A California man was arrested for allegedly possessing more than 900 child pornography images after his wife found a hidden camera in their home and contacted authorities.

Ryan Rovito, 34, was confronted by his wife on March 8 after she discovered the camera in their home’s guest bathroom, according to the Redding Police Department.

He admitted to knowing about the camera and said he would throw it away, but his wife had seized it and the hard drive it was connected to.

His wife contacted police over concerns that he had recorded their young children using the bathroom.

Police obtained a search warrant for the devices and detectives performed a preliminary forensic analysis in which more than 900 images of child pornography and multiple videos from the bathroom camera were found.

The videos showed children and adults using the bathroom who appeared to be unaware that they were being recorded, police said.

An arrest warrant was obtained on March 9 and police arrested Rovito during a traffic stop.

Ravito was charged in connection with the possession of child pornography and the surreptitious recording of an identifiable person who was undressed.

He was booked into the Shasta County Jail.

Good mom. Children should always come first, but all too often don't.

J’can gets 50-year sentence for sexually abusing foster children

A Jamaican man residing in the United States, who sexually abused two of his foster children over a two-year period, has been ordered to serve 50 years in prison.

Eric Norman Stewart
, 66, of Missouri City, Texas, will have to serve his sentence “day for day” under state law, the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office said in a public statement about the case.

Stewart was born in Jamaica, the district attorney’s office confirmed in response to questions submitted by The Gleaner on Thursday, but gave no additional background information.

Gordon Dees, the attorney who represented Stewart, said he would feel “uncomfortable” talking about his client’s “situation” when asked about Stewart’s Jamaican background.

“I will be seeing him in the next few days. I would be more than happy to say I was contacted by someone, but I’m really not at liberty to discuss his case,” Dees said during a brief interview.

A jury found Stewart guilty of continuous sexual abuse of a young child on March 9 and deliberated for an hour before agreeing on his punishment.

He is a former employee of the Department of Family and Protective Service and authorities say Stewart had established a group home at his Missouri City residence that fostered and adopted several children.

Prosecutors Alycia Curtis and Craig Priesmeyer led evidence during the trial that Stewart sexually abused two girls – a nine-year-old and a 12-year-old – inside his home for more than two years, starting in 2016.

Curtis, in a statement released by the district attorney’s office, blasted Stewart for betraying his role as a father and an employee of an agency that was established to keep children safe.

“All children deserve to feel safe in their homes. As a voice for our community, the jury made it clear that there are severe consequences for those who abuse our most vulnerable,” the prosecutor said.

Priesmeyer praised the young victims for their courage.

Salinas man sentenced to 50 years in prison for 5 counts

of child molestation

SALINAS, Calif. (KION0-TV)- A Salinas man was sentenced to 50 years in prison after being found guilty of five counts of child molestation, announced Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine M. Pacioni on Wednesday.

These five counts of forcible lewd acts with a child under 14 years of age are considered violent strikes, so Angel De Jesus Carmonona, 31, will have to register as a sex offender for life.

Angel De Jesus - Angel of God?

De Jesus Carmonona had sexually assaulted Jane Doe, who he was living with, over several years, said Pacioni. In May of 2022, his victim told her mother about the sexual abuse that had happened since she was nine years old.

The mother believed her daughter, confronted De Jesus Carmonona and recorded him admitting to what he did to Jane Doe. As part of a plea, De Jesus Carmonona admitted he took advantage of a position of trust to commit these crimes, said Pacioni.

Judge Hulsey commended Jane Doe for having the courage to disclose what happened to her and said, "she is going to survive, and she is going to have a bright future.”

A San Luis Obispo County man was sentenced Thursday to 250 years to life in state prison for sexually abusing three children, according to the county District Attorney’s Office. In January, a San Luis Obispo jury found Craig Anthony Grunow, 57, guilty of 11 crimes of sexual abuse of the children, including one county of sexual intercourse with a child under 10 years old and 10 counts of committing a lewd act on a child under 14 years old. The crimes occurred between August 2018 and August 2021 at Grunrow’s home in the Heritage Ranch area of rural San Luis Obispo County, the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release Thursday.

All three victims were present at Thursday’s sentencing, the District Attorney’s Office said in the release. One submitted a written impact statement, the release said, while two family members spoke to the court about the impact Grunrow’s acts had on the survivors and their family.

San Luis Obispo Superior Court Judge Timothy S. Covello, who sentenced Grunrow, praised the victims’ testimony. “They were poised. They were truthful. They were courageous,” Covelllo said in court.

“California law still protects its most vulnerable citizens by authorizing a sentence of life imprisonment for this type of child molestation case,” District Attorney Dan Dow said in the news release. “This sentence should ensure that this predator is never able to harm a child again. The bravery of these young survivors should encourage all other victims of sexual abuse to report and seek help from law enforcement.”

According to the release, the case was investigated by the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation and Child Abuse Interview Team. The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Danielle Baker, who was assigned to the District Attorney’s Sexual Violence Unit.

PIKE COUNTY, Ala (WDHN)After a lengthy investigation, the Pike County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 32-year-old Brundidge man and charged him with 36 counts of child sex crimes.

According to Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas, on Thursday, March 30, David Benton was arrested and charged with 13 charges of sex abuse on a child less than 12 years old, 4 counts of sodomy first degree, 18 counts of production of child pornography, and one count of rape first degree.

Sheriff Thomas says after his office received the initial tip about the crime, which involved a child under the age of twelve, an investigation was started and with the help of the Pike County District Attorney’s Office, authorities were able to find evidence of the crimes on Benton’s phone.

Benton is being held in the Pike County Jail with no bond.

I want to thank the DA James Tarbox for that and working with the judge to secure no bond because this predator no longer needs to live in our society and be a threat to children. We intend to work with the DA’s office to prosecute him.

RUSSELL THOMAS, PIKE COUNTY SHERIFF
