Sullivan County man pleads guilty to predatory sexual assault of child
NEW CITY – A Sullivan County man admitted Thursday to sexually abusing a child over a period of several years in Rockland County, prosecutors said.
Joel Deutsch, 34, entered guilty pleas in Rockland County Court to predatory sexual assault of a child, course of sexual conduct against a child in the first degree and second-degree rape before Judge Kevin F. Russo.
According to prosecutors, Deutsch sexually abused a girl between 2017 and 2024 in the Village of Wesley Hills while she was between the ages of 6 and 14. Authorities said the abuse included physical contact, vaginal intercourse and oral sexual contact. Deutsch was arrested in July of last year.
Prosecutors sought the maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison, but Russo promised Deutsch a sentence of 10 years to life on the top charge of predatory sexual assault of a child. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 26, and Deutsch will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.
“My Office strongly objected to the sentence imposed yesterday as it did not reflect the gravity of the defendant’s actions,” Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II said. “The rapes and sexual abuse that the victim was subjected to was persistent and went on for several years, and we believed that the facts of this case fully justified the maximum penalty.”
Saranac Lake man sentenced in child sexual abuse case
SARANAC LAKE, N.Y. (ABC22/FOX44) – A Saranac Lake man was convicted of predatory sexual assault after an investigation into the abuse of a child, say authorities.
The Saranac Lake Police Department reports that William Strack II has been sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison.
Strack was arrested last October on 12 felony charges – of which predatory sexual assault was the only one that carried a potential life sentence.
According to authorities, federal, state, and county law enforcement were all involved in the investigation, with the Clinton Essex Franklin County Child Advocacy Center and Franklin County Child Protective Services assisting during the case.
“This sentence sends a strong message that crimes against children will not be tolerated in our community,” said Saranac Lake Police Chief Darin Perrotte. “…. These investigations are difficult and deeply disturbing, but our investigators remain committed to pursuing justice for victims and holding offenders fully accountable for their actions.”
Baxter Springs man facing child sex crime charges
CHEROKEE COUNTY, Kan. — Child sex crime charges are filed against a Baxter Springs man after authorities say he sexually assaulted two young boys.
David Plummer, 40, is charged with four counts of aggravated criminal sodomy.
He’s accused of sexually abusing two boys between the years 2020 and 2023. According to court records Plummer performed sex acts on the boys who were three and five at the time the abuse began.
He’s currently being held without bail in the Cherokee County Jail. Plummer’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 12.
