Approaching Sodom > The Pope and the Catholic Church skipping merrily along the Road to Sodom; Zuck takes 3 steps back from the edge

Vatican welcomes gay priests

Homosexuals joining the priesthood must remain in the closet, according to new directive from the Holy See
Vatican welcomes gay priests

The Vatican has given gay men the go-ahead to become priests, provided they remain celibate and refrain from promoting “gay culture,” according to a directive published by the Italian Bishops Conference (CIE) on Thursday.

The document was agreed by the CIE in November and published on Thursday with authorization from the Vatican. It will remain in force for a trial period of three years.

It states that persons with homosexual tendencies” wishing to join the clergy must commit to celibacy, as their heterosexual counterparts also do.

Right!

However, the document continues, the Church “cannot admit to the Seminary and to Holy Orders those who practice homosexuality, present deeply rooted homosexual tendencies or support the so-called gay culture."

“The aforementioned persons find themselves, in fact, in a situation that seriously hinders correct relationships with men and women,” it states.

Is that the main reason? Is there no consideration of Christ's view of homosexuality?

While the new rules offer a path into the priesthood for gay men, they do not depart from the language of a 2016 order issued by Pope Francis, which bans men who “practice homosexuality, [and] show deeply rooted homosexual tendencies” from becoming priests.

Francis has issued a series of somewhat contradictory statements on homosexuality since he became Pope in 2013. Asked that year whether he supported gay men joining the priesthood, he replied “who am I to judge?” However, in 2018 he recommended that gay priests should stay out of the Church, saying “It’s better for them to leave the ministry or the consecrated life rather than to live a double life.”

Last year, the pontiff apologized after complaining in an interview that there is too much “frociaggine” (Italian for “faggotry”) occurring in seminaries.

While the Pope has never contradicted the catechism of the Catholic Church, which states that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered,” he has made several concessions to the LGBT community, including a ruling in December 2023 allowing priests to bless unmarried and same-sex couples.

Meta to remove tampons from men’s bathrooms – NYT

Sweeping changes are rocking the company, with transgender and non-binary themes now unavailable on its messenger
Meta to remove tampons from men’s bathrooms – NYT

Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta Platforms has ended diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, with the changes relevant to transgender and non-binary employees reportedly already being felt across the offices of the Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp owner.

The policy alterations began late on Thursday, shortly after the move was announced via an internal memo. For instance, managers at offices in Silicon Valley, Texas, and New York have been instructed to remove tampons from men’s bathrooms, previously provided by the company for transgender and nonbinary employees, the New York Times reported, citing two Meta employees.

The company has also reportedly removed the nonbinary and transgender themes from its messenger chat app, while access to DEI policies and training manuals was locked on Meta’s internal network.

A U-turn on the company’s DEI-based hiring process, which had taken racial and gender background into account, was first reported earlier on Friday by Axios, which obtained the memo sent to staffers by Janelle Gale, Meta’s vice president of human resources.

“The legal and policy landscape surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the United States is changing,” the memo reads. “The term ‘DEI’ has also become charged, in part because it is understood by some as a practice that suggests preferential treatment of some groups over others.”

The company will instead “focus on how to apply fair and consistent practices that mitigate bias for all, no matter your background.”

Earlier this week, the company pledged to “dramatically reduce the amount of censorship.” In a video address, Zuckerberg promised to “get rid of factcheckers and replace them with community notes” similar to Elon Musk’s X. Meta’s CEO admitted the “factcheckers have just been too politically biased and have destroyed more trust than they’ve created,” announcing that the company’s content moderation teams were set to move from California to Texas “where there is less concern about the bias of our teams.”
