Two New Yorkers, a Newfie and a Former Oregon Councilman on Today's P&P List

Care-giver sentenced to 88 years to life for
child sex abuse
Will Cleveland

The Rochester man convicted of sexually abusing six children was sentenced Tuesday to 88 years to life in state prison.

Keith Wilcox, 60, was convicted last month of 34 counts of sexually abusing children between the ages of 11 and 16 over a five-year period at his Tacoma Street home. He was sentenced by state Supreme Court Justice Francis Affronti.

Wilcox abused six children in his care after convincing the parents, mostly mothers, of these children that he would house and care for them like a father would.

He was convicted of two counts of predatory sexual assault against a child, both Class A felonies. Those were the most serious charges he was facing, Monroe County Senior Assistant District Attorney Kyle Rossi said. Assistant District Attorney Leslie Schildt also prosecuted the case.

Wilcox's co-defendant Andre Lomax, 51, was already convicted of second-degree criminal sex act. He was sentenced to seven years in state prison.

Rossi said the investigation uncovered more victims "over decades," but those instances couldn't be prosecuted due to the statute of limitations.

"It's an enormous sentence," Rossi said. "The goal was to make sure this guy could never hurt anyone again. The court definitely delivered a very thoughtful sentence that ensures that."

Rossi also applauded the strength and the courage demonstrated by the victims in testifying against Wilcox.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A former councilman for the Clackamas County city of Estacada has been sentenced to eight years in prison for sexually abusing a young relative.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports that 34-year-old Curt Steininger was sentenced Tuesday after pleading no contest to sex abuse charges.

His alleged victim had reported to police that Steininger repeatedly touched her genitals and forced her to touch him inappropriately starting in 2008, when she was 6.

Steininger, an Oregon Army National Guard veteran, had won a seat on the Estacada City Council in 2012 before resigning in 2014.

He spoke briefly in court before being cut off by his attorney after he told the victim's mother he didn't forgive her.

Attorney Richard Cohen says his client will get treatment for a drug addiction while in custody.

Sedgwick County jurors have returned a guilty verdict against a former Wichita hockey player charged with sexually abusing a 9-year-old.

Michael A. Chighisola, 49, was convicted Friday of two counts of rape and one count of aggravated criminal sodomy of a child younger than 14, according to Dan Dillon, spokesman for the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office. Jurors acquitted him of four additional counts: two of rape and two of aggravated criminal sodomy.

The crimes took place in 2008 after the passage of Jessica’s Law, which strengthened penalties for some child sex offenders. That means Chighisola could be ordered to serve a sentence of life in prison on each conviction.

Chighisola joined the Wichita Thunder in 1995 and was a top scorer that season but was suspended after he stole money from his teammates in January 1996. He did not play a complete season.

He remains jailed in lieu of $100,000 bond, according to online jail records. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

for child sex abuse

BETTENDORF, Iowa (AP) — A Bettendorf man has been sentenced to up to 30 years in prison for sexually abusing a child younger than 12 over a three-year period.

21-year-old Joshua Daniel Morales pleaded guilty in June to three counts of lascivious acts with a child.

Morales was sentenced Thursday to up to 10 years in prison on each count. The sentences will run back-to-back.

In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors dismissed one count of second-degree sexual abuse, a felony punishable by up to 25 years.

Now that is a good plea bargain! Not like so many I have seen where the pervert gets away with half or more of the evil he did.

Prosecutors say the Scott County Sheriff’s Department received a report Jan. 7 of a sexual assault that happened between 2012 and 2015.

Investigators say Morales was 17 and the child was 7 when the abuse began.
