Millersville leaders accept resignation of 76-year-old commissioner accused of child sex abuse

Commissioner David Gregory has been charged with sexually abusing children over the course of nearly 40 years.

MILLERSVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Update (Tuesday): Millersville leaders have accepted the resignation

of Commissioner David Gregory, 76, who’s accused of sexually abusing children for decades.

No one signed up to speak during the public comment period.

Earlier (Monday): Millersville leaders (were) set to host a meeting Tuesday afternoon amid accusations

that a city commissioner spent decades sexually abusing children. But no one showed up.

The special-called meeting will come just days after Millersville 

Commissioner David Gregory, 76, submitted his resignation 

following being charged with sexual abuse and battery.

Last week, WSMV4 obtained an indictment showing he was 

charged with one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child

and seven counts of aggravated sexual battery.

He’s accused of sexually abusing at least three children over 

the course of nearly 40 years, with the latest incident allegedly

happening earlier this year.

On June 19, an attorney for Gregory wrote a letter to commissioners

saying that Gregory “has been honored to have served the citizens of Millersville,” but that “out of

deep respect for the citizens of Millersville and his fellow Commissioners, he is tendering his resignation.”

That resignation, the letter says, is effective immediately.

Chief charged with child sex abuse

had misconduct reports at 3 departments

A police chief in Clermont County recently charged with child sex abuse has a documented history of misconduct across multiple departments, including allegations of harassment, dishonesty and a prior criminal case, according to court and disciplinary records reviewed by The Enquirer.

Chad Essert, 44, was indicted June 11 on 56 

counts of sexual battery and 14 counts of 

unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. 

He was released from a Florida jail June 18,

extradited to Ohio and is scheduled to be 

arraigned June 22.
