MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Martinsburg man convicted of multiple sex offenses has received the maximum sentence under the law.

On Thursday, Paul Edward Ritenour, Jr., 54, of Martinsburg was sentenced to the maximum sentence under the law according to Berkeley County Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Kinser.

Kinser tells The Panhandle News Network that amounts to “an indeterminate sentence of 355-1040 years.”

In April, Ritenour was convicted on two dozen sex-related offenses, making him subject to the more than a thousand year prison sentence.

Among the charges Ritenour faced were 12 counts of Sexual Abuse by a Parent, Guardian, or Custodian; 11 counts of Sexual Assault in the 1st Degree (child under 12), and one count of Sexual Assault in the 2nd Degree.

Lufkin man gets 60 years for child sexual assault

A jury on Wednesday sentenced Juan Fernando Franco, 40, of Lufkin, to 60 years in prison.

He had pleaded guilty to charges of sexual assault of a child and two counts of indecency with a child but asked the jury to pronounce his sentence.

The jury was presented with evidence of the offenses and testimony from the prosecution, as well as character and witness testimony from the defense. The jury assessed the defendant’s punishment to 60 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and a $10,000 fine for sexual assault of a child — prohibited person, and 20 years in the Department of Criminal Justice for each count of indecency with a child.

The prosecution requested that the sentences run consecutively, but the request was denied by the court and the sentences were ordered to run concurrently.

The trial was held Tuesday and Wednesday in the 217th Judicial Court.

The jury heard evidence that on May 15, 2022, the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting that a young child had been sexually assaulted in an affluent Bald Hill neighborhood. The victim could be heard hysterically crying in the background.

When deputies arrived, they learned the victim had immediately told an older child what had happened.

The prosecution told the jury that the older child retrieved a gun and confronted Franco. Franco denied that he had assaulted the victim.

While on scene, Investigator Quinton McClure asked Franco to provide a DNA sample. The prosecution said Franco immediately became uncooperative and refused to provide the DNA. It was later obtained pursuant to a search warrant.

The victim was taken from the scene of the sexual assault to Harold’s House, where the victim told what had happened. The prosecution said a sexual assault examination was conducted that corroborated the victim’s sexual assault report.

Franco attempted to convince the jury that he was deserving of probation.

District Attorney Amy Wren, who prosecuted the case, said, “The jury, however, took the opportunity to ensure that Franco could not access another child as long as possible, returning a verdict that recognized the seriousness of the acts perpetrated by Franco, the profound effect Franco’s actions had on the victim and others, and the risk that Franco posed to the community.”

Did the jury intend for his sentence to be served consecutively?

She added, “This case should serve as a reminder that child sexual abuse knows no boundaries, cutting across every segment of society, and over 90 percent of the time is perpetrated by someone the child knows and trusts. They often have no criminal history, occupy positions of trust within the community and are experts at manipulating not only the victim, but also those around the victim.”

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A judge set bail at $500,000 for a woman accused of sexually abusing a boy, a non-verbal teenager, and three dogs. A Clark County grand jury indicted Cynthia Lynn Medina, 40, on Wednesday after police said they found graphic videos of Medina sexually abusing the two children and the animals. Medina is charged with a total of 16 crimes, including three counts each of sexual assault and preparing, advertising, or distributing materials depicting child sexual abuse material, two counts of lewdness with a child under the age of 14, and one count of incest, which are all felonies, and seven counts of bestiality, which is a gross misdemeanor, according to the indictment. The mother committed the crimes from Aug. 2020 to Dec. 2025, the indictment stated.

The 8 News Now Investigators obtained court records and two police reports detailing extremely disturbing allegations.

Police obtained a warrant for Medina's cellphone and found "two terabytes of information containing disturbing videos and over 200,000 videos of pornography," according to a report.

Police said they found videos of Medina sexually abusing both child victims. Videos of one victim were taken while the victim was 1 year old and 5 years old; the other victim was 16 years old when the videos of them were recorded, the report stated.

Police found multiple videos in which Medina was committing sexual acts with two pitbulls and a French bulldog, according to a report. In at least two videos, a man, whose name is redacted, appears to record video of Medina committing a sex act with a pitbull, and in another video, the man also appears to commit a sexual act with a dog, the report stated. It is unclear whether the man faces any charges.

"Bestiality between humans and animals is a form of torture because these animals cannot consent to the acts. They are being subjected to abuse," police wrote. "Acts like bestiality could cause emotional or behavioral issues on animals. This is not only an illegal act, but immoral."

Las Vegas Metro police began investigating after a call for service from Child Protective Services in February, according to a report. A child safety worker interviewed a 7-year-old boy after he made obscene sexual comments in the classroom, police wrote in the wrote. The child revealed details of child sexual abuse and said Medina told him not to tell anyone because then police would arrest her, according to police.

The child told a detective that Medina had sex with him because he looked like his dead father, the report stated.

In a police interview, Medina denied the allegations, detectives said. Police noted at least two previous Child Protective Services reports.

An initial arraignment is scheduled for Medina on June 18. Records show she remains in jail.

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)- A married couple from Missouri received lengthy prison sentences in connection with the sexual abuse of a 13-year-old from Virginia.

According to federal prosecutors, Justin Johiah Curtright, 41, and Christin Marie Curtright, 33, both of Springfield, Missouri, previously pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a minor and transportation of a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

Court documents stated that Justin Curtright first contacted the minor victim in 2024 through the online video chatting platform Discord. He apparently then introduced the victim to his wife. The three spoke extensively online and by phone. The victim was told not to let their family know about the conversations.

During those chats, according to court documents, the Curtrights engaged in sexually explicit acts on camera and urged the victim to do the same.

Federal prosecutors said in the couple picked up the victim near the victim's home in Virginia and drove back to Missouri. The Curtrights allegedly sexually abused the victim during the trip in the back of the couple's van. The alleged abuse continued for several days in the Curtrights' apartment.

When officers with the Springfield Police Department went to the couple's home, they found the victim hiding in the back of a closet. The victim had identification in their possession falsely represented as Justin Curtright's child.

Justin Curtright was sentenced to 45 years in federal prison. Christin Curtright was sentenced to 27 years in prison.
