South Dakota man facing 150 charges after sexually exploiting Hamilton Co. minor, police say
A South Dakota man who previously lived in Hamilton County is facing 150 child sexual exploitation-related charges after having inappropriate exchanges with a 12-year-old over text.
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office started investigating the case back in October of 2024 after a family member of the victim came forward, according to an affidavit obtained by Local 3 News.
The family member told officials that Uriel Guerra Lopez, 22, was sending sexually illicit videos to the child and requesting her to produce child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
The suspect, then 21, communicated with the victim between June 2024 and September 2024.
The mom of the child confronted the suspect through text message, providing screenshots of what he had sent: "youre a pedo and we have proof," she said. "Your life is over boy!"
Lopez reportedly texted back "I deleted everything of [the victim's], look I'm serious I did delete everything."
During a forensic interview with the victim later, authorities learned that Lopez ordered a sex toy online and sent it to the child.
HCSO requested assistance from the City of Sioux Falls Police Department in obtaining a search warrant for Lopez's phone.
While being questioned in the interview, he admitted to sending explicit videos, but said he censored them before sending. He also admitted to receiving CSAM.
Of course - drugs!
Lopez told detectives that he was going through a rough time when he contacted the child, and had taken mushrooms and smoked marijuana.
Uriel Lopez faces a combined 150 charges:
- Especially aggravated sexual exploitation of minor (x49)
- Solicitation of a minor to observe sexual content (x49)
- Sexual exploitation of a minor by electronic means (x26)
- Unlawful exposure (x26)
He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, September 15.

The suspect was identified as Alyssa Carranza, 31, of Oxnard, according to the Oxnard Police Department. Carranza is accused of targeting five victims who were aged 4 to 16 years old at the time.
The alleged crimes took place between 2012 and 2022 and are believed to have occurred within Oxnard, police said.

Since then, detectives have identified another victim in connection with the case.
On Sept. 10, Carranza was arrested and charged with an additional felony of conducting a lewd act upon a minor. She posted a $450,000 bond and was released with a court date scheduled for Sept. 24.
Investigators are working to locate any additional victims who have not come forward. No further details, including how the victim and suspects were known to each other, were released. Detectives did not release her booking photo.
