Valley Grande man faces sodomy
& child sexual abuse chargesBy Blake Deshazo
According to Capt. Mike Granthum with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, 32-year-old Christopher Hobson was charged with first-degree sodomy and sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12.
“We had reports from a family member of the victim that this may have occurred, and we investigated it,” Granthum said. “The Child Advocacy Center helped us with some interviews and stuff, and some of the stuff that happened, we have substantiated it and know it to be true.”
After turning himself in, Hobson was booked under a $500,000 bond. He has since bonded out.
“This is one of the worst things you can do is to perpetrate on a young child, a defenseless child, a child that can’t defend themselves and really don’t know right from wrong at an early age,” he said.
Granthum said the abuse was allegedly ongoing for a few years before the child told family members.
“We found out that it started several years ago, approximately three to five years ago,” he said. “The child was even younger at the time. The child got to the age where he could determine right from wrong on his own, and he came forward and reported it to a family member.”
Granthum said the child was a friend of the family, and there is a possibility of more victims and additional charges coming.
“It could be possible due to his contact with other young children. There could be more victims out there who haven’t come forward, and we encourage them to do so,” Granthum said. “We’re not saying there is, but it’s possible because he is around small kids quite often, and they just may not have the courage or what it takes to come forward yet.”
“It’s a crime that often goes unreported. A lot of times different circumstances, especially if the subject is the same gender, a lot of times it is not reported due to the fact of embarrassment or they’re afraid of what’s going to happen,” Granthum said. “It’s important for people to come forward with it.”
Granthum said he expects Hobson to make his first appearance in court next week.

Missouri man pleads guilty to videoing girlfriend having sex with 3 year old
CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) - A St. Louis-area man awaits sentencing now that he has admitted in court that he videotaped his girlfriend having sex with a 3-year-old boy.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/2i1ZP4l ) reports 49-year-old John Ferguson of Mehlville pleaded guilty Friday to St. Louis County charges of sexual exploitation of a minor and possession of child pornography.
Authorities alleged that Ferguson videotaped his girlfriend, Aubrey Costello-Warden, performing sex acts on a boy in December 2013. Investigators say Ferguson also had more than 20 images of child pornography.
The couple was arrested last year in Mobile, Alabama.
Thirty-eight-year-old Costello-Warden pleaded guilty last month to charges of sexual exploitation and sodomy and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Authorities said Costello-Warden knew she was being recorded.
Ferguson's sentencing is scheduled for March 6.

LONDON, Ont. - Police say a tip from Australia has led to the rescue of a four-year-old alleged victim of child pornography in Ontario.
London, Ont., police say they were notified Wednesday by the Queensland Police Service that images of a young girl were being shared through a website located in Russia.
They say officer searched a home in the city on Thursday and seized a mobile phone and several computer devices.
Police say a 40-year-old London man has been arrested and faces 11 charges, including possession of child pornography, making child pornography, making child pornography available, voyeurism, and making a voyeuristic recording available.

Comic book author suspected of putting
child porn on YouTubeBy Michael Bodley
San Francisco resident Gerard Jones, 59, was arrested on suspicion of possessing more than 600 files of child pornography, police said.
An accomplished San Francisco comic book and nonfiction author, who has been published in Marvel and a slew of other publications, was arrested on suspicion of possessing more than 600 child pornography files and uploading the graphic videos to YouTube, police said Friday.
Gerard Jones, 59, was arrested after a police investigation and ensuing search warrant at his residence in the 600 block of Long Bridge Street in San Francisco’s Mission Bay neighborhood turned up a host of electronic devices storing more than 600 images and videos depicting child pornography, police said.
The longtime author has written screenplays for Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox, served as a writing teacher for the San Francisco Writer’s Grotto, and put together graphic novels for both DC Comics and Marvel Comics, according to his official website.
He was arraigned Thursday and entered a not guilty plea on charges of possession of child pornography and distributing child pornography, a spokesman for the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office said.
Jones did not immediately return requests for comment. His lawyer, Seth Chazin, said his client denies all of the allegations and emphasized that the 59-year-old had no prior criminal record.

Bestiality, child porn case yields arrest
In December, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Division joined with the Rowan County Department of Social Services in an investigation involving the possible sexual exploitation of a child.
During the course of the investigation, Rowan County Sheriff’s investigators determined that the suspects had possessed and traded pornographic images of a child.
The investigation continued with detectives discovering that Wendy Arlene Kasper, 36, of Salisbury, had engaged in sexual acts with a dog on numerous occasions and had committed the felony of secretly video recording a child in a bathroom for the purpose of sexual gratification, according to law enforcement.
The investigation indicated that Kasper was involved in child pornography dissemination with Joshua Douglas Martorelli, 33, according to reports. Martorelli is also from Salisbury and is possibly involved in a larger child pornography group that is still under investigation. This information is being shared with other jurisdictions, including the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation.
On Friday, Jan. 6, Kasper was arrested for the felony charges of secret peeping with a recording device, possessing photographic images from secret peeping and three counts of crimes against nature. Kasper was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond.
Detectives have obtained arrest warrants for Martorelli for the felony charges of possessing photographic images from secret peeping, and two counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. Detectives are still attempting to locate Martorelli, who was last seen in the Old Concord Road area of Salisbury.
Anyone with information on the location of Martorelli is asked to contact Lt. C.A. Moose at 704-216-8687 or Detective C.J. Gordy at 704-216-8710.
