A YOUNG woman was stabbed to death with a metal spike then dumped "like rubbish" by her uncle in an honour killing, a court heard.
Mohammed Taroos Khan, 53, allegedly killed Somaiya Begum, 20, at her home in Bradford in June last year.
At the time, the student was subject to a court-mandated Forced Marriage Protection Order following attempts by her dad to force her to marry her cousin, it was said.
Jurors were told after using an 11cm-long 'Bradawl' tool -- a sharpened metal woodwork implement - to kill his niece, Khan "bundled up" her body using a rug and string.
He then allegedly left her to "rot and decompose" on wasteland "like rubbish" before she was found 11 days later.
Somaiya's body was "infested with maggots" with the spike still embedded in her chest.
Prosecutor Jason Pitter KC said: "She had met a traumatic death following a violent attack at her home, the nature of which was demonstrated by the metal spike which was embedded in her."
Bradford Crown Court was told Khan has admitted perverting the course of justice by disposing of her body and destroying her phone, which was found in a nearby smouldering bin.
He was also seen on CCTV dragging an "apparently heavy item" from his car onto the wasteland, which prosecutors allege was Somaiya.
When shown the footage, Khan claimed he "had some garbage and had been dumping it".
Mr Pitter said: "In fact, that 'garbage', to use his word, was Somaiya."
Jurors were told Somaiya was living with her grandmother and another relative under the terms of a Forced Marriage Protection Order.
This was due to attempts by her father to force her to marry a cousin from Pakistan "by threat of violence", it was said.
The court heard Khan was subject to restraining order prohibiting him from attending the address that had been in place since 2016.
This was due to a conviction for punching his own daughter before holding a knife to her throat and threatening to "chop her up".
Mr Pitter said Khan denies murdering his niece and "it must follow that he is saying that someone or others are responsible for killing her".
The prosecutor said it may be his defence "advances issues in relation to the family's culture and religion which may have been the misguided justification to kill her".
He added: "We suppose in the context of the inappropriately named 'honour killing'.
"Whatever it was …. it was not honourable."
Khan denies murder but has admitted perverting the course of justice.
The trial continues.

The public prosecutor's office in Chemnitz has accused a Libyan. He is suspected of raping and robbing a 73-year-old in Chemnitz.
As the authorities announced on Friday, the 37-year-old is said to have entered the woman's apartment via the balcony shortly before midnight on November 28. He threatened her with a pair of scissors, attacked her and injured her.
The man then forced his victim to give him money, jewelry, a bank card and other items and fled, the indictment says. When he wanted to break into a vehicle a little later, he was caught by a police patrol. After a short chase, the Libyan was arrested and has been in custody ever since.
It is not yet clear when he will be tried. If convicted, the suspect faces up to several years in prison.
Muslim Community leader jailed for 15 years for child sex offences

A trusted 'community figurehead' found guilty of multiple serious sexual offences against children has been jailed for 15 years.
Yusuf Sacha, 69, was sentenced after being found guilty in a trial of numerous offences including rape, indecent assault and indecency with a child.
Sacha had stood trial in January charged with offences committed over three decades ago. The offences took place against multiple victims who were children at the time.
He was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court today (Tuesday).
Enquiries into Sacha’s offending began in 2019 after Kirklees Police received a report from a now adult victim, disclosing the abuse suffered.
Sacha, of Broomsdale Road, Batley, was arrested in February 2021 and later charged in October of the same year.
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Thornes, of Kirklees Police, said: “We welcome the sentencing of Sacha today for very serious sexual offences.
“In committing these awful offences he abused his status as a community figurehead and the trust that brought him in the most appalling way.
“We can only assume that in his arrogance he must have assumed his victims would not have the courage to speak out.
“Instead their bravery in coming forward has exposed his offending and allowed authorities to bring a serial child sex offender to justice.”
DCI Thornes, added: “West Yorkshire Police always investigates all reports of sexual assault, no matter when the offence may have occurred, and puts the needs of victims at the heart of investigations.
“I would encourage anyone who has been a victim of a sexual assault and not reported it, for whatever reason, to contact us.”
