St Athan paedophile had child sex abuse
images on laptops
AN ELDERLY paedophile was caught with thousands of child sex abuse images on his laptops.
South Wales Police received intelligence that indecent images of children were being accessed via the internet from Robert Parsons’ home in St Athan.
Officers attended the address on November 11, 2024, and seized a number of digital devices.
On an HP laptop, officers found 75 Category A – the most serious – indecent images of children, as well as 135 Category B and 2,061 Category C images.
The images were from between June 2, 2021, and April 29, 2024.
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) had been installed on the laptop, as well as a browser which allowed access to the dark web.
He was also found to have one Category A, two Category B, and 36 Category C child sex abuse images on a Dell laptop, as well as web searches for underage girls.
Parsons, of Rectory Drive, was interviewed on November 11, 2024, and initially denied the offences.
He later pleaded guilty to three charges of making indecent images.
The court heard that the 77-year-old, who lives alone and is retired, had no previous convictions.
Parsons’ defence counsel said the defendant had expressed an eagerness to engage with the probation service and demonstrated a realistic prospect of rehabilitation.
A gentle slap on the wrist
Recorder Aidan Eardley KC sentenced Parsons to eight months, suspended for one year, and ordered him to complete 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days.
The defendant must register as a sex offender for 10 years, and was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for the same period.
A deprivation order was also made for the two seized laptops.
