Romania’s anti-organized crime agency, DIICOT, said it was searching four homes in Bucharest and nearby Ilfov county, investigating allegations of human trafficking, the trafficking of minors, sexual intercourse with a minor, influencing statements and money laundering. The agency added that hearings will later be held at its headquarters.

Tate’s spokesperson, Mateea Petrescu, said in response to the raids that “although the charges in the search warrant are not yet fully clarified, they include suspicions of human trafficking and money laundering” and added that his legal team is present. Petrescu did not address the allegations involving minors.
Dozens of police officers and forensic personnel were scouring Tate’s large property on the edge of the capital Bucharest. “During the entire criminal process, the investigated persons benefit from the procedural rights and guarantees provided by the Code of Criminal Procedure, as well as the presumption of innocence,” DIICOT noted in its statement..
The 37-year-old Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan, 36, are both former kickboxers and dual British-U.S. citizens who have amassed millions of social media followers. They were arrested in 2022 near Bucharest along with two Romanian women. Romanian prosecutors formally indicted all four last year. They have denied the allegations.

In April, the Bucharest Tribunal ruled that the prosecutors’ case file against the four met the legal criteria and that a trial could start but did not set a date for it to begin. That ruling came after the legal case had been discussed for months in the preliminary chamber stages, a process in which the defendants can challenge prosecutors’ evidence and case file.
After the Tate brothers’ arrest in 2022, they were held for three months in police detention before being moved to house arrest. They were later restricted to the Bucharest and Ilfov counties, and later to all of Romania.
Last month, a court overturned an earlier decision that allowed the Tate brothers to leave Romania as they await trial. The earlier court ruled on July 5 that they could leave the country as long as they remained within the 27-member European Union. The decision was final.
Andrew Tate, who is known for expressing misogynistic views online and has amassed 9.9 million followers on the social media platform X, has repeatedly claimed prosecutors have no evidence against him and that there is a political conspiracy to silence him. He was previously banned from various social media platforms for misogynistic views and hate speech.
In March, the Tate brothers also appeared at the Bucharest Court of Appeal in a separate case, after British authorities issued arrest warrants over allegations of sexual aggression in a U.K. case dating back to 2012-2015. The appeals court granted the British request to extradite the Tates to the U.K., but only after legal proceedings in Romania have concluded.
Social media influencer Andrew Tate and his brother can be extradited to the U.K. on an arrest warrant issued by British authorities, a Romanian court has ruled.
Andrew, a 37-year-old British-U.S. citizen and self-proclaimed misogynist, along with his brother Tristan Tate, were detained for 24 hours in Romania on Monday night, a representative for the Tate brothers said.
They were taken into custody for allegations of “sexual aggression” from 2012 to 2015 in the U.K., the New York Times reported.
On Tuesday, a judge at the Bucharest Court of Appeal said the brothers can be extradited only after the conclusion of their separate trial in Romania involving sex trafficking charges from 2022. Both Andrew and Tristan were released from custody Tuesday and were seen in handcuffs as they were escorted by police outside the courthouse.
The British arrest warrant stems from claims made by four women in the U.K., who have accused Andrew of sexual violence and abuse.
The accusations against Tristan are currently unclear.
Andrew’s spokesperson, Mateea Petrescu, said the charges listed in the U.K. arrest warrant had already been dismissed by the Crown Prosecution Service. The case has since been reopened, though the reasoning is not yet known.
Petrescu said the brothers “categorically reject all charges and express profound disappointment that such serious allegations are being resurrected without substantial new evidence.”
The brothers are already being investigated by Romanian authorities in a separate case involving allegations of rape, human trafficking in Romania, Britain and the U.S. and the formation of a criminal gang.
Andrew and Tristan have adamantly denied these charges, and Andrew has told his followers the investigation is a political hoax intended to silence his voice. They were ordered not to leave Romania.
A controversial albeit popular figure online, Tate is best-known for his openly misogynistic rhetoric and for flaunting his seemingly wealthy lifestyle, complete with luxury cars, private jets and designer clothing.
He’s been banned from numerous social media platforms over claims that his videos spread hateful messaging to his millions of followers, a large subset of whom were minors.

However, on X (formerly Twitter) — where his account is still active and boasts 8.9 million followers — Andrew appeared to comment on the U.K. arrest warrant as news was breaking.
“The Matrix is afraid, but I only fear God,” he wrote.
The “Matrix” is commonly used in Andrew’s self-directed lore and is in reference to the 1999 movie of the same name. Andrew has often used comparisons to The Matrix to imply that most of the general public has been brainwashed and is unable to think freely.
McCue Jury & Partners, the law firm representing the four British accusers, told The Associated Press they had urged British police to “immediately seek a warrant” for Andrew’s detention and extradition after they received information last week that he might be planning to flee Romania.
The Bedfordshire Police, which ordered the arrest warrant, said they “understand this is a distressing subject, and people may be impacted by what they are seeing in the news.”
Meanwhile, a lawyer for the Tates told the BBC, “We appreciate the Bucharest Court of Appeal’s decision to postpone the extradition of Andrew and Tristan Tate.”
“This ruling provides an opportunity for the brothers to participate fully in their defence and for the legal process to proceed in a transparent manner,” said lawyer Eugen Vidineac.
The brothers are still awaiting trial over the 2022 Romanian sex trafficking allegations. Many of the details surrounding the case are confidential. The Tates were arrested in Romania alongside two women, who also maintain their innocence in the matter.
A trial date has not been established.
Who is Andrew Tate?
Andrew, a former professional kickboxer, rose to social media fame for his showy displays of wealth and claims that he could teach young men how to become an “alpha male.”
His brazen misogyny has always made Andrew a polarizing figure online, but his platform grew when he appeared as a contestant on the British version of reality TV show Big Brother in 2016. Tate was removed from the competition after a video of him surfaced in which he can be seen attacking a woman with a belt. Both Andrew and the woman in the video have since said the act was consensual.
In the years afterward, Andrew became an idolized figure to some men who admired his anti-feminist messaging.
He also became a Muslim, which fits his personna much better than being a Christian.
Among his more famous quotes, Andrew has said it is impossible to be a realist, as he claims to be, while also believing in gender equality. He once had his X account deactivated for saying that women should “bear responsibility” for being sexually assaulted, though his account has since been reinstated.

Andrew told the BBC in 2023 that he has not harmed young people with his misogynistic views but is rather “acting under the instruction of God to do good things.”
This is not the God of the Bible, or the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
He used to run a now-defunct online coaching course, called Hustlers University, where he advertised teaching men various pickup techniques for a fee.
Prior to his arrests, Andrew claimed to be a “self-made multi-millionaire” as a result of running an adult entertainment webcam business that would see women allegedly working for him, livestreaming explicit content.
French skipper Escoffier faces investigation over sexual misconduct claims
A leading French skipper who unexpectedly quit the round-the-world Ocean Race earlier this month faces a legal probe over allegations of sexual assault against a crew member, a source in the French Sailing Federation said on Tuesday.
Kevin Escoffier, 43, announced on June 3 that he was abandoning the Ocean Race while skippering the Swiss boat PRB-Holcim after an alleged "incident" with a member of his team during a stop in Newport in the United States on May 15.
His boat had led after each of the first four legs of the race.
After investigating, the French Sailing Federation has reported the allegations to prosecutors in Paris in order to launch a legal enquiry, a source at the federation told AFP, asking not to be identified.
Federation chief Jean-Luc Denechau told AFP last week that the incident involved "inappropriate behaviour towards a woman during a night-out".
4 women accuse Andrew Tate of rape, sexual assault in civil legal papers

June 14 (UPI) -- Andrew Tatewas served legal papers Wednesday in a civil case brought by four women accusing him of rape and sexual assault.
The law firm McCue Jury & Partners said it delivered a letter to Tate, who is currently under house arrest in Romania on human trafficking charges, detailing allegations including violence against women, rape, physical assaults, and victim intimidation -- charges that are set to be presented before the high court in London in the coming weeks.
The firm said the suit seeks "justice and accountability and compensation for Tate's victims" and aims to encourage Britain to launch a "criminal investigation into Tate's crimes in the hope of his prosecution and conviction in the U.K. in addition to the charges he is facing in Romania."
The abuse occurred between 2013 and 2016 while Tate was living in Britain, court papers allege.
One of the victims claims Tate sexually assaulted her in 2014 after the pair's first meeting.
"While having sex, he began to choke me and choked me so hard that I lost consciousness," the woman said in a statement to investigators. "I thought I was going to die. When I woke up, he was continuing to rape me. It is difficult to say that because it is so upsetting, but that is what it was."
The names of victims were withheld but the legal papers drawn up by McCue Jury & Partners reveal the women are all in their late 20s and early 30s.
"Despite Tate's outrageous claims that these women aren't even real, on reading the papers, he should now recall how real they are," said Matthew Jury, a managing partner at the McCue law firm. "Talk of the 'Matrix' and 'false flags' hold no weight in court. The survivors look forward to seeing him there."
A spokesperson for Tate said he was "saddened that a few opportunistic women who he has allegedly spent time with nearly a decade ago have decided to try and take advantage of his current situation."
In late 2022, Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested on suspicion of human trafficking and forming an organized crime group, but both men were released to house arrest in April after a judge ruled against prosecutors who wanted to keep them locked up as the investigation unfolded.
Romania's anti-organized crime unit said it had increased the charges against Tate to "human trafficking in continued form" and another victim was added to the case.
A criminal indictment could come down later this month, with the Tate brothers facing more than a decade in prison if found guilty of strong-arming victims in an effort to create a paid pornography service for social media platforms.
Tate has denied the charges, and reacted defiantly when the civil case documents were served at his home on Wednesday, officials said.

Police in Alberta have issued warrants for Nathan Chasing Horse, a former actor in the movie Dances With Wolves, for nine charges including sexual exploitation, sexual assault and removing a child from Canada under the age of 16.
Tsuut'ina Nation Police Service said in a news release that the investigation has spanned several years with one of the offences dating back to 2005.
They must be working on Indian time.
The actor has been in jail in Las Vegas since his arrest in January in southern Nevada, where he is charged with 18 felonies, including sexual assault of a minor, child abuse and kidnapping.
Court documents say he was the leader of a cult-like group called The Circle. Documents allege he used his position to gain the trust of Indigenous families and their children, and take underage wives.
The Nevada prosecution was put on pause as the actor, who played young Sioux character Smiles a Lot in Kevin Costner's 1990 Oscar-winning film, appealed to the state's Supreme Court to dismiss the case.
His lawyers have argued that his accusers wanted to have sex with him.
Chasing Horse is also facing criminal charges in Montana and British Columbia.
The U.S. arrest report alleges a British Columbia woman reported Chasing Horse to RCMP, who contacted Las Vegas police, prompting the investigation that led to his arrest.
The woman alleged she was 13 years old when she met the actor while he was performing ceremonies in Canada. She alleges he began to have sex with her when she was 17.
Tsuut'ina police, who serve the First Nation west of Calgary, said the prosecution of Chasing Horse in different legal jurisdictions has required significant planning and co-operation. In 2015, the Tsuut'ina band council passed a resolution banning the actor from all community events.
More information on the Alberta investigation is to be released Wednesday.
U.S. arrest documents detailed how the Alberta police service received a complaint earlier this year from a woman who alleges she was sexually assaulted as a 15-year-old and taken to the United States as one of Chasing Horse's multiple wives.
That woman eventually returned to Canada because she could no longer take the physical and emotional abuse, the documents said.
A major influencer in Social Media, Andrew Tate, admitted in October 2022, that he had converted to Islam. This was an easy choice for Tate who previously claimed to be Christian, then atheist, then Christian again.

Romanian court rejects bail request from Andrew Tate

March 14 (UPI) -- Social media influencer Andrew Tate will remain in prison after a Romanian court denied his appeal against a 30-day extension of his detention.
Tate, 36, a British-U.S. citizen has been in prison since late December after being arrested in Bucharest on suspicion of organized crime and human trafficking. He appealed a Bucharest judge's ruling from February that required Tate to stay in prison for 30 more days.
After a morning hearing Tuesday at the Bucharest Tribunal, a judge rejected Tate's bail request, said Ramona Bolla, a spokesperson for Romania's anti-organized crime agency DIICOT, according to The Independent.
Tate has now lost three appeals related to his prison stay. The Independent reported that a January court document explaining a previous arrest extension noted "the possibility of them evading investigations cannot be ignored," and said they might "leave Romania and settle in countries that do not allow extradition."
Tate has lived in Romania since 2017 and has been banned from several social media platforms for misogyny and hate speech.
In December, Tate, his brother, Tristan, and two Romanian women were arrested, although none of the four have been charged yet.
DIICOT has said that six victims in the human trafficking case who were allegedly subjected to "acts of physical violence and mental coercion" and sexually exploited by members of the alleged crime group.
The victims were allegedly lured with pretenses of love and later intimidated, placed under surveillance and subjected to other control tactics while being coerced into engaging in pornographic acts for the financial gain of the crime group.
