Justin D. Williams, 29. of the first block of Cambridge East, sexually assaulted a child when the child was younger than 13 and later younger than 16, the prosecutor said. When Williams was arrested in July 2015, court papers said the abuse began in 2008 when the girl was 6 and continued for seven years.
The child was known to Williams, the prosecutor said. The indictment was returned on Wednesday.
Williams, who is free on $50,000 cash bail, is charged with aggravated sexual assault where the victim is younger than 13 (four counts) -- a crime that is punishable by up to life in prison -- aggravated sexual assault where the victim is older than 13 but younger than 16, sexual assault (three counts), endangering the welfare of a child (four counts), aggravated sexual contact and child abuse/neglect, the prosecutor said.
A condition of the bail prevents Williams from contacting the victim, court papers said. Williams declined to comment.
The crimes occurred in Washington, Oxford, Washington Township, Warren County, and Allamuchy Township, the prosecutor said.
The prosecutor's office Special Victims Unit conducted the investigation along with New Jersey State Police.
