Canada's Pathetic Justice System > Liberals will attempt to toughen sentences and bail conditions for violent offenders

Liberals urged to increase penalties for intimate partner violence, murder

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre called on other parties Tuesday to support a private member’s bill he said would combat intimate partner violence — just as a new report tracks how the problem has grown in recent years.

“There are countless who have lost their lives because Liberal laws have turned their perpetrators loose on our streets,” Poilievre said outside the House of Commons.

“We want to work with any party to get this bill passed to protect people. We encourage every party to join with us. It doesn’t matter who gets the credit — let’s do the right thing now.”

Poilievre’s statement came after Statistics Canada released a report showing reports of intimate partner violence increased 14 per cent between 2018 and 2024.

The report also notes women and girls remain overrepresented in those statistics. The number of women suffering intimate partner violence in 2024 was 3.5 times higher than the number of men.

Poilievre blamed the caseload on what he claimed was the federal Liberals’ lax approach to criminal justice and called for stricter penalties.

Bill C-225, introduced by Conservative MP Frank Caputo, would automatically make the killing of an intimate partner an act of first degree murder, and bar someone arrested for an intimate partner offence from being released by a peace officer if they had been convicted of a similar offence in the previous five years.

Caputo said his bill was developed with input from victims of intimate partner violence who want to see changes to the criminal justice system.

“We believe that the government should be dealing with this right away. And if you don’t want to listen to me, that’s fine. But perhaps they will listen to the voice of Debbie,” Caputo said, introducing Debbie Henderson, whose niece was a victim of intimate partner violence.

Henderson’s niece, Bailey McCourt, was killed in July by her ex-husband. He was charged with murdering her hours after he was released on bail.

Henderson said she’s tired of seeing similar stories in the news and is demanding change through the passage of Bill C-225.

“There’s no need to wait. The next person could be you, or it could be one of your family members. And we don’t want to see any other family member go through the horror that our family has gone through,” she said, holding back tears.

During question period Tuesday, Caputo pressed the Liberals to answer if they would support the legislation.

Liberal MP Nathalie Provost, who survived the Polytechnique shooting in 1989, has suggested the government will back its own approach instead of the one proposed by the Conservatives.

“What is important is to have a broad and integrated approach and there are already bills that we have tabled and that will allow us to act,” she said during question period.

Justice Minister Sean Fraser’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Fraser said Monday that B.C. government lobbying on the McCourt case was reflected in several elements of Canada’s new bail reform legislation, adding that his government planned to table further legislation around intimate-partner violence by the end of the year.

“It will include certain changes around presumptions of first-degree murder,” Fraser told reporters at a joint press conference on the new law alongside B.C. Premier David Eby in Victoria.

“The exact terms of the provision are under development now, and we expect over the weeks to come, before the legislation is tabled, that we will finalize what that specific provision will take.”

But Fraser said he was hesitant to make specific promises about the content of that bill, adding that Ottawa remained in discussion with Eby and B.C.’s attorney general, Niki Sharma.

He wouldn’t directly answer if the forthcoming legislation would criminalize the term “femicide” and make it a first-degree murder offence, a promise Liberals made during the federal election campaign.

Eby acknowledged that Bill C-14 did not include everything that the McCourt family or he wanted, but added his government was not done yet advocating for the family.

“We continue to advocate for the reforms the family is asking for, related to a presumption around first-degree murder,” Eby said. “We raised that with the minister today.”

Bill C-14, tabled in Parliament last week, toughens sentences for several crimes and expands the burden of proof for bail from the prosecution to the accused, in a principle known as reverse onus, to cover offences including assault and sexual assault involving choking or strangulation.

James Plover is accused of second-degree murder in McCourt’s killing. Plover had been convicted of choking someone and freed on $500 bail just hours before the alleged attack on his estranged wife.

The new legislation would also remove the possibility of house arrest sentences for “serious sexual offences,” including against children.

The Statistics Canada report found nearly half of intimate partner violence victims were living with the person accused of the crime at the time of the incident.

The agency reports that most victims of intimate partner violence in 2024 were physically assaulted (72 per cent), while 9 per cent were victims of sexual offences and 7 per cent were victims of criminal harassment.

Statistics Canada says the rate of family violence against seniors has increased by 49 per cent between 2018 and last year, with 7,622 senior victims of police-reported family violence reported in 2024.

A full 36 per cent of seniors who experienced family violence last year were victimized by one of their children, the agency reports.

Child Sextortion > Violent global online group impacts Nova Scotia

Halifax youth charged with child pornography involved with violent online group: police

A Halifax, Nova Scotia, youth who is facing several child pornography charges is allegedly a member of a violent online extremist group known as 764, according to police.

The group is known to target children and youth by manipulating them into recording and sharing intimate images or taking part in acts of self-harm, violence and animal cruelty.

Halifax Regional Police (HRP) Chief Don MacLean told reporters Tuesday that the youth communicated with “hundreds” of people worldwide, but no local victims have been identified at this stage of the investigation.

“At the time of the arrest, the youth was acting as a predator in a group called 764 … a subgroup of the Com (short for community) network, which is made up of people who glorify serious violence,” MacLean said.

“I urge all parents and guardians to pay close attention to this case.”

HRP and the RCMP’s Integrated Internet Child Exploitation Unit began an investigation in May, after being alerted by the National Child Exploitation Crime Centre in Ottawa.

The youth, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been released with conditions.

Nova Scotia’s Public Prosecution Service said the accused is a 16-year-old boy, and is facing charges of accessing, distributing, and possessing child pornography, as well as distributing obscene material and inciting hatred against identifiable groups.

Dave Boon, superintendent of HRP’s Integrated Criminal Investigation Division, said more charges may be laid as the investigation progresses.

“It could be on the same youth. It could be other individuals with information we’re sharing with partners,” he said.

When asked if there were indications this particular youth had been a victim of the online group, Boon said there was no evidence of that.

“But through the course of how this network works, victims can be groomed to then become a predator online,” he added.

Not typical sextortion

RCMP’s warning about violent online groups that exploit children states that members operate virtually on social media platforms, apps and online games such as Discord, Telegram, Roblox, Minecraft, Twitch and Steam.

Parents, guardians and adults are advised to watch for warning signs: children could be using encrypted communication, have a newfound interest in Nazism or occultism, or begin showing signs of wounds, cuts and changes in mood.

The warning signs also include pets being harmed.

RCMP Sgt. Danielle Pollock of the Internet Child Exploitation Unit said 764 is part of a larger community — or Com — whose purpose “is nothing more than cause chaos amongst other youth.”

“It works off of notoriety within the Com itself, that I was able to get X, Y, and Z to do this for me. And now that nude (image or video) is actually the commodity, not the money. It’s not typical sextortion for profit,” she said.

“Most of the time, it is just for notoriety or clout within itself.”

She added that the groups emerged around 2020 during the pandemic. Since then, reports of their activity have grown alarmingly.

According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, its CyberTipline received more than 1,300 reports connected to a violent online group in all of 2024.

The U.S.-based group says they’ve received 1,000 reports in the first six months of 2025 alone.

Their data shows that most of the victims were teen girls. Of the cases where age and gender were reported, 75 per cent were between the ages of 14 and 17; 21 per cent were aged 11 to 13, and four per cent were under 10.

In terms of gender, 84 per cent of victims were female.

RCMP and Halifax police are urging parents and guardians to be aware of what their children are doing on the internet.

“Parents need to be more vigilant, and times are different. Know that these relationships that these predators make online, they groom these children for months and manipulate them into doing what they want,” said Pollack.

MacLean added that he himself has an eight-year-old grandson who plays Roblox often, and he has to keep an eye on the activity.

“I make sure that I know what he’s doing,” said MacLean.

“Many of us can’t imagine our children being pulled into a world like this. But children and youth are vulnerable, especially those who struggle with isolation and our social connections in the real world, which many do at that age.”

Former Vancouver Canuck Ryan Kesler faces criminal sexual conduct charges in Michigan

Former Vancouver Canucks centre Ryan Kesler has been charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct in Michigan.

Court records show Kesler, 41, was arraigned via Zoom on Monday in Bloomfield Hills District Court and pleaded not guilty to both misdemeanour charges.

The offences are alleged to have occurred on Jan. 1 in Orchard Lake, Mich.

Bond was set at US$50,000, with a 10 per cent deposit, and Kesler was ordered not to leave Michigan without court permission. He must also appear for all scheduled hearings.

Voyeurism and Sexual Exploitation Charges Lead to 20-Year Sentence for Former South Carolina Youth Pastor

A former South Carolina youth pastor has been sentenced to 20 years in prison under the maximum sentence for the federal charge of possessing child pornography, according to court records.
Daniel Kellan Mayfield, 37, who served as youth pastor at Gowensville First Baptist Church from 2016 to 2023, pleaded guilty to possessing child sex abuse material in December 2024 after being arrested in 2023 for dozens of charges of voyeurism and sexual exploitation. The material included photos with Mayfield personally taken of women and children while they changed or showered in church bathrooms, The Roys Report reported.
He also faces more than 100 voyeurism and sexual abuse-related charges under state law in the counties of Greenville, Spartanburg, Greenwood, Beaufort, and Charleston, the Greenville News reported. According to officials, Mayfield had 5,344 explicit images on his phone, which his family discovered after he recorded his former sister-in-law, Carly Hall, in the shower in 2023, WRDW-TV Channel 12 reported.
Mayfield was confronted by Hall, who called 911, after she discovered the explicit images of herself and others.
“I thought I was just going to get my video off and delete it wherever it was on the phone, cloud, Google Drive, anything,” Hall told WYFF 4, an NBC affiliate. “So, I searched pretty much throughout the whole phone, but it didn’t take long to see the next thing.”
She also found photos of dozens of women, children, and even her 2-month-old baby on his devices.
“He did have cameras in several houses that I was in,” Hall noted. “He would plant cameras there, but then also just his regular cellphone. He would have it out any time that I was in his presence. It was always on film.”
In a 2024 statement by Spartanburg Police, Mayfield also took photos at wedding venues where he was the contracted photographer and videographer. He had also admitted to filming a woman in 2023 while she was in the shower at her mother’s house, KCBD News Channel 11 reported.
Mayfield’s ex-wife and members of his former church, however, said Mayfield lived a double life and denied they were aware of his actions. Al Phillips, who alleged that Mayfield victimized his grandkids, told WYFF that he believed Mayfield's sentence was fair.
“I’m a Christian. I forgive. I also understand that even with forgiveness, there are often consequences for our sin,” Phillips said. “I do believe in the justice system and seeing his sentence through. I believe the consequence does need to happen.”
He contended that Mayfield’s actions robbed “the innocence” from his grandchildren and breached their trust.

Islamic Madness > Islam's astonishingly evil attitude toward women

What's astonishing is that women continue to support Islam. Go figure!

Islamic regime imam: “Women are animals created by Allah to be used by men. Women are no different from cows, sheep, horses, or mules. God made women resemble humans so they wouldn’t frighten men.” Why do they hate women so much?
