Pasadena fire captain arrested, accused of child sexual abuse crimes, police say
PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- Christopher Ramstead, a fire captain with the Pasadena Fire Department, was arrested for child sexual abuse crimes, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police have not released further details, but according to the arrest code, it alleges "continuous" sexual abuse against a child. It is unclear if this involves a single child or multiple alleged victims.Ramstead was arrested Wednesday night while he was off-duty. The 47-year-old was released Thursday after posting a high bond of $550,000.
The city of Pasadena says it is aware of the arrest and says the alleged crimes occurred "outside the scope" of his official duties as a firefighter.
Ramstead was first hired by the city back in 2005 and was promoted to fire captain in 2016.
He was put on immediate administrative leave and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 26, 2026.
The city of Pasadena released the following statement:
"The City of Pasadena is aware of the arrest of a Pasadena Fire Captain while off-duty. The alleged incident(s) occurred outside the scope of the employee's official duties. The Fire Captain was immediately put on administrative leave while the investigation(s) take place. Due to active investigation(s) the City cannot comment any further."
Ju-Jitsu instructor in charged with sexual abuse of teen student
A local Ju-Jitsu instructor has been charged with sexual abuse of a minor who was attending the gym where he worked.
On Friday, the St. Clair County State's Attorney's Office issued a 13-count warrant for 32-year-old Kody R. Strunk. The crimes consist of five counts of criminal sexual assault, five counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, two counts of child sexual abuse material and unlawful grooming.The Shiloh Police Department was contacted by the St. Louis County Police Department on Jan. 30 to help with the ongoing investigation of an inappropriate sexual relationship between a teenage girl and Strunk. The teen gave a statement to both departments, saying the incidents occurred at a gym and at Strunk’s home on Kathy Drive in Shiloh.
Strunk was taken into custody by Shiloh police on Wednesday and was being held at the St. Louis County Jail.
Investigators believe this was an isolated incident, but Detective Sgt. Kyle Bade with the Shiloh Police Department encouraged those aware of other victims to contact him at kbade@shilohil.org.
Charges: 'Hockey doctor' sexually abused youth players in Minnesota
Zvi Levran was charged with six counts of criminal sexual conduct stemming from his time in Otter Tail County where he served as a "hockey doctor" for youth hockey players.
Local investigators began looking into Levran after he was charged with 28 separate counts related to numerous incidents of sexual abuse in Michigan.
He was first charged in 2022 for assaulting a teenage boy during a medical examination, and after that, multiple other victims came forward.
The most recent charges stem from several alleged incidents of abuse that took place from 2014 to 2016, involving two youth hockey players when Levran was practicing medicine in Fergus Falls.
Levran is currently being held in the Oakland County Jail in Pontiac, Michigan and was sentenced to 10-25 years in prison in April 2025.
