Eugene man arrested after child sexual abuse material found during sex offender compliance check

Deputies with the Cole County Sheriff's Office arrested a man on Tuesday in relation to an ongoing investigation involving the possession of suspected child sexual abuse material, according to a news release from the Cole County Sheriff's Office.

Shawn Swan, 51, of Eugene, was arrested in his home during a compliance check for the Tier 3 Cole County registered sex offender, which resulted in deputies finding suspected child sexual abuse material on Swan's cellphone, according to the news release and online court documents.

Investigators then obtained and executed a search warrant of the home, where additional suspected child sexual abuse material was found on other electronic devices inside the residence, according to the news release.

The Cole County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged Swan with one count of possession of child sexual abuse material — second offense, a class B felony, according to court records.

Swan previously served time in the federal prison system after pleading guilty to a federal charge of possession of child sexual abuse material in 2015 and remained on probation until January 2026, according to the news release.

Swan is being held at the Cole County Jail without bond, according to the news release.

Sex offender arrested for alleged possession of child sexual abuse material

A man was arrested Oct. 22 for possession of child sexual abuse material after a search.

Officers were dispatched to the Tippecanoe County Courthouse after a probation officer made a report in regards to Tadd A. Buster, 28, a convicted sex offender who is currently required to register as a sex offender in Indiana.

According to a probable cause affidavit from the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office, Buster had signed a Fourth Amendment waiver allowing for probation officers to conduct searches of his electronic devices as a condition of his probation.

This was due to him being convicted of felony child exploitation in December 2024.

The probation officer reportedly stated that Buster had handed over his phone for him to manually conduct a search earlier in the day. During the search, the officer reportedly located multiple child sexual abuse images depicting children under the age of 18.

After the probation officer began the search on his phone, Buster reportedly left the courthouse on foot, according to the affidavit.

Police then located him and detained him at the Lafayette Police Department for alleged possession of child sexual abuse material.

Buster had also reportedly failed to register the address of a new residence on the Tippecanoe County Sex Offender Registry.

A forensic examination of Buster’s cell phone reportedly determined that he possessed child sexual abuse images of children who appeared to be under the age of 18, under the age of 12 and under the age of two.

He is being charged with four felony counts of possession of child sexual abuse material and one felony count of failure to register as a sex or violent offender.

He is being held on a $25,000 cash bond as of Wednesday, according to the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office.
