The state has closed a Corinth child care center after claims surfaced that six children were sexually and physically abused.
The Mississippi Department of Health sent a letter to Circle Y Childcare Wednesday, suspending their license, on the basis that the department "has reasonable cause to believe that at least six children enrolled in the facility were sexually and physically abused at the facility or on premises near the facility, while in the care of the facility."
Sheriff Ben Caldwell said the Alcorn Sheriff's Department began receiving complaints approximately two weeks ago. Caldwell said the investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed or arrests made.
According to the letter sent by MSDH, "The continued operation of said facility has been determined to constitute a substantial hazard to the health and safety of children entrusted and cared for by such facility."
The letter is addressed to Sheryl Yancy. She could not be reached for comment. Calls to the center went unanswered.
