Two Halifax lesbians were brutally attacked by a mob of Muslim men believed to be from Syria.

The women, Emma MacLean and Tori Hogan, were celebrating a birthday June 22 in the city’s downtown area at about 1:30 a.m. local time, when the group of about a dozen Middle Eastern men verbally accosted them with rude comments about their sexuality. 

Hogan told the men to back off. 

“Hey, watch your mouth, that's my girlfriend,” she shouted at the men as she turned to pursue them, per Saltwire. 

The men then began assaulting Hogan. 

The mob surrounded the women and pushed one to the ground while holding the other back. 

McClean, who suffered a broken nose, chipped tooth, and several bruises, confirmed the men were Middle Eastern and she “believed (them) to be from Syria.” She said she believes they were approximately between the ages of 18 and 24.

She told CTV she saw Hogan “being pushed on the stairs right in front of the BMO Centre.”

“They are cement stairs, and she's on her back — that's when all the men started punching and kicking,” she said. 

The term "men" is used very loosely here. I don't remember ever hearing of a group of Canadian men beating up a couple  of women. Sexually abusing women when drunk - yes, unfortunately, but beating up women for the fun of it does not describe any Canadian 'man' that I know.

Hogan, who sustained a black eye and bruising on her body, was “basically flying through the air.” 

McLean first yelled at the attackers to stop but she was ignored, so she put one of them “in a chokehold.” 

“All at once they all just swarmed her and started punching and kicking her in the ribs. Then I kind of got into my fight or flight,” she said, per Saltwire. 

Trying to protect Hogan, she “basically jumped on one of their backs and put them in a chokehold - trying to restrain them.”

Video footage shows the group of men kicking one of the women on the ground while restraining the other. 

Passerby called the police, but the fight was over before they arrived. When officers spoke to the men, they blamed the women for the fight. He was the only one to give his identity to authorities. The other attackers refused, McLean said. 

“Clearly, they picked (Hogan) out,” said McLean.

“She's a more masculine-presenting lady than I am, so I think they thought they had the go ahead — she was fair game for them,' she said.

Both women play rugby and McLean has a background in martial arts. 

No charges have been laid against the assailants, police told CTV,  but the investigation is ongoing. 

“(Incidents) motivated by hate toward a specific group (are taken) very seriously,” Halifax Regional Police said in a statement. 

Authorities noted people who “find themselves exposed to behavior that is offensive, threatening or intimidating” should report it to police. 

“Even if the investigation does not find criminal wrongdoing in that specific incident, it is important to have it on record as part of the collective effort to identify trends and prevent violence,” said police.

If this doesn't result in charges, police will have a hard time convincing people to trust them.

In the Qur’an, a mysterious figure, known as Khidr in Islamic tradition, kills a boy in an apparently random and gratuitous attack. He then explains: “And as for the boy, his parents were believers, and we feared that he would overburden them by transgression and disbelief. And according to Islamic law, “retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right.” However, “not subject to retaliation” is “a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring.” (Reliance of the Traveller o1.1-2).

Muslims commit 91 percent of honor killings worldwide. The Palestinian Authority gives pardons or suspended sentences for honor murders. Iraqi women have asked for tougher sentences for Islamic honor murderers, who get off lightly now. Syria in 2009 scrapped a law limiting the length of sentences for honor killings, but “the new law says a man can still benefit from extenuating circumstances in crimes of passion or honour ‘provided he serves a prison term of no less than two years in the case of killing.’” And in 2003 the Jordanian Parliament voted down on Islamic grounds a provision designed to stiffen penalties for honor killings. Al-Jazeera reported that “Islamists and conservatives said the laws violated religious traditions and would destroy families and values.”

After the violent death of a 34-year-old woman in Göttingen, an arrest warrant was issued against her husband on Monday. There is strong suspicion of manslaughter, said senior public prosecutor Andreas Buick about the judge’s decision. The accused remains silent about the allegations.

The Göttingen public prosecutor’s office accuses the 39-year-old man of being responsible for the death of his estranged wife. The woman was found lifeless with serious injuries in an apartment in an apartment building in the Grone district early on Sunday morning after an emergency call. An emergency doctor could only determine death. The suspected perpetrator was arrested on site without resistance. In addition to another emergency call, he is also said to have notified the emergency services himself.

Information about the crime and a possible motive as well as the exact cause of death remained unclear on Monday. Information about a possible murder weapon cannot be provided for the time being for tactical reasons, said Chief Public Prosecutor Buick. According to him, the victim and the alleged perpetrator are Syrian nationals.

A German police chief has warned women not to drink alcohol or use drugs after the gang rape of an 18-year-old girl in Freiburg, Magazine Der Spiegel reports. 

“We cannot offer citizens an all-risk insurance [against crime], but I can advise this: Don’t make yourself vulnerable by using alcohol or drugs,” Freiburg’s police chief Bernhard Rotzinger said.

On 14 October a German teen girl was raped by seven Syrians and a man with a German passport. The girl’s drink was allegedly drugged at a techno party and she was gang raped outside the disco.

The terrible incident shocked the inhabitants of Freiburg, a university town in the south east of Germany.

Two years ago the town was also rocked by the rape murder of the 19-year-old German teen Maria Ladenburger by Afghan asylum seeker Hussein K.

Other parts of Germany have been plagued by migrant (sex) attacks as well. After several joggers were assaulted the German TV even advised to choose safe routes, to stay alert and to hold a safety distance of seven meters.

And after the massive sex attack on 1200 women during NYE in Cologne mayor Henriette Rekr said to “stay away from an arm of strangers” and not leave their group of friends, even if they wanted to party.

The focus on prevention is a good thing, but also shows how German authorities and media barely hold the migrant crisis responsible for the disaster that is unfolding in Germany.

Political correctness has caused officials to put the blame for the criminal acts on the women instead of Merkel’s guests.

Of course, it is not politically correct to blame women for their own rape, gang-rape or murder, but hiding the truth about the dangers of migrant men toward young German women, is obviously higher on the PC chain of insanity. 

ISIS Publicly Burns Alive 19 Kurdish Women for Rejecting Sex Slavery – Report

Fighters of the terrorist group Islamic State have publicly executed 19 Kurdish women, local activists in Mosul reported. They were burned alive in iron cages in one of the city squares, sources told Kurdish ARA News agency.

The women, who belonged to the Kurdish Yezidi minority, were executed on Thursday, according to witnesses in Mosul, the Iraqi stronghold of IS (formerly known as ISIS).

“They were punished for refusing to have sex with IS militants,” local media activist Abdullah al-Malla told ARA News.

Hundreds of local residents witnessed the brutal execution, but could not do anything about it, he added.

IS, an Iraq, Syria and Libya-based terrorist group, adheres to what it believes to be a pure version of Islam. They justify their numerous crimes, including cruel forms of capital punishment, by the tenets of the religion.

Sunni Muslims living in territories under their control are forced to live by IS rules or be expelled or killed. Ethnic and religious minorities are being harshly persecuted. The Yezidis, an ethnic group that has its own synthetic religion and are considered devil-worshipers by extremist Muslims, are among those suffering under IS.

Thousands of Kurdish women captured by IS fighters were forced to become sex slaves to the militants. Those who managed to escape or were freed said that the women are raped, traded around, often denied food or rest and otherwise mistreated. IS leadership produced manuals for their men on what they should and should not be doing to their captives.

Christian women are also harshly treated by IS. They have responded by creating brigades of women to fight IS.

The head of Cologne's police force is leaving his post "to restore public trust in the police" following scores of attacks on women in the city on New Year's Eve.

The police's handling of the night's events has been sharply criticised.

The violence outside the main railway station has sparked a debate about Germany's open door policy on migrants.

The anti-immigration Pegida group has said it will hold a demonstration in Cologne on Saturday. Police are expecting around 1,000 people to gather in front of the city's main train station, German media reports say.

Gangs of men described as of North African and Arab appearance were reported to be behind the attacks on New Year's Eve. A group of about 1,000 had gathered at the station in the western city.

Victims described chaos as dozens of sexual assaults and robberies were carried out with little apparent response from the authorities.

Police did make some arrests in the early hours of New Year's Day. Federal authorities say they have identified 18 asylum-seekers among 31 suspects linked to crimes committed in Cologne on New Year's Eve.

The suspects include nine Algerians, eight Moroccans, four Syrians, five Iranians, two Germans and one each from Iraq, Serbia and the US.

The state interior minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Ralf Jaeger said on Friday that he had suspended police chief Wolfgang Albers from his duties. He has been accused of holding back information about the attacks, in particular about the origin of the suspects.

Mr Jaeger said the removal would not affect the investigation into the events of 31 December.

"People rightly want to know what happened on New Year's Eve, who the perpetrators are and how such events can be prevented in future," he said.

Discomfort under the surface :German media reaction

Debating rules on deporting criminals is a distraction, writes Heribert Prantl in the Sueddeutsche Zeitung. The law already provides for the deportation of criminal refugees, he says - the problem is the mistakes made by the police on the night and their inability to enforce the law.

Writing in the Frankfurter Allgemeiner Zeitung, Christian Geyer largely agrees. Whether or not Syrians, Afghans and Iraqis with asylum seeker status were among the perpetrators changes nothing in the debate, he writes. The questions for the police and justice system remain the same.

And while Chancellor Merkel's asylum policies are controversial, she doesn't need the help of favourable police reports, he adds.

Chancellor Merkel's friendly face is gone, writes Philipp Wittrock in Der Spiegel. The chancellor recognised that the events in Cologne had the potential to sow mistrust, divide society, and damage her political standing.

Discomfort in her own party at her welcoming asylum seekers continues to bubble under the surface, he writes.

The federal police is responsible for the station itself but not the area nearby.

Separately, Cologne police are investigating 21 people in connection with the sexual assaults. It is not known how many of these are asylum seekers.

The state police have recorded 170 complaints of crimes, 117 of which involve sexual assault. There were two allegations of rape.

Two men, aged 16 and 23 and apparently of North African origin, arrested overnight on Thursday in connection with the sex attacks, have been released without charge, according to German media.

'Clear signals'

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has condemned the violence, saying Germany should examine whether enough was being done to ensure foreigners convicted of crimes in the country are deported.

She said "clear signals" had to be sent to those not prepared to abide by German law.

In a separate case, police have arrested four Syrians, aged between 14 and 21, over the suspected gang rape of two teenage girls in the southern German town of Weil am Rhein on New Year's Eve, according to German media.

The attack is not believed to be connected to the events in Cologne, the police statement said.

The identification of the attackers in Cologne as North African or Arab in appearance has caused alarm in Germany because of the influx of more than a million migrants and refugees in the past year.

There has also been outrage outside Germany, with Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico calling for an extraordinary EU summit on the influx of migrants.

Politicians were continuing "to trivialise - even after the attacks in Cologne and other European cities - the security risks associated with unregulated and uncontrolled migration within the EU," he said.

Meanwhile German officials have warned that anti-immigrant groups have been trying to use the attacks to stir up hatred.

Similar attacks to those seen in Cologne were also reported in Hamburg and in Stuttgart.

In Finland, police said they received reports of "widespread sexual harassment" in Helsinki on New Year's Eve, which they described as "a completely new phenomenon"

Police in the Swedish city of Kalmar have arrested two men over complaints by at least 15 women of sexual molestation

Austrian Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner pledged that police would take a "no tolerance" approach towards sexual assault after complaints of attacks in the city of Salzburg

Police in the Swiss city of Zurich said about six women had reported being robbed and sexually assaulted on New Year's Eve in attacks "a little bit similar" to those in Germany
