More than 500 sex beasts lurking undetected in Scotland after changing identity through legal ‘loophole’
MORE than 500 sex beasts have exploited a “loophole” to change names, it is claimed.
Rapists and paedos are allowed to switch identify if they inform cops.
But Tories warned predators are “playing the system” and urged tougher restrictions to prevent them seeking anonymity.
They hit out as police figures revealed 506 sickos took a new ID between April 2023 and last month.
Shadow justice secretary Liam Kerr accused ministers of keeping victims “in the dark”. He added: “It’s indefensible that the SNP allow hundreds of sex offenders to play the system.”
Tories say rapists and paedos should be banned from switching names while they would also insist predators tell cops if they plan to use dating apps or change gender.
The Scottish Government said it is considering sex offender name change restrictions proposed at Westminster.
THE SCOTTISH SUN SAYS
ALLOWING sex offenders to change their names is utterly insane.
Perverts thrive on concealing their pasts. And there are multiple cases where beasts who have hidden their identities have committed further, horrific crimes.
New stats show more than 500 sex offenders have switched their names in the last two years, exploiting a loophole SNP ministers have so far failed to close.
The Labour UK government is acting on this issue down south, and the Scottish Tories have repeatedly called for the Scottish Government to do the same.
It’s time for SNP ministers to decide what matters most.
Public safety — or giving vile sex offenders a helping hand.
A spokesman said: “Where a sex offender changes name, they must let police know within three days or they breach their notification requirements.
Hmmmm. They could do a lot of damage in 3 days. Why not inform the police 3 days before the name change?
“The UK Crime and Policing Bill includes proposals around sex offenders and name change which ministers are considering extending to Scotland.’’
Meanwhile paedos may be trying to gain access to children through their parents' dating apps, researchers have warned.
A report co-led by the University of Edinburgh found men who have sexually offended against children use dating apps daily, leading to calls for stronger regulation of apps used by 381 million people, according to Statista.
Research by the Childlight Global Child Safety Institute, hosted by the University of Edinburgh, found men who sexually abuse children are nearly four times more likely to use dating sites than non-offenders.
The unit found 66% of men who have sexually offended against children use dating platforms - and more than 22% use them daily.
The report, called Swipe Wrong, is part of a broader investigation into the multibillion-dollar industry of child sexual exploitation and abuse, which financially benefits perpetrators, organised crime and, according to researchers, mainstream companies.
It warned that sexual exploitation and abuse of children has become a pandemic, impacting more than 300 million every year.
In fact, that is a conservative estimate since there are a quarter million children on the streets of Brazil every day selling their bodies, and double that when the Olympics or World Cup are in town. I would venture to say that South and Central America could easily make up a million kids a day on their own.
Add-in North America, Europe, Africa, and South Asia and you would easily reach some multiple of a million kids per day.
John Swinney urged to make it criminal offence to not report sex abuse of children
Labour MP Joani Reid has written to the First Minster, calling on him to consider making it mandatory for those working with children to report abuse, warning Scotland “is not immune” to grooming gangs.
John Swinney has been urged to make it a criminal offence to not report the sexual abuse of children.
Labour MP Joani Reid has written to the First Minister, calling on him to consider making it mandatory for those working with children to report abuse, warning Scotland “is not immune” to grooming gangs.
Reid’s letter comes as her party was accused of “watering down” probes into organised sexual exploitation of children in England.
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said the assertions, made by Reform UK chief Nigel Farage and Tory leader Kemi Badenoch, were wrong and the UK Government had increased the number of local inquiries.
But, of course, the last thing the inquiry wants to find is the direct link between the Quran and the rape and gang rape of teenage, and even preteen British girls. But if they dig with diligence and a determination to find the truth, that is exactly what they will find.
Last week, safeguarding minister Jess Phillips announced Westminster’s Crime and Policing Bill will have measures on mandatory reporting, including the creation of a new offence of obstructing someone from making a report about abuse.
She told MPs: “Mandatory reporting will create a culture of openness and honesty rather than cover-ups and secrecy…
“And anyone who seeks deliberately to prevent someone fulfilling their mandatory duty to report child sexual abuse will face the full force of the law.”
The full force of the law is not so impressive anymore considering the rather pathetic conviction rate for child rapists, and the quick release from prison in order to make room for thought crimes.
Reid said Scotland should implement the plan. In a letter to Swinney she said: “The introduction of mandatory reporting for adults working with children – and the creation of a criminal offence for those who fail to report or attempt to cover up abuse – sends a powerful and necessary message: there is no place to hide for those who harm children.”
If only! Of course, you could just change your name and hide in plain sight on social media.
Alexis Jay, who led an inquiry into child sexual abuse, previously told MPs that “people behave in similar ways, both institutionally and individual abusers, in whatever country…” and told Holyrood of her concerns about abuse in Scotland.
Reid said the remarks “highlight what recent and deeply troubling reports of organised child sexual abuse in Greater Glasgow have also made clear”. She added: “Scotland is not immune to this. These crimes are not confined to any one part of the UK. Scotland has the opportunity to act in step with the rest of the UK. I urge the First Minister to do so – and quickly.”
A Scottish Government spokesman said: “In Scotland all healthcare and education professionals already have a duty to report child abuse. However, the case for mandatory reporting is kept under review. The independent Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry is undertaking an extensive review of child protection policy and practice and will report with recommendations.”
