Drugs and Kids > Miracle baby saved from 2 days in a ditch by trucker

There is no mention of drugs in this story but there's a good bet that drugs were involved either directly or as a cause for possible mental illness.

1-year-old ‘miracle’ baby saved by trucker

after 2 days in ditch

A Louisiana trucker pulled off the rescue of a lifetime, after spotting a one-year-old missing “miracle baby” crawling along the ditch of a busy highway.

Authorities had been searching for the child for more than a day, after discovering his four-year-old brother dead in a nearby pond in southwest Louisiana on Monday, July 8.

On Tuesday, authorities feared the younger boy was dead, too, and were preparing to search the water in Calcasieu Parish where his older brother’s body was found. But as they got ready to search, a truck driver placed a call to 911.

“As I was going down the highway, I noticed an image to the right over an embankment and I thought maybe it was a doll that someone had thrown out the window,” trucker Reginald Walton, a driver for DHL Supply Chain, told KADN News 15 of his luck.

“But as I was passing by, I saw it move and I said ‘that looked like a baby.’”

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Gary Guillory told a news conference that the baby was taken to hospital and deemed to be in remarkably good condition, having suffered only a few bug bites.

“This kid spent two days out in the weather on the side of the highway,” said Guillory, according to The Associated Press. “Thank God that trucker seen him.”

“We look at this one-year-old as our miracle baby because he was still alive,” Guillory added.

What’s even more incredible is that the baby survived what police believe was at least two days in bad weather, as Hurricane Beryl hammered the area with intermittent heavy rain and high winds.

According to police, the baby and his brother were last seen on Saturday, July 6, with their mother, Aaliyah Jack, 25.

The circumstances surrounding the older boy’s death are not clear, and the sheriff’s office said the investigation into the case in ongoing.

“CPSO detectives are actively working to gather all the information and details surrounding this case and the death of the 4-year-old. We will dedicate all necessary resources to ensure a thorough investigation. Our hearts go out to the family members of these two children,” Guillory said in a news release.

“Detectives are continuing the investigation, and more charges are possible. The coroner will determine cause of death,” the release stated.

The boys’ mother was arrested in Mississippi and charged with failing to report the one-year-old child missing.

Where there is Honey > Deputy Sheriff - years of child sex abuse; Scout leader jailed for 3rd and last time

There is a saying in Russia - Where there is honey, there will be flies! It refers to pedophiles ability to smell out child victims and place themselves to have access to them, often in a position of responsibility. Unfortunately, it is not restricted to Russia but is everywhere there are children.

Victim's testimony helps convict sheriff's deputy after yearslong child sexual abuse

It took the girl a day of prayer to tell her mother she'd been molested. Even after she did, her abuser remained a fixture in their life for years to come.

Hannah Phillips
Palm Beach Post

Editor's note: This story contains descriptions of child sexual abuse that readers may find disturbing.

WEST PALM BEACH — Jurors convicted a Broward County sheriff's deputy of child sexual battery Thursday, moved by the testimony of the young woman he molested decades earlier.

Oshea, who asked to be identified by her first name only, cried while recounting the times that Verol Cowans violated her on the drives to Roosevelt Elementary in West Palm Beach, where she attended the third grade. She said the abuse escalated at home, where her mother's then-boyfriend showed Oshea pornography and sexually assaulted her when the two were alone.

Cowans, a 66-year-old corrections officer who now faces life in prison, remained expressionless throughout her testimony. He later took the stand to deny the charges against him, maintaining that his only crime was being an inattentive father — paying more attention to Oshea's step-siblings, his own children, than to her.

Prosecutors countered the deputy's story with a recorded phone call in which Cowans appeared to admit to the crime and offer an explanation for why he did it.

"Given the right circumstances — in law enforcement, we say 'opportunity' — if you have an intent, all you need is opportunity," Cowans told Oshea, unaware of the detective listening in. "If you have intent, you have the ability. All you need is opportunity."

Cowans had all of the above, said assistant state attorneys Karen Black and Alexa Ruggiero. Even after Oshea, then 12, told her mother of the abuse that began five years earlier, Cowans remained a fixture in their home. Her mother told jurors that the financial support Cowans provided took precedence over her daughter's safety.

The mother deserves to be jailed too.

Defense attorney claims victim confused her childhood memories of abuse

Oshea, now in her early 30s, didn't talk about the abuse again for more than a decade. She told jurors that she wanted to report Cowans before she got married and had her first child, but both milestones passed without a word to police.

It wasn’t until she moved to a different city, far from Cowans, that Oshea said she “was finally able to stand up to the monster who stole my innocence away.”

Her report to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office in 2019 triggered the response she’d expected when she told her mother years earlier. Deputies arrested Cowans while he worked at a satellite jail in Pompano Beach, pointing to incriminating statements he'd made when Oshea confronted him about the abuse in a call secretly monitored by PBSO.

In the call, played aloud for jurors during the trial, Cowans said he was "a different person then."

"This is one area of my life that I regret so much," the deputy said. "Man's heart is full of wickedness."

Defense attorney Bobby Gentile told jurors that Cowans was talking about his strained father-daughter relationship with the girl — not sexual abuse. He argued that Oshea had confused her decades-old memories of abuse and misidentified Cowans as the perpetrator.

Gentile pointed to a statement Oshea made during her initial interview with detectives. She said that years before Cowans entered her life, she'd suffered the same abuse at the hands of a babysitter.

"What impact would that have on a child at 4, or 5 or 6 years old?" Gentile's co-counselor, Michael Dutko, asked jurors. "What impact would that have, that might later result in flawed, faulty memories?"

Oshea called the argument "an insult, like a slap in the face." She said she trusted her memory but could only hope that jurors would, too. It took them an afternoon of deliberation to tell her, and the judge, that they did.

Deputy remains suspended without pay in the wake of his conviction

The Broward County Sheriff's Office suspended Cowans without pay following his arrest in 2019. In an emailed statement to The Palm Beach Post that same year, Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony said that any employee found guilty of a criminal offense, "especially as it relates to the nature of these allegations," would be permanently removed from service.

When asked about Cowans' employment status in the wake of his conviction, BSO spokesperson Veda Coleman-Wright said he remains suspended without pay.

Cowans, who lived in Port St. Lucie, was hired as a detention deputy in 2005 and left for personal reasons in June 2011. He was rehired in 2013. Records show that Cowans was a loss-prevention officer for a hotel in Palm Beach prior to his initial stint with the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Circuit Judge Howard Coates is scheduled to sentence him at 1:30 p.m. on May 23. Cowans faces life in prison on three counts of sexual battery on a child younger than 12.

When asked Friday what advice she would give other survivors of sexual abuse, Oshea's message was simple: Stop being silent.

"Speak the truth, scream it to the sky. It’s time to yell, it’s time to scream, it’s time to end the silence," Oshea said. "The secrets that the monsters tell us to keep are not our secrets. It’s not our shame. We have nothing to be ashamed of."

John Pycock, 83, has been placed on the sex offenders register for life

A former scout leader has been jailed for 14 years after he was found guilty of sex offences against a boy

more than three decades ago.

John Pycock, 83, of Winn Street, Lincoln, had denied abusing the boy in the late 1980s and early 1990s

while he was a scout leader in Billinghay and then Fiskerton.

A jury at Lincoln Crown Court convicted him of indecency with a child, two counts of indecent assault

and two other serious sexual offences.

It is the third prison term being served by Pycock who has been placed on the sex offenders register

for life.

He was previously jailed for six years in November 2020 after admitting three charges involving sex offences

against a young girl.

He was also given a 51 month sentence in June 2014 when he admitted five sex offences against young boys.

At Friday's sentencing, Lincoln Crown Court heard Pycock was in poor health and faced the prospect of

never leaving prison.

Male nurse, 31, who was caught by undercover police officer

plotting to sexually abuse four-month-old baby boy is struck off

By JACOB THORBURN FOR MAILONLINE
PUBLISHED: 06:11 EDT, 5 October 2021

A paedophile nurse who plotted to sexually abuse a four-month-old baby

has been struck off the register

What register?

Thomas Harrison, 31, of Mossley Hill, Liverpool, devised a plan to abuse a youngster with a man he thought was the baby's father in online conversations.

But the nurse was completely unaware that he was actually chatting with an undercover police officer who was part of a sting operation hoping to catch him.

Harrison started chatting to the cop on dating site Grindr and requested images of his supposed baby son, saying that he had 'no limits' sexually.

Harrison, who worked as an adult nurse at Cornerstone Surgery in St Helens, Merseyside, later arranged for the man and his child to visit his home.

He was arrested by Merseyside Police for facilitating the commission of a child sex offence, and was sentenced to two years in prison and put on the Sex Offenders Register for a decade in October 2020.

This week, the Nursing and Midwifery Council confirmed they had struck Harrison off their nursing records.

Oh, that registry!

Thomas Harrison, 31, of Mossley Hill, Liverpool, devised a twisted plan to abuse a four-month-old boy with a man he thought was the baby's father in online conversations

After striking up a conversation with a man on the dating app Grindr in July 2020, Harrison requested pictures of his four-month-old boy.

When asked by the officer whether he would prefer sexual activity with the man or his son, Harrison replied: 'The baby'.

He described a sexual act he planned to commit on the undercover officer's child, before later detailing a fantasy of 'watching the officer do the same to his own baby'.

After the pair agreed to meet, Harrison sent the officer details of his home address.

When he arrived on July 27, the undercover officer told Harrison to 'close the curtains' and wait inside, before a Merseyside Police unit stormed in to arrest him.

NMC documents, covering Harrison's hearing on September 17, stated: 'The panel was provided with a certificate of conviction which confirmed that on 16 September 2020 at Crown Court in Liverpool Harrison was convicted of arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence.

'The panel also noted that Harrison had admitted the charge against him.

'The panel agreed that the nature of Harrison's conviction is very serious and involved a very vulnerable baby who was, in the past, placed at unwarranted risk of harm.

'It also breached fundamental tenets of the profession and brought the profession into disrepute.

'Harrison has been convicted of a serious sexual offence involving the attempted sexual abuse of a four month old baby.

'It determined that a fully informed member of the public would be appalled by Harrison's conviction, and extremely concerned should a finding of no current impairment be made in light of his convictions.'

Harrison, a survivor of the Manchester Arena bombing, initially messaged the man on dating app Grindr before moving to Wickr - an encrypted messaging service.

After being sentenced to two years in prison, Detective Constable Craig Doyle said: 'Harrison has shown by his actions that he clearly poses a danger to children, and I am very pleased to say he is safely behind bars today.

'He will now spend time behind bars where he can no longer pose a risk, and I hope he uses that time to reflect on the seriousness of his offence and the impact it could have had on a victim, their family and the wider community.'

Two years is just a pathetic sentence for such a horrible pervert. He will be out next year and will be searching for other babies to rape.

Alongside being struck off the nursing register, the NMC also imposed an 18-month interim suspension order, meaning Harrison must not practise for its duration.

So, does that mean he can practice elsewhere after 18 months, most of which he will spend in jail?

On making their decision to remove Harrison from the register, the NMC said: 'The panel noted that the serious breach of the fundamental tenets of the profession evidenced by Harrison's actions is fundamentally incompatible with him remaining on the register.

'The panel agreed that the appropriate and proportionate sanction is that of a striking-off order.

'Having regard to the matters it identified, the panel has concluded that nothing short of this would be sufficient in this case.'

Britain's most notorious paedophile Sidney Cooke, 94, appeals

to the Parole Board for the 10th time seeking his release from jail

This headline is a little hyperbolic as Jimmy Savile was easily

the most notorious paedophile in the UK

Paedophile Sidney Cooke, pictured, is making an application to the Parole Board to release him from prison

One of Britain's oldest prisoners is planning a new attempt to get out of jail on parole having been convicted for a catalogue of sex attacks on two young brothers.

Sidney Cooke, 94, who is serving life in prison, was jailed for a minimum of five years in 1999, but has been considered a risk to the public so has not been released. The Parole Board has so far rejected nine previous release attempts.

According to The Mirror, his legal team will argue that he is no longer a threat to society due to his age and ill health.

The panel's decision will be published later this month.

A source said: 'Just because he is 94, does not mean he is no longer a danger to the public. You can still pose a risk regardless of age.'

Cooke, who was a former fairground worker, was the leader of a gang of paedophiles known as The Dirty Dozen who have been linked to a string of unsolved crimes.

Cooke - known as 'Hissing Sid' - was released from jail in April 1999, after serving nine years for the manslaughter of 14-year-old Jason Swift in 1985.

But after his release he was immediately taken into voluntary custody for his own safety.

But detectives, convinced he was responsible for other similar unsolved crimes, kept his file open.

Within months Cooke was accused of abusing two teenage brothers he befriended while working on fairgrounds more than 30 years ago. He was also accused of the rape of a young woman.

In an unexpected move during his 1999 trial at Manchester Crown Court, Cooke suddenly changed his plea to guilty and admitted ten offences against the youngsters and subsequently received two life sentences.

With two life sentences, he shouldn't be having parole hearings, IMHO.

Never down: Pornhub says traffic surged by millions

of active users during Facebook outage

One of the world’s most visited websites, Pornhub, became even more popular this week, its data analysis shows. With Instagram and FB inaccessible, Internet users entertained themselves online with “adults only” content.

Pornhub detected an increase in its traffic on Monday, when Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp were all down for some six hours in a major worldwide outage. During this quiet time, “about half a million additional users during each hour” flocked to the website offering adult content, Pornhub revealed by publishing its October 4 average hourly traffic.

That means 3 million pervs got their porn from FB or Instagram, at least.

The peak of active users, “as much as +10.5%,” was registered at around 1pm Eastern Time (ET), prompting some commentators to question others’ activities during working hours.

However, 1pm ET is 7pm Central European Summer Time and around 2am in many Asian countries.

Pornhub said it had seen “similar traffic increases” in previous years when social media platforms were offline. On Monday, Telegram messenger said it also gained new users during the outage, with more than 70 million people signing up in a single day.

Explaining the historic blackout, believed to be one of the longest ever Facebook disruptions, Mark Zuckerberg’s company said the outage was “an error of our own making.” The “complete disconnection of our server connections between our data centers and the internet” had nothing to do with “malicious activity,” it reassured. There is speculation suggesting the outage was caused by some sort of a hack and that user data might have been compromised.

Metropolitan Police is worst in country at solving sexual &

violent crimes, new policing study finds

The Met, the UK’s largest police force, has reportedly been ranked the worst in England and Wales for solving sexual and violent crimes. A new analysis found charges were brought in only one in 20 offences probed by Scotland Yard.

The rankings, which are based on official police data, showed that the proportion of sexual and violent crimes where the Metropolitan Police charged a suspect was 5% as of August 2020. Five years earlier, that figure apparently stood at 14%.

At the national level, police forces now solve about 9% – fewer than one in 10 – of sexual and violent offence cases. According to the new analysis by Poliscope, that number was 19% – roughly one in five – in 2016. A study published by the group in May projected sex and violent crimes to rise by 13% by 2022 and reach 20% by 2023 compared to figures from 2019.

“Too many rape victims in London are being failed and we need to see an urgent overhaul of the criminal justice system’s approach to rape, from the police through to prosecution and courts,” London's Victims’ Commissioner Claire Waxman told The Telegraph.

Without drastic changes, we won’t be able to restore the trust and confidence of survivors that they will be able to get justice.

Waxman also criticised the current “disproportionate focus placed on discrediting a victim and their case,” while calling for police forces to shift towards an “offender-centric” approach to investigations.

In October 2020, the London Assembly’s Police and Crime Committee cited figures gathered from the Met Police and the Crown Prosecution Service to show that reports of rape and sexual offences in London had increased by 25% between 2015 and 2020, while convictions dropped by nearly the same percentage over that period.

The rankings come at a time when the Met Police is facing a credibility crisis after the kidnap, rape, and murder of Sarah Everard in March by former police officer Wayne Couzens. Earlier this week, British Home Secretary Priti Patel declared that the murder had “exposed unimaginable failings” within the police force, and announced an inquiry to probe the “systematic failures” that led to Everard’s killing.

The announcement of the probe, which will also explore potential deeper problems in UK policing, came amid intense criticism of the Met Police, its commissioner Cressida Dick, and the failure of officers to act on previous allegations made against Couzens – who received a rare whole-life prison sentence last month.

Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Sunday that his government needed to look “systemically” at “the whole handling of rape, domestic violence, sexual violence, and female complaints about harassment altogether.”

In the wake of Couzens' conviction, Dick – who has refused to resign from her post, despite growing calls to do so – announced the Met Police would conduct an internal review into “standards and culture” across the force as part of an effort to restore public trust.

A recent investigation by the iNews outlet found that a total of 771 Met Police officers and staff had faced sexual misconduct allegations over the past 11 years. Over the same period, 163 Met officers were apparently arrested for various sexual offences – with 38 convicted in court.

How sad is that?

Slough deputy headteacher allowed convicted paedophile

to visit primary school

Alice Wetherell allowed the paedophile onto the grounds of Ryvers School on multiple occasions, despite knowing about his crimes

A headteacher has been found guilty of unacceptable professional conduct after allowing a convicted paedophile to enter a Slough school.

The offender had been ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for life following their conviction in 2014.

Alice Wetherell was suspended in November 2018, after the school was notified of her familial ties with the sex offender, who has not been named in the redacted verdict.

Wetherell, who became headteacher of the school on September 1, 2018, was sacked by the school in April 2019 for gross misconduct after failing to alert the school, and the relevant authorities, about her ties to the convicted sex offender.

As part of her position at Ryvers School, in Slough, Wetherell was the "designated safeguarding lead".

The primary school, on Trelawney Avenue, offers education to children from nursery age until age 11.

A hearing found that Wetherell had allowed the offender - referred to as ‘Individual A’ - to enter the school premises during the 2018 summer holidays, in order to seek "informal health and safety advice", despite knowing about his crimes.

Individual A had previously received a six-year custodial sentence after being found guilty of nine counts of sexual offences against a child.

Although it is unlikely that any students were present during the visit, the offender may have been able to see photographs and important, personal information about the children, testifying witnesses told the professional conduct panel.

Individual A had only recently been released from prison, but had been given permission by their probation officer in order to visit the school on a "limited basis".

The panel stated that Individual A was "almost inevitably" given credibility due to their ties with Wetherell whilst working within the school.

Staff first became suspicious of Individual A after Wetherell's alibis failed to add up.

One member of staff became increasingly concerned after the deputy headteacher continued to tell stories about the sex offender working abroad, but the location would change.

After hearing rumours that Individual A had actually spent that time in prison, instead of working abroad, the alarm was raised.

According to recommendations sent to the Secretary of State for Education, Wetherell had an otherwise "unblemished" career, and a number of students and teachers acted as witnesses on her behalf.

Following the hearing, it was ordered that the information pertaining to Wetherell’s misconduct be published as it is "in the public interest".

Black Market Baby Trafficking Organization

Exposed by Civilian in China

A civilian exposed China’s black market involving the trafficking and selling of newborn babies under the guise of adoption after a year-long voluntary undercover investigation.

According to The Paper, a Chinese state-owned digital newspaper, a civilian played a critical role in the anti-trafficking effort. The civilian, Zhengyi Shangguan, joined a baby trafficking WeChat group disguised as a barren woman who desired a daughter. After prolonged undercover work, Shangguan gradually gained the trust of the middleman and was later considered to be a suitable buyer.

There were about 100 members in the WeChat group, consisting of people from various cities and provinces in China. Due to WeChat’s sensitive vocabulary recognition, the group often disbands and reassembles itself. New members must clearly state their needs or be removed from the chat group.

Shangguan was able to identify the encrypted terms used by the group to avoid vocabulary detection. For example, the slang “bao” represents “baby.” The English letter “S” represents “sending for adoption,” and “L” represents “acceptance of adoption.” The two English letters corresponded to selling and buying.

On June 11, Shangguan received an encrypted message on WeChat suggesting that a baby girl would be available, followed by a phone conversation. The party that reached out to Shangguan was Ms. Zhu, one of the alleged orchestrators.

Zhu said the baby girl was expected to be delivered around July 20 at a hospital, and the price would be $17,000. She then guaranteed the baby’s health with a clean genetic history and offered to be there for the entire delivery process. To further dispel buyer worries, Zhu also suggested that payment could be made on the delivery day, but only cash would be accepted.

In addition, Zhu repeatedly stated that a birth certificate was not recommended because it could easily be obtained afterward. However, if requested, the birth certificate would be an additional $6,000. She explained that getting a birth certificate at the time of delivery would require the birth mother to use the buyer’s identity to register the baby, which is not ideal because if the birth mother knows who the buyer is, she may decide to look for her child in the future. According to Zhu, it would be worrisome to know the birth mother could find her child one day.

After thorough communications, Shangguan learned the entire delivery process and transaction details: A pregnant woman is usually admitted to the hospital’s delivery room in the morning. For the next three days, the newborn will be looked after by the nurses and screened for diseases and defects. After the examinations are completed, the baby is ready to be discharged. Upon discharge, the nurses will hand the baby directly to Zhu. After collecting payment, Zhu then passes the baby to the buyer along with a “consent to adoption letter” signed by the birth mother—then the transaction is complete.

Zhu appeared to be detail-oriented in her operations and even provided the buyer tips in advance. She suggested that it’s best to pretend to be pregnant months before the transaction occurs. Otherwise, friends and neighbors might question when a child suddenly appears. “It may cast a shadow in the child’s future” if not done properly, Zhu said, according to Beijing-backed media ifeng.

To ensure smooth operations, Zhu claimed that she had connections in the local hospitals and that doctors and nurses generally turned a blind eye. “You have to spend what you have to spend to make things work,” Zhu added, and suggested that there are other staff that are part of the operation.

Zhu claimed to have graduated with a master’s degree and was formally a teacher. After remarrying, she was unable to conceive and started her 10-year-journey to have a child and accidentally entered the business of trafficking. The middleman in the WeChat group once helped her get a surrogate, and the two became partners.

At least it appears that they are not supplying babies to pimps. I pray to God they haven't. This does happen in SE Asia and Africa.

One of world's most-wanted paedophiles arrested in small Sarawak town

after joint effort with Aussie cops

By JUNAID IBRAHIM and SHARON LING
Sunday, 05 Sep 2021

Alladin (centre) pleaded guilty to 18 charges of molesting five boys and was sentenced to
a total of 18 years, six months' jail and 15 strokes of the rotan.

PETALING JAYA: A paedophile who has been operating under the radar for 14 years has been arrested in Lundu, a small town in Sarawak, after joint efforts between Malaysian and Australian police.

The suspect, Alladin Lanim, had been under investigation by the Australian Federal Police (AFP), Queensland Police and the Australian Transactions Reports and Analysis Centre (Austrac) for two years.

According to a report by The Sydney Morning Herald on Sunday (Sept 5), four children aged nine to 14 have been rescued following his arrest.

The Sydney-based newspaper also shared a chronology of the investigation, starting with a multi-national internal police report in 2019 which had listed Alladin's online alias as one of the top 10 offenders in the world for online child exploitation.

The 40-year old man posted his heinous activities on the dark web, with detailed abuses inflicted on children aged between two and 16.

Authorities said that he has been active since 2007 and was linked to more than 1,000 images and videos of sexually-abused minors.

"He was so prolific with so many victims, that is why he became a high priority," Detective Sergeant Daniel Burnicle, the AFP's acting senior officer in Kuala Lumpur was quoted as saying to The Sydney Morning Herald.

Authorities could find no traces to the suspect save for his anonymous online profile. Experts at the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation's identification unit made a breakthrough when they finally identified the suspect in August 2020.

The AFP-led operation, which included members of Queensland Police's Argus taskforce for child victim identification, came across a possible image of the suspect on social media.

The pictures were then submitted to the Malaysian police and KL-based AFP officers and the US Homeland Security investigators who raced to identify him.

"It's just a slow, methodical burn. They were going through images trying to work out where that location may be so they can follow up. It is all very difficult with the dark web to track people," Burnicle said.

In another development of the case, a team at Austrac was able to put together another key piece in the puzzle this year by coming across the same image as the one that had been forwarded to Malaysia from Australia months earlier. This time the image came with identifying information attached.

In July, with the assistance of the Australian investigators, Malaysian authorities managed to track Alladin to a Covid-19 quarantine centre in Sarawak where he was in mandatory isolation after coming back from Peninsular Malaysia. Malaysian police were waiting for him upon his discharge on July 5 and took him into custody.

Alladin was charged with 18 counts of molesting five boys and inducing them to watch pornographic videos by offering to let them play a mobile game on his phone.

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a total of 18 years, six months' jail and 15 strokes of the rotan. He pleaded guilty to four charges on Aug 16 and 14 charges on Aug 17 at three Sessions Courts in Kuching, reported Dayak Daily.

The offences were committed at a plantation quarters and a home porch in Lundu between 2018 and April this year.

"This (investigation) was all, of course, done during Covid-19 (period and MCO), which made it all more difficult to get around the country and conduct basic field inquiries.

"We hope this case will be like a learning experience that we use over here and say 'this is what's happened, how can we do it better for next time?' You need a police force to be able to counter this type of offending," Burnicle added.

Sarawak state Welfare, Community Well-being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah told The Star that she was alerted about the case. "Thankfully he was finally tracked down, prosecuted and punished for the hideous crimes he committed.

"Congratulations to the Malaysian police and the Australian Federal Police for the excellent work," she said.

Bukit Aman Sexual, Women and Child Investigations Division (D11) Assistant Direct Asst Comm Siti Kamsiah Hassan said that the arrest was the result of a close working relationship between local and Australian police.

"With his arrest we hope that it can prevent further potential cases from happening," she told The Borneo Post.

A paedo was living with a Birmingham woman and her baby - with her completely unaware of his string of depraved convictions.

Jamie Henfrey, 24, had his first conviction in 2017 after trying to groom online a 12-year-old girl who turned out to be a policeman.

The 24 year old was banned from being around children after convictions for possessing child porn and breaching his sexual harm prevention order, reports LeicsLive.

He had a 13-month jail sentence in May 2019 but met a woman in October of last year. They formed a relationship.

But on April 21 this year, a fake police account on Snapchat - pretending to be a 12-year-old girl called Holly - received messages from Henfrey, who sent her explicit pictures and videos of himself.

He also sent her detailed instructions of explicit acts he wanted her to perform on herself.

When police went to Henfrey's home in Glen Rise, Glen Parva, his grandmother answered the door and told the officers he was staying in Birmingham with his girlfriend.

The woman had a one-year-old child from a previous relationship and Henfrey - who was banned from staying in a house with a child - was also required by court order to tell anyone he had an intimate relationship with all about all his sexual convictions. But instead, Henfrey had told his girlfriend his involvement with the probation service was to do with money he owned other people.

At Leicester Crown Court on Friday, Henfrey admitted breaching his order twice, attempted sexual communication with a child and attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act.

He also admitted being in breach of a suspended sentence order he was given at Leicester Magistrates' Court last year for installing Snapchat on his phone, which also went against his previous court order. The order had been issued to protect children from Henfrey but he had been ignoring it.

Prosecutor Jonathan Dunne said Henfrey was "flying under the radar of those who are tasked to keep others safe".

Ben Gow, representing Henfrey, told the court: "Mr Henfrey is a young man still. He tells me he doesn't have a real interest in children - he gets drunk and has a compulsion to get online and behave as he did. He is desperate to stop."

Desperate enough to quit drinking?

Recorder Sandeep Kainth expressed his concern for Henfrey's girlfriend, who is currently pregnant with his child. He said: "As a consequence of your deliberate deception she is now pregnant. I don't know if you had been full and frank with her she would have still been with you.

"You knew full well that if you were going to have a relationship, and that person had a child, you had no option but to notify the police and be frank with your partner. But you told her a pack of lies."

He described Kaith's offending as "absolutely grotesque" and his previous convictions as "a depressing read".

Sentencing Henfrey to 41 months in jail he told him: "You are depraved."

Reports of children sexually abusing other kids

DOUBLE in a year to almost 16,000 cases

In 2017 police saw 8,000 reports of abuse - but this soared to a yearly figure between 15,000 and 16,000.

Child-on-child sexual abuse doubled in just one year

The shocking statistics, obtained by BBC Panorama, show the number of sexual offences in under-18s from 31 police forces in England and Wales.

They include rape and sexual assault where both the victim and alleged offender were under age.

In nearly 10 per cent of the cases the alleged perpetrator was under the age of 10.

And in roughly nine out of 10 cases the alleged abusers were boys.

The figures show that between April 2016 and March 2017 cops received 7,866 reports.

By 2018-2019 this had skyrocketed to 16,102.

However the most up to date stats, taken from 2020-2021, show abuse cases fell to 10,861 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

One childhood assault victim told the investigative TV show how she was abused by a boy from her school at the age of 12.

Danielle, not her real name, told the program: "Every time we met he groped me and touched me up.

“He would ask if we could have sex, and I would always say no, but he would just end up just touching me anyway.

"We were walking up the stairs at one point and he grabbed up my skirt and it really made me upset. I started crying at that point, I think it felt like I had no space."

The schoolgirl bottled up what was happening and did not tell anyone of the sexual assaults.

She said: "I thought that I would get in trouble. I just thought I was the one to blame, they would just get very angry with me and they wouldn't understand.”

She explained how when she eventually told teachers, she was told: “Oh you know, just talk about your feelings and just work things out between you two."

Labour MP and former teacher, Emma Hardy, said: "I still think that those figures might be an underestimation of the extent of the problem, because not all cases ended up going to the police. Not all things are reported."

In most places, the majority of sexual assault cases are not reported to authorities.

Battle to make sex abuse documentary accessible in schools

Producers of a documentary aimed at educating young teens about the dangers of sexual predators online are battling to overturn a classification ruling that would severely limit the film’s potential reach into schools.

The documentary, The Children In The Pictures, focuses on the work of specialist Queensland police unit Task Force Argos and recently established federal agency the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE).

The carefully constructed film contains no graphic images but showcases methods used by police to battle the rising tide of child sexual exploitation on the dark web. It also looks at the ways in which predators – impersonating naive teens – can lure youngsters into providing imagery that is then used to blackmail them into traps they can’t easily escape.

Despite the producers’ circumspect handling of the material, a four-person panel from the federal government’s Classification Board slapped an MA15+ ruling on the film on August 13, with the consumer advice of “strong themes and references to child sexual abuse”.

Producers Simon Nasht and Tony Wright are appealing against the decision, backed by a number of experts in child psychology and education, who say a less restrictive M rating would better serve community interests.

Mr Nasht and Mr Wright argue that the classification is detrimental to the use of the film as a valuable teaching resource, is “counterproductive to the safety of young people” and is not supported by evidence or informed by an understanding of the issues explored in the film.

Mr Nasht told the Herald that globally, sexual exploitation of children and young teens was a crime that was “#MeToo” in its scale and urgency.

No! It's far beyond that!

“Obviously we advocate the film should be used with care in schools and teacher guidance, which is why we are working with ATOM [Australian Teachers of Media] and other experts to prepare extensive support materials and teacher guides,” he said.

He said the aim of the project was to help youngsters in year 9 and above understand the risks they face online. In 2020, the US National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) reported the existence of 70 million child sexual abuse files, many of which would circulate indefinitely, Mr Nasht said.

I think it should be viewed by children aged 9 and older.

The head of the Australian Childhood Foundation, Dr Joe Tucci, told the Herald: “I believe young people will appreciate the knowledge they can get from this movie. It’s them who are affected by this crime. Withholding it from 14 and 15-year-olds does not do them any benefits, it only keeps them in the dark about how this kind of crime works, the deceptions that offenders use to manipulate the truth and manipulate them.”

Childhood education expert Professor Kerryann Walsh, from the Queensland University of Technology, said the documentary would be better suited to a less restrictive M rating.

“Kids need to be given agency and trusted to make sense of this ... They need safe entry points into this kind of material where it can be discussed in a regulated, caring, supportive space.”

The film is slated to run on SBS towards the end of October.
