Texas Megachurch Youth Leader Arrested

for Child Sex Videos

A youth leader at a Texas megachurch has been arrested for allegedly inducing young girls to send him explicit inappropriate images.

Prosecution documents in Abilene, Texas, state that 24-year-old Charles Goff admitted to police that he went on social media and solicited nude photos from girls aged 14 and 15. They also allege that Goff met with a fellow church member and admitted his wrongdoing.

Goff was a youth volunteer at Beltway Park Church, a large baptist megachurch in Abilene in north central Texas with two campuses in the city and a congregation of nearly 5,000 people every week.

Beltway Park Church has a kid's club and other youth groups, according to its website. The church said in a statement that Goff had passed two background checks—one before he began youth volunteer work and another two years later during standard youth volunteer monitoring.The ABC Texas affiliate KTXS reported that police found three explicit and inappropriate videos of young girls on Goff's phone.

Goff was charged on Wednesday with third degree felony charges of possessing child sexual abuse images. He was booked at the Taylor County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

Newsweek sought email comment from Beltway Park Church's youth director on Thursday.

The church released a letter from chief pastor David McQueen on Wednesday, in which he wrote that "this is a difficult letter for me to write, but it is important."

"I need to let you know about a serious matter involving a former volunteer and to provide clear information about the steps we've taken to address this situation."

"In June 2024, we were made aware that a former volunteer with our youth ministry confessed to soliciting inappropriate photos and videos of minors online."

"Upon receiving this report, we immediately notified the proper authorities. We have and will continue to cooperate fully with the investigation. We learned today that this individual was arrested."

McQueen wrote that he doesn't know all the details yet but the former volunteer "had been a youth volunteer in our church for approximately three years, until this past summer."

"As part of our normal safety protocols, this individual passed a background check before he was an active volunteer in 2022 and then again as part of our standard volunteer protocol in 2024. Prior to the report in June, he had served in good standing, with no prior concerns or complaints raised," he said.

"We currently have no indication that any minors from our church were involved in any inappropriate activity with this former volunteer."

McQueen urged anyone with information to contact the Abilene Police Department.

"As always, we are here to offer prayer, support and additional ministry resources throughout this process to anyone who may have been impacted by these events. We stand ready to assist in any way," he said.

A Tulsa man was sentenced Tuesday to more than 200 years imprisonment after his conviction of sexually abusing five boys he met through church and while doing volunteer work for a local Department of Human Services shelter.

A jury found Timothy Shawn Cato, 52, guilty Nov. 10 of 11 counts of child sexual abuse committed against the boys between October 2009 and his arrest in October 2014.

In upholding the jury's sentencing recommendations, District Judge William LaFortune said he agreed with prosecutors' claims that Cato has consistently tried to minimize, justify or otherwise rationalize his actions against the boys, who were between the ages of 7 and 17.

The jury acquitted Cato on one count each of child sexual abuse and manufacture, distribution or sale of child pornography. Jurors recommended he serve 25 years for each of six counts of child sexual abuse involving a victim younger than 12, as well as a combined 65 years for similar charges related to teenage boys, which LaFortune set to run consecutively.

"There appears to be a pattern of behavior," LaFortune said, noting that it was "was very telling to the court" that Cato repeatedly put himself in a position to work in areas "where the most vulnerable young boys were found." A probable cause affidavit in the case detailed more than 20 years of work Cato had done with children through various churches and summer camps.

Two teenage boys alleged they met Cato in his work with Eastland Assembly of God, while two younger boys told authorities they knew him as a volunteer at the Laura Dester shelter, where they lived at the time. Cato was also a teaching assistant at Town & Country School in Tulsa at the time of his arrest, and additionally worked with a company that had contracts with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services' Developmental Disabilities Services Division.

Testimony from the boys indicated he would bathe them at his home, provide them underwear and sleep next to them while touching them inappropriately. The younger boys said Cato would check them out of the Laura Dester shelter for weekends so they could stay with him, which is when they said the assaults occurred. Court records indicate he admitted to police that he sexually assaulted a then-15-year-old boy.

Assistant District Attorney Andrea Brown argued for LaFortune not to run the sentences concurrently, saying Cato "deserves every single day" of every year the jury recommended.

Cato did not address the court before his sentencing.

"It was a physically and emotionally demanding two weeks (of trial) for everybody involved, but it was certainly worth it," Brown said after the hearing. "Mr. Cato first denied any kind of inappropriate contact with children. Ultimately, after a lengthy interview, he sort-of admitted that he had some inappropriate sexual contact with one of the five children that we had alleged he had touched.

"He continued to minimize and justify his behavior, including 'bizarre,' as Judge LaFortune put it, behavior in the bathroom and in the shower and while sleeping. I think that contributed significantly to Judge LaFortune's decision to run all the counts each after the other in accordance with the jury's carefully thought-out verdicts."

Assistant Public Defender Travis Smith asked the court to impose concurrent sentences, noting that four people provided letters in support of Cato, who had no previous significant contact with police in the past.

"I'm slightly disappointed in Judge LaFortune's decision today regarding giving consecutive time instead of concurrent time," Smith said. "We will begin the process this afternoon of appealing the case."

Temple: Man charged with continuous

sexual abuse of child

TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) A Temple man was held Tuesday in the Bell County Jail charged with continuous sexual abuse of a young child.

Daniel Vasquez, 44, who shows a home address on South 21st Street in Temple, was ordered held on bonds totaling $200,000, charged with indecency with a child by sexual contact, online jail records showed.

An affidavit issued for an arrest warrant says the sexual abuse began when the victim was only 3-years-old and continued for a period of five years.

A girl who lived with Vasquez told police investigators she awakened on August 19, 2016, to find Vasquez in bed in her room with another girl.

The girl told police she asked the other girl if the man had tried to touch her and the victim said the man tried to pull her underwear down and touch her.

The affidavit detailed an interview held at the Children’s Advocacy Center during which the victim told investigators a man touched her both outside and inside her clothing.

Following the interview police were able to identify a suspect and obtain a arrest warrant for him.

Louisville woman sentenced for incest,

sodomy and sex abuse

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 40-year-old Louisville woman has been sentenced for incest, sodomy and sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12. 

Kelly Lynn South took a plea deal to spend the next 16 years in prison. 

The Attorney General's Office says the crimes happened between Sept. 2012 and Sept. 2015. She was arrested in October of that year after an investigation by the Louisville Metro Police Crimes Against Children Unit.

As part of her sentencing, South must register as a lifetime sex offender. 

Pittstown man accused of child sex abuse

PITTSTOWN, N.Y. >> A local man was jailed Sunday on sexual abuse and drug charges after an investigation by state police.

Troopers said Robert R. Russell 53, was arrested after they and Rensselaer County Child Protective Services investigated allegations Russell had sexual contact with a child younger than 11.

Russell was charged with a felony count of first-degree sex abuse, as well as misdemeanor charges of fifth-degree criminal sale of marijuana and endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned in Pittstown Town Court and sent to the Rensselaer County jail without bail.

Troopers said the investigation is ongoing and are asking anyone with information about this case or other potential victims to call the Brunswick barracks at 279-4427.

Man convicted of child sex abuse gets 25 to life

LOCKPORT, N.Y. -- A Wilson man convicted of sexually abusing a young girl will spend a long time behind bars. 

Alfonso Cutaia was sentenced in Niagara County Court Tuesday by Judge Matthew Murphy to 25 years to life in prison, the maximum sentence he could receive.

A friend of the victim's family said in court Tuesday they all drew strength from the young girl throughout the ordeal. 

 "It was a broken family and the family was able to draw strength from the victim because she was so...still a fighter and still so strong," the family friend said. 

A jury convicted Cutaia of a single count of predatory sexual assault against a child. He was charged with two counts; the second stemming from a separate victim, but the jury acquitted him of that charge.

On the day he was arrested for jewellery theft in 2008, Robert John Brown had 13 coloured diamonds worth $22,000 in his back pocket.

It had been a “hectic” day at Leonard’s jewellery store at Cooks Hill where he worked, and he had forgotten all about them, Brown told police. He was jailed for two years for stealing jewels valued at $157,000.

The next time police arrested Brown, in October 2014, and charged him with child sex offences from the 1980s, the former Belair Baptist Church youth group and Boys Brigade leader spoke about God.

He had asked God about child sexual abuse, but “I’ve had no answers from God so I’ve stopped asking”.

Brown, 49, of Gateshead, will be sentenced in late February after pleading guilty to multiple sexual assault offences against a boy who was 11 when they met through the Adamstown Heights church in 1985.

The offences occurred during church youth camps, at the boy’s home, in Brown’s car while he drove the boy home from youth group and Boys Brigade meetings, and at other church-related occasions.

Brown was 18 and the boy was 11 when Brown first showed him pornographic movies and magazines, and told him if he “wanted to be experienced with girls he should try it with boys first”.

A police statement of facts said the boy’s family life was difficult. Brown bought him gifts and his attention made the boy feel special. Brown visited the boy’s home once a week, ate Sunday lunch with the boy’s family and showed the boy pornography in his bedroom, police said.

The abuse continued after the boy told Brown what he was doing was wrong.

In an interview with police Brown said he was “like a big brother” to the boy and confirmed having a sexual relationship with him from when the boy was 11.

“(Brown) felt it was a mutual relationship,” police said.

Brown said he did not remember having a sexual relationship with another boy he met through the church.

A former church leader told police Brown’s family was prominent within the Baptist congregation. Brown was “an outgoing young man” who “seemed helpful and supportive” when he indicated he wanted to take a leadership role in the youth group and Boys Brigade, the former church leader said.

In material before Newcastle District Court Brown said he did not think of what he did as wrong.

“It wasn’t a wrong thing. I never really thought about whether it was right or wrong. I guess I can say it just happened,” Brown said in 2014.

He admitted he would have been concerned if others had known about him having sex with the boy.

“I guess I wouldn’t want anyone to find out about it, but back then I didn’t think somebody might find out. I wasn’t thinking that way,” he said.

Brown’s victim, who reported the offences to police in 2013, said Brown lacked insight into the profound impact the offending had on his life.

“I really enjoyed church. I felt really comfortable there, and it all changed when Brown appeared,” the victim said.

“I should have fond memories of youth group and Boys Brigade, but every time I try to look back, he’s there.”

2 Separate Youth Workers Charged with CSA in Spotsylvania

Forgive me for making light of the name, there is certainly nothing funny in what these two youth workers allegedly did, but I have never heard that name before, so to find two very similar cases in that county at the same time just strikes me as odd. If someone knows where the name came from, please enlighten me.

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Virginia — A Spotsylvania Girl Scout leader arrested for allegedly taking indecent liberties with a child and also on numerous child porn charges in Spotsylvania County is now out of jail.

Investigators said that Chad Miller, age 47, worked with his wife to lead a Girl Scout troop.

Miller was recently indicted by a grand jury and now he’s charged with 30 felony counts of possessing child pornography and one count of taking indecent liberties with a child under eighteen while under his supervision.

Deputies said the investigation began after Miller allegedly sent a 14-year-old Girl Scout a link to a pornographic website. Investigators said Miller, a family friend of that victim, is also a person of interest in a similar investigation in Fairfax.

“She knew the actions of Miller were inappropriate and she was uncomfortable,” said Capt. Jeffrey Pearce. “She did stand up and brought it to her parents.”

He explained that the sheriff’s office got a call back in December from the alleged victim’s parents.

A search warrant was executed at his Wellington Street home, and detectives took cell phones and computers.

“We discovered computer generated photos, child porn and several other items of evidence and it led us to conclude he had an inappropriate relationship with at least this one victim,” Pearce said.

Investigators are still trying to determine if any sex crimes took place inside of Miller’s home in the Cambridge subdivision. His neighbors were hit hard by the news, and said they had no idea.

Detectives are now investigating if there are more alleged victims.

“Anyone who had contact with Miller, talk to your children,” Pearce said. “Check their phones, check their emails.”

“We want children to know if they do have something to report, they are not in trouble,” Pearce continued. “We want to hear from them. We just want to help.”

Miller was granted $10,000 bond and returns to Spotsylvania Circuit Court at 9 a.m. on April 28. As a condition of his bond, a judge has stipulated that Miller must not leave the Commonwealth and not interact with anyone under the age of 18, including his own children.

A court document showed he is residing at a motel on Jefferson Davis Highway in that county. We stopped by that room Tuesday, but Miller was not there.

Church Youth Volunteer arrested on Child Sex Abuse Charges

SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. – An anonymous tip led to the arrest of a volunteer, on sexual assault charges, who worked with the youth.

Gregory Richard Yeamans, age 52, was arrested on two counts of aggravated sexual battery of a minor and one count of taking indecent liberties with a minor, on Dec. 31.

An anonymous tip was called into the Spotsylvania Department of Social Services on Dec. 30, alleging sexual abuse of minors by Yeamans.

Detectives interviewed two known victims and were able to find evidence that associated Yeamans to the alleged crimes.

The offenses reportedly occurred at the home of Yeamans in Spotsylvania County.  The males victims were ages 11 and 12.

They both confirmed they had contact with Yeamans at Fairview at Riverclub Church located in Spotsylvania County off Tidewater Trail  where he volunteered his help with youth programs.

CBS 6 reporter Shelby Brown visited the church that Yeamans attends and spoke with Senior Pastor Zach Ashley. He said that Yeamans attended the Spotsylvania church for at least seven years.

“He served as a volunteer from 2007 until about a year and a half ago,” said Asheley. “Mr. Yeamans volunteered in different capacities such as small group leader and he helped drive a bus.”

“The alleged events happened at his home and not here at the church. If he held Bible studies at his home it was nothing that we in any way supported or promoted,” Ashley explained.

Detectives are continuing their investigation to see if there are any more individuals that may have had inappropriate contact with Yeamans. They said that since news of Yeamans’ arrest, they have heard from at least one concerned parent who reported that her son had some interaction with Yeamans.  Investigators and now trying to determine the nature of that contact.

CBS 6 News learned Yeamans is married, and has an adult daughter and grandchild. He was arraigned Monday in court and is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

He plans on hiring his own attorney and is due back in court at 10 a.m., on Feb. 11.
