

A Louisiana man with a prior child sexual abuse conviction has been found guilty of molesting his girlfriend’s young daughter.

Lawrence Burt, 48, was convicted of indecent behavior with a juvenile on Friday, March 28. He now faces between two to 25 years in prison, according to a press release from the Louisiana District Attorney’s Office.

Per trial testimony, deputies from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a Pearl River residence in March 2022 “in reference to a sexual abuse complaint.”

Upon arriving at the residence, deputies spoke to a woman who said her 8-year-old daughter had been touched inappropriately by her boyfriend, the release said.

The Louisiana D.A.’s office stated that, upon being interviewed by a forensic interviewer, the child said Burt would sneak into her bedroom during the night and “fuss” at her if she attempted to lock her bedroom door.

She also said that she had been afraid to tell her mother about the abuse out of fear that Burt would kill her and her family.

The office said an arrest warrant was eventually issued for Burt, who was later located at a local apartment complex. Authorities received assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service.

While Burt initially denied the allegations when interviewed, he did admit to avoiding police after finding out about the warrant for his arrest, authorities added.

The office said Burt has a prior conviction for sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl when he was 31 years old. He also has two convictions for failing to register as a convicted sex offender, as well as a conviction for theft.

Sentencing for the most recent case will take place in May, per the District Attorney’s office.

The Louisiana D.A.’s office and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment on Sunday, March 30.

‘I thought my child was safe’: School janitor who rubbed private parts on cafeteria utensils, sprayed bleach on cucumbers learns fate

Giovanni Impellizzeri

Giovanni Impellizzeri at his sentencing hearing Friday in Cumberland County, New Jersey (WCAU/YouTube).

A school janitor from New Jersey is headed to prison after he admitted to recording himself doing sex acts on utensils in the cafeteria and spraying bleach on food that children and staff were eating.

Giovanni Impellizzeri, 25, was sentenced on Friday to eight years in prison, five of which he must serve before he is eligible for parole, the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release. Once he completes his prison sentence, he will be on probation for the rest of his life.

The investigation began in the fall of 2023 when the Elizabeth F. Moore School in Upper Deerfield Township received tips about a man later identified as Impellizzeri posting on Telegram several videos of himself doing inappropriate acts in the school. The videos showed him wiping his penis and anus on several utensils, a probable cause arrest affidavit said. He did the same — along with spitting — on multiple pieces of bread before putting them back in a container where they were being served to children. They also depicted him masturbating and urinating on pillows and cafeteria bowls. Another showed him spray bleach on cucumbers.

Telegram users saved several of the videos and forwarded them to the school who in turn immediately alerted law enforcement. Cops identified Impellizzeri, who had worked for the school district for about four years, as the man in the videos. The school discarded any of the utensils or other items Impellizzeri had handled.

Prosecutors charged the janitor with aggravated assault, tampering with food items and official misconduct. A subsequent investigation unveiled that Impellizzeri was in possession of child sexually abusive material and he was charged with that as well.

In January, the defendant pleaded guilty to the official misconduct and possession of child sexually abusive material charges.

At Friday’s sentencing hearing, a parent of a child in the school district told the court of the horrific impact Impellizzeri’s actions had on them.

“I am disgusted by what this man did to all our children,” said Marisol Perez Cruz, according to Philadelphia NBC affiliate WCAU. “I am hurt to know that in one place where I thought my child was safe, she wasn’t.”

Upper Deerfield School Superintendent Peter Koza also addressed the court.

“What our students, our staff, and parents, and our children had to endure is unconscionable, and we cannot change what happened,” Koza said, per local ABC affiliate WPVI.

For his part, Impellizzeri apologized for his actions saying there’s “no excuse” for what he did.

“I feel very bad about it. I wish I could go back in time and not do it, but it’s done now, and I realize I have to pay for it,” he said.

His lawyer told WCAU her client isn’t a bad person but did bad things and now has accepted responsibility.

We are all bad persons - There is none good, but God! But some bad persons do good things, and some do bad things. Such people can always change, but it is almost impossible without God.

Man sentenced to 120 years for sexually abusing a child in New Mexico, Texas

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - A jury convicted a man for sexually abusing a child in both New Mexico and Texas on Tuesday.

Last week, the 47th District Court conducted a jury trial on two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child against Richard Taylor

Officials say Taylor finished a prison sentence in New Mexico for sexually abusing a child.

The abuse had occurred in both New Mexico and in Texas when the child was visiting family in Amarillo.

The victim, now an adult, took the stand and testified about what happened to her as a child in both states

According to officials, the jury convicted Taylor and recommended sentences of 60 years in prison on each count.

The Honorable Judge Dee Johnson then granted the State’s motion to stack those sentences, meaning that they will run consecutively for a total punishment of 120 years.

Taylor’s attorney filed an appeal on the case last Wednesday.
